I don’t know why I wrote it like a letter probably cause I love the idea of getting an actual fan letter (or giving one) to my favorite story tellers and since I can’t send you one an online letter was the second best thing.
Little disclaimer: Shanks didn’t per se „leave behind“ his ancestry. He was found in a chest by Roger and his crew following the God Valley incident and subsequently adopted. So Garling had his baby sons with him during the human hunt (what dads do, am I right) and probably put them in the chests of the prices so that they would be safe during the battle, leading one to fall into the hands of the Roger Pirates
This chapter clears up one of the events during the reverie in chapter 907, when "Shanks" walked up to the Gorosei to "talk about a certain pirate". Since we see Shamrock in a cloak in Elbaf, it is safe to assume that it was him in Marijoa, and he wanted to talk about Loki.
Wanted to talk about Loki makes sense. I mean they're here trying to convince him to become a God's Knight, so talking to the Gorosei about him does track.
@@Nightlingbolt I am not so sure. I think he knew. That was his plans to end all of the giants. Make them weak so they can't fight back. If memory servers me right Carmel made the first non giant settlement on Elbaf. If that is true I think he was send the kids too.
@ The way I see it turning out, Harald wanted open trade with the Government, but they betrayed him, which led to Shamrock massacring Harald and the 100 soldiers. Jarul arrived too late to stop Shamrock and blamed Loki, the only survivor, for the incident, which led to Loki impaling Jarul with Harald’s sword. The thing is, the Government doesn’t want Elbaph as an equal trade partner, but as a military asset under their sole control.
My guess for the bodies is either There's something more to the story Or the castle is considered the 'battlefield where they perished' and with how much they rever the way a warrior dies and how much died they decided to seal it. Still suspicious nonetheless for not even arranging them however
My first thought when reading was "oh, nobody is allowed to go in here no matter what? It's because there's evidence to what really happened that Jarul (likely) is trying to keep secret."
We already know from Volume 4000000000 (free volume given to people who saw Film Red) that Shanks was found in a treasure chest at God Valley at the age of 1 and adopted by the Roger Pirates. So it's not so much that he chose to leave the life of a Celestial Dragon but rather that he probably wasn't aware of his origins until he was already established as a pirate.
I really love these discussions, since I am not familiar with many works you cover on the main book channel, I don't really connect there. But your analyses really are enjoyable. I hope Oda touches on the dynamic you mentioned of Harold/the rest of the world/other giant clans, depending on what really happened. I love the general theme of peace and human development, cooperation and profression over war, agression, competition and tradicionalism. On paper the giants of old sound ruthless and evil but we see how kind and friendly they are in the story, it's an admirable and enviable complexity of writing. Have a good one
It may not be NORSE mythology per say, but in Japanese culture, especially in antiquity, it was common for them to change the capital of the country whenever a ruler had died. They believed that it corrupted or polluted that place in a sense. I don't know if that was the inspiration for this specifically but I wouldn't doubt it.
The line, "KingHajruddin wanted to be King of the Giants!" Perhaps some kind of theme or story parallel in reference to Luffy. Hajruddin wanted to untie them, will Luffy try to untie pirates in peace? What does it mean to be King of the Pirates?
It's fascinating that Loki isn't trying to manipulate them. He could say he will join if they grab his keys and then betray them. His sense of honor won't let him even pretend to ally with celestial dragons.
the "acient gigant blood" can also explain how why characters like Kido or Yamato randomly have horns, the most be descendants of this race that where mix more and more with humans unti they become bigger than normal humans but relativly smaller to gigants and the horn is mantain as a dominant trait. hey we can even say that character like Caesar, Pizzaro, Dellinger, Moira, Ulti and others that have hornes but we just imagine it was quorky Oda character desing, is actually explain by the fact that even if is small they have a percentage of Acient Gigant in them.
Some of those wouldn't surprise me if they had ancient giant blood, like Moria, however I will point out that Dellinger doesn't belong on that list since his horns are from his fighting fish fishman ancestry.
I think we will see either a flashback to Fisher Tigers liberation of the slaves or Dolflamingo's entry into Castle Pangea as it was the last time the majority of the gods knights was mobilized to contend with a big threat.
