It would explain why the blasts didn't explode upon the impact of the bat. It would also make sense given that luffy is seemingly able to spawn things using the power of imagination. So maybe he summoned his armament haki in the form of paint?
I love Gear 5 because when power scaling becomes too extreme, the main character's power often becomes too destructive. But Gear 5 is a new element that we've never seen before, throwing a wrench into the mix. It makes Luffy strong, unpredictable, and fun, without being oppressive to the point where he can just nuke the world.
Also I 100% agree with you that Warcury turned his tusks into swords and am actually surprised there's people who believe, without any actual evidence or reason, that those swords are independent of his other tusks... Like what?

I don't believe in her traveling around the world with Kuma after Egghead for lots of reason. I’m so invested in Kizaru’s choices, I am going to be naive and hope for him to start making different choices from now on. He’s done what he’s done, but for all intents and purposes losing everyone we’ve ever known him to have ever personally cared about (Sentomaru, Bonney, Kuma, Vegapunk), I think he’s done. I really want him to come around later. I wanted him to before, but the longer he holds out, the bigger the impact once he switches sides. Or he ends up just quitting after this and becoming a rogue player. He’s already actively choosing not to fight anymore. Sure, maybe he couldn’t be of much help to the elders in this state, but he’s not trying. I think he’ll at least continue not contributing anymore and I’m waiting for the moment he may have to make a choice again and perhaps will choose differently. Such good characterization and writing that I wasn’t expecting for this character, to be honest.
Great analysis. Concerning zoro's way of dealing with Lucci is meant to show that despite Zoro seeming like a flawless fighter, he actually has some kind of a struggle with his bushido and his newly aquired weapon. Lucci being a swordless but resilient figther, and Zoro holding his conqueror's fluid seem like a coherent explanaition to why it happened that way.

he doesn't know the elders are there specifically, but lucci asking zoro if he wants to go find the source for the overwhelming haki means he definitely knows some insanely powerful people are there
Thanks Merphy....idk if its because of his cooking prep but Sanji is great at strategizing when he's not with ladies or with Zoro. I'll never forget the Mr. Prince covert operation lol. Or the Big Mom cake plan.
Sanji as a strategist and bon clay is a spy and master of disguise. Together they are the most clever straw hats. Yes I refer to bon clay as a straw hat because Sanji and bon clay are my favorite characters
I don't mind Zoro vs Lucci, as long as we understand it. "You don't hunt a rabbit with a cannon". This was his version, and he might have understimated Lucci as did we all. He's not going all in, but he's definitely taking it seriously, because it was important for Zoro to win with a handicap. As for the Gorosei, hadn't Warcury questioned Im at some point? They are still merciless but they should be against pointless waste, so I expected Mars to kinda care about Kaku. But I guess we're just way beyond that this time.
@@8Smoker8I don't care what you believe, I just really despise your implied attitude in that first sentence. Basically, "I don't mind that you didn't like the fight as long as you interpret it the way I want you to."
@@KingdomKing13 no, as long as you interpret it the CORRECT way. We have two very clear facts, as I've already said: 1. Zoro was holding back 2. Zoro underestimated Lucci (2a. so did most of the fandom). So I don't care what you despise.
@@8Smoker8 People like you are the reason why Zoro haters exist. "The correct way," what crap. Okay, fine, I guess Luffy was holding back immensely against Lucci back on Enis Lobby since he didn't immediately use Jet Gatling off the rip. People have always saved big attacks for the finale of a fight. Been that way in One Piece, been that way in most manga/anime I've seen. Just because Zoro doesn't constantly spam Asura doesn't mean he's holding back. Also, let's assume what you said IS true. That makes Zoro look so petty and butthurt. You're essentially saying that Zoro could have finished Lucci at any time and chose not to, despite his friends being in danger all over the island, because Mihawk humiliated him once and he wanted to do the same thing to Lucci, and that took priority over helping his friends. Ok, fine, you got what you wanted, Zoro looks better from a STRENGTH standpoint, but from a CHARACTER standpoint he just became one of the most terrible people in the series.
I have a strong suspicion that something may be afoot with how Zoro fought Lucci, and that it may be tied into the whole grim reaper thing. Sort of a "deal with death" situation. His hesitation to leave upon realizing Lucci was still standing was very strange.
7:08 those translations are bad. TCBscans does it better. Here’s from TCBscans, “That might not be possible.. It’s hard to single out a lone insect, when you’re exterminating the hive!”
