I took up bass fishing last year and have found tubes my go to bait. These additional rigging's will definitely make tubes my favorite. Thanks for great tips!
I have never rigged my tubes like this. I used leaded heads, run it up through the hollow body, and pop the eyelet through about halfway up the tube. It gives the bait an injured fish motion. Drives fish crazy. I have found it best to fish this bait on steep drop offs. I've hit huge walleys, northern, bass, you name it. Unfortunately they don't make tube worms in the right colors anymore. I used to use a solid, matte light gold. Best color IMHO.
I have got to tell you... Beginner here, caught my first bass on 5" senko with your tutoring. Many thanks to all of your videos. I am learning at a record pace, and all your insight and expertise have made it easy (and I look good to my other fishing buddies...hehehe). Keep up the good work and videos!!
That Eagle Claw high-performance hook looks similar in shape to a shiner hook (only shiner hooks don't have that clip). I've also heard of guys stuffing the tube weightless so it floats and you can fish it like a walking-style topwater lure.
The Trokar TK190 is the best Texas rig hook for a tube on the market, I go through tubes a ton less now I started using them and the great thing is Eagle Claw makes the Trokar and they also have the regular version without the Trokar point and they are way cheaper but they are the same exact hook just different points and the great thing is that the hooks aren’t just a one trick pony because they are also awesome hooks for beaver style baits! They have saved me a lot of money on tubes by switching to the TK190 or the regular Eagle Claw!
Good tips Glenn, I like using some Berkley trout bait floating in my tubes. Roll it up in a ball and freeze it, makes it easier to put in the tube.. I love the toothpick idea..
For river fishing I always temper my jighead hooks with a torch just slightly. The hook will straighten out easier, so if you get hung on rocks you pull it straight, bend it back and go again. Haven't had a bass straighten one out before, but there's a risk of that, so I don't use this method for stillwater.
GLEEN; very good .video, its great for smallmouth, and spots, sense there both the same patterns. you have covered from top to bottom. fisherman needs to try this it works. keep up the videos it helps.
Glenn.. Several years ago, Berkley did a study. The profile, which I see as an inverted tube, was the best profile for attracting bass strikes. In order to sell lures, Berkley must appeal to buyers/human customers, as well as fish. An inverted tube profile is a hard sell to a lure buyer. It must have claws etc which the bass take off first etc in order to sell., so Berkley went with human appeal rather than fish appeal in order to market.. Unfortunately I am 88 and likely will ever be on the water again. I do have one rod rigged with a tube inverted with polystyrene in the head , to depict this profile. Hopefully, I will be physically able to test my theory.
jimgam730 That's actually where they work best. That's what I was fishing in the video. Yes, they get hung up every now and then, but not any worse than a football head jig.
I like to use the ear plugs the squishy soft ones. They are absorbent like sponges and as it goes down slowly it releases bubbles causing the little legs to have a little more action too. That has helped
I just started using a tube here in Central NC I had it Texas rigged without pegging the weight and it was awesome. I think leggings g the weight is a great idea though going to try that next time.
Thanks for this video. I've bought tubes before, but never used them, because I wasn't sure on how to rig them. Made me feel stupid after watching this video, it's so simple. Maybe I was having brain farts those few times.
LOL I said the same thing to myself, stop sticking a hunk of lead into your mouth, take some fish scent and squirt a small amount into the hollow plastic and the lead head will just slip right in.
I used a 2.75 inch tube, just for shits, they wouldn’t stop hitting it. It’s something fish don’t see that often. Was a small for ultralight - was great.
If you wanted to keep the tube from sliding down with the last set up you showed, could you add a dab of super glue to keep the tube in place? Great videos for this beginner fisher!! Thanks!
I realize this video is 4 years old but I was wondering if there is anyone who still sell the weed guard hook. I was able to find all the other hooks but that one you showed in 2:44
What is that hook used for the dropshot rig? That would work great on the Wolf instead of a Wolf River rig, which tangles easily if you try to cast very far.
I like how you explain your message. However what I find most important is you do a close up view of what you are actually doing. I have see so many videos I just give up on because they are so busy yakking I cannot see what they are actually doing. ( No Close Up Viewing ) Once I see your setup, bingo I got it. That’s how you get my up votes. Thank You 😊.
Nice video. I use a lot of creature baits and worms, but have not had any success with tubes. This should help. You mentioned a Quirky in the video. What is that? Where can they be purchased?
Hello Glenn, really enjoyed your videos great information on techniques and rigging baits. Question; what can you share about shakyheads and fishing equipment, line choice ect. Also where you from? or better what lakes are you filming from. I'm from southern California area and fish mostly all locals out here. Great viewing your tips and techniques keep up the great vids. Sam Chino, Ca.
What about fishing this on an ultra light rod for 2-6 lb line very limber. And if so what size tube should I use and and max weight on my rod I’m specifically using is for I think max weight is 1/16 or 1/8 and line rating stated before 2-6lb line.
BassResource - Bass Fishing Techniques I’ve got the Shakespeare micro light ultra light 7’6” 2-6lb line 1/32-1/8oz rod with a 2000 size reel with 6lb mono line and is like a panfishing style rod due to the whippyness if you will call it and so I’d think it be hard to set the hook that’s why I’m asking.
Thanks for this Glenn. I can't seem to find the angled eye hook that is weedless anywhere. Any suggestions? I looked at Tackle Warehouse and didn't see them. Thanks.
+Joe Palmer I normally use 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8. Most of the time using 1/4 oz. I love using power team lures "food chain tube" in susky slayer and green pumpkin of course!
Does line color matter? The reel I want to use is spooled with yellow braid with a 2 foot fluorocarbon leader.. Helps me detect subtle takes of worms. My other baitcaster is a dedicated frog rod with green 65# braid that I blast into the worst slop Florida has to offer. I imagine that would be a better choice.
BassResource Yeah I've been looking around on both their websites and it looks like they have discontinued the ones with a wire guard that latches under the hook. Sorry if I'm being dense and missing something really obvious but I've been looking for those jigs ever since I saw your video a month ago
With a bullet weight, yes. It's not ideal, however. You need something to help prevent it from sliding down the hook and balling up during the hookset, which is a common problem with ewg hooks on tubes.
Never used tubes before, thanks for the info Glenn!
Jordan Allen You're welcome! And thanks for watching!
Where to buy those seedless hooks
Five years later this video is still awesome. Thanks for posting and most importantly thanks for closeup showing the rigging techniques.
You're welcome B Z! Thanks for watching.

