This video previews the new ability to play as the tripods as well as a reworked tentacle system. Both are still in the early implementation phases and will undergo more improvements and potentially design reworks. Thanks for all of your patience. It's been quiet for the public but things have been moving rather quickly within the closed testers community with lots of new features, bug fix patches and optimizations. Development has been moving along and I'm excited to show you guys all the changes and improvements!
Temporary rising tripod interior sound is from this video: • Tripod Invasion Ambien...
Multiplayer would go crazy on this. Imagine if each map had 100 plus people running around trying to survive against people in the tripods.
We would be getting them tripod skins like the original wotw's novel tripod as a skin man I can imagine playing this like hide and seek games, the histeria would be insane in this game.
It is clearly going to be multiplayer, just like SCP Breach there is going to be multiple spawn faction, Military/Civilian/Aliens.
I presume Civilians objective would be to run away and survive, and the Military objective would be to secure Civilians and destroy the Tripods.
There's also going to add a timer limit of 3 days or something, maybe even a week, because Tripods and Aliens would be infected by germs and bacterias bringing the game to an end.
Raf is planning for multiplayer
Could be like a escape from Tarkov like br
That's what I was thinking
Finally, you can play as the good guys.

The details are so f*cking sick too.
The camera static while booting up, as it slowly rises from the dust.
And don't get me started on the probe section!
*Now this is pod racing!!*

I was HOPING to hear that terrifying trumpet sound and you did NOT disappoint! It sounded spot-on and amazing!
Still haunts my dreams, but damn it doesn’t get old.
@@dragonborncastle6409 Couldn't agree more. It just sounds so terrifying and ominous. I can just imagine living through that nightmare and being traumatized by that trumpeting.
Not only is it spot on but they made several new variations. I’m so stoked omg
Early Access rn: 👁️👄👁️@@Mike_StorM
The neighbors loved the 21 surrounding speakers out the windows, they all turned on their lamps just to tell the tripods somebody is at home!
I think H.G wells and Spielberg in particular would be extremely proud of you all for making this. Its amazing how terrifying this is, even playing as the aliens.
H. G. Wells hated the illustrations inspired by his book in the London magazines at the time of publication, I doubt these pointy militaristic tripods set in small town America would fare better.
Maybe one day someone will do a rendition that's true to the source.
@@mediaconsumer9114 i assume you're talking about the first designs by Warwick Goble, which yeah Wells hated them because they looked like they couldn't move at all, "tilted, stiff tripods without either flexibility or subtlety" in his own words. I think he did really like the Henrique Alvim designs however, which paved the way for most tripod designs since. Honestly considering how sci-fi has evolved since then I'd like to think Wells would like the Spielberg design as well, there's a few mismatched details here and there but to compare them to the accuracy of the Warwick Goble designs is a bit much imo.
@@BlindVoid yeah I think he'd like the 2005 designs, especially since he described the machines in the book as having tenticle-like appendages.
Considering the developer of this game is blatantly ripping off the franchise, without even asking for permission from the copyright holder. Says all you need to know.
It'll never get released. All he's doing is trying to encourage people to give money to a kickstarter, that he'll steal and then disappear.
@@WeRemainFacelessin their defense, the game is still in pre-alpha and nowhere near a profitable state yet. If they release a complete game using the designs and start making money off of it then that's when the copyright owners will get involved. They even have a custom back-up design to use for the game in case a situation like that happens. I'd say kudos to them for at least thinking ahead of time
Imagine you're playing as a human with your buddies, you get spotted by a tripod, it blows it's horn and you all panic and run for the nearest safehouse as you hear it's weapon charging up. That would be one of the most tense and fun things to experience.
I have been on the receiving end of said blow. Not many from my team survived. I wonder if they updated the game. I would really like a better weapon than just a javelin and an M4.
I feel like regular citizens shouldn't have guns to fight the aliens, so that the game follows the original. In the movie, they had pistols/revolvers max (against the tripod, this still wouldn't stand a chance). But I dunno, perhaps some basic defense isn't too bad.
@@constantine4331 as far as I last played the game( 1 month plus ago) the civilians don't have guns. Just the military.
imagine this had VR mode
Then imagine one of your other friends is actually the one piloting the Tripod
Funnily enough, one of the best parts for me is that there are multiple tripods. It doesn't feel like youre just "the player", but piloting just one of an entire army.
Oh well im sure they are gonna be adding alot more life to this game cuz yeah right now its a little lifeless. But none the less, this is sick.

