@@InsanoRider777 the problem is that even when you get rid of the apostiles he can still get them back easily either through his commander or other means. You basically need to have like 3 graveyard hatepieces in the 3 decks palying against it to stop that nonsense.
@@WambwneD my friend built this deck exactly from this episode, and it’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen.. after 2 plays against it I told him I’ll never play that deck again.
I'm new to commander and this method of showing a game in progress is incredibly helpful. Having the beginner-friendly commentary, the constant pauses and close ups of cards allow me to actually follow the game. Very well done, thank you to everyone involved in making this
You guys didn’t forget about the fans that have been yearning for EXACTLY this. Thank you guys! Josh, that combo was nasty. How consistent is it? I’m glad I got to see the decks work.
Very. You just get Razaketh and edgewalker every time and nobody's got anything on you. People HAVE TO pay life to disrupt the flow when the first batch of apostles get sacrificed (which Jimmy badly misplayed I think) The combo's weak spot is also instant speed graveyard hate (to exile the apostles when they hit the yard), or static hate effects like Leyline of the Void.
I'm 23 minutes in and just realiced that Jimmy is wearing a VGHS T-Shirt. I loved that show and discovered this channel completly unrelated to the show. Took me a while too to realice that it's the same guy xD Nice nod there, Jimmy ; )
I played last night/this morning in a crazy series of games. There were a couple moments where everyone held their breath, and then laughed like crazy at the stupidity of the boardstate/stack! Commander is great.
Had exactly this happen today in our 5-hour Commander night tonight. We were only 3 players this time, so I wasn't sure if it would be as fun as usual (we are usually 4-5 in our group) - but it was actually close with tons of great moments and 3 super close, epic struggles. Even the game with 2x Muldrotha and me on Karametra getting locked out by Mist of Stagnation turned out fun once I actually managed to remove it for good and "go off".
I think this is pretty much my favourite commander game on gameknights . It has both prof and wedge, whom are so funny when paired together and I always love watching games where the players make the experience enjoyable for both player and watcher, through both awesome plays and hilarious moments of mayhem/shenanigans (lords of chaos and prof’s reaction)
Just backed the Last Stand playmat. It really looks sweet. Will definitely look amazing next to my Aftermath playmat that I got from you guys last year. Can't wait to play find it when the mat comes in.
Watching this over 2 years later... I miss the banter. Josh, Jimmy and crew have gotten miles ahead of this in terms of production, but I feel like it lost a little something on the way. This sounds like one of the games around my table, just hanging with friends, casual, like the format should be. The cutaways where we hear the other players laugh are awesome.... I don't know, maybe it's just nostalgia, but I would definitely sacrifice some of the new beautiful production for a little more of this casual, whimsical feeling.
It's definitely the nostalgia syndrom, it happens to me a lot for shows I followed for years, but then I realize it's baseless criticism because the quality of animations, the dynamism and the overall understanding of the game for newer players are through the roof now, and I cannot complain, and if you really feel that it is too much, even though I think you're then a bit ungrateful, there is still extra turns, and I know there are a lot of people complaining about the new format of game knights but weirdly enough, extra turns are yet getting way less views when it's truely the purest form of friend commander with no glitters what so ever

It wasn't just a matter of being nice, but of keeping Jimmy's life high enough so that he could at least stop some Apostles from going back to Josh's hand. The Professor attacking Jimmy just to get the most out of his Sword of War and Peace didn't help either.
God Jimmy was right that deck Josh was playing is sooooo cool. I'm trying to put together a decklist now from the video and just make it a long-term pet project >.> EDIT: The decklist is in the description and I'm mad excited

Wow, this has to be one of my favourites episodes of Game Knights! Everything, the guests (Prof you were extremely elegant), the laughs, the decks! That truly inspire me to build an Athreos Shadowborn Apostles deck, it seems to be a bunch of fun! PS: I know it’s quite late, but I’m able to answer Prof question at 11:53: it’s an application of the binomial distribution. The aleatory trial « Ruhan smashing someone’s face » is repeated two times, and Prof has a chance of nearly 33% of being hit each one. So we can use the formula, which I unfortunately can’t write here because of my little keyboard that don’t have mathematics symbols. Anyway, the odds of being hit two times are 0,1111…, so there is a little more than 11% what happened happens, but I’m pretty sure a true man of science (or English, but it’s really closely related) could do this in the blink of an eye! Second PS: My English isn’t very good, I hope that my maths vocabulary is understandable Greetings from France!
Your probability isn't the whole picture though. The chance of Prof getting his twice is .33^2, which is actually just *under* 11%. However, each swing of Ruhan is independent of the previous swings. So once Prof has already been hit once, his chances of being hit the second time are 33%, same as the first time.
