I live in England, in a city where girls don’t really play card/board games so I always thought it was shameful and embarrassing to collect cards. But this channel helped me realise that it’s okay to be different when it comes to hobbies and gaming! Amazing channel, love watching you guys. Also, because you explain everything you’re doing, it makes the idea of playing a lot less intimidating and scary 👌🏻🤙🏻🐺
"I'm the aggro deck." -Josh playing the Mardu Knights deck. LUL, nah, that's Alela. Proven by the Brawl event on MTG Arena. The knights deck ended up being more mid-range. Though Alela hilariously overpowered the other decks in a 1v1, it'll struggle to effect the game as much as it did in a 4 player game. Nice to see how these decks function in an environment they were designed for.
It's cool to see your perspective, as I used Chulaine and locked people out with Frilled Mystic. A few friends and I thought that deck was overpowered. Might be fun to recreate this Game Knight at home.
I played Korvold alot during the MTGA event, and I honestly had a hard time taking even one victory from Alela. Alela has so many mana/card generators, along with costing less to play, AND being basically a better Vampire Nighthawk, that Korvold could rarely even attack once, which is a bit of a pity for a Commander that quickly hits the 15/15 mark. And when Sephara hits the field, it's gg. Chulane could lock her out if you had the right combo, but even then Alela could often just break the combo somehow and swarm out. On a similar note, anyone have an idea when the full Brawl format is going to hit MTGA? I enjoy singleton formats a lot and I'm getting seriously bored of playing against one of two annoying decks repeatedly (Monored Cavalcade of Cancer and WB lifegain) in Standard play. I literally haven't played against any other deck in over 10 games.
He reminds me of a Sith Lord with how he manipulates the board, always playing the thoughtful player but with a hidden agenda of actually winning the game.
Man I just want a home brew episode of really any format more than just so many precon videos. Edit - also I hate it when they all overreact to the power level of a precon card just appease wizards. (ie. some trash cards hits the table, Everyone: Whooooooah, what a strong card)
To be devils advocate, i REALLY enjoy that you guys play unedited precons on game knights. The chances are if the commander is good we will see it later in upgraded form, and also this is a way to show off the contents and uses/playpatterns of the decks. Its not very often we get commander precon decks so having a place to see them in action is very appreciated
I had the same experience with Knights brawl deck as Josh did, it's just terrible, so very A+B and regretfully super cluncky because of it - I constantly found myself creature-screwd and usless equipment-flooded! The Fairy deck was just the opposite, such an elegant and smooth-running engine, a true joy to pilot!
The fairy deck and knight decks have too many themes that they want to do but the fairy one is so much better at it imo. Like Syr Gwyn should probably be built voltron but to really make use of that triggered attack you want to be knight tribal??? However, if like she had whenever you cast an equipment you create a knight token and her last ability only worked on non-token knights then at least you have targets for all that equipment you are running. It's defo a cool card design but just kinda clunky.
Thanks everyone for making this such an enjoyable presentation! It's great seeing you all having fun while showcasing the subtle nuances of combat mechanics and giving us insight into your strategies.
This was the better play thru of these decks Ive seen. I loved seeing how each one has its own killer combos and techniques. And seeing the decks played thru makes me want them more.
Every time I watch any video with Reid, I am just struck by how extraordinary humble this man who might be the greatest player on the planet. He just seems so happy to be here and I love that kind of positivity in my magic content.
Thank you for bringing melissa back as a guest! Shes by far my favorite one youve had! Reid was a great guest on the show also!! Really amazing game you guys! Keep it up!!
I might be the minority here but i really don't care what format they're playing. It's the interaction between the players and the production quality what differs game knights fron other random edh gameplayvideos imo. Love the show. Keep going!
rewatching this for the first time since it came out, and gosh this episode is a treat! PLEASE bring Reid back if he's interested, he was super entertaining and played amazingly well!
I just got into MTG last week! I even did a video on why people should be getting magic in 2020. I can't wait to be a part of the community and play some commander games.
love the show, don't love the precons :(. homebrew next time? (edit) bring back Reid and let him bring his own deck, I'd love to see how he builds. besides that, it was kinda frustrating to watch Josh flounder for most of the episode. wouldn't have happened with a better built deck...