it feels so weird to have been tracking a games development through updates on their youtube channel, and to actually see progress being made. Really hoping we can get our hands on a full product, and even more so, hoping we can actually play a finished product.
We will but it needs a lot more work yet so I hope it's not released for at least another year
I don't care if the game takes 2 more years, if the final product is going to be much better than these little "update snacks" even if it costs 100 dollars I will buy it
Imagine how sick this could be with a VR mode
It would be Hella sick but it would take the dev lots of time with a small budget and small team
vr actually sucks
We will have VR support, but not now.
They could make people run in fear and scream in despair, but what can they do, right? Not that they are sadistic.
Oh man, the civilian mode is especially made for VR. Would be unreal
The moment the probe camera came in blew me away. You have truly put care into so many facets of this so far
Same here and the screen on the pov reminded me of a Jeff Wayne game
To me it's the sound design. This dev put some heavy ambient to it that it gives you goosebumps on headphones

@Kaiyats why would they risk damage to their legs when they can just walk around em

I know that the NPC not running for their lives when you spot them is probably a flaw in their AI, but I think it would be cool if some NPCs would become paralyzed by shock or terror, making them an easy grab/kill while also making it more believable that some people would react differently to the situation.
They are recording them on their phones, lol.
yes AI needs more nuances. 22% chance to evade 22% chance to fight 12% to cower idk the list can go on
Remember how Dakota Fanning got grabbed in the film?
“Perolized” 🤔
It would be difficult to say the least but having crowding AI could be really cool too, everyone funnels to evacuation points escorted by national guard in the mid stage.
You should definitely add a feature where instead of rotating with the probe, you can just press R or something and the probe goes in reverse so that you don't have to start going under or over your body when you exit a room or turn around.
Yeah and same when your done searching the house you could just have it retract.
Very interesting mechanics and I think these are great suggestions
@@adambrandt1858you could press r to go reverse and hold r for like 2 seconds to retract
@@ReincarnationofiForgormore than likely you would have to hold our while you reverse, so it would probably be more of a proximity-based trigger. If you were within X number of inches from the doorway, it would retract, but if you are well within the confines of the building, it will just reverse
Just to go back when you press s, on the same path that you come in
omg I totally forgot about the cages on the back of tripods! It's so cool that's a feature.

The 2005 war of the worlds film made my childhood and seeing a game being made with the tripods brings me so much joy. The second this game is released to the public I'm purchasing it.
True, I love this movie as well and hope it does well on release.

can we please talk about how absurdly good this sound design is? the sound of the engines "spinning up" and the weapons getting ready to fire along with the really loud and overamplified noises just makes this so emersive and insane, its so good. and imagine this with good graphics, i mean this is pre alpha gameplay! who ever did this, he/they did a great job
The beginning chilled my bones. Never thought i was gonna see through the eyes of the tripods, one of my greatest nightmare fuel monsters from cinema.
One suggestion is that the heatwave fire would leave persistent marks on the places, like burnt marks on floor and buildings. Like some decal/texture rendered over the regular textures. That would add much more mood to the game.
In the movie, the laser not affect any damsge for the road, it's just damaging wood houses. And only delete flesh i think
@@FreuRozen 'The' movie was actually just one of the movies and adaptiations. If you want an authoritative source it would be the book where the heat-rays melted iron and anything in its way.
This would be awesome. What would be better though, and I understand it's super difficult to do, would be to have actual destruction. If the Lazers actually carved into the ground or destroyed buildings. It would give humans ways to duck and weave more. They could run from one destroyed building to the next. Or run through the trenches created by the Lazers.
@@baddiemcbadbad9231 mean we have tear down game which has interesting physics which I love.
Roblox surprisingly has some weapons that can destroy some default base plates that can be destroyed and leave a physical mark on the ground and if you do it enough times you could make a big hole in the ground
That would afext performance, so could be problematic if it's trying to have many players in a single lobby