3:52 I completely agree, Oda does have a bit trouble with that- remember in Wano Denjiro was gone for over 100 chapters 😳 I trust Oda but it makes me worry about the “Final Battle” as it will be HUGE and have sooo many moving pieces and factions
Zoro was using three sword style the entire fight. His sword got knocked out of his hand in the beginning of chapter 1110 and then he caught it after he overheard Sanji badmouthing him. He was fighting seriously the entire time
you made a very good point about kizaru appearing on a panel before the iron giant! However, now that you mentioned it, I don't think this is about betrayal necessarily? The main thing I notice is that Kizaru says "let me rest", while the giant has been resting up until now (in a not dissimilar slumped position). Maybe the iron giant wasn't out of power, but just crestfallen?
I kind of interpret the conquerors haki attack as making one "lose themself." When other characters pass out, it's like their souls or spirit have temporarily left their bodies. When Luffy got hit in Gear 5, he lost ALL the things that MAKE Luffy Luffy. Especially with Luffy's many forms, he can basically look however he wants, but as long as the artists add sandals, a straw hat, scars, etc, the audience knows that's Luffy. So in a sense, Luffy almost LOST HIMSELF, but just managed to hold on.
The Laser dome is not a physical defense. Kaku showed early in the arc it's easy to pass through but you explode if you try. The elders can pass through because of their regenerative abilities, not strength. It's also why Luffy said he went through the barrier twice. He got kicked out, then had to pass through it again to get back to Kizaru.
I agree with a lot of the zoro stuff and he was def being sidelined. But I do think it’s significant that because he didn’t finish Lucci, he was able to report to Mars
In Zoro's defense, he doesn't know any of the Five Elders are on the island (Saturn arrived after their fight started) and their plan was already set in motion and pretty solid (before Saturn arrived the Vegapunks where going to get the pacifistas back under control and with or without the robot, he knew his crew would have found a way to move the ship -as they did) when he started fighting Lucci. The worst threat was Kizaru and he knows Luffy can take Kizaru no problem.
The Mars and York panel gives me so much "be not afraid" vibes. This eldritch bird is hovering over you and trying to ask you a question and you're tied down only forced to witness this horror lol
Sanji is said to be a military strategist of Strawhats rather than fighter in sbs (I really don't have the source because it's been a while since I read it idk where)
Theory: JoyBoy's crew was a reflection of Luffy's crew Iron Giant = Franky Zunisha = Chopper Poseidon = Jimbe Nefratari D Lily = Vivi And Pluton was their ship
I view joyboy as the bond between all of the races in a way. He can be as large as a giant or as small as a tontatta (although we haven’t seen Luffy this small, I believe it is in the realm of his DF to be possible), he can fight as though he has long arms or kick like he has long legs. It would seem to me that his abilities can resonate with all of the races in some capacity - I don’t see it as impossible for him to fly somehow with his power (outside of normal shounen jumping to levitate sort of things), we’ve seen his ability to ignite himself similar to a lunarian, we know Luffy has the VOAT, etc. it makes me think that Joyboy is a great unifier and that Oda is really showcasing how versatile it is, and I think that makes him available to everyone regardless of race so far. That’s my own opinion so far though.
oda def did not write zoro well this arc. I dont mind if he is weaker than we thought but he def should be going all out in this scenario. Luffy has the excuse that his nika powers make him more childish
I hate how the Zoro vs Lucci moment took away from Lucci's character weight. This was a man who almost ended Luffy on the spot. Now Luffy quite handedly defeated him (which was to be expected) and Zoro also toyed with him before finishing him off in one slash. It makes him look week. This was the character we were worried about in Onigashima as we thought he may join the battle somehow and cause havoc. I really hope Oda has something in mind for him; He's one of my favorite villains.