5:40 Jimmy: "I really like my hand" And it went all downhill from there... :/ The saddest thing is that, if Jimmy had cast Living Death during his turn, he would've gotten the treasures, which would've allowed him to actually play the game.
Deck wrecks when no one is playing graveyard hate like Leyline of the Void, Bojuka Bog, Mass exile, etc. Honestly having some form of graveyard hate is a must in commander, as grave recursion is insane with some decks.
If you guys find a high res image of the last stand you can get a mat from inked gaming so it really isn't the last chance for the playmat to be in the hands of fans
Haha. Nice catch. Haven't noticed that one. That would've been pretty funny. He'd only lose 10 life from tutoring Chaos Warp and be at 7 before casting Teferi's Protection though, so the outcome of the game wouldn't change.

It’s cool to check this out from the future and appreciate just how much the team’s production quality has improved over the years. The audio, editing, and set design have all come so far!
Still super fun to watch these now though!
I’d love it if we could get homebrew commander games like this more often, they’re by far my favorite vids you guys post
Aren't literally all of the decks they play homebrews?
John McCormick I mean decks that they have that arent gimmick ones, like all using c17 commanders or commanders from a new set etc.
You're saving my whole week guys. I'm always waiting for new episode.
LOVE
YOUR
CHANNEL
That was the filthiest combo I think I've ever seen.
I think it only really worked because the only player able to get answers was Wedge. Neither Jimmy nor Prof were able to contribute to fending off Josh's board and God knows how many potential answers Prof threw away with Scry.
@@aaronmitchell9273 like it didn't work or it did?
The fact that Jimmy refused to pay 3 life to put one apostle in his graveyard when he was saccing them for demons was a huge misplay.
People HAVE TO pay life to disrupt the flow when the first batch of apostles get sacrificed (which Jimmy badly misplayed I think)
The combo's weak spot is also instant speed graveyard hate (to exile the apostles when they hit the yard), or static hate effects like Leyline of the Void.
"I'm a man of science!"...proceeds to play Thassa, god of the Sea and pray that she can block when she's just an enchantment. :p
Congrats JLK, you probably singlehandedly doubled the price of Shadowborn Apostle :p
Dylan Bramer I bought the entire decklist 5 hours after watching the video so if it goes up I'm ok :D
yeah, anywhere from $3.50 - $5/ea now.
The French Press Test I got mine for 2.09
HE DID IM SO ANGRY I NEED SIX MORE AND I HAVE NO MONEY
Think they are back down to $2 now...could be wrong
One of the best "Game Knights" episodes of all time. Inspired me to build my own Athreos deck. Thank you JLK for the amazing game!
Called it, I knew Prof couldn't resist playing sygg. Keep up the great work guys!
Fluffy Derg he loves low mana cost commanders with cheeky effects
We know how much he loves Merfolk!
Fluffy Derg I remember he made a Sygg video.
I literally just watched that video
Game Hero He's made 2 around sygg decks and heavily talked about it in 2 more.
I'm 23 minutes in and just realiced that Jimmy is wearing a VGHS T-Shirt. I loved that show and discovered this channel completly unrelated to the show. Took me a while too to realice that it's the same guy xD
Nice nod there, Jimmy ; )
Same! as soon as I saw that shirt I pictured him with a sailors hat and plastic bubble pipe, can't believe I didn't notice before...
I felt Jimmy's disgust from here.
The MNZ yeah getting mana screwed in edh sucks. The silver lining is usually people won't target you as much but voltron decks are heartless lol.
Jimmy always gets mana screwed.
Yeah, I would have conceded, but he stuck it out.
Blood Artist to Wedge after Teferi's Protection: "Omae wa mou shindeiru"
"Nani!!?!"
*Dies*
Prof, Wedge is, in fact, wearing his glasses.
Jimmy: The route we’re taking today is -
Professor: Your destruction.
Prof hexed jimmy. He stopped drawing lands after that.
That snapping of the cards is so satisfying to hear
Omg yes lol
I think this is pretty much my favourite commander game on gameknights . It has both prof and wedge, whom are so funny when paired together and I always love watching games where the players make the experience enjoyable for both player and watcher, through both awesome plays and hilarious moments of mayhem/shenanigans (lords of chaos and prof’s reaction)
Just backed the Last Stand playmat. It really looks sweet. Will definitely look amazing next to my Aftermath playmat that I got from you guys last year. Can't wait to play find it when the mat comes in.
Watching this now for a second time, I have to say I love jimmy's early enthusiasm...if only he knew....
@@alexrecuenco Yeah, you're not 7, so stop wining about production value like an old entitled child, if you feel that animations and fluidity are ment to infantilize you, you probably have an ego problem, like a lot of mtg players these days apparently...