I think King Harald was doing secret deals with the WG. The fact that Mother Carmel ran her operation in Elbaph during his reign is pretty telling. I also wouldn't be surprised if we see both Kaido and Big Mom show up at some point in this arc.
I think you might have it backwards, I think. Harold had a plan in order to reunite the world because he was in love with hajrudin's mom, but The divisions and politics of his kingdom did not allow him to be with her. We've seen many stories where even the king cannot marry who he wants to marry because of politics and the views of his people. So his goal was to correct elbaph in its path and then use that to connect with the rest of the world. He just never got to the second half. They did say that he was never able to finish what he wanted to start.
I wonder how they will attempt to take control of Elbaph. They are definitely not sending another buster call. Maybe the Holy Knight will just simply go over to the Giants and asks permission to establish Navy settlements. The Giants want peace anyway so they can frame it as promoting international trade.
The french attire of Shamrock reminds me of that story about the twin princes, i think the movie adaptation is the man in the irom mask or something. Also could be a Oda interpretation of the prince and the pauper
Your point about King Harald's dichotomy as a man of unity with racial biases was explored somewhat with Fisher Tiger. So Oda has successfully portrayed these complicated advocates for coexistence before. I don't know if that confirms if he'll do it again for good measure or go an alternate route to keep it fresh, but I thought the connection was neat.
But Fisher Tiger freed all the human slaves. He had racial biases, but he didn't let that cause hurt to any other people. He only succumbed to such biases when it affected himself alone. I don't think Hancock or Koala care about any bias Fisher Tiger had, he's their saviour regardless.
@IamGrimalkin I wasn't really trying to compare the two action-to-action, especially since there's more to learn regarding Harald. I just knew Fisher had his biases but still did the right thing, and it's possible that's how it might play out in Harald's past too. Good point though
4:16 I think the castle was supposed to serve as a tomb for everyone, but I agree that they could have, I don't know, separated the bodies and not left the corpses on top of each other
You can see in the panel where Hajrudin said he wanna become the King of The Giants that he is bigger than all of his crew because of the oni/ancient giants blood. Also, Hajrudin thinks that being the King of The Giants means uniting all of the giant tribes, what does Luffy thinks being The King of The Pirates means. Could this help us look deeper into Luffy's true dream
A thought that might be interesting is if the ancient giants were originally pacifists and regular giants are the violent ones and when harold ripped out his horns it sent him into a frenzy where he had all this unexplained rage and didn’t know how to control it anymore
You pronounce it like HI-RUDE-IN /a Swedish guy And he will definitely end up being the king. After he declared that he will unite all giant tribes and be its king, being an actual underling of sorts to Luffy (the confirmed Nika) it becomes obvious that his role is to do exactly that. Just as the grand fleet has a member of the long arm tribe and one from the long leg tribe who we've seen in a cover story actually unite their tribes alltogether after generational hatred under Luffy's jolly roger it's fair to assume that the grand fleet in the bigger picture represents the unification of all races. And there's also the tontatta. (I'd also add the minks as grand fleet adjacent)
something interesting to note is that King Harald's sword seems to be the sword implanted in Jarul's head. The hand guard looks the same and, based on the other swords in the mausoleum that is the castle, it seems like a unique sword guard
Maan Oda loves contrasting Parallels. Kizaru is slow in personality while holding the fastest devil fruit. Cobra, Riku were weak and rejected the higher ups in their own way. My guess is Harold was the strongest physically but weak mentally. Probably wanted to get accepted by humans I'm guessing. And look no further than the Holy Knights. Loki saw him selling out and snapped I guess. I also we see more Elbaf giants with ancient giant blood. I don't want a repeat of Wano. Folks for years thought the Wano samurai were gonna be fearsome but what we got wasn't exactly that 😅. I really want the giants to live up to the name of strongest giant
Something i noticed with her arrow arrow power, it looks exactly like the power used to kill King Cobra. So that means she either knows Emu is. Or she is emu. With the former being way more likely.
