I am a Registered Nurse (28 yr.) and have worked in the GI Lab for well over 15 years. Very frustrating for me to stand by and listen to an MD give wrong advice and medications to patients. I have come close to leaving the medical profession as I believe big pharma has taken over medical schools and research. I can not blame most MD's for the treatment they prescribe as we all have to study the curriculum we are given to pass and obtain our degree, even if that curriculum is based on fake science. I believe Statin and Proton Pump Inhibiting drugs are such a huge scam among many others. God Bless you and keep up the good work

I have genetically high cholesterol (I am not overweight nor diabetic) but fortunately for me, my doctor recommended that I lower by carbs. Within 3 months I was in the normal ranges for everything but slightly high LDL but it had dropped 20+ points. I got a little lazy recently during the holidays and added a lot of carbs back in, just got my blood work and everything is high again. I am living proof that lowering carbs is the way to lower cholesterol.

I am glad you got a good doctor. When I had high cholesterol/bad triglyceride/bad cholesterol/low good cholesterol and borderline prediabetes; my doctor gave me statins and told me to cut the carbs/junk food/etc and go exercise my butt off. It really depends on the doctor and who they work for which will determine if a doctor cares or not. My doctor only gave me statins because I went to the Emergency Room a few times since I had heavy chest pain and high bp/ high systolic/dialostic. I am also overweight per my height standard. My doctor sent me to a nutritionist/dietician too. Not many decent doctors out there anymore.

Just got told by my PCP that my triglycerides were 1546mg/dl and last year they were 556mg/dl. My sons been in the hospital for few months and my blood pressure and stress have been through the roof. Been living through drive throughs and addicted to energy drinks. Was offered a med and to be referred to a VA dietician to help me learn recipes without any fat… moved to eggs, steak, bacon, chicken, butter, water, occasionally butter cooked green beans or a salad without sugary dressing, and one cup of black coffee in the morning, after a week I feel amazing. When my Kaiser cardiologist asked me why I won’t take statins I told him that my LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels were already very low. He checked my lab report and agreed. Then I said “besides, I thought MI’s were caused by inflammation, not high cholesterol”. He looked startled for a second, and then said “yes, that is true, but there have been studies that may indicate that statins have anti-inflammatory properties as well”. I thought to myself, nice try doc, but I think I’ll take it from here and go with natural anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric, blueberries, etc. Conclusion: Do your own homework and verify everything that MD’s tell you. Big Pharma seems to have indeed compromised the medical profession.

+Mark - good move. Turmeric could help with high LDL and TG levels but, Cumin and Black Seed have a much better effect controlling it. Cumin and Black Seed has the backing of both, herbalists and mainstream medical research. Also, LDL and TG levels naturally decrease when adhering to a low carb lifestyle.

Mark, I went through basically the same thing ALSO with a Kaiser doc. I had a MI 9 years ago at 36. I was determined to fix my body, especially because the meds were making me feel all screwed up: muscle craps even though I was hydrated, mental fogginess and a low libido. I told the doc what my intentions were. He laughed and told me that I would be on the meds for the rest of my life *RED FLAG. Everything I ever read before this happened told me that these issues could be fixed by diet and exercise. I researched and my research led to a book, "The 30 Day Heart Tune-up," which gave advice I followed to a 'T'. I saw changes in my body.
I tracked my BP and pulse rate for three months and gathered figurative bullets for my gun - articles, the book, anecdotal evidence, et. al., which I took with me to my next appointment. The cardiologist scoffed at what I had. ANOTHER RED FLAG RIGHT THERE. He basically berated the author of the book and told me that he didn't know what he was talking about DESPITE the fact that the author, also a cardiologist, is...AHEM...GET THIS... a F E L L O W with the American Heart Association.
Showed Mr. Cardiologist the excel spreadsheet of my BPs. He said, "Well, ok, you can stop that, but you have to continue the statin." N O P E . Like you, Mark, I continued my holistic outlook and haven't looked back.