@@lasterman94100 I definitely don't feel ungrateful, I love all of their content and appreciate the time and effort in creating it! Plus, I'm sure they are fairly remunerated, so I think a friendly opinion isn't out of order. Just chatting.
@bret4880 bret4880 I am responding to the one who just responded yesterday to my own comment, saying that he doesn't need all the animations because he's not 7
@@phobosrising9849 I know dude, I already responded to you a long time ago, I am responding to another guy who just commented, but was way more arrogant in his response, I have no problem what so ever with your original post
Wedge could've made a deal to not attack jimmy at one point, after all he could remove his commander from combat at any time.
xOldSkoolHollywooDx I think there was a point Jimmy was worth more alive than dead to wedge, removing his commander from combat would've given one more turn for Jimmy which could've been critical to deal with Josh.
I'm trying to put together a decklist now from the video and just make it a long-term pet project >.>
EDIT: The decklist is in the description and I'm mad excited
I already made it
It’s been a year. How did it turn out?
@@Society.gave.me.anxiety I didn't wind up doing it. I looked into it some more, and learned that that deck is a thing multiple people play, and people who run it were saying it only ever has one line of play. Each game just goes the same way, and I'm not really into that
Prof: "Let's do war" ....then passes turn.....bold move
commander is such a good format! "Fun and interactive"
Professor is by far the best guest on the show
Andrew Schmidt professor is best mtg waifu
It's guest power is over 9000
Wedge me likey
We need an ongoing counter for how much damage Jimmy has taken from Ancient Tomb in all of game knights lol.
Razaketh is definitely an "exile asap" target everytime
Yep, Wedge not exiling it immediately and instead going for Prof's sword was basically what made Josh win the game
Josh's take on Athreos is amazing. I give mad props to him for that idea.
I had no idea Athreos was so friggin broken. Three guesses which deck I’m building next
Barktooth Warbeard right? Or was it Jedit Ojanen or Kasimir the Lone Wolf
Saint Deyma
johan?
Rasputin?
vorosh?
the Church of Atheros welcomes you!
daughter of autumn
Narset?
I have always had a firm belief that it is bad luck to be superstitious.
Oof
Oh god I found this comment again and it's till just as good.
I mean Wedge gave the game to Josh the moment he didn't throw a swords to plowshares to razaketh while the first apostle was in the stack, he had the mana and instead did something irrelevant with the sunforger. There is not returning from that kind of mistakes.
Yep, that really sealed the game. It's a shame really, it ended up being not all that interesting and too one-sided because of it
I noticed this to, and it really really left a bad taste in my mouth.
I don't understand why Jimmy didn't just pay 3 life to return five apostles instead of six to Josh' hand!
Cuz they're all casual and bad but that's okay
I haven't played MTG since freshman year college. That was 11 years ago, didn't even know that today I'd be buying my fist cube deck to teach my friends and family Magic.
Thank you guy for the nostalgia.
The Professor intro had me clapping. GOALS
Wedge looks like Kirby with that shirt on 😂😂
lmfaooo
Poyo!
I’ve watched this like 4 times already, 2021 still watching it. I miss having prof on GK
Why isn't he anymore. And why did mana source ( wedge )stop making vids
@@MF-Productions No idea bro, but you can see prof playing commander at I Hate Your Deck channel. I miss Wedge so much also, I think he stopped making videos because he got tired of the internet drama, some guy from another MTG channel wouldn't stop making mean comments and throwing hate at Wedge. It's so sad, The Mana Source was also one of my fav channels to watch.
That play Josh made with the apostles turning the board into a zombie apocalypse was so cool and hilarious when the one guy didn't want any part of it n phased out
Jimmy, I love the VGHS shirt. Loved the show as well.
I remember being really excited every time a new episode of VGHS would come out, years ago haha
These are incredibly well done...I can actually follow it even though I'm new. Thank you!
I've watched this a couple of times and just watched it again, and, man, this was an amazing game to watch. Kudos!
if i has a shadowborn apostle for every time wedge said “this is really disgusting”, i would have a griselbrand
Just a normal day... then suddenly Josh swoops in with 70 shadow born Apostle
Me: INCOMING!
I read *Hebrew Commander*
Damn antisemitic EDH decks and their goddamn removals and graveyard-hatred, but the promised commander people of Our Lord and dominarian Savior Richard Garfield will not be extinguished!
We will take the promised land! DEUS VULTRON!
Had to reread it a few times xD
Hebrew Commander doesn´t stand a chance against Opressive Rays and Honor of the pure though
thenewgoddamngambit what do you mean by saying i read hebrew commander?
the guy read Hebrew instead of Homebrew in the video title
2:28 for Game Knights
My hero
Zane Gooding really? People time code Game Knights too?
