For Gomez, I don't think the Academy cares too much about pop stars except on Original Song, although interestingly, Billie Eilish's doc is shortlisted last year. The last doc from a popular musician I remember winning was the Amy Winehouse one. As per Swift, you are right, the short film first premiered on UA-cam. The reason why it is in the Oscar conversation and getting nominations from award-giving bodies is because it had its theatrical release on TIFF and Tribeca Film Festival just months ago, which is one of the things a short film, doc, and animated short needs to do in order to be eligible for an Oscar nom.

I actually left out Doctor Strange (and to a lesser extent, Black Panther) from my nom predictions mostly because I felt so sure that the visual effects branch would be turned off by the films that a good portion of them were overworked on, and would actually give EEAAO and RRR an edge as a result. EEAAO will definitely get nominated for Editing- which is deserved- but I’m actually not surprised it’s not getting a lot of below the line stuff. Editing is the only one it really needs
I feel like the RRR hype for any Oscar recognition has been pretty overblown. Keep in mind, it took us till 2019 for any truly foreign-language film to win best picture. I've noticed a trend in the US recently to recognize Indian cinema more often, which is great, but any time a film produced in India is celebrated for anything, it's typically a "bro that movie was CRAZY". I get that a lot of films released out of India tend to have a bit more of a bombastic style, especially with Bollywood musicals, but there feels like a backhanded energy of like, disdain for these films. Like, nobody seems to take them seriously. I'm not bluntly calling racism, nor am I denying a film like RRR, a pretty bombastic and high-energy film any praise for being high-energy, BUT I just can't help but feel like we might have to wait a while for something along the lines of RRR to recieve a best picture nom. Which is sad, but I just don't feel like it was in the cards this year.

Not sure why anyone is surprised by the RRR "snub" in visual effects. The VFX work in that is plainly not up to Hollywood blockbuster standards in terms of CGI quality, etc.
Indies just don’t usually make VFX. Ex Machina is the exception. Also with the Marvel thing: whenever Doctor Strange is an a movie it’s the movie that gets a VFX nomination. They love those effects, it’s why Spider-Man: No Way Home made it into VFX. Black Panther is probably gonna get overshadowed by Avatar due to all the water stuff.
Idk, my theory is that the Oscars saw how popular No Way Home was with fans, but didn't like it that much and only threw a VFX nomination at it for catering.

Isn’t each category mutually exclusive because each category allows only for specific voters, directors vote for directors, sound designers vote for sound ,composers vote for composers, so just because rrr didn’t get nominated in these categories how does it affect chances of others since they are independent of each other?
@@sammytalluri1019 the directors branch would probably still put it under the bus BECAUSE it isn't going to be a big player in the ceremony. Literally almost no movies with very little exceptions can just get a director nomination, and RRR isn't strong enough to warrant just that nomination. They are separate entities/voters but there is still very strong correlations between getting nominated/shortlisted with actual nominations

The last fight's VFX was horrendous and also the fight with people in the background used to nominate king was. im kinda bummed mars one didnt make it, but brazil's selection process was kinda bad and this year was so much better than the last, and im hopeful it will only get better from now on and that we will get a nom in the next few years :)

If only one international film has chance to get inti top 10 best picture nomination then that slot already taken by All quite on western front film as front runner by grabbing more short list positions.

Isn’t each category mutually exclusive because each category allows only for specific voters, directors vote for directors, sound designers vote for sound ,composers vote for composers, so just because rrr didn’t get nominated in these categories how does it affect chances of others since they are independent of each other?
@@sammytalluri1019 the directors branch would probably still put it under the bus BECAUSE it isn't going to be a big player in the ceremony. Literally almost no movies with very little exceptions can just get a director nomination, and RRR isn't strong enough to warrant just that nomination. They are separate entities/voters but there is still very strong correlations between getting nominated/shortlisted with actual nominations

RRR’s chances of Best Picture is very bleak. All Quiet on the Western Front will probably fill that spot. It’s a better film to be honest
The VISUAL EFFECTS category was the most fucked up. These people will give it to the Marvel flicks literally everything.

Before the shortlist, I had Avatar 2/The Batman/Dr. Strange 2/Nope/TGM getting in for VFX & now I feel confident in those 5 getting in. I have a feeling Amsterdam COULD make it in for Makeup at the Oscars. And I don't know what I should add to my 5th spot for Sound.
Dr strange is 100% not getting in. If it's going to be a Marvel movie, it's going to be Black Panther
@@gabrielepotuto2939 The first Black Panther film missed VFX category, which makes me feel not confident its sequel will be getting in. And with exception to Thor 4, every MCU film that had Dr. Strange in it got nominated for its VFX work.
@@MrJoker3571 I'd argue neither of them will be nominated but if one has a chance it's black panther and there's a good reason why the first one wasn't nominated... The last fight's VFX was horrendous and also the fight with people in the background used to nominate king was. The same can't be said about this film with the water stuff and generally less but better VFXs
@@gabrielepotuto2939 And what’s going to demolish the second film’s chances is Avatar 2’s superior VFX work in the water. And Dr. Strange 2 has some weird, trippy VFX work that may sway voters into getting it in for the category.
@@MrJoker3571 i disagree the trippy VFX in doctor strange is gonna help, especially since there's major shitty looking shots in it, but it's not like I can swerve you, i think. That being said All Quiet on the Western Front is probably getting in instead of either marvel film
If India really made RRR the International feature, It could have had more than 6 nominations and possibly a Best Picture Lock.. No impact.. I would say Decision to Leave would win for Intl Feature..
If Leonor will never die was the Intl Feature of the Philippines, It could have been shortlisted atleast.. They went with the one that also has an Intl Emmy Nomination which is dumb..