Some doctors get very defensive when you do that and will actually "discharge" you from the practice and send you the dreaded "Termination of the Doctor/Patient Relationship". Happened to me one time with a Gastroenterologist I was seeing off and on about about elevated Alkaline Phosphatase levels for 3 years and after numerous tests, no definite answer as to what was causing the elevation. At first, he told me that it was due to my gallbladder problems and would go away after I had my gallbladder removed which it didn't. Funny thing is that my PCP which was part of the same Hospital Medical Group, decided to refer me to another Physician Group in another city and apparently, he didn't like that and sent me the letter.

Dr. Berry, I just subscribed! Thank you for sharing your helpful knowledge. I am a 61-year-old, 5’ 6” short, retired Air Force veteran (24 yrs). Last Oct (2018), I weighed 168 lbs at my heaviest, with a waist of 34-not happy with that, but thought it was just my new normal that I had gradually morphed into since retirement in ‘08. I had high bad cholesterol, low good cholesterol, high triglycerides, extremely low B-12, etc. In Oct I learned that my daughter was getting married in 1 year=motivation! I determined to lose weight (with a goal of no more than 150lbs-good luck on that!) and improve my lab numbers. Since Oct, I have been on a healthy diet (lots of salads, salmon, skinless chicken, homemade tuna salads, lean red meats in lower quantities, etc.) and only the past 6 weeks started the Couch to 5K program with my wife. I did cut out all those things you mentioned, and my lab numbers improved significantly. Next labs are in mid-Nov, and I’m sure they’re gonna rock! Yesterday I weighed 145.7lbs (a recent low was 144.4lbs) with visceral fat of 1, and body fat of 15.5. I recently purchased a new three-piece Ralph Lauren suit for the wedding. Only the coat sleeve length, trouser leg length, and waist needed to be adjusted. The waist on this suit was 31-no way to get into that-yet. But it was drastically marked down, so I had to buy this one. So I requested the tailor to let the waist out to 32. The trousers are now perfect! Next, a new white shirt. I tried on several, but the regular was too bulky, the trim fit still had too much in the chest/belly, so I ended up with the slim fit! Never in my wildest dreams!! Everything you said was spot on, and I am loving this journey with my wife! No turning back, not just on the diet, but the whole lifestyle change!! Thank you again for being against-the-grain honest!!

I’ve been keto for 5 months and feel great (I’m 60). I’m in the U.K. and we are around 3 - 4 years behind you guys. I lost my best friend to breast cancer two years ago. She was a consultant anaesthetist, and super smart but was eating lots of carbs “for energy,” in order to do her hectic job. It breaks my heart to wonder if the carbohydrates she ate exacerbated her breast cancer. Please keep up the good work. Thanks Nick.

@@user-hn9qg5qm3o The evidence that it's fructose that raises triglycerides is weighty. It is virtually established fact. However, total and HDL cholesterol will rise on a diet heavy in saturated fats. That's not as bad a thing as some people, even doctors, think. The HDL:Triglycerides ratio is one good marker for cardiovascular disease. On a saturated fat heavy diet, HDL rises but triglycerides fall - this is cardio-protective and a good thing.
It's not the cholesterol in food per se that raises your serum cholesterol - well, not much anyway, because: 1. Your body only absorbs about 25% of cholesterol in food because it's actually metabolically expensive for the body to take up cholesterol since it has to convert it through esterification in order to transport it; & 2. Your body produces a lot more cholesterol than you could get from food! If your body absorbs a significant amount through food, it will reduce its own production correspondingly.
So, what increases serum cholesterol? Evidence, already significant, is increasing that it's primarily due to inflammation. Taking foods alone, the foods that are known to be highly inflammatory are primarily sugar and linoleic-rich (omega-6) seed oils - corn, soy, cottonseed, safflower, sunflower, etc. The oils that are good for lowering inflammation are omega-3 and saturated fats.
You need cholesterol and saturated fats to form cell membranes, though omega-3 oils are also involved, particularly in neurons.

Well if you do keto, the body burns the fat because it does not have glucose to burn. If you do not cut your carbs to 50 and below and you just add butter & animal fat like bacon, then you will increase your triglycerides if you are like me. I changed from light butter ( cut with canola oil) & cooking with just olive oil to using butter for all purposes and did not cut carbs much. My triglycerides went from 120 to 150. So be aware. Keto is the way to go or don't add the extra saturated animal fat.