The real M.V.P.
I'm not going to buy anything so why waste my time? They don't get revenue from people watching it.
It's not wasted time because I want to do it. I don't want to watch their ads. You're not going to change my opinion, so why bother? You don't even get anything from it.
This has been my favorite game night. I have been binge watching all weekend!
9:11 I really like watching these as a newcomer to Magic. Sounds like you guys are genuinely having fun :)
Fantastic show. Love the editing. This is actually more interesting than the Pro Tour coverage due to the way that it's filmed and edited. -mM
Did you put a signature on a UA-cam comment?
@@senoreverything6366 huzzah! A man of quality!
I love how Prof always looks hungover.
Uhm, Prof. says there's no Lords of Chaos, yet no one is commenting on that straight 1, 2, 3, 4?
Lords of order ftw
The probability of having a string of four die rolls that are consecutive (e.g 1, 2, 3, 4) is around 0.231%.
Second PS: My English isn’t very good, I hope that my maths vocabulary is understandable
Greetings from France!
Your probability isn't the whole picture though. The chance of Prof getting his twice is .33^2, which is actually just *under* 11%. However, each swing of Ruhan is independent of the previous swings. So once Prof has already been hit once, his chances of being hit the second time are 33%, same as the first time.
@@timothye.2902 It’s because you round 1/3 to 0,33: if you try with 0,33333, you alrdeady get a number above 11%😁

Jimmy: "I really like my hand"
And it went all downhill from there... :/
The saddest thing is that, if Jimmy had cast Living Death during his turn, he would've gotten the treasures, which would've allowed him to actually play the game.
My goal is to be knighted as a Game Knight one day! I'll bring a thunderous beatdown with my boi Sek'Kuar 😎
Sek'Kuar Deathkeeper is a great card, man! I've made a decent and enjoyable deck with it as a commander before.
Deck Builder’s Society Sek'Kaur? Boi it's about that Mizzix life
Oh I like that commander! May you be knighted as a Game Knight some day!
Lilly Lewis Much respect to the Mizzix but nothing compares to the brutality of Jund 😎
Ah good old Mizzix! Mizzix is a fun commander! I agree though on Jund. Jund is my favorite three color combo!
5:23 im loving Prof's command of the game. XD
I just built josh’s deck and i have not lost a game since i built it 2 weeks ago. ITS CRAZY GOOD!
Deck wrecks when no one is playing graveyard hate like Leyline of the Void, Bojuka Bog, Mass exile, etc. Honestly having some form of graveyard hate is a must in commander, as grave recursion is insane with some decks.
Send me the list of cards on the deck please
The list is in the description of the video
Ok thnx
Is there ever a game where Jimmy doesn't get mana boned or dies to the one land he seems to always have?
Rivals of Ixalan. Check that one Jimmy wins.
This is SO freaking good.
If you guys find a high res image of the last stand you can get a mat from inked gaming so it really isn't the last chance for the playmat to be in the hands of fans
Of course Prof plays Merfolk.
Wait, shouldn't Ob Nixilus, Unshackled have killed Wedge when he searched cards with Sunforger?
Yeap, so he actually got last place :P
Haha. Nice catch. Haven't noticed that one. That would've been pretty funny. He'd only lose 10 life from tutoring Chaos Warp and be at 7 before casting Teferi's Protection though, so the outcome of the game wouldn't change.
Yeah, but he was at 9 when it resolved, so, he would've been dead before the others. Not that it matters much. Just makes the "at least got 2nd place'' boast a "hah, in your face" moment xD
Ah, Yes. Actually, I see it now. You were right all along!
"Only one may stand?" -Prof
I'm new to magic and you guys and tolarian tutor have taught me so much in such a short period of time. Keep doing what you love guys, I really appreciate you
Please saffron!!!
It would be great to see them ask Sean and Andy from Commander's Brew. Maybe 2HGEDH with partners from BBD? Hmm?
SAFFRON! SAFFRON!
2HGEDH is fun to say. twohgeddhhh!
The moment Josh played his Apostle in my head he's automatically my target to get rid off ASAP. Wish I can battle against him.
Yeah, usually if you have a regular group you play with, you'll also learn what decks to go after first. (Unless your group actually settles down onto playing decks around the same power level! But there's always those people who play way too powerfully for their group >.>)
Yes! Game Knights! Thank you for making this guys! You guys rock!
Oh wow! I knew about VRV, but I didn't know you could do all that! That's awesome! Also I love My Hero Academia!
I love this episode! I keep coming back to it again and again. I hope Prof. And Wedge come back again for more GK.!