So I'm going to be echoing some of the same complaints from other people, but I want to start with what I really enjoyed about this episode. Melissa and Reid were two fantastic guests to have on the show, and I enjoy watching your banter as always. There's clearly a ton of effort put into making these episodes look great and heighten entertainment value, and I greatly appreciate that as a viewer. Game Knights has been consistently fun to watch for me, hence why I watched this entire episode. The only disappointing aspect of the episode for me was what a number of others have already said; the fact that you all played the Brawl precons instead of building EDH decks around them, or even just making a few small upgrades of your own. I want to be clear that this disappointment has nothing to do with my feelings of Brawl as a format, though I will admit I've never been it's biggest fan. It doesn't even have anything to do with the quality of the precons, because I think Melissa and WOTC did a great job building them and filling them with some fun new cards. It just feels like the show has primarily become an advertisement for new MTG products, with EDH being a lesser purpose that isn't even always a part of the episodes. If this is what needs to be done for the show to keep going, I'm not going try to blame y'all for that. I literally enjoy everything else about the episodes. Just my two cents.
Interacting with your comment to hopefully attract more attention. I have similar feelings, I kept thinking they had made edh decks as well. If these sorts of ads are necessary, so be it, but to see how these two guests wpuld have brewed would have been fantastic
I get how much work they do on the podcast and episodes and I’m truly grateful but is it really hard to upload an extra turns at least once a month like they planned? Like come on, I honestly feel like one episode of extra turns a week would even be doable. It’s playing a card game, not a festival grade short film.
I find it mostly disappointing when they invite pro players to play precons. These are some of the best players in the world not just because of the skill in how they play, but also in how they BUILD their decks. Not letting us hear their deck building mentality is a real shame. Honestly just a waste
I was really excited to see Reid play but much less excited to hear it's a precon deck I'm fine with you guys playing brawl, and I'm fine with you guys promoting the new Commanders from the new set, but please build new decks around those commanders, not these precons
I mean, it'd be a bit rude to have Melissa on and be like "Here, take this deck that you built and throw out all the cards in it because our viewers don't like this precon crap. Oh and don't worry, we'll be doing the same thing so you may as well go ahead and just quit your job cos nobody wants to see your stupid decks." I personally don't see what the problem is when you have precon decks designed this well. Melissa did a great job and Reid certainly seemed to be enjoying himself as much as I did.
I see a lot of negative comments on this video and there are a couple of things I would like to address. First of, just a small reminder that their first "tie-in to the most recent set" legends game was episode 4 of GameKnight. And the Archennemy Bolas was episode 7. So the good old days lots of people are talking about aren't really a thing I feel. And if you mean still legends from recent sets but homebrewed on top of it, last one was two episodes ago. So it's pretty safe to say those are going to come back and continue. I understand the frustration because GK don't come out that often due to the pretty big production quality (I noticed a lot of improvement on feedback of effects and animation in this episode so it's something they are improving to this day). But at the same time I was making the observation that this show is really accessible to newcomers. GK was actually what got me into EDH in the first place and that was thanks to the editing and way they explain each move. And recently my little sister got her first precon edh deck and I was happy to have a gameknight episode that would showcase it so that she would learn how the deck works. That's why I really don't mind those types of videos because it shows that they will put the same amount of effort into a video for veteran edh players than in one for new players for which these brawl precons might be the first edh like experience they'll get before building a more refined edh deck. For me GameKnight also means accessible. And I have trouble getting into some other edh shows on youtube because I'm relatively new to the game (a bit more than a year) and don't know all the cards. And if I want someone to get a feel of what edh is I will point them to this channel because I know it is accessible. And for that, I'm glad they make videos on format that are less overwhelming to newcomers like Brawl is. It can be a gate opened to edh, but it's easier to pick up for someone who just started out thanks to the limited cardpool. So yeah "The sponsorship is ruining gameknight" I guess. But I know that if a friend, who never played magic, is interested in getting into it, I might tell them to start with a brawl precon, watch this video and then show them how they can upgrade the deck for edh. And that's important in my eyes too. So I'm thankful to the team. Because having their likable personality be a showcase for these makes it a pleasure even for me who enjoys more complicated homebrewed edh decks. And it gives me a good way to get friends or family into the game more easily. That's why I still loved this episode ^^
JLK and JW, I just wanted to say that I appreciate the Game Knights podcasts and Game Knights Commander episodes so much! These episodes have been instrumental in helping me feel more educated and confident with things like understanding how different mechanics of the game work, and especially at what stages of a turn those effects would occur! Props to both of you for all of your hard work and helping the community be better at MTG!
I'm watching not for the format, or what decks are being played. I love how well edited, shot, and engaging this series is! Seems like a lot of hate in the comments, but I'm loving the content!