Harald is getting more and more interesting. So is this weird eugenics, ethnocentrism, tribalism, nationalism that seems to be among the Elbaf giants versus the other tribes of giants? Shamrock looks so cool, and I love the name. But it makes me wonder what Shanks’ real name is. I have two theories. I think it's either another plant closely associated with a holiday (Garling is very close to Garland) or it's another plant in the same family as Shamrock. Shamrock can be in the wood-sorrel family so I think Shank's real name could be Figarland Sorrel. If we go with classic twin names, Shamrock and Sorrel sound pretty good. Also, we have Garling (like Garland) and Shamrock. We also have Clover. Old Garling looked similar to Clover. What are the chances they're distantly related?
I think Shanks is his real name, it was somehow written in the chest where he was found (clothes, blanket, note, etc.) I think if he had a different birth name then someone in the world government would've dead named him by now
I believe that what happened in the castle is systematic cleansing. Those dead giants are the ones who have strong belief to keep elbaf as war country, thus the king makes the plan to wipe them out in order to change the the country to a more peaceful state. And perhaps loki was opposed to this plan, so it led to a clash between the two..
How so? I'm sure jorul is just a senile old guy with a sword in his skull, I feel like the giants of elbaf got the whole situation wrong though like everyone except like Loki shanks and harold know whats up, harold look actually devious idk why nobody thinks he does
@@inevidableexpression My unsubstantiated guess is that King Harald was actually a huge softie who was hurt whenever someone (mostly humans) was scared by his appearance. His fellow giants liked him for being so tough but that was not what he wanted. Child Loki probably tired to live up to his example (by bringing his animal friends into the village) but he didn't like humans too much for "making his dad cry". As time passed, King Harald made some progress in spreading the idea of piece among other giants but that greatly displeased the old traditionalists. They manipulated Loki into opposing his father's ideas and when he went to the castle to argue with him, they struck and killed the King. Loki was then given the blame. People already pointed out that the Sword in Jorul's head looks like the one of King Harald. While this might hint to a Harald betrayal, it might also be his final attempt at striking down the one responsible. For some reason, I'm thinking about the "those aren't my ships" moment in Frankies backstory, where Tom also beat up Spandam for breaking his son's heart.
Merphy once again showing why she's one of the best at analyzing themes. Blew my mind with Gunko's power being a possible representation of predetermined fate
Focusing on the horns in this chapter just makes me think that it’s going to be key point or reason to the story. Mostly because Loki still has his horns. Idk. I’m probably focused on the wrong thing but it stood out to me.
I think the reason they weren’t buried is because this was a special battle where warriors died standing and perhaps they would have considered it a dishonor to have their site of their sacrifice touched or moved. That’s my best guess. Why this changed from the past burial traditions I’m not sure
I dont know if its possible but i would love to see you talk One piece with some other creators like OTAKUBROZ and HAYLO & KISS, they're the only 2 reactors i follow that seems to understand and react almost the same way i did back then, and you beeing the one creator that really feels like loves the book and beeing so well spoken and understandable would be amazing.
Could be that Harald was resentful of Elbaf tradition that kept him from being able to marry Hajrudin’s mom and was actually working towards making sure that could happen but could only do that after converting Elbaf to a more pacifistic ideal.
lol the fight that happened in the castle is sus. Only Jarul survived, meaning everything they know about what happened was Jarul’s recollection of the story. The same Jarul who is the oldest senile giant who has a sword stuck on his brain. There is more to this than just loki going on a rampage.
What you said in the end there made me think... Maybe King Harald wanted those reforms to weaken Elbaf and prep it to be conquered more easily? Maybe he was mind controlled or replaced by an impostor or just a sell out? Idk, but his portrait doesn't exactly scream pacifist
Hajrudin being the sort of bastard son compared to Loki could be a good parallel to Shamrock and Shanks. Especially if Garling knowingly left Shanks in the treasure chest that Roger found.
Are we sure that it was the God Knights that broke that door! Maybe it was already broken by someone trying to escape Kind Haralds madness when everyone was killed 👀
The connections with Harold and Kaido is pretty cool here. It feels like it’s still too late for us not to have a backstory for Kaido because Wano is now over, BUT I’m glad it does seem like we could possibly understand why Kaido knew what he knew and did what he did with Harold’s story if they are connected.
