Last year, we held an audition to allow one Game Knights fan to appear as a guest on the show. The winner was Jacob Holloway from Columbus, Ohio. We flew him out to LA to “get knighted” and battle it out in an epic Commander game with Jimmy, Josh and Ashlen Rose.
Jacob brought a deck he calls “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better” but how will it fair against Jimmy’s Anafenza Token strategy? How will it deal with Ashlen’s Colorless Eldrazi deck? And will it have any chance vs Josh’s Roon Blink shenanigans?

ANSWERS FOR MOST COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR THE EPISODE (and Spoilers)
1. The CMC of a spell with X in its cost is different in the hand than it is on the stack. When the spell is cast, the CMC changes based on what you pay for the X cost, thus when Jimmy cast his spell, it was an 11CMC spell. It states this clearly on the Gatherer page for Void Winnower: For spells with Variable Colorless in their mana costs, use the value chosen for X to determine if the spell’s converted mana cost is even or not. For example, your opponent could cast Endless One (with mana cost Variable Colorless) with X equal to 5, but not with X equal to 6. (gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=402093)
2. The reason Ashlen was able to cast cards from her deck that were previously in her graveyard (like the Burnished Hart) is because her graveyard was shuffled back into her library due to the ability on multiple Eldrazi that states "When THISCARD is put into a graveyard from anywhere, its owner shuffles their graveyard into their library."
3. The Seedborn Muse that Josh owned does not have hexproof - Jacob copied Josh's Seedborn Muse with Lazav, Dimir Mastermind when it went to the graveyard. Lazav has Hexproof, and retains this ability when copying a card.

Couldn't Josh have exiled the Kozilek to let Jimmy's spell go through at 1:06:10 (because she wouldn't have had the discard a card trigger?
@@ismailchishti8577 I think Kozilek has priority 'cause he has the counter on the cast, while Roon ability can be played at instant speed. So basically Kozilek can use his ability before Roon can exile him. I think prio works something like this, but correct me if i'm wrong.
Saying this episode was "brilliant" feels like an understatement. The behind the scenes clips add SO much to the whole show. Knocked it out of the park. Jacob was phenomenal.

I'm 35 minutes in thinking this might be the greatest episode of Game Knights yet. 66 minutes in and now I'm certain it is.

This is probably my favorite episode of Game Knights to date. Lots of video to sink ones teeth into. Jacob's deck was sweet to see and it was cool to see each deck doing its thing (except poor Jimmy, he was always on the cusp of greatness until someone swept his legs out from under him). But i've got to give major props to Ashlen. Not only did she play well, it's awesome to see a colorless deck. A treat as always!!

It's a great deck in a semi competitive group, but not really for game knights. Turn 6 blightsteel??? If jimmy didnt have an out, this game was not going to be as good as it ended up being at all.

First i wanna say that i dont even own a deck of MTG cards, dont even play it. Saw u guys at rec page 4 days ago and i wanted to check out what this game is about. I dont watch videos that are more then 10 mins long, but i spend more than 3 hours watching your videos, and i gotta say that u guys are AMAZING. The amount of work u put into one video is...idk Im speechless. I have never been more entertained. I watched full videos and i enjoyed every second of it. Maybe one day i can get some lessons from u guys, cus u made me order some decks and start playing MTG. Keep it up guys!
That’s super awesome dude, I’m personally happy you enjoy the content even though I’m just a viewer like you, and I definitely recommend magic, it’s an extremely fun game to play, draft and commander are endless fun. Opening packs is so much fun when you are with your friends and when you get enough synergy to build a deck it is amazing. Go out and meet some people near you that play magic, I would have quit the game years ago if I didn’t play with friends all the time
dude honestly that's great. Command zone got me hooked on MTG in the first place too so that is amazing that u are starting to play! Also try untap.in it is basically MTG online and you can make your deck out of any cards on the database. If you love magic that much try it out!

This is my favorite kind of game. Everyone got to be king of the hill at least once, and nobody died or got locked out too early. Although Jimmy got shut down quite a bit, he did get to make some important plays.