your videos are very informing, and your a great host. Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. Thanks for watching!
GLENN IS GREAT, THE TOP TEACHER ON FISHING VIDEOS
We love to hear when we do a good job. Keep ‘em coming!

Very helpful on how to rig a tube.
Glenn I always learn so much from your videos!!!
Learned a lot in a short period of time....thank you! Excellent video.
yah
I'm new to that kind of fishing. Can't wait to try it!! Thanks for the video.

Great video. I can't find tube jigs with the wire (for weedless fishing). Any suggestions?
Thanks. Old dog here, learnt something new. BTW, you put me in mind of one of my brothers.
Again your a great teacher... thank you helped me soooo much...

great vid but whats up with the tungsten weights whats better about them

That's great information! Thanks for sharing.
Hello John. I'm having difficulty imagining what you mean by "inverted tube". Can you describe it more? Or maybe add a picture? Thanks.
I grew up watching them use Tubes on Bass Masters, but the different ways you rig them even better.
Brian Gipson, glad I could help. Let me know which tips helped the most. Looking forward to hearing much more from you.
How well do those rigs work on rocky bottoms? Thats what I have to deal with where I fish.
jimgam730 That's actually where they work best. That's what I was fishing in the video. Yes, they get hung up every now and then, but not any worse than a football head jig.
Ever try a plastic casing by the jighead with bbs in it?
Thank you for this tutorial BassResource

Love your videos. Caught 2Ib bass with these types of tubes. Even a monster pike with one eye haha.
Awesome. Thanks for the feedback Peter Vang!
good information I've been wanting to try some tube fishing
Glad to help, Fishing_With_BIG-D. Let me know how it works out as I would love to see the results.
I found the Texas rig on an off set hook and not bury the eye of the hook in the tube and don't peg the weight, works for me.
So if I wanted to change tube colors or tube, how do I put one on when it’s already tied on to the line?
Thanks for this video. I've bought tubes before, but never used them, because I wasn't sure on how to rig them. Made me feel stupid after watching this video, it's so simple. Maybe I was having brain farts those few times.

Cant find that weighted hook with the weed guard. What brand is it? Great video!!
Thanks for the knowledge sir! Subscribed!
+GeorgiaBackwoods Fishin Thank you!
Great video 🎣🎣 Would love to find a weedless hook
What's the best line to use and rod and reel well let's just say the whole set up from pole to the rig

Great Info.. Can you tell me where to get those particular weedless hooks with the keeper?
Information and links are in the description and comments under the video.
There is no link under this UA-cam video to the hooks. Is there a link on bass resource? Can you hook that up?
Great information!
My favorite way to catch bass!!
Yes, absolutely Andrew Buss! Thanks for watching!