I understand that they're being pushed into doing episodes featuring Preconstructed decks, because they're meant to be sponsored advertisements, but it just seems unnecessary. These brawl decks are already selling out, to the point that wizards had to put out an announcement saying "Don't worry, we are going to print more!" Yes this show is a great marketing vehicle, but I think it'd be better received if it was showcasing what the cards are capable of when you take it to the next level.
You do have to remember that Magic is a sponsor of Game Knights, they recorded this like a month ago so they wouldn't know how sales would happen, and precons like this do provide an even playing field for all participating
For what it's worth, they're also friends with Melissa and wanted to show off the cool decks she made. Also, it's hard to get someone like Reid on the show, and it's easier if there's already a deck for him to play since commander isn't normally his thing.
Huh... The sadest part about the new brawl decks when annouced was that I knew you would dedicate another episode to this format, and it is even saddest because this time it is not even homebrewed...
I disagree: I really enjoy seeing how good players make decisions with casual decks. Watching Reid Duke using Golgari Findbroker prioritize making a land drop, as just one example, was really instructive.
@@jqxok I mean, not saying it wouldn't be amazing to watch Schumacher pilot a go-kart and see what he can do with it, just that it would be a lot cooler to see the pro players use their experience to go wild with their decks. deck building is one of the main factors that define the better magic player after all.
Is wizards making you play the precons out of the box? These game knights episodes feel like they're missing a core aspect of what makes these entertaining, you don't have the personal expression of the decks people make.
Originally "Game Knights" was called "Out of the box" and for the first episodes they were playing exclusively Commander precons even when Wizards' sponsorship wasn't even on the horizon. I personally don't mind precon play in the slightest, in fact the Commander Anthology edition was the craziest and most fun of them all IMO.

Eric Schmalzried You have a name because you don’t know yourself, I don’t have a name because I know who I am.
- That Black Cat Thing
This channel has inspired me to start playing magic again and collecting the cards. Shows that ANYONE can play, including girls.
Melissa is hands down the MVP, she helps out JLK twice even after all that he has done to her.
"I'm going to have to try this again sometime" : Whoever wrote Reid's plug. And Reid, many times. Sharing this one far and wide you guys are the best.
The precons actually look much more fun to play in multiplayer than the 1v1 we got in arena.
To be fair they didn’t put enough removal in them
Yeah i agree these decks would be alot more fun multiplayer
I agree 100%. I'm a singleton junky, so of course I played the brawl decks on arena, but I wasn't happy about it.
Yeah, Faerie vs Faerie took me 1 hour plus to play... everytime
Reid is my favorite magic player, I was so excited when i saw him on your show. He also didn't disappoint and played jund!
Absolutely no one :

1v1 is a lot different from 4p.
@@Tryo707 I did that to soooo nasty but fun
@@Ceracio I feel the same. I just make random janky decks. What ever I have I use more fun that way that's why I'm mostly a gold rank
Ugh i wanted to see full Commander decks of these. Maybe a future episode?
100% they won't.
Never gunn happen
Always kill Josh. That's my advice. He always finds a way out of sticky situations somehow. Love it!
He reminds me of a Sith Lord with how he manipulates the board, always playing the thoughtful player but with a hidden agenda of actually winning the game.
@@oddjob4212 precisely!
asdf: hi, i baked you a pie

Reid Duke is one of my faves!! I'm sad he didnt win. He spent the whole game rebuilding consistently and incredibly well but alas... flyers...
Man I just want a home brew episode of really any format more than just so many precon videos.
Edit - also I hate it when they all overreact to the power level of a precon card just appease wizards. (ie. some trash cards hits the table, Everyone: Whooooooah, what a strong card)
i agree, not very creative...
Same here. Shake it up a lil
I mean when everyone is playing precons it shifts the power level do cards that are normally bad become pretty strong
They removed the top comment which was complaining about the same thing... im lowkey pissed they remove criticism rather than respond to it
I dunno. I'd take this episode anytime over that overpowered and unfun shitshow with Amaz and MTGNerdGirl a while back.
The deck just needs improvements for the other cards. The commander and concept itself is great
Thanks everyone for making this such an enjoyable presentation! It's great seeing you all having fun while showcasing the subtle nuances of combat mechanics and giving us insight into your strategies.
This was the better play thru of these decks Ive seen. I loved seeing how each one has its own killer combos and techniques. And seeing the decks played thru makes me want them more.
Do you know the name of the deck Reid used? I searched these decks on Amazon but Reid’s is not named after his commander
Every time I watch any video with Reid, I am just struck by how extraordinary humble this man who might be the greatest player on the planet. He just seems so happy to be here and I love that kind of positivity in my magic content.
