- Welcome to this weeks woodturning video:
Woodturning - Cubism
In this woodworking video I use a woodturning lathe to turn a blank made with mahogany, yew, wenge, walnut and oak into a (cubism) vase. I feel this cubism based video falls into the ASMR and entertainment categories.
If you find these video’s a good source of entertainment, I’d appreciate you like, share and subscribe.
Thanks for watching.

First, let me take a moment to say, THANK YOU FOR THE ABSENCE OF MUSIC! I get so inundated with music no matter what type of tutorial I watch, that I exponentially appreciate just the simplicity and pristine silence of only ambient sounds. Next, wow. Just wow. The creativity. The expertise. The tolerances you hold; impossible! The beauty. The vision. I always start out wondering what you’re doing then my jaw drops as it comes together. Magical.
This could be the new World Cup trophy.
Blank looks like a Jenga tower...Lol! Good looking piece...👌🏿
Have you watched the one where I actually turn a jenga tower ?
Nope... that one hasn't shown up in my feed yet...sounds pretty cool though...
Just search “Woodturning giant jenga”
LOL! The way you had all those pieces of wood turning in a pot with glue, looked like a cooking video!
That is one intense game of Tetris you're playing! Well done.
Hahaha… hope you enjoy it 👍🏻
Really loved this piece. I especially enjoyed your all-in "don't screw with me" approach to glue in this project.
Keep up your awesome work.
That was my salad dressing technique 😆
Thanks for the kind words.
The colours and contrasts of the woods are awesome
Thanks P. Cubism fan?
This piece is really incredible! I love the cubism theme with the different species of wood! This style would make a gorgeous lamp base.
Lamp base is a great idea! 😊👍🏻
When you started this video I thought "Where the heck is he going with this ?"
Amazed at the final result, the variety of colours & the patterning in the vase, another truly beautiful & inspiring piece.
Thanks Steve. Glad you enjoyed it mate 😊👍🏻
Wonderful work Jack, all the various species really stand out and compliment each other. Great work, take care, John
Thanks John. I’m glad you enjoyed it buddy

Vase? I thought it was a pint glass 🍺 🤣
But it’s actually made of wood pieces and when you finished it it looked to me like a vase basically
What a lovely piece!
All those different woods give it so much character!
Thanks buddy

Nice one G. Thanks for watching 😊👍🏻😉
I love the way this turned out, Jack. Such a nice way to showcase so many woods!
Cheers Bex. Glad you think so. I have a vessel for my ale now 🤣
Beautiful piece! Cutting amongst the various woods/grains is challenging yet you made it look so easy, a master.
Thank you for the kind words my friend. Yes the changing grain orientation was challenging, but I feel necessary for the overall look of the piece.
The way the planes of wood intersect looks like a woven pattern. So beautiful.
Thanks.. have you seen my “woven plywood stool? “
Absolutely brilliant. Stunning work.
Thanks rob 😊👍🏻
Beautifully done, Jack! Love your glue up method. Thanks!

What a great glue up idea - I've done a few like this and never thought to make a glue up jig like that. I'm stealing that idea!

Some variation or another like this has been done a zillion times but somehow it's always interesting.

Tetris fan?
@@JackMackWoodturning No, my hand-eye coordination is lousy, but I've seen the game played.
Haha ok. I used to love it back in the 90’s 😊👍🏻
Nice creative.
Hi Jack, fantastic! I just love the wood mix, i remember doing a fruit bowl at school with teak mahogany and in the centre a pine mahogany mix, had it for years my mother loved it. cheers Will.

Thanks John. Much appreciated buddy 😊👍🏻
Very cool piece. The random glue up is what makes is so special looking.
Gary
Thanks Gary, you done one like this?
Not really but I did a large segmented donut that had random types of wood glued all over the place. But I do have boxes full of scraps I have been thinking of something similar. But your pieces in a bowl of glue was brilliant!
just gorgeous 👏👏👏👏
Blush
Good afternoon Jack...
How wonderful...your cubism..or patchwork as the grannies would call it..is absolutely stunning...if I lived near..I would be bankrupt but my house would be full of your artwork...lol...yeah I'm always amazed by what you make...
Thanks for another well turned piece...stay well...🌿🌿🌿
Nice one Pam. Good to see you as always. I have some good videos lined up I think you’ll like 😊👍🏻😉
The preparation on this must have intense! I know I would got lost a bunch of time putting that together. When you were turning it the colors of the wood were memorizing, great work brother you are a very creative dude
Thanks buddy. It was a hard one to prep.. but I just sink into an audio book in my headphones and just need to remember to get the critical shots here and there.. it’s a great way to spend a day a week.. I just wish I could do this full time 😆
Doing something you love to do full time would be awesome, I hope you can do this all the time.
Oh I do.. I’m a professional woodturner.. I just wish I could stop making 1000s of bowls and only make UA-cam videos.. I have the best job. I’m not complaining ☺️
@@JackMackWoodturning I wish you could do this full time, too, Jack!
Excellent selection of colours in your wood, well assembled too giving a very, very nice effect to the finished vase. For pieces like this I think you need a revolving display unit so that we can enjoy the total effect of pieces like this as they revolve. Great job, Don from South Aust.
Stunning piece!
Love the different colors of wood!
Thanks buddy . Would you have it in your home ?
@@JackMackWoodturning Absolutely!
Thank you. Very flattering indeed
Tetris in 3D. Lovely!
Haha . Yeah totally

Ff-ing AWESOME!!! A goblet worthy of the gods. Magnificent! Personally I found the way you made short work of the glueing proces genious and hilarious! That washing bowl! 😄😄 Wonderful!

Great idea for my exotic cutoffs ! Very nice.
Yeah never throw anything away! 😊👍🏻
What you going to make ?

Thanks M. Much appreciated 😊👍🏻
Looks great 👍
Cheers buddy
Beautiful piece.
Thanks man. Is the lotion in the basket?
@@JackMackWoodturning Still waiting…
Sorry to hear that
Well done. When you dumped the blocks into the bowl of glue I thought you were just making a big mess. Makes sense now that speed was going to be your friend in getting this blank all glued up. Looks great.
Yeah, if you brush each piece as you go on something like this it’ll start to bond on the first piece by the time you get to the last piece, then when you clamp it you’ll break the initial bonds on the first pieces and as you know that’s bad news. Salad dressing technique here. Works a treat. Easy to pour the excess back into the bottle once your done.
now thats awesome
👍👍👍👏👏👏 bravo!!! Super!!!
Thank you, would you have it in your home?
Love it! Nice work.
Thanks buddy.
Another amazing thing you've done well done true master very talented man fantastic work👍👍👍👏👏👏👌👌👌