@shameryda I mean knowing about Joyboy. He told King he was Joyboy when they first met and also alluded to Luffy being Joyboy because he said Joyboy will be the one who defeats him. He indicated he chose Wano as the place he would conquer because if Joyboy were to come, they’d have to get past Kaido in Wano. That’s why a lot of people think it Kaido were to be revived somehow, he would be on Luffy’s side since he, for some reason, was waiting for Joyboy and wanted to be defeated by Joyboy. That is why this arc might give us the answers as to why he did what he did and knew what he knew.
I think based on the flashback to Shanks being found at God Valley in a chest as a baby, he was likely banished possibly as twins aren't allowed or something. But I am curious how he felt when he found out his lineage.
I haven't finished video but i gotta say: this reels of Figarland Garling.... My head canon is that Garling blackmailed King Harrol into submitting and forced him to rake off his horns as a form of submission. Loki must've taken blame to save face for the Giant Race.
I like a lot of your theories Murph, but I think you jumped on the hate-Harald train a little early. I don't think you're necessarily wrong, but it might not be as extreme as you say.
My takes that I take away from this chapter are the following: 1. I think the Arrow fruit is the second special paramecia in the series 2. Given how Warcury is a reference to the Valkyries I think the Heaven layer of Elbaph could be a holiday home for the Celestial Dragons and Topman's homeland 3. I think Ripley sometime in the past was a pirate on Loki's crew 4. Genko's name is a reference to Ginko a plant that symbolises hope in Japan 5. I think Whitebeard's ally Thunder Lord McGuy could be a bastard son of Herald given how they have similar eyebrows and a pointy moustache and could be the arcs answer to Thor 6. Ripley could be connected to King Harold himself or his court given her tattoo 7. Mosa could be McGuy in shellshock from the payback war and an unkempt appearance
I wonder if Gunko was actually in the throne room behind Imu or something like that and was actually the one who executed Cobra on his behalf. It would mean we haven’t actually seen what Imu can do, although it could just as well be that Imu has all the powers or something absurd like that, or it just resembles that for another reason P.S. Game of Thrones had Cleganebowl, and One Piece should have Figarlandbowl. These brothers clearly have to fight at some point
I think the king sold out his race and kingdom to become a celestial dragon / God Knight. What if the castle was sealed shut, not to prevent anybody from coming in, but to prevent the Giants from leaving. There is a pile of dead giants near the exit. The door got broken from the inside out. I think it was a setup to kill the remaining giant warriors, an execution of their remaining military force. I think the WG gave King Harold an offer, dismantle the military might of Elbaf and become a Celestial Dragon. The King Harold and the God Knights slaughtered them until Loki stopped them. The only warrior left is Elder Jarool, who lost his memory due to being stabbed through his head, even after his helmet saved him. The dead bodies aren't allowed to leave the castle because somebody might figure out it wasn't Loki who killed them.

So Garling had his baby sons with him during the human hunt (what dads do, am I right) and probably put them in the chests of the prices so that they would be safe during the battle, leading one to fall into the hands of the Roger Pirates
I think Garling had twins so he put one up as a winable prize during god valley.
@@swike784u7 Also a possibility. Garling is that kind of bastard
That is what I said or Shanks.
Wanted to talk about Loki makes sense. I mean they're here trying to convince him to become a God's Knight, so talking to the Gorosei about him does track.
@@Rutabega_NGonly flaw is Loki isn't considered a pirate
@@shameryda fair enough, but he did go out to sea for a bit.
@@Rutabega_NGI’m against it being shamrock they said that it was unusual for some one of his title or something to be talking to them
Couldn’t wait for your take on this.
Shamrock stating Elbaf would be under the World Government makes me believe the king was evil.
Or at least had no idea of the true nature of the World Government.
Crazy that "El Hermano" was actually a thing
I’m waiting for el calvo blanco to arrive next

My guess for the bodies is either There's something more to the story
Or the castle is considered the 'battlefield where they perished' and with how much they rever the way a warrior dies and how much died they decided to seal it.
Hajruddin, not Harald. Hajruddin, the son, wants to unite all giants

Shamrock vs Shanks is in the horizon
It's fascinating that Loki isn't trying to manipulate them. He could say he will join if they grab his keys and then betray them. His sense of honor won't let him even pretend to ally with celestial dragons.
