In the length of this video , I sharpened my knife using a knife sharpener (30 seconds)
I sliced a tomato and a piece & piece of cheese ,then buttered 2 slices of bread (25 seconds )
I put the cheese and the sliced Tomato in the bread to make and sandwich and ate (1minuet 10 seconds )
I washed up the plate and knife ( 10 seconds)
    Total , 2 minuets 15 seconds .

Hello from France.
      Traduction Reverso :
These are survivalist techniques. Or when you are away from home and away from everything. Or you want to save money. Make your imagination work. And you will realize that we do not need to burden ourselves with everything that shops offer us and this model of consumer society that brings us straight into the wall... and honking again.... But thank you for the touch of humor.

@@Sylvie-Caroline survivalist techniques you say? Didn’t know that when your away from everything you have access to power tools lol 😂…
How did he drill the holes? Do you carry a battery drill with you? A saw to cut the wood he used? Ruler, pencil, screws, carry pieces of wood with you because why not? You never know what you might need them for. Wouldn’t someone carry a SHARO KNIFE when heading to “the middle of nowhere” Or use a rock if you were trying to be imaginative out in “the middle of nowhere” 😂
This is imaginative, but imaginative in the sense of trying to think of ways to make videos and get viewers to click, stay & watch and get likes. Because this is what this person does. He is a UA-camr, it’s his job to be imaginative but this “sharpening method” is not useful, easy or practical.. it’s JUST for views and the title does say “sharpening a knife in 3 minutes” he didn’t do the battery sharpening till the end.. hoping viewers would be like uuu’s and aaa’s.
      Deuces ✌🏼

OK, I hadn't seen the video, I admit, I just responded to your comment which both irritated and amused me.
For this video, I admit that I was wrong. The marketing intention is so obvious: Duracell battery, Ikea knife, Colgate toothpaste... we put toothpaste in all sauces... often sour and expensive.
Your comment will serve as a lesson to me. Besides, why waste time commenting on these kinds of videos. Sorry for wasting your time. Besides, I have better things to do, prepare my vote for the next European elections. We are at a decisive turning point. It's one to midnight. And I don't want to miss out.
      Good day.

I'm guessing your Dad used to carry a knife ,like I did and still do . Even my school didn't mind if boys 10 and up carried a blade, the scouts encouraged it.
Every souvenir shop sold knifes .
Guess how many people got stabbed in fights after school ?
      None .
White culture was to carry a knife and not use it to harm anyone.

This is interesting but can you tell me what effect is caused by using the metal casing of the small battery please? I'm also intrigued by use of toothpaste? what effect does that have on the sharpening process? Like others have said, I tend to use a two grit carborundum stone which does the trick pretty well.

    • @wienerwoods
      @wienerwoods Рік тому +18

Battery is round with a metal (aluminum) casing. Aluminum oxide is as hard as sapphire. Toothpaste has fine abrasives and acts as a wetting agent. Roundness of battery decreases contact area, increasing unit pressure applied to the working surfaces. It's actually pretty clever, but this guy's knife handling skills are - unsafe to say the least.

And, to add to your sensible reply, your method also saves expensive damage to any good quality cutting tool and also saves severe damage to your phalanges and a costly drive to the ER for stitches!!

    • @Sam-sm9ok
      @Sam-sm9ok Рік тому +13

All the battery casings I opened were cheap zinc/steel alloy, aluminum would be relatively expensive, when you are making millions. The headline was misleading, the battery DID NOT do anything to make the knife sharp, it was used as an 'applicator' of the abrasive tooth paste to further sharpen the cutting edge; aluminium would have been too soft for this purpose, even with the minute particles of AlO3 formed, it would be useless compared to the tooth paste. As many observers commented an oil stone would be FAR SIMPLER and much much less time consuming! I think the author needs to improve on his knife sharpening skill, before making any more silly videos with misleading headline!

The process of using a round, hard, smooth object to finish the surface, is called burnishing. If the edge has been well shaped with the stone or paper, the burnishing can be done with a screwdriver shank for an awesome edge. Battery cases are zinc.

Yeah toothpaste and a battery. The abrasive has to be harder than the material you want remove. Particulate hydrated silica is similar to hardness of enamel, According to the Mohs Hardness Scale, tooth enamel earns a 5. That means it's about as hard as steel. You are better using a good sharpening stone and finish with a strop and a dab of silicon carbide paste. SiC is 4x harder.

It is a joy to use a sharp knife. But all knife cannot be sharpened. Depends on the material it is made of. Rub either the knife or a grinding medium at an angle to knife edge. Sandpaper wrapped around a stick is the simplest. Cutting wheels of hand held cutters are very cheap. Any cocrete or sandy stone edge can be used for sharpening. Keep a piece of sand stone handy, it may be all that you need. Sand mortar, when set and dry is another choice.

Real title: "...USING A BATTERY... And also some wooden boards, sawing material, a ruler, an electric screwdriver, a drill, some screws, an artificial fire, some pliers, some cotton, some glue, other pliers with curved tips , some sandpaper (I recommend P320), a pencil, some scissors, more screws with disks, a spray bottle with water, a cloth to dry the knife, A BATTERY, peeled with a cutter, some toothpaste, some paper to clean the toothpaste from the knife... AND VOILÀ! Now you can slice a rotten tomato".

Razor sharp? You must be bloody joking! 🤣 That tomato is a mess! Your "sharpened" knife is way blunter than the point that I call my knives blunt and need sharpening with waterstones (1000 grit followed by 5000). You are the king of blunt - even your drill bits are blunt! Many of your techniques using various tools are dangerous too.
However, your contraption for getting a consistent angle is a good idea.