You missed an opportunity to write “no one would have believed”
@@maccathetracca😂
Some personal suggestions I would like to raise:
1: making the tripods first person view similar to the probe or something other than how we see as humans.
2: darkening the brightness of daytime and darkening even more for night to make the use of spotlights more rational as a game mechanic. (The idea behind it is that aliens are more sensitive to bright lights from wherever they came from)
3: adding a game mechanic for town or area population, as the higher the population of humans the stronger they become in the later days to follow. (It would be an incentive for the player and aliens to want to exterminate as much as possible but also leave some left over for harvest).
But yeah, other than that this game is looking great.
I agree with everything but the first one. If you made it all grainy it would be soooo hard to see the little ant like humans running arround. I could bearly even see them as is. I would say just put a kind of fish eye lense effect on the boarders of the screen and tint it just a tiny bit in green or purple or something. But just a tiny bit.just around the edges of the screen. That would be badass
I was going to suggest for probing that there was a way to quickly exit out of the view since it took forever to get back to the exit once a human was spotted inside. Presumably you want to kill them asap
By lore, they are from Mars.
Great ideas
@@eageraurora879 There is, I just wanted to go outside to show how its connected to the tripod

Okay I didn't expect all of this amazing progress from this channel but the fact I repeat the FACT that we now get to actually PLAY as the tripods themselves is DEFINITELY one of the best surprises I needed! Seriously from third person to the probes like DAMN!
Didn’t see that coming, now did we….
I have been dreaming about this game since I was kid xd

Two questions. Will houses also be destructible at some point (especially by heat rays)? And can you also abduct humans hiding in houses after finding them using the probe?
Aside from that, this looks incredible, especially the sound design is superb!
To my knowledge, everything is going to be destructible, took them a long time just to get the POD animations coming from the ground.
@@TheBeardedItalian99
That's good to hear :)
Back in the early days the plan was to make the buildings destructible, we got to see some footage of a Heatray exploding a building, at the time it was pretty janky but I believe there are still plans for destructible environments in the full release which I'm sure will look a lot better.
@@TheBeardedItalian99 Ya it's a big challenge to take on. My only hope is that they can stay engaged long enough to finish this game to the best of their ability. I would hate for them to get burnt out and release something unfinished, or worse, not release anything at all.

You're doing a fantastic job! I hope we can get to the point that we're all hoping for because you've basically nailed it so far, just needs more scale (not like map, more like the crowds and stuff) and liveliness I guess.
I had the same exact ideas like this for a game based on the 2005 War of the Worlds movie ever since I was a kid. I'm so happy it's finally becoming a real thing!

And improving asset quality/level of detail. Would love to see better-looking towns, buildings and scenery
@@joellouisfire Hopefully we see that in the later stages of development, maybe alongside some persistent destruction physics on houses and ground damage from the heat rays.
@@joellouisfire tbh those are things i would be fine being polished after/during the Early Access phase. I know the developers of this game are perfectionists and the AAA gaming world is basically a huge meme nowadays with their broken, unfinished releases. But everything that is basically just a matter of optimization and polish im fine with coming later, at least when talking about "Early Access".
I can't even begin to imagine how awesome it must be to actually play from the perspective of a tripod 😮
I’m glad that this project is still going strong! I’m really looking forward to its release.
I get why there's a third-person camera, but I feel like this should be disabled in multiplayer (assuming there will be human and tripod players in the same lobby) because the increased field of view is a massive advantage against human players. Humans that could sneak behind a Tripod and run away wouldn't be able to do so if a Tripod player simply turns the camera around.
That or you could implement a fog-of-war type mechanic where you can't see any humans if the aliens couldn't see any from their perspective, like in Project Zomboid.

My Mom who grew up on it, then me who fell in love with the last movie. Then of course my cousin who's growing up and being introduced through video game trailers and getting excited.