One thing worth considering: the horned helmets of giants might be to reminisce of the real horns of ancient giants.
the "acient gigant blood" can also explain how why characters like Kido or Yamato randomly have horns, the most be descendants of this race that where mix more and more with humans unti they become bigger than normal humans but relativly smaller to gigants and the horn is mantain as a dominant trait. hey we can even say that character like Caesar, Pizzaro, Dellinger, Moira, Ulti and others that have hornes but we just imagine it was quorky Oda character desing, is actually explain by the fact that even if is small they have a percentage of Acient Gigant in them.
Not everyone that has horns is ancient giant related lol. Let's not start that.
Some of those wouldn't surprise me if they had ancient giant blood, like Moria, however I will point out that Dellinger doesn't belong on that list since his horns are from his fighting fish fishman ancestry.
15:38 zoros ability to get lost has to play with this DF.
Luffy is goning to try to dodge the arrow kick from Gunko only to get kicked, then go G5 and move it to hit her own face, or something like that.
I think we will see either a flashback to Fisher Tigers liberation of the slaves or Dolflamingo's entry into Castle Pangea as it was the last time the majority of the gods knights was mobilized to contend with a big threat.
Im so hyped merphy!
we got shamrock before gta 6!
They did say that he was never able to finish what he wanted to start.
the Elbaf Arc with its monarchy is very Shakespearean in its style
I still can’t wait for Usopp to lead an army of giants. He’s done everything else he said in his stories to Kaya. This is the only thing that’s left.
I wonder how they will attempt to take control of Elbaph. They are definitely not sending another buster call. Maybe the Holy Knight will just simply go over to the Giants and asks permission to establish Navy settlements. The Giants want peace anyway so they can frame it as promoting international trade.
Nakama! I met you thru Onepiece. I recently started the wheel of time series and really enjoyed your review. Currently wrapped up The Great Hunt
5:46 Harald giving me lots of Odin vibes(Great Warrior turned to Peace)
The french attire of Shamrock reminds me of that story about the twin princes, i think the movie adaptation is the man in the irom mask or something. Also could be a Oda interpretation of the prince and the pauper
You know with the arrow fruit, Luffy has the opportunity to the Bugs Bunny sign that changes the directions of the attack
Yes Merph, they should have been buried. But think about this. It makes the setting look cool
The setting? You don't think having a room full of dead bodies is normal? I got one of those in my house rn
@@inevidableexpression I am not talking about real life here. A fictional abandoned castle filled with skulls and skeletons is cool
It's almost as if there was a monster or an enemy inside the castle and they tried to seal them inside until they vanished.
The way you describe him makes the King seem like Otohime and Fisher Tiger put together
10:32 This is all but confirmed with Saul, when he was found by Robin he made it clear he wasnt associated with the brutes of Elbaf
Come on merph, I've been waiting for your review since 3 days ago
I feel like I feel like Merphy's going to lose it when she sees the mural in the next chapter
You were on your A game today with the jokes 😂
You pronounce it like HI-RUDE-IN /a Swedish guy
And he will definitely end up being the king.
The hand guard looks the same and, based on the other swords in the mausoleum that is the castle, it seems like a unique sword guard
that is super crazy that they did not bury the dead
I'm surprised that you didn't talk about king herald kind of looking like Kaido and Kaido possibly being part ancient giant
I think we always forget what pirates and viking raiders really are and what they do to civilians.
He also has the same haircut sense, just different style.
Mistletoe
I think Shanks is his real name, it was somehow written in the chest where he was found (clothes, blanket, note, etc.) I think if he had a different birth name then someone in the world government would've dead named him by now
I believe that what happened in the castle is systematic cleansing. Those dead giants are the ones who have strong belief to keep elbaf as war country, thus the king makes the plan to wipe them out in order to change the the country to a more peaceful state. And perhaps loki was opposed to this plan, so it led to a clash between the two..
The sword on jarul head looks like King harald sword ( the one on his portrait )
I still think that King Harald was really a god guy and that it's Jorul who played him and Loki against eachother.
How so? I'm sure jorul is just a senile old guy with a sword in his skull, I feel like the giants of elbaf got the whole situation wrong though like everyone except like Loki shanks and harold know whats up, harold look actually devious idk why nobody thinks he does
@@inevidableexpressionIt's a bit strange because all the presents in the castle were killed with no witnesses...