When I was originally diagnosed as diabetic ten years ago my triglycerides were always measured as "abnormally high" which I think is higher than 500. It wasn't until a few years ago that I moved towards a higher protein/fat diet and dropped grains and bread (my diabetic diet said that I could have around 200 carb grams in a day) that my triglycerides dropped from 500+ to 120 in six months. I couldn't explain it but it has remained around 100 - 120. This video kind of explains how I inadvertently corrected my triglyceride problem. I'm not on Keto but more like halfway to it and still get positive results.

Their explanation 'well, that's just hereditary'. What a bunch of quacker doctors, smh. So, back in December 2022, I discovered Dr. Berry's YT channel while recovering from spine fusion surgery and, 100+ days into Carnivore and those conditions were quickly reversed and even dropped down 20+lbs, although I wasn't really obese, all without exercise as I am still recovering from spinal fusion surgery. My sleeping pattern has improved greatly and many of the other joint pains I had (supposedly from years of military service) have subsided now to almost zero. I went over my cholesterol results with my primary dr yesterday. My total cholesterol is up from September, and my LDL is up, but so is my HDL.....annnnnnnd my triglycerides are DOWN and well within normal range. My dr is very supportive of whole foods diets, including keto, so she's very happy with my change to keto a year ago. I told her I learn alot from you and she was very interested to learn about you. Every time I comment on one of your videos, I have to thank you! You are helping me get healthier! You have encouraged me to keep looking for doctors who will listen, and now I have a whole team of doctors helping me figure out everything that's going on. (I'm 6'1" 238lbs.) A few weeks later I started keto. One week after starting keto I had another blood test and my triglycerides were 329 (not good but better) and lost 10 lbs. After 4 weeks I'm down 16 lbs (now weighing 222 lbs). Oh and I haven't worked out even once since starting keto due to an injury. I have another blood work scheduled in Dec (at my insistence) and have no doubt my numbers will be normal. I've also seen other nice side effects like better skin.

In 2005, I had reached my highest weight of 256 lbs. and my triglycerides were up to 254. Even though my total cholesterol was 210, I had a good ratio, but my doctor was still concerned because the triglyceride number put ,me at higher risk of stroke or heart attack. So, I went on the South Beach Diet, which is a low-carb type of diet that still allows some complex carbs on the second phase of the diet. However, it prohibits sugars, fruit juices, simple carbs (white rice, pasta, white flour, etc.) Over the course of the next year I lost 75 lbs. Most importantly, within 6 months, I had dropped my triglyceride number to 54. I am a firm believer in limiting sugars and simple carbs to get those numbers down. By the way, my doctor was very impressed with my progress; he was ready to put me on drugs to get the number down. I'm 64, and other than a low-dose aspirin a day, I take no other medications. That's not something many people my age can say. I know what you said in this video is true because I am living proof of the result of getting rid of sugars and starches in your diet. Great work!

My cardiologist told me to get a new cardiologist because of about a year of seeing her, I told her I do NOT trust big pharma. She does trust big pharma so I no longer see her. If I were to eat an extra 1000 calories of simple carbs for 3 weeks, I would gain about 15 pounds. I know this for a fact. I have to eat a strict carnivore diet mostly OMD unless it is a weekend. I also have to be careful on how much I eat. Unfortunately, I can NOT eat as much as I would like. I gain weight very easily, even when very active and strict carnivore. I still can't figure out why. When I did take meds directly after my heart ❤️💙💜💖 attack, my TOTAL cholesterol lowered, but my HDL went below 45 and my triglycerides shot up because I thought grains and low fat was the way to go. Dr. Berry inflammation is caused by sugar instead of salt that much I've learned from your videos. I started on the keto diet about 3 weeks ago. I went to see my doctor and my blood pressure had dropped so low he took me off one of my blood pressure pills. I had only dropped about 12 lb, so I know that advice you're giving is good. I have arthritis and it's very painful in my knees, back, hands & feet. I am 66 & the arthritis is very painful. He prescribed me Mobic & it really has helped me. Do you think the keto diet will help me and improve my pain levels? I do know that losing weight will help with the stress on my joints, I just want to know if my pain levels will improve. Do you have any patients that had this experience? I am completely off sugar, starches pasta, and high glycemic vegetables. I am trying everything within my power to lose weight and to get healthy.