Yes, that could work. The trade-off is that superglue hardens the plastic, which shortens the lifespan of it.
I realize this video is 4 years old but I was wondering if there is anyone who still sell the weed guard hook. I was able to find all the other hooks but that one you showed in 2:44
Not that I know of.
What is that hook used for the dropshot rig? That would work great on the Wolf instead of a Wolf River rig, which tangles easily if you try to cast very far.
It's VMC SpinShot Drop Shot Hooks: amzn.to/2I4PHdl

ITS CANDY!!!
Nice video. I use a lot of creature baits and worms, but have not had any success with tubes. This should help. You mentioned a Quirky in the video. What is that? Where can they be purchased?
mhrobotguy It's called a "corkie", and it's used for salmon fishing. You can get them at a local tackle store or an online tackle shop.
Who makes the tube jig with a weed guard
excellent. thanks buddy.
No problem 👍
Hello Glenn, really enjoyed your videos great information on techniques and rigging baits. Question; what can you share about shakyheads and fishing equipment, line choice ect. samuel flores Thanks Sam. I'll be doing a shaky head video soon. We shoot in Eastern Washington. Thanks for watching!
Can you send me a link to where you get the weedless tube hooks? I can find them with a 90 degree eye but not the 60 degree you are using. Thanks!
The name of the weedless jighead in the video is the Bite Me jig, and you can find it in most BPS stores (not online).
If I could only have one plastic for Smb and large it would be a Pumpkin green tube

What size jighead and hook would be reccomended for a 4 inch tube bait for ice fishing???
2/0 or 3/0 hooks
Thanks for this Glenn. I can't seem to find the angled eye hook that is weedless anywhere. Any suggestions? I looked at Tackle Warehouse and didn't see them. Thanks.
Paul Lancaster It's the Bite Me jig, and you can find it in BPS stores (not online).
BassResource Thanks! I did indeed find it yesterday!
great tips!
What's the best brand of tubes
I live in WA there's a spot I can see tons of bass but can't get not one not sure why
Jesse Reyes try live bait? the area me be fished to much
9yrs ago. Damn. I'm just now trying to learn
Can I get the name/brand of that weedless hook with that guard? Thanks! And awesome tips!
K Thao Those are the Bite Me tube heads. I usually can't find them online, but can get them at Bass Pro Shops when you go to the store.
Ahh. Okay. Thank you so much!
Will this work in the fall or is it just for the summer?
It works year 'round.
What is the brand of weedless tube jig shown?
+Stephen Smith The name of the weedless jighead in the video is the Bite Me jig, and you can find it in most BPS stores (not online).
What size hook and what size tubes are recommended
+Bryan Sanchez 3 1/2" tubes and 2/0 hooks
Ok thank you very much
Candy!
Northeast indiana green pumpkin tube with the angles weighted hook never fails
What's the best weight to use for the jig?
+Joe Palmer I normally use 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8. Most of the time using 1/4 oz. I love using power team lures "food chain tube" in susky slayer and green pumpkin of course!
Can I add your videos on my channel here in Brazil?
You can add them to a playlist on your channel, but you may not copy and post them on your channel.
Do you tie braid directly to the hook? Or put some flourocarbon on it?
I only use braid when I'm pitching the tubes into heavy cover, and I tie directly.
I prefer clear fluoro, and green or black braid. I think yellow is too bright and unnatural.
Where can you buy those weedless tube jigs?
Andrew Holmgren You can get them at Bass Pro Shops and Tackle Warehouse.
BassResource Yeah I've been looking around on both their websites and it looks like they have discontinued the ones with a wire guard that latches under the hook. Sorry if I'm being dense and missing something really obvious but I've been looking for those jigs ever since I saw your video a month ago
What are the hooks with the weed guarde called
Information about them is in the description area underneath the video.
What brand as the weed guard weight hook
The description under the video explains who, what, where in great detail.
I've also hard of guys taking a small piece of elka selsor (medicine) and putting it in the tube for bubbles
TomTCincyO Yes, that's another great trick!
what brand are the weedless hooks? thanks
+Travis Wyman It's the Bite Me jig, and you can find it in BPS stores (not online).
+BassResource thanks bud!
is it possible to use ewg hooks?
With a bullet weight, yes. It's not ideal, however. You need something to help prevent it from sliding down the hook and balling up during the hookset, which is a common problem with ewg hooks on tubes.
That's good news, that's about all I use. I really need to expand my tackle
Slide a piece of plastic worm in the tube and run the jig hook trlhrough the piece of worm to keel the tube in place
That’s a good tip as well, david leasure. Thanks for sharing.
It looks like there's a bass in the clouds above his left shoulder it wants to eat the tube LIKE CANDY
what size line
+Aidan Satterfield I use 6lb most of the time.
Love the Video. Your the man, but should you really be licking that lead.
IV been biting split shot for years no lead poisoning
it is caaaaaaandy lol
Why didn't he fish with it
Thanks dude I have never got a response I'm 9