Lucci character is handled perfectly No one expects him to keep up with Zoro but he did You just having Weird expectations Lucci was a threat long ago to Luffy, he was a menace but he can’t beat up with the Yonkos and admirals and YC+
if you remember, King cobra before passing wanted to say something important and his dialogue was cut of by a giant roar...seems like king cobra had what luffy and giants had
We saw some humanity out of gorosei too with Lucci incident, I think Lucci knows that he wont be spared, but for them to even say that they wont willingly eliminate Kaku is a big deal And I'm happy that you liked gorosei lines Merphy and Imma let you finish, but Van Augur had the best one liner in all of Egghead Calling gorosei by their form is good enough, I remember them as bird, boar, Gandhi, etc. I dont remember their names yet, except Saturn
Tbh, zoro seemed way more winded and hurt than he should have even for a foe like lucchi. i think it def has something to do with the drug he took at the Raid because i csmt seee anyway zoro could go from blocking attacks from yonko and beating kaidou's right hand to struggling with rob lucchi
You right Merphy, the Zoro fight was annoying. It was beneath Zoro but Oda needed him out of the way to let Luffy fight an admiral and a Gorosei. It's annoying. It's like Ray not being allowed to beat Oden when Roger wanted a crack at him.

It would explain why the blasts didn't explode upon the impact of the bat. It would also make sense given that luffy is seemingly able to spawn things using the power of imagination. So maybe he summoned his armament haki in the form of paint?
I would say yes, because the baseball helmet is also haki black and it is armor for baseball players
@@Ryquard1 agreed. I'm glad I'm not only one who could see it being a thing.
Cue the baseball song, the cheers of the crowd, and the crinkling of snacks. Luffy has stepped up to bat
I always wait for your one piece videos after every chap. Your enthusiasm and passion towards this story is something i really enjoy
When you went on that Sanji tangent I remembered Luffy's words: "I can't become pirate king without you"🥺
Poor Sanji he hasn’t had to deal with dinner rush stress this bad since baratie
Love how you give credit to Sanji and how goated Oda is balancing between funny and intense moments!! Oda and one piece is the BEST
Also I 100% agree with you that Warcury turned his tusks into swords and am actually surprised there's people who believe, without any actual evidence or reason, that those swords are independent of his other tusks... Like what?
Zoro has the lesson 'one doesn't hunt rabbits with a Canon' carved into his flesh
Bonney on the color spread with the Straw Hats in her normal state is definitely giving me new crewmate vibes.
Kuma and Vegapunk are also in the color spread. Seems like a typical "friends from the current arc" inclusion to me.
That would make her the first of the "Worst Generation" to join. At this point, I feel like her motivation to adventure has been fulfilled (that is, find her dad and make peace with why he left)
@@curtishammer748 But now that she's found the God she's believing in her whole I feel like she'd follow Luffy in the same way Shanks was a protege to Roger.
@@MidKnightDetective Luffy straight up refused when 5600 people volunteered to be his followers. I'm all for Bonney being Team Luffy from here on, but a nakama? I doubt it
@@curtishammer748 I personally think this is going to loop back to Kuma saving the Straw Hats and Luffy repaying is debt as he passes away to protect Bonney. I don't believe in her traveling around the world with Kuma after Egghead for lots of reason. Especially with islands sinking around the world and her being a target of the WG until their brought down. Also I do believe she might be Shanks sister and her blood father is Garling.
I don't think you need to worry about the skirt, even though you mentioned it, I still didn't notice anything.
People were looking at something else
i am really hoping we see some kind of kizaru redemption by the end of this arc
I love these videos . I love one piece so much and coming to your channel is like talking to a friend!
One piece is the Odyssey of Japan ! When that thought came I couldn’t get it out of my mind.
Mamá Merphy, thanks for helping me wake up at work (almost) every Monday.
I really missed this Sanji, really happy I got to see him again.
15:2 yea indeed if you look closely at those swords there are markings just like on his head and on his other tusk in that form
Sanji and Jinbei are honestly in mom & dad mode. 🤣
3:11 Wow! That's a REALLY good point! This is the dude that rocked up on Big Mom, looked her in the eye, and demonstrated his utter fearlessness when severing his relationship with a Yonko!
I’m pretty sure zoro has no idea any elders were on the island at all soo
Zoro: "Guys, I leave you alone for 15 minutes and the whole world ends?!?"
he doesn't know the elders are there specifically, but lucci asking zoro if he wants to go find the source for the overwhelming haki means he definitely knows some insanely powerful people are there
Yh Zoro is usually the one who tells Luffy to take things seriously. This felt weird
Thanks Merphy....idk if its because of his cooking prep but Sanji is great at strategizing when he's not with ladies or with Zoro. I'll never forget the Mr. Prince covert operation lol. Or the Big Mom cake plan.
i mean Lucci still standing isn't that crazy. He's an awakened zoan after all
Merphy One Piece is on break for 3 weeks, time for other manga series to get videos!