Anthony Aguilar what about Owen turtlesalt!
(edit)
bring back Reid and let him bring his own deck, I'd love to see how he builds.
besides that, it was kinda frustrating to watch Josh flounder for most of the episode. wouldn't have happened with a better built deck...
Agreed. Please keep doing your wonderful work. However, I will never play brawl nor buy “Brawl” decks.
I find it mostly disappointing when they invite pro players to play precons. These are some of the best players in the world not just because of the skill in how they play, but also in how they BUILD their decks. Not letting us hear their deck building mentality is a real shame. Honestly just a waste
@@worldthroughabucket but then again. Commander is supposed to be a fun game.
I was really excited to see Reid play but much less excited to hear it's a precon deck
I'm fine with you guys playing brawl, and I'm fine with you guys promoting the new Commanders from the new set, but please build new decks around those commanders, not these precons
@@dakotaminton9561 only reason I want them is because of the value
@@dakotaminton9561 what? moneywise they are pretty good for the most part, if you get them for msrp

I mean, it'd be a bit rude to have Melissa on and be like "Here, take this deck that you built and throw out all the cards in it because our viewers don't like this precon crap. Oh and don't worry, we'll be doing the same thing so you may as well go ahead and just quit your job cos nobody wants to see your stupid decks."
I personally don't see what the problem is when you have precon decks designed this well. Melissa did a great job and Reid certainly seemed to be enjoying himself as much as I did.
That is literally the exact opposite of how i imagined the game would go. What a rollercoaster of emotions
The editing and animations just keep getting better. That "korvold, frog cursed king" at 1:07:44 is just precious.
Complete with flavor text.
"Ribbit."
The animations and production value on this episode were amazing! Big kudos to whoever thought of cake effect on the dragon!
16:24 "and that will bring me to knight-teen" Nice one Josh, nice one...
"I'm hoping to find some food"

JLK and JW, I just wanted to say that I appreciate the Game Knights podcasts and Game Knights Commander episodes so much! These episodes have been instrumental in helping me feel more educated and confident with things like understanding how different mechanics of the game work, and especially at what stages of a turn those effects would occur! Props to both of you for all of your hard work and helping the community be better at MTG!
I'm watching not for the format, or what decks are being played. I love how well edited, shot, and engaging this series is!
Seems like a lot of hate in the comments, but I'm loving the content!
"Food is cool" - Reid Duke
oh jimmy forgot to draw a card when he cast beanstalk giant lol
I think that was the third issue this game? All in all not bad, considering how long they played
Reid forgot to kill smothering tithe before it gets a million mana
Somebody plays a card
Everyone else: "They're a threat now"
love the detail on this channel, “frog cursed king”
I understand that they're being pushed into doing episodes featuring Preconstructed decks, because they're meant to be sponsored advertisements, but it just seems unnecessary.
These brawl decks are already selling out, to the point that wizards had to put out an announcement saying "Don't worry, we are going to print more!"
Yes this show is a great marketing vehicle, but I think it'd be better received if it was showcasing what the cards are capable of when you take it to the next level.
@@40Found This GameBox person gets it. -JLK
Huh... The sadest part about the new brawl decks when annouced was that I knew you would dedicate another episode to this format, and it is even saddest because this time it is not even homebrewed...
Having people like Reid and Melissa play Brawl precons is like giving Michael Schumacher a go-kart to drive.

Could we get more free deck building in commander for the players?
Is wizards making you play the precons out of the box? These game knights episodes feel like they're missing a core aspect of what makes these entertaining, you don't have the personal expression of the decks people make.
10/10 icon mate
Yes, they are promoting the products
Originally "Game Knights" was called "Out of the box" and for the first episodes they were playing exclusively Commander precons even when Wizards' sponsorship wasn't even on the horizon. I personally don't mind precon play in the slightest, in fact the Commander Anthology edition was the craziest and most fun of them all IMO.
Ирина Радчук these aren’t even real commander decks though. No one actually plays brawl.
@@jakeapplegate6642 They are well built though. For what the limited pool of cards allowed Melissa and her team actually made pretty good, focused decks with a decent cardpool if you're looking for some value(as long as your LGS is not ripping you off)
This is the single most entertaining game of commander I have witnessed. These decks are so intricately designed and, man, watching pros play is really something else.
I love how happy Reid is this whole game, I'd love to see him again in another episode of game knights or extra turns.
