In these clips you can see, hear and feel the atmosphere. There is clearly plenty left to do such as add more dynamic and static destruction to the environment, place abandoned vehicles, improve the AI, and expand on the game's core mechanics.
War of The Worlds is an indie game I've been developing for a little under a year based off the 2005 Steven Spielberg motion picture. It's a hardcore horror open world survival game which throws the player into the middle of the extermination of mankind with the sole purpose of surviving long enough to find a way to bring down the alien machines. Loot buildings, fight off hostile survivors, stay hidden from the machines, and stay alive. Explore the landscape with a wide variety of different environments and buildings with different resources to scavenge. How long will you survive?

already ready done , cant wait to play and i have followed war of the worlds game on twitch
Yo
I have a suggestion. Give one more phase to the gameplay: first encounter. Players would be thown in one of several different scenarios where players are going about their business and then the machines first emerge out of nowhere and start killing or picking up everyone in their way, and this would be the hardest one with more specific ways of going through it. First encounter in an suburban environment; first encounter while in an office building in the city; first encounter in a farm etc. Maybe not now but in future stages of development
You should realese it on the day thr movie came out
@@asggerpatton7169 I feel like there will be a phase where the aliens get sick and their shields are shut down cuz the game gives you guns foreshadowing that you may fight the machines when earthling microbes shut down their shields

Yes 100% agree. I honestly had a sense of complete powerlessness. As if it was actually happening to me. Great work.

@@Lucky-sh1dm Let's hope that doesn't happen again lol
Dude... The way they search around is so crazy realistic, and that part at 4:50 when it lowered down and almost spots you... Chills, man.
My heart dropped when I saw that...I cannot wait for this game!
I don't think it almost spotted him. From what I've seen they randomly start to "harvest" buildings. I think its a mechanic to prevent camping in the same building.
@@BavarianHobbit True. It didn't see him. I do wonder about the actual threat here. I haven't really seen the tripods spot the player and go for him. The fear is palpable so long as they CAN spot you, WILL spot you and lasor the shit out of you even when you flee indoors. I hope that elements is fleshed out too.
I've posted paragraphs of suggestions on their other videos, but I think they need ground units like in the movies, and way more survival n hiding mechanics. Also, unique classes of aliens and humans with many special abilities would enhance the strategy of the game.
A near detail I noticed. The tripod design has an unintended feature where when it rounds a corner, the side lights appear first. This both gives the player a chance to notice and avoid the Tripod, but also has the effect of scaring the crap out of the player.

The design of the tripods of War of the Worlds(2005) was severely underrated. Those designs were phenomenal. From afar, it looks like an organic lifeform, perhaps a mixture of a crustacean like head with three squid like tentacles but up close, you'll see that it's actually a machine made of metal. It stares at you with its three haunting eyes. It screams with a loud horn, calling others of its kind to join and the gears moan as it walks nearer and you just hope that the moans fade away cause it's the only way for you to know that the tripod is leaving. Otherwise it's tentacles will search all of the crevices until it finally sees you and then snatches you up.
The tripods appear to rely on a form of locomotion indicative of arachnid biomechanics.
The biggest thing I hope to see is this: When those things spot you, they need to turn on a huge spotlight that follows you and makes it hard to see the robot. If your in a building, they can use it to slowly scan the interior. That would be amazing for atmosphere, make it feel like they’re hunting you down.
This is really impressive. It's clear you have a pretty solid understanding of how the tripods are supposed to move. I can tell you're working really hard to get them right so I would like to offer some input as a longtime fan.
My only nitpick is in the film, the beam emitters don't really move much when they're firing, so the way they whobble a bit in that first sequence is a little out of character. The way they attack in the films makes it look like it isn't even an effort for them. I believe in the final movie model, the beam arms themselves are a bit shorter too. I really love how you've given them the ability to retract/extend their tentacles though.
It's also important to remember that the head almost "glides" through the air when they move because of how smooth their leg movement is. It might wave slightly from side to side, but not up and down unless they're exerting effort to climb an incline.
I'm hoping you will be able to add more behaviors for the tripods, such as their soil uprooting and blood spraying (hopefully you can integrate sounds from when they're seen spraying in the film). One of the things that makes Spielberg tripods so frightening is the way they can interact with their environment down to a really granular level, so capturing that in the game will be really important.
You don't want to feel safe because you're small and might go unnoticed; they're incredibly alert and will search for you. I would love to see hunting behavior such as probes, moving objects around, flipping cars, digging through building ruins, etc. They really need to come off as intelligent, almost alive.
Definitely like the idea of them actively searching through rubble and such like that. There's just so much potential with this game to actually explore the things that we never got to see in the Steven Spielberg movie. Potentially even what the interior of the tripod may look like. There was only one clip of concept art for the film but we might be able to get answers to questions that we've had about these Martians.
@@MoraleParanormal It's really important to capture the intelligence of the tripods. In a lot of these clips you feel like you're safe because you're so small they don't notice you, but in the films they're incredibly alert. A group of them even all shut off their "engines" when they heard noise in the basement. They're incredibly intelligent. They're like creatures themselves. They've got to be able to do a lot more than just walk and shoot.
Yes!
I hope they take your input into consideration

Interesting the idea of creating a game like this. It would be really cool if random events were happening over the days, such as aircraft crashes, explosions, etc. It would also be interesting for the terrain to deteriorate as the days went by, with those red roots spreading more and more. They could copy the idea of crafting system and items from the game Project Zomboid, this game is excellent in that regard. Another thing that could also be added to the game would be a system of barricades and curtains on windows and doors, this would be really cool to create hidden bases and not draw the attention of tripods while you craft your items and do other things.