This is, unironically, unsarcastically, totally seriously the best in development game I've seen in a long time, I can not wait to see this out and fully developed and I do plan to pay however much this will cost me. I would in fact pay 60$ for this game. It would be really cool to see multiplayer come out first and MAYBE if the dev feels like it I'm sure some others too would like to see a singleplayer campaign where you either play as the aliens or the humans and maybe even a sandbox mode would be cool. But one step at a time, keep up the good work
this looks incredible, phenomenal work.
I wonder if the bellowing of the Tripods could be a communication medium for players controlling them. The classic one might be "prey identified, engaging", the very cool new one you made might be "threats detected", and others etc. Would be neat for multiplayer, and to interact with fellow tripods or to glean information from said fellow tripods. They'd probably pop up in your snazzy alien HUD which I am anxious to see improved (even though the version here is ALREADY nice!) already transcribed with the distance and the identifier of the tripod who sounded it.. though I do hope they don't give off a waypoint or anything unless you're in mono audio mode. Maybe on a minimap at most? No clue, I have full confidence you guys know best for your game.
Anyway freaking AMAZING video! Such a surprise! I'm so pumped for this game!
They totally could be, games like the Isle and Path of Titans make use of using #'s on your keyboard, causing your dinosaur to make vocalizations of different intents
@@Von_Langstein and when you return as a player, you start understanding what each horn means 😟
The tripods in the film seemed to have at least three distinct calls. The main tripod roar we're most familiar with seems to indicate "humans located" which calls other tripods to the calling tripod's location from all directions. Then during the early parts of the Ferry scene, one of the tripods lets out a different call while examining the fleeing humans with its spotlights; I think this call might have been a signal saying, "Leave them alive to be captured." And toward the end of the film the tripod the marines take down seemed to give off a new call we haven't heard before, which might be a distress call since its systems were failing. They definitely seem to use the calls to communicate to each other.
i hope for the human players the bellows are either randomized or otherwize unintelligible, sure it could be cool to strategize by learning the specific bellows and what they mean but that would ruin the point of the bellows being so strange and alien to humans, it would just go from being horrifying to hearing it and thinking you need to run Now or shoot Now
@@blehh_mae it does make sense to allow a secret means of communication. Humans are quite good at gleaning what sounds or even motions mean.

Why do I feel like you are making history here? As a fellow Spielberg's WotW fan, I see so much love and details you put into your visionary game.

Same!
Three generations of my family are excited for this game as well. My mother, little cousin and I. It's stunning to put in mindset that this story, It's details are so beloved that generation after generation falls in love with it.
@@ieajackson5518 Well the first I really have to say how realistic it is. As the book is great, it was written a long time ago and the mindset of it did not age really well I would say. With 2005 movie you are actually struck with an event that noone can explain, seen from a perspective of not a hero and also not a greatest dad in the world main character. No love plot, no bullshit, just a guy who wants to survive and has to protect his children which he, as we see in the movie, is not really interrested in. Second, the sound design is so fkn amazing that the tripod horn sound still to this day makes me shiver, and I am writing this as a 34 years old guy who seen the movie as a 15 years old back then. Third, its the overall design and feel of the movie. The holy trio of the cinema - Spielberg, Kaminski, Williams - did it again, fully emerging viewer into action just like with Schindlers list or Saving private Ryan. IDK if you saw the movie in the cinema, but for me it was like I was there or watching a found footage camera sometimes. The music score with its high violin contrasting the deep brass instruments works so well as the violins are of wood, organic, and brass is metal, heavy and forged. That is really interresting for me as the tripods - as I understand from the movie - are working like an organism. You can hear its engines beat liks a heart in some scenes, the probe drone is shown with veins and liquids oozing from it when it is struck with an axe and also at the end, the alien emerges from tripod after a lot of liquid pours down. Camera is also very realistic, stays on the ground for the whole movie with an exeption of like 5 seconds of the very first tripod scene (probably to show us how big the tripods actually are). Kaminski is know for using his camera very smart, he knows exactly what he is doing and what to show us, which is extremely important in Earth invasion movies. In the crowd scenes you always know what is going on as the camera is focused on important things. In the cellar, you feel the claustrophobia with wider lenses used for filming, showing all the shit Ray and his daughter stepped into. All and all, to me this is a perfect and flawless invasion movie, starring the biggest hollywood star, directed by the greatest hollywood director using his visionary style to revive a 100 years old sci-fi book.
@@ieajackson5518 The aliens are unique...or at least their weapons of mass destruction are. It rings true too - as human technology has developed, our weapons of war have gotten bigger and bigger (carriers, tanks, etc) -- so it would stand to reason that beings that are so many generations ahead of us would be fighting on such a massive scale.

