  • Mosaic knitting is decptively easy!! All you have to know how to do is knit, slip stitches, and how to read a chart written for mosaic. The trick is you work each row of the chart twice -- once in each direction. This video walks you through all of those little tricks.
    The video is designed to go with HOKC's Knitting Tote KAL.

    I am a fair isle knitter, and only been knitting for a year. I inadvertently bought a kit and pattern with mosaic knitting. It has been confusing to me on how to read the chart and pattern, so thank you for this help!

      I am so glad you found it helpful. Yes, you have to forget some rules in chart reading when you switch from Fair Isle to Mosaic! But they are both fantastic techniques!!

    Love your video. Is there a way to take any chart and turn it into a slip mosaic knit pattern?

      No all charts will work with Mosaic. You need to think about the motif with 4 rows at a time. When you are working with the C2, you have to have a C1 stitch to slip in order to maintain the lines of the motif. My best recommendation is to chart the motif you want then double the number of rows and add the slip stitches. If you come across a spot that has to have a stitch and does not, see if you can make an adjustment. Also, Barbara Walker has a fabulous book on Mosaic. And her Treasury books all have mosaic motifs. Have fun with it!

      Hi Karen, it is possible that the pattern you are looking at is showing both rows of the mosaic. Please remember that a chart always reflects the right side only. So right side rows (usually odd numbers) are worked as seen from right to left. The wrong side rows are worked from left to right and you work the stitches as they would appear on the right side. To say that in English... on the wrong side rows you will knit which will cause a purl stitch on the right side. I hope that helps!! I do have a free drop in help on Zoom on Tuesdays: www.handsonknittingcenter.com/module/class.htm?classId=368942

      @@karenmallory282 posting a pattern is probably a bad idea given copy right issues. Please feel free to email me at handsonknittingcenter@gmail.com. We would use any part of the pattern you send us only to help you. Also, fee free to join me on Zoom today at 2:30. Does this apply to knitting in the round? Do each row twice?

    • @handsonknittingcenter1294
      @handsonknittingcenter1294  Рік тому

      I am making sure we replied. Yes, you will still work each rnd twice. In some patterns you will knit both rounds and some you will knit the first round and purl the second. Look for the designer’s instructions.