One of the better Game Knights for a while, nice to get a real solid game. Jacob was fantastic, and bringing a deck that's all about playing off what your opponents do is such a solid choice, all about the 75% theory. Only thing that seems like a shame is him getting eliminated first. Of course, I get it, it wouldn't be a game without treating him like an actual player. Glad to see from the end that he got to do a lot more out there with you guys, and that he was such a good sport about everything.
None of their deck ia even close to 75% though? Like... bruh. They are good players assembling fun decks, none of them would stand a chance against a competitive 75% list.

Yeah I think he was only eliminated first because Ashlen was so far ahead that she didn't want Jacob casting his commander again to let the other two draw cards. Smart decision on her part. Unfortunately for him, group hug commanders can easily make you a target, especially if you're as far ahead as she was.

@John Switzer Nah dude I totally agree. He deck is sort of the reason I stopped playing commander. There are a lot of decks (im looking at you, stax) that are so oppressive to play against and take away the best part of commander in my opinion; the giant creatures and spells that you couldn't play in any other format.
I mean you could say all that, but there are lots of ways that that big dick energy eldrazi deck could have gone tits up, especially if they hadn't checked jacobs copy deck so hard. Personally I think eldrazi decks are cool, and she played hers well.

I love card games. And watching people play them. I've never played mtg before but the energy Jacob has really makes me wanna play.... maybe I'll get a starter to see how I like it. =)

Very nice showing from Ashlen and the kozilek deck... she drew aprox 11 cards, fetched 5 lands, and countered 8 spells. with at least one super clutch counterspell per player she eliminated. Made it look easy
By far the most entertaining Game Knights episode.. Didn't even noticed it was one hour long.

This was probably my favorite episode yet! Not only was it a great game where everyone had a shot, but seeing Ashlen take it down in such an awesome way was amazing! I especially loved it when Jacob offered her that alliance and she was like "Nah, I think I've got this on my own", then she proceeded to knock out everyone in a row. Totally badass. Between this epic showing and Autumns recent pt win it's an amazing time to be a women in magic.

My favorite episode by far... Ashlen's deck is savage. Josh's Roon dek is soooo cool beause it is a very interactive deck, value engines are so interesting. Jimmy's Anafeza deck looks like a deck I would use, Abzan is my favorite combination. And Jacob's deck looks so cool. His ability to play all decks he wants must be fun, cuz you can never get bored as you will always pla different things. Also it seems you need to study every aspect of the game well to actually know ow to pilot it, and if not for CDamage he would've probably won this game
That episode was amazing with great guests and some really fantastic plays! But my favorite part is the sequence starting at 33:31 . The arrogant attitude Ashlen had during that sequence was just so appropriate! That "I'm the boss here!" or "hold my beer" attitude was just hilarious! Those moments of pure drama are what I love so much in Game Knights! I know it's a 3 years old video, but this is one of my favorite episode to date.

Not that hard to build a colorless Eldrazi deck So saying she is one hell of a deck builder based off of that deck is far from great deck building. Id be surprised not almost all MTG players have a deck or the cards to make one just like it

I know. It probably would have made the game less entertaining, but after a bunch of recent wins, I was ready to see him get knocked out early this time.
Jacob was awesome! He was charismatic, clever and he brought some interesting differences in play to the table
At 26:54 the Harmonic Sliver, would it make sense to use Reclamation Sage? The Mana is simpler and it does more damage but has the same effect on artifacts and enchantments. I've never played commander so wanting to understand how this works.

Mana was never the issue. JLK got out Harmonic Sliver with Defense of the Heart.
Having said that...I would have played Archetype of Aggression or some other creature that would have protected my board. Or, barring that, gotten out one of a few Angels that would have had a Wrath attached to it as an ETB.
What most people don't understand is that creatures like Kozilek don't matter if they never stick to the board. Having a repeatable, Wrath effect would have won the game for Josh. And since he could have kept blinking creatures as he did over time, he should have been playing spells like Cloudshift to avoid effects like the Cloning or Silumgar.
Found out a few things today.
1. Binge watching Magic is so encapsulating that I'm up at 2am and planned on sleeping at 11pm.
2. I hope I never meet a Kozilek on the field other than my own.
3. We need more Tolarian CC love on command zone, poor prof needs to win one (Same with Cassius).

When Ashlen activated Perilous vault, Jacob should have tapped his Commanders sphere for mana before sacrificing it to draw a card, then he could have used the mana to sacrifice Mind stone to draw another card. I literally just noticed this, and I've watched this game at least six times.
