Hard to believe that in 1975 Genesis was auditioning singers to replace Peter Gabriel. Selecting their relatively new drummer Phil Collins to sing was the second best move Genesis ever made. Their first was allowing him to be their primary songwriter. God bless Phil Collins as he enters the last stage of his life off-stage. We'll miss you terribly.
One of the greatly missed band of our modern time. Their musiv is simply enerhizing and there seem to be a sense of a genious touch in almost every beat, rhythm and lyrics they composed.
A regular on a couple of Genesis and Prog pages on Facebook said recently that he once ran into Paul McCartney on the street in New York and asked him who he thought was the best band in the world, and that Paul instantly piped up: "Genesis, of course." Well, I've held that opinion since I first heard the song "The Musical Box" in early 1974, and my opinion hasn't changed. Theirs Is the music of a lifetime for many of us.
Saw them in the 80s at the Meadowlands (Giants Stadium). They were great. Their ballad “Driving The Last Spike” was so great with a large video screen showing men building the English railway. Very moving.
Kinda sad how they've faded out of existence. I suppose its better than one or two old timers touring with young stand-ins, trying to hold onto their glory past, like a lot of bands do. I'm just not a fan of that either
tell me 1 band of today performing as Genesis did, and the whole bands from 70th, i like less invisible touch repertoire (i liked very much tonight tonight tonight, the brazilian and the 2 outtakes, do the neurotic and feeding the fire) banks and rutherford were 2 groove machines. here i appreciated their unplugged dress, stuermer is great professional for having always a smiling mood according to the bands requests
The Holiday Inn version of Genesis live! Seriously, it's actually great seeing Phil handling the percussion while singing. An organic version of some great tunes for sure.
This is amazing. In my opinion i think the 2007 reunion should have been set up like this instead of full on concert, might have been less strenuous on the band especially Phil. This is also my favorite live version of Invisible Touch. Works so well acoustically.
Que Grand'Mister Phill Collins e a grande banda Genesis, eu só fico pensando, qual será a produção que o Genesis está preparando para nos surpreender mais uma vez.
Wow - never seen this. Full respec to the guys for doing this stripped-down set-up. Still sounds sounds massive. Respect to Daryl for that amazing solo on Invisible Touch.
@@anastasiapedersen1 as a huge Phil Collins fan, hell yeah its hard to watch him now. I was a teenager in the 80s and he was my only idol. But there's a time for everything and sometimes you have to give things up. He really needs to truly retire and take care of himself
The sound configuration for Follow You, Follow Me is very similar to the used in the We Can't Dance Tour (as heard in the Old Medley). Probably the same keyboard, which I think it's a Korg 01/W or one with similar tones (the lead being pretty similar to the Synclavier one). I'd wish to hear that on the 2007 reunion tour, rather than the ones used on that tour. I couldn't identify the name of that organ patch, but I found one very similar on the Wavestation VST, named Touch Organ.
@@bredenis5 Actually, Genesis didn't transpose this song down until 2021-2022 farewell tour. In fact, in the Old Medley is transposed up for matching I Know What I Like (which was transposed down on 2007 and 2021-2022 reunions for obvious reasons)

love this version of invisible touch. However, I think they should had done the same arrangement of follow you follow me as they did in 1998 with Ray Wilson.
Also, coz he was happily married at the time of this performance. Back when he sang "...she will 'f**kup your Life" he was thinking of either his 1st wife who cheated on him or his 1st love who came back & caused the breakup of his 2nd marriage.
As much as I respect their later albums as creative and good, I never will compare it to the "old" Genesis, all the way up to "Duke" that was the last truly Genesis Album.
Phil could still sing most of the songs here in 200 albeit transposed down a key. It wasn’t long after they said his vocal range significantly and noticeably narrowed.
i mean this was a one off concert so he could go more all in with his voice here than having to save it for the next concert as he would have to to during longer tours
For Banks/Collins/Rutherford 2000 would have been the perfect moment to go straight to the studio to make a new Genesis album. What if.

How is it possible to sing on such a highest level and playing drums simultaneously😮😮😮Phil is great!
Missing this funny and happy Phil Collins...
Agreed. I get it though ... 'chronic pain' changes people.
@@stephenlennartz3466 The 'chronic pain' includes his now ex-wife Orianne, who back then he was still happily married to.

That Phil keeps all parts going including Lead Vocals Amazing

It's so sad they were gone ALL those years. Just 2007 and the last tour. The last 25 or so years, all of them alive and no band. A shame.
Their music is as close to perfection as can be, I treasure All of their albums and listen to them whenever I get tired of what's now called music..👍😎
This is class 👌 one of the very best live bands ever

My god, this is beautiful.

Because it was… *“for Tony.”*
it was released. It was in the boxset dvd extras for the 1983-1998 Genesis reissues that was released in 2007.