Dude, this game is gonna be legendary. From the bottom its a terrifying experience to witness these things, and other side of the coin your literally playing like a classic alien domination game. Dude this is sick. Its getting better with ever video!!
Amazingly well. Done sound design I love sound design so much.
Brilliantly made, I would totally buy this
this looks amazing, it would be really cool to see how people would strategically survive and run in unorganised panic too
One of my childhood dreams realized. Even for a pre-alpha this looks really good and promising. Bravo!
God this looks so sick, keep up the good work!!!
Well this is the coolest thing ever !!! LOVE THE SOUNDS!!!
we honestly need more game like this. were you truly feel a part of the setting. the looks, the feel, the sounds, amazing. I look forward to future updates.
Might I suggest that when you bring out the heat rays, the indicators start out as empty and fill up in sync with the wind-up sound for the Heat Ray.
Man this game looks and sounds soooooo cool! Loved the probe part like man it's gonna be fun scaring the hell outta ppl🤣 Massive fan of Spielberg's War of the Worlds and wish y'all devs nothing but the best in your continued design of this.
Positively outstanding! Keep up the great work!
Suggestion: The probe should return to the tripod by retracting along the path of the tendril instead of having to manually steer it out it would make for a pretty cool effect, but idk how hard that would be to implement
Nothing else to say but amazing work, this game has got me hooked
Should be easy, press retract button (hold down for complete retraction).
Immaculate improvements here!! Each update makes me so excited to see how much further your progress grows and this is a HUGE step!
Please, PLEASE *don't* rush this! It is art, and art takes time. You have my full support and can't wait so see more of this, so thank you for keeping your audience in the loop!
The fact this is pre-alpha footage is already incredibly impressive! The only thing of note I would potentially add as a quality of life thing would be to maybe add a thin red outline on humans in the tripod’s line of sight, since they do seem a little hard to see. Everything shown here is super cool though, I hope to be able to play it someday
The effects of the shield getting hit directly in the line of sight is awesome
There should be a "yell" or "call" mechanic for the humans to find others and also if you are in a cage of a stealth mode tripod you can warn others walking by it.
Maybe you could have upgrade or unlocked ability in the first two or three levels that lets you listen in on human comms.
It'll be useful to avoid human military concentrations and target vulnerable refugee sites and convoys.
WELL DONE! Love it. Got me super hyper again. Always happy to see the work with the probe, you nailed that! 👏👏👏
Thanks bro!!
I feel like I’ve seen you before….
This is the first video I have seen about this game and I'm glad no one has forgotten about War of Worlds movie and I can't wait for this game to be officially released!
at first the graphics turned me off a bit but the moment i saw night mode i was sold, it all grew on me after that, i would love this, please please keep working on this!!!
This looks so cool! Keep up the good work Raf, and the team of course!
Oh and just to clarify 17:35 is my painting 😊
so nice ^^
@@RandomAsianBoy Thanks! 😊
Out of all of those artworks that one actually really blew me away (ofc the others are really good) but it's like you could feel the dread just by looking at it...10/10 bro keep going I would love to see more!
@@rexlityyxd9719 Really?! Thanks, man! Much appreciated. 🤩
AMAZING
The sound design is also incredibly notable. That's really cool.
I cannot wait to start playing this game!! It's such a good idea!
This game looks fantastic. The scale is really cool, and the probing elements were totally unexpected! Looks incredible dude, respect!
Honestly a bloody amazing game and I cannot wait to see it come out dude! The amount of work you put into this game is unbelievable, so trust me, when this game comes out, I will get it!
bro even if the game cost 100$ i will get it too x'D
I cannot wait for this. Huge fan of War of the Worlds.
I can’t wait to hear the LFE portion of the soundtrack on my pair of Monolith M15’s and pair of Perlisten D15s’s. If this ends up being an Atmos game hopefully the devs don’t lock the native output to the current common standard of 7.2.4 and go either 9.2.4 or 7.2.6. Having dynamic objects overhead with 3 pairs of on ceiling speakers would be fitting for a title like this. Equally a bed layer with front wides could help create an exponentially larger soundstage as well as acoustically enforce the perception of just how enormous the tripods are
As someone who has been watching this game from the beginning I really gotta say how amazing the progress has been, and I really have to congratulate Raf and his team on how far they've come to get to this point and pushing through everything because I bet this isn't easy and is probably very time consuming.
The firefight at night with these things was the coolest thing ever just hundreds of men trying to take one of those down was wild
I hope we can play as the military
That Movie As Popular As It Was. Will Still Never Get Credit For How Great It Was
And the fact the tripods don't even need to use the heat rays to destroy tanks they can just toss them like toys with their clutch of probes, we'd be in a pretty tough spot if an event like this occurred.
@@TheIndoGoddon't capitalize every word it isn't a title
@@Clown_the_ClownDon't not capitalize every word. It is proper English.
bro, being the tripod looks so freaking cool, can’t wait to play this when I get back from my cousins house
Ever since I saw this movie it was easily on my top 5 movies of all time, and now I see A GAME?!?! This looks amazing, the design is just like the movie and the siren 1:53 is just like the one from the movie too! Super stoked!
the sound design is crazy. the tripod coming from underground to the weapons charging was just top tier.