It is nice to see the parallels between Little Garden and Egghead!
It's important to YOU for Zoro to win with a handicap. Important to your agenda.
@@KingdomKing13 Oda made it clear. You're just in denial, cope harder 😥
Merphy a Celestial Dragon confirmed.
Sangi is a chef makes sense he can manage and plan in the chaos
I Love monday mornings with Merphy's One Piece reviews! I'm gonna miss that. See you next month, nakamatachi!
7:08 those translations are bad. TCBscans does it better. Here’s from TCBscans, “That might not be possible.. It’s hard to single out a lone insect, when you’re exterminating the hive!”
3:52 I completely agree, Oda does have a bit trouble with that- remember in Wano Denjiro was gone for over 100 chapters 😳
I trust Oda but it makes me worry about the “Final Battle” as it will be HUGE and have sooo many moving pieces and factions
I love waking up on a Monday because it means Merphy Napier chapter review🥳🥳
You’re 100% right. The elders have some absolutely cold lines. They’re raw. Designs too
This is 3 chapters worth. There's a lot going on in a single chapter.
Edit: I also think Topman Warcury's tusks (or teeth?) can turn into swords
Zoro was using three sword style the entire fight. His sword got knocked out of his hand in the beginning of chapter 1110 and then he caught it after he overheard Sanji badmouthing him. He was fighting seriously the entire time
16:41 🥵👍 I❤OP
Mmm
you made a very good point about kizaru appearing on a panel before the iron giant!
You look amazing. Loved your vibe and excitement.
Zoro definitely looked weak, but I think that was the point, he is getting a bit full of himself now that he's got conquerors haki.
Loved this chapter so much!!
Sanji is said to be a military strategist of Strawhats rather than fighter in sbs (I really don't have the source because it's been a while since I read it idk where)
I think his vivre card had him as both the cook and the adviser of the straw hats
Theory: JoyBoy's crew was a reflection of Luffy's crew
Iron Giant = Franky
Zunisha = Chopper
Poseidon = Jimbe
Nefratari D Lily = Vivi
And Pluton was their ship
Gear 3 deflated Luffy is quite small, so I think you're on to something. We only got to see it a couple of times, but it did happen.
Great video as always.
oda def did not write zoro well this arc. I dont mind if he is weaker than we thought but he def should be going all out in this scenario. Luffy has the excuse that his nika powers make him more childish
"this is zoro's marineford" HAS ME CRY LAUGHING LMAO
just saying snail phones so nonchalantly is somehow incredibly funny
Sanji is getting love from Merphy❤
I hate how the Zoro vs Lucci moment took away from Lucci's character weight. This was a man who almost ended Luffy on the spot. Now Luffy quite handedly defeated him (which was to be expected) and Zoro also toyed with him before finishing him off in one slash. It makes him look week. This was the character we were worried about in Onigashima as we thought he may join the battle somehow and cause havoc. I really hope Oda has something in mind for him; He's one of my favorite villains.
Lucci character is handled perfectly
No one expects him to keep up with Zoro but he did
You just having Weird expectations
Lucci was a threat long ago to Luffy, he was a menace but he can’t beat up with the Yonkos and admirals and YC+
if you remember, King cobra before passing wanted to say something important and his dialogue was cut of by a giant roar...seems like king cobra had what luffy and giants had
The gorosei deserve they're own nice OTS like Katakuri Big Mom Kaido just to name a few when the anime will animate them they are badass
We saw some humanity out of gorosei too with Lucci incident, I think Lucci knows that he wont be spared, but for them to even say that they wont willingly eliminate Kaku is a big deal
And I'm happy that you liked gorosei lines Merphy and Imma let you finish, but Van Augur had the best one liner in all of Egghead
Calling gorosei by their form is good enough, I remember them as bird, boar, Gandhi, etc.
Love Luffy painting his homemade bat black as a visual gag for his haki
😭Oda really give us a big cliffhanger!! I love Gear 5 so much!
Hope he rest well and came back stronger
You right Merphy, the Zoro fight was annoying. It was beneath Zoro but Oda needed him out of the way to let Luffy fight an admiral and a Gorosei. It's annoying. It's like Ray not being allowed to beat Oden when Roger wanted a crack at him.
I think Sanji said that about Zoro to get him to finish the fight. Knowing he’ll get the job done if he heard it.🤔one step ahead.
Great breakdown 🤙🏻