i love war of the worlds (2005) so much! it’s the perfect amount of scary for me. i love survival movies / games. i watched it when i was 5 i think? i got really scared since that day, almost 15 years later and i’m still terrified of the movie 😭
I've just noticed 4 weird things on the AI designing, terrain collision, model texturing, and the head movement. This is a little thing that I just simply want to point out:
1. The tripod designs aren't that very smooth, they seem to have a weird pixel like design to the models. So i really suggest that maybe, you should try to improve and try to make the designs a little bit smoother. Because i actually think that'll help you alot in the near future.
2. The AI movement and they're collision with the terrain are seemingly almost as if their sliding across the whole ground. This also is something that needs to receive a bit of an improvement, because if it stays the exact same, then each of the very movements won't look that great at all, that's also something I just needed to point out.
3. The heads of the tripods are solid statues, they don't have head bobbing or don't move at all, and are just completely frozen like solid stone, it's even almost as if they're not animated alot more. What needs to he pointed out is that their heads need to be given a lot more life to them. Try to fix that small issue by rigging the models head, i think that'd be a little fine with me and would even help you improve so much.
4. The models don't have that much texture or any kind of metal texture or material put into them, and you can't make a proper war machine model without adding some mechanical texture to the models. Adding robotic and placing in some metal texture will make the designs a little more scary with a bit more realistic and polish feel to them, this could really help FlipSwitch with the rest of the game, and adding any texture could really use some bit of work.
Those are all of the four things that i needed to point out. These four small things are something that simply need to be fixed sometime in the future. I'm not correcting anyone here, nor am i implying gigantic criticism to the devs, what i am simply doing is just pointing out some small issues to FlipSwitch that all need to be redone and that everything i pointed out to you has to be fixed and improved on just a little bit more. Thanks!
Yes, these are good things to do. Though this is like an Alpha version of the game, no doubt needs more polishing and I agree with these. Their AI is only bare bones right now and they did mention it needs improving and polishing.
The legs are amazing, though the timing for the movement as to avoid "sliding" is a must for realism purposes. Their heads, yeah they seem to be somewhat "Stiff" and should at least have subtle movements, understandably the heads don't move that much, but still should have a slight sway of some sort, even if subtle.
Better collisions and destruction physics would also be a nice touch. As to make the scene more alive as the stuff gets destroyed and also adds to the intimidation factor.
The heads in the original movie didn't really move. Id did but was hard to tell. But yea I can see it being more lively when the heads bob just a little more
Go make your own game :)
@3D Modeller Not at all. But the things pointed out here are nitpicky and jumping the gun on what is essentially a pre alpha when models are not even fully complete.
You have to remember, this is work being done by a small studio. Sometimes even one person can make this happen with Unreal Engine or Unity if they have the time, skill and dedication.
There's only so much an indie studio can do to polish things up to the AAA standard you've come to expect from your games.

It became famous after it was adapted as a radio play in the 30s. The radio play was written as though it was a real event that was actually taking place. It had fictional "news broadcasts" and interviews with scientists and survivors to make it sound like the alien invasion was really happening. Some listeners tuned into the broadcast late and missed the disclaimer at the start that this was a work of fiction. Some people thought they were hearing a real news broadcast and aliens had really invaded Earth. I think the tripod walk animation needs a bit more work, but other than that- i'm utterly thrilled for this ! i also love the idea of there being a multiplayer option, like Ozark said, brilliant idea
I agree it should have a look like when you see it you can tell that the tripod is bopping as it moves around and more grip to the ground plus the legs of the machine need to be more animated because they look stiff
Fantastic work. This is literally all my childhood nightmares condensed into a survival game.
Looks great so far! Just wishlisted it. Cannot wait.
At 3:12 and 3:19, I am impressed to hear a perfect sound effect of the A-10 warthog firing off it's Gau-8 cannon, and then the jet engine scream as it flies by! Plus many other sound effects which are pretty so, like the tripods sounds.
Its stolen from another game
3:09 and 3:11 gave me the chills
Regardless if the project goes ahead and releases or not (hopefully it does, I'd love to play this) you should absolutely be proud of yourself. You've created an atmospheric, terrifying glimpse into a Martian invasion that stands alongside the original movie - and with much less of a team and budget.
This is a masterpiece, and I'm so excited to see where it goes. Best of luck with your project.
This is a really amazing project!
This has a '7 days to die' feel, with War of the Worlds tripods and aliens instead of Zombies, which is exactly what it should be as it works perfectly for such an idea. Seriously great work, open world with multi player option would be a great thing (similar to 7 days to die) that way you can work together to stay alive, Which could be an advantage and a problem as more people means more chances to be caught. Keep up the great work this looks Epic!
0:40 Well, you are already 90 steps ahead of everyone else!
This is incredible. Keep this up, I’ve always wanted a game like this to be made. Hopefully it will come true! And the survival aspect of it is a bonus!
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS GAME IT LOOKS SO GOOD AND I LOVE WAR OF THE WORLDS ITSELF. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!
2:08 finaly my new alarm
It will be one of the best games in the history of mankind.
Dude, you're doing a great job!
I saw alot of good critiques from multiple comments so I hope you take those into consideration.
Other than that, this is what I've been waiting for!
I watched the whole video bro. I have to say, good freaking job. So far you've got a pretty good game set out and it looks like you got the basic parts of the game already finished. I look forward to seeing how your game turns out in the future.
