Cassius is the real winner to me. This man tried his hardest for sooooo much of the game, and just could not do anything. He ended up being in the worst position out of all four players for most of the game! Yet when he was about to win, he held back, took the L he honored his promise. Major props to you dude ^-^

He's the kind of player I love having in the game. He doesn't let winning get to his head, and just wants to have fun and play cards.
It was also really nice to watch his deck work like he wanted to. The amount of power it cranked out in a couple turns post-emblem was insane!

I can't recall where I heard it (if it was a GK episode or on the podcast) but somewhere it was mentioned that Cass knows he's competitive (obviously) and really does try his hardest to dial it back when playing MtG. But it's like trying to tame a lion... sure it's POSSIBLE to get the fun-loving beast but we should always be prepared for the killer.... haha
Major props to Cassius. I can't say that I would've done the same in his position, not sure many people would. Keeping his word meant more than winning to him. That's a damn fine magic player who embodies everything I love about the game. Wish he would be even more active in the Magic community, caster or announcer in the Pro Tour for instance. Loved the episode. Keep up the good work! :)

Naa it just made a huge anti climax and ruined the end of a game that could have been interesting. Really dont like taking deals this serious when it takes away for the overall game experience for the audience...Also if I were josh i would have feelt like that wasent a real victory
Once he retires, Wizards needs to hire him for PR. It would be awesome!
Breaking truces for no reason is a really dick move. We don't allow that in our playgroup, since it makes for salty moments and conflicts. At the end of the day Josh could've just made the deal with somebody else and taken Cass out, so either way he wouldn't have won.
if you plan on playing more games with the same people, breaking deals affects your ability to make deals in future games
I love seeing Cassius in these games. Hands down my favorite guest on the show. He’s just fun to watch. And I love the decks he plays. Great episode. 👌🏻

They're playing cards from as far back as Kaladesh. That left standard and brawl before Ravnica came out, so at time of filming Vraska's Contempt didn't exist.

Edit: And sure the rotation caused major pieces for one of the decks to be cut but the point is that at the time of filming vraska’s contempt existed, especially in because ixalan set #1 survive rotation.

Not quite. If he didn't make the deal, Jimmy might have, then Josh would have done to Cassius what he did to Jimmy, instead.
Stormerbuzz FyfEnDertig it makes their games interesting instead of all of them focusing on just winning they try to be in the game as long as possible, which makes longer games and more fun plays get worked out based on what one player does to another because of a deal made with another player.
Cassius could've won, but he's a gentleman. :D

Just rewatched the episode for the 10th time and I didn't notice how funny it was, when Ben says: "We just lock Jimmy in the bathroom". I couldn't stop laughing and thinking about Cassius grabbing the bathroom door from the outside while Jimmy just screams for help and for Cassius to let him out.

Probably one of the best, if not the best, episode of Game Knights. Everyone’s decks went off and it was super fun to watch. I definitely want to build around Muldrotha, he’s so good!

only in brawl. an archonancer and cyclonic rift can easily make rebuke and scribe a complete garbage in a normal commander game.

This really got me wanting to build around Muldrotha, btw was it just me or did Jimmy pay an extra mana to cast Vraska the second time?
Yeah I have a Muldrotha deck and it's SUPER fun. It's also one of the more complicated decks you can play in commander because when you have a 70 card hand you have infinite possibilities! And you can win by either just out-valuing your opponents by constantly playing destroy effects and draw effects and stuff, or you can set up a nuke (I really like combo-ing Lord of Extinction and Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord lol)

Vraska's Contempt was one of the most popular cards in Standard, before Dominaria.
I would love to see more games with Melissa, Professor and Cassius. And please, play some Planechase
I haven't been able to play with my commander decks yet because my local game store has commander when I had class (I can go now!), and I've been nervous about people having CRAZY decks. I think Brawl might be a good way for people like me to get into playing commander to see how we need to build our decks. It'll be much easier with a smaller pool of cards to figure out the idea of deck building.
Dude, don't be intimidated by cockatrice - equal access to every card ever made means you'll have outrageously powerful decks too. Hit me up on cockatrice if you want to play casual or cEDH - username Svartulfr.

