  • Welcome to this weeks woodturning video.
Woodturning - Super Sharp Tools (The Podlets)
In this woodworking video I use a woodturning lathe to turn a green holly log into a podlet using very sharp tools.
When woodturning a piece like I find it important to nibble away at it until I see what shape the wood wants to be, this is what is so enjoyable about woodturning.
If you find these videos entertaining I’d appreciate you like, share and subscribe.
    Thanks for watching.

As an amateur with woodworker, i typically feel overpowered with the entire arrangement ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxrYREG3-7f1Aqk9ams3ZESRNzGnfdUtyQ . Be that as it may, this arrangements drove me through with much clarity and effortlessness woodplans. Works i now work like a genius. That is great!

Oh my gosh Jack, my heart was in my mouth watching you carve away at that long spindle so carefully, i really thought it wouldn't make it. Oh ye of little faith. The Podlets are so beautifully organic yet simple and it's the simplicity of it that makes me go Aaaahhhhhh. Your woodturning skills are second to none. Thank you for sharing wonderful video. Fantastic 😊 thank you for giving my work more meaning. If I can inspire any single person then I’m over the moon.
All you need is..Mountains of Green wood.. Air pods ( for podcasts and audio books) and hours at the lathe..
forget about making finish pieces and just make shavings.. bury yourself in them. You’ll dig your self out day after day a much better turner with more understanding of your craft. 👍🏻

Oh my god! I was watching this with my mouth hanging open and sitting on the edge of the chair in suspense. I've never seen such a sure hand and such mastery of a skill. That last touch with the bent stalk, sheesh. What perfection. I also did not think you could carve raw wood but its so supple and flexible. Just wow! What virtuoso work. Like hearing a Bach symphony for the first time. This is the hand of god surely. Subscribed.
Those tools must cost a fortune. Your sharpening skills are as deft as your turning. Bravo!

He only recently began using UA-cam - he is not a camera expert, but even so, worthwhile to watch simply for the pleasure of seeing a gouge "gliding" through wood. The guy from Japan - sometimes very thin turnings with interesting wood. Regards.

@@JackMackWoodturning I just yesterday found your channel. I, a 47 y/o female, could only dream of turning someday. I have watched some of these novice turners for years now. Watching their confidence to just get out there and fumble through and get feedback from some of the pros on YT has been inspiring. They have transformed before my eyes and done well to stick it out through their struggles. Sometimes, all it takes to have a successful channel is to have some charisma & courage and the ability to be humble and open to constructive criticism. I hope you are able to find your way to prop up these people with positivity and open yourself up to guide them as they grow. We all had to start somewhere and likely couldn't have found our "butts" with both hands in the beginning. Most of us hid behind closed doors during that process.

You should expect to loose your first 100 or so nick.. the worst thing people do when making these is stop incase they break them.. and they look horrendous.. they only work if they are super thin.. and they are not anout the finished piece as much as the practice.. if you want to get really really good with a gouge.. just practice these until you can make them 1mm thin on top and 3mm stems.. I promise you, you will not find it to be wasted time. You’ll be an absolute ninja with a gouge when your done. Work at high speed too.. 1800rpm to 2500 👍🏻

That is beautiful artwork. You have an amazing amount of talent. I recently ungraded to a nice lathe and I am looking forward to trying some of these. I hope I can make something close to what you have done. I will be thrilled. Thanks, and keep up the good work.