I understand the benefits of some fruits, veggies, and even fasting, but what EXACTLY does fat do? The keto diet is very interesting but very confusing to me. @@michaelm.6955 pretty good, I am visiting family in USA, and had 1/2 a glass at a big dinner, will have a glass at Thanksgiving and Christmas, but I keep my mindset as being a teetotaler.. my sister died of alcohol, and I have quite a few genetic issues, but believe in epigenetics, but it's quite a bit of discipline, I'm 60 and to get to 80 or 90 will be hard work, but on the other hand I like what I eat...as opposed to eating junk!! 😁

In my case, I'm not overweight, I have a healthy diet, no alcohol, drinking mainly water but my Triglycerides went to 567 after having heavy corona symptoms for months and also going through a highly stressful phase in my life. After I started working on stress reduction, meditating and exercising more they fell down to 260 within 3 months. Also have been adding more Omega 3 to my diet more. I could feel when I had super high triglycerides, my heart was racing more often. Although, I'm still working on lowering them I feel already much better so hopefully next test will be even better.

This guy is a real doctor looking for the cause of disease and the common sense cures.
In my clinic we tested the blood of hundreds of patients over the years when putting them on a 21 day detox diet, which besides the use of some herbs to stimulate the liver was basically getting them off refined carbohydrates for three weeks. In every case that had unhealthy blood levels, and that complied with the diet, the triglycerides came down significantly as did cholesterol. Also the HDL/LDL levels improved. I have never met a type 2 diabetes case that did not go into remission if they would comply with a strict low carbohydrate diet while adding in healthy fats And proteins. Unfortunately, many patients will not go back to eating healthy fats because they’re too afraid because their medical doctor tells them not to.

I've been off and on keto for a 2 years now. Stopped for awhile basically because I was frustrated with not losing more weight. Fast forwards to last week. My blood sugar levels spiked to 500. I called my Dr and informed him that I do not think my metformin is working anymore and I immediately started eating no carbs. Last night I had to go to the ER for severe back pain and they did CT Scans, X-Rays and LOTS of blood work to which they were unable to identify the problem. They informed me my blood is too fatty and eventually when they got my bloodwork back, it showed my cholesterol was super high. (600+) and now my dr has me convinced I am going to die. Put me on the highest dose of a statin drug to start immediately. My dad who follows you like the bible told me TO NOT take the statin and keep on my keto path along with whatever diabetic medications they are going to prescribe me. I have been watching a lot of your videos and now I am probably going to just not take the statins, wait for my follow up when things are likely better AND then inform my Dr I didnt even take the meds when he wants to credit them.

You are now my doctor (for some things). My GP hammered at me to go on statins last week as triglycerides bit high and to cut out fat etc. I 'm glad to hear from you triglycerides same treatment as cholesterol so can confidently not take pills or cut out fat, but get back to working on reducing sugar and carbs. Thank you very much.

Long story short, I used to be vegan, now I slowly eating some animal products with saturated fat after watching your videos... I just got my lab results and it shows a total cholesterol value of 354... The healthcare professional suggested I should start statins medication to lower cholesterol, she thinks its hereditary... Now, the thing with me is... I fast a lot, I mean a lot... My meal frequency is out of this world according to today's modern man's standards... I eat a huge meal, then go 46 hours of water fasting only with the exception of apple cider vinegar diluted in water... Again, feast for 2, famine for 46, feast for 2, famine for 46, I have been doing this consistently since March of this year 2023, and prior to that, I was on OMAD, one meal a day, I practice this strategy for about 4 years, I guess I moved the goal post... This health care professional said that because of my elevated cholesterol, I am a very high risk of having a adverse cardiac event, I am 42 years old and I watch my diet very closely...

According to Barbara O'Neill, 40 years ago total cholesterol value of 300-350 was considered normal. Then STATINS were introduced and the recommended cholesterol level was lowered to less than 200 mg/dL , for most healthy adults 20 and older... The standards were changed.