Nothing wrong with cheese! I like a healthy amount of it in my stories!
That's a mighty big reveal in the thumbnail
Dang, Harold really said I HAVE NO EMEMIES with his ENTIRE chest.
Why this changed from the past burial traditions I’m not sure
man im sooo waiting for loki to be free, this guy gonna do crazy things soon
I dont know if its possible but i would love to see you talk One piece with some other creators like OTAKUBROZ and HAYLO & KISS, they're the only 2 reactors i follow that seems to understand and react almost the same way i did back then, and you beeing the one creator that really feels like loves the book and beeing so well spoken and understandable would be amazing.
The rats need a new mascot now that Shanks' name is cleared
You are there for that
Could be that Harald was resentful of Elbaf tradition that kept him from being able to marry Hajrudin’s mom and was actually working towards making sure that could happen but could only do that after converting Elbaf to a more pacifistic ideal.
lol the fight that happened in the castle is sus. Only Jarul survived, meaning everything they know about what happened was Jarul’s recollection of the story. The same Jarul who is the oldest senile giant who has a sword stuck on his brain. There is more to this than just loki going on a rampage.
I feel like future sight users can actually counter Gunko’s arrows. Luffy and Katakuri come to mind.
Mihawks gotta new frind now
That lowlife being a friend to the figarlands? 😂😂😂😂😂🤡
Yeah, there's no way Harald wasnt evil... He's the spitting image of tekken's Mishima Heihachi/jimpachi....as evil as they come those old bastards...
I thought that maybe him not being able to marry Hajrudin's mom might've been one of the reason why he hated Elbaf's war culture
He was frustrated with Elbaf tradition so he wished to change it, makes sense.
Are we sure that it was the God Knights that broke that door! Maybe it was already broken by someone trying to escape Kind Haralds madness when everyone was killed 👀
If you mean Jarul, it's not a Giant size gap, so who are you thinking of?
I’m wondering now if that “certain pirate” Shamrock asked the Gorosei about a while back was Loki.
What did kaido know if you're talking about Joyboy it was King who told him about Joyboy
My GOAT won't be slandered anymore
I haven't finished video but i gotta say: this reels of Figarland Garling.... My head canon is that Garling blackmailed King Harrol into submitting and forced him to rake off his horns as a form of submission. Loki must've taken blame to save face for the Giant Race.
The castle was abandoned as their tomb.
I like a lot of your theories Murph, but I think you jumped on the hate-Harald train a little early. I don't think you're necessarily wrong, but it might not be as extreme as you say.
My takes that I take away from this chapter are the following:
1. I think the Arrow fruit is the second special paramecia in the series
2. Given how Warcury is a reference to the Valkyries I think the Heaven layer of Elbaph could be a holiday home for the Celestial Dragons and Topman's homeland
3. I think Ripley sometime in the past was a pirate on Loki's crew
4. Genko's name is a reference to Ginko a plant that symbolises hope in Japan
5. I think Whitebeard's ally Thunder Lord McGuy could be a bastard son of Herald given how they have similar eyebrows and a pointy moustache and could be the arcs answer to Thor
6. Ripley could be connected to King Harold himself or his court given her tattoo
7. Mosa could be McGuy in shellshock from the payback war and an unkempt appearance
herald is the dad of kaido and kicked him out because he had horns, explains why he wanted to be JB and why he is obsessed with war.
I wonder if Gunko was actually in the throne room behind Imu or something like that and was actually the one who executed Cobra on his behalf. It would mean we haven’t actually seen what Imu can do, although it could just as well be that Imu has all the powers or something absurd like that, or it just resembles that for another reason
P.S. Game of Thrones had Cleganebowl, and One Piece should have Figarlandbowl. These brothers clearly have to fight at some point
Great analysis
The dead bodies aren't allowed to leave the castle because somebody might figure out it wasn't Loki who killed them.
i bet loki will join the crew. his df might be shape shifting and so he would make himself smaller to fit in the sunny.
Anyone else feel like King Harlod looks like Kaido?
Wait, what if buggy also celestial dragon, that is just gonna be wild 😂.