Also using EDHREC is a good idea. So you can find your general and then go from there
Also, maybe finding a good group you could form house rules with make could be good. That way you are all on the same page
I'll have to look into what cockatrice is.
Overall though, I'm going to be moving out of the country in a few months so I also can't really get a good play group. I'll have to find one once I've settled in where ever I end up (probably Japan).

Michael Sagi Well, ideally both. Especially if I add Ramos, Dragon Engine to the build; removing five +1/+1 counters means casting two huge things using Jodah’s built-in Fist of Suns ability, and casting two indestructible Eldrazi in one turn for a total of ten mana is just bonkers.

Cody Watson Talk about Sunbird's Invocation, too! I use both that and Rishkar's Expertise in my Samut EDH deck, and both are absolute powerhouses when you're just casting big creature after big creature.
What do you use Rishkar's Expertise in?
Hutman50 anything with green at this point but first tried it in Gitrog. Going to reconfigure my Kraj and stick it there next.
I use it in an Ezuri, Claw of Progress edh deck. I've gotten more than a few "What? It does that!? Why am I not running this card???"s

Invocation is so underrated. I run it in my Kaervek deck and it does WONDERS.

My friends and I had the same mistake with the new green legendary enchantment. Glad you guys addressed it and that we weren't the only ones who did that. Card is still awesome though.

Can't fault you for the mistake on Kamahl's Druidic Vow there, it was natural to assume it worked like Genesis Wave, because as it is it's just so badly powered down...
He also shouldn't have gotten Song of Freyalise there either. Sagas, while Historic, are not Legendary.

i wonder is Cash still has this deck, and if he loaded it up with haste enablers for his team or more over the top over run effects, knowing Cash he is very capable of tweaking his decks with any card legal in commander and turning his 7 or 8 power decks into 9-10s very easily after some testing. Cash is great glad he has become such a great ambassador for the game.

Liam Wood honor is not what you are will to do, but what your willing to give up; he did not feel his was worth giving up over a card game
Never would of made the deal. Josh always goes off and has a ton of answers. The best way to deal with him is to force him to choose rather than give him a way out.
Yall should add a little animation that keeps track of floating mana, it can get a little convuluted at times when you got a bajillion rocks out and its hard to follow. Plus it would look cool.

I know it's a year later, but he wasn't. Summoning sickness was the reason Josh couldn't just Rivers Revuke Cass on his final attack.

Uhavefriendss I disagree. It is also hard to judge a format from one video the very first time the guys play it. I am actually angling for a format between Modern and Standard so I want Wizards to know it is ok to try inventing new formats.

Josh, Jimmy, and everyone else associated with Game Knights. I would just like to say something to you guys. I started playing MTG when I was about 11 years old. It was at a Boy Scout summer camp, where MTG is popular, along with any other card game you can imagine. No phones allowed, so a lot of time was spent playing card games. I got really into it, and even built a deck that wasn't too good, but I loved. It was actually a blue green evolve deck, of all things! At about 13, no one I knew played it any more, so I stopped too. Wasn't worth it when I only got to play MTG for about 5 days a year. I stuffed my decks into a box in my closet. Well, I found your channel. Now my love for MTG is reignited, at age 17, and I am deckbuilding again. I just made a deck centered around Tokens and Campaign of Vengeance, and I can't wait to see how it plays. I just wanted to thank everyone involved for making me love MTG again, with your absolute love for the game and showing me again why I loved it in the first place.

even though i havent played one commander match yet, i enjoy your videos alot @TheCommandZone my only complaint is that the game knights dont get posted that frequently . if were possible i wish there was a new one at least once a week .
Wow, a format where I can have to buy new cards every two years, and can pay inflated standard prices?? Sign me up!! (kidding)
I actively hope this format doesn't take off, because it's nice to have one format in Magic where you can have multiplayer fun with a set of loose rules that everyone plays with and doesn't have to rotate decks every 5 seconds. I see this as an attempt to wrest players away from an eternal format into a rotating one by Wizards, since it's in their interests to do so.
