    Do some research - 1 snatch block pulley, 1:1 mechanical advantage, set up as shown. 2 snatchblock pulleys , 2:1 MA with a 2nd SBP anchored to the stuck load. In your set up, which is necessary to pull the load forward, the pulley redirects the same load, it does not double the amount of force. The load remains the same. The mechanical advantage is in pulling the stuck truck forward. The same force is needed to pull it, a 1:1 ratio. This routing does not ‘double winch pulling power’, but does redirect as needed the load/stuck Jeep to the anchor point,
    For a 2:1 mechanical advantage, that is “doubling winch pulling power’, set up as shown thru the 1st snatcblock anchored to tree as shown, but instead of anchoring to the tow hook; then run the winch line thru a 2nd snatchblock/shackle, that is shackled/connected to one of the trucks tow hooks; then back to the same anchor point, the tree, using a 3rd shackle attaches to the same or different tree saver strap. But, in your case, it isn’t necessary - a maybe 10,000# winch, winching maybe a 6,000# load? 1:1 MA will do it. OK, say you’re stuck in muck up to the roof, and it’s maybe 12,000#?
    Yeah, to be safe, do the 2:1. Thanks showing off all the cool gear, really good ads for them.
    Your 4x4 and gear is way cooler than mine! Nevertheless thanks for the YT entertainment and getting me to research for safety sake.

    If the pulley moves you are doubling the pulling power, not taking friction into it. If you are pulling a stuck vehicle with the pulley at the stuck vehicle you have 8000lbs on both cables coming from the pulley, the same is true if you are the stuck vehicle you have 8000lbs on both sides of the cable which means you have 16000lbls pulling you at half the speed.

  • @bat__bat

    This system can be confusing and this video is half true. 🤔 So in this example, the snatch block did not magically 2x the winch's power. It simply split the available power equally along the two lengths of cable running out the snatch block. The effect is like when you drop a vehicle into a lower gear and you trade off speed for torque. The total power remains the same. So, this example is very useful to "drop your winch into a lower gear" if you need to, but it ONLY works if you attach back the last point to the winch-mounted vehicle just like in this video. This is because the winch is pulling itself to the tree along one cable coming out the first side of the snatch block, while simultaneously enabling the snatch block to pull the jeep to the tree along the other cable coming out of the snatch block. If, instead, u attach that last connection to an anchor OTHER THAN the winch-mounted vehicle, you are no better than before when you didn't have a snatch block at all. You've only changed the direction of pull.

  • @rngmstrdan
    @rngmstrdan 2 роки тому +1

    I'm fairly certain this is simply reversing the direction of force, not multiplying it. If you were trying to pull the tree it would be a 2:1 increase, but you're still pulling the same load with this setup.

    • @eta_unknown368
      @eta_unknown368 2 роки тому

      I think you are right. Without the single sheave moving with the load it doesn't gain a mechanical advantage. But it would still lose 5% friction for that sheave.

    In theory your steel shackle should hold 20k lbs for a 10k winch. ie. my 1" crosby shackle is rated at 17k (wll) with a 6 to 1 safety rating. (7/8 shackles are rated 13.5k) call me crazy but id rather have a cable snap(with a dampener on) then a shackle or tree saver.

    • @Lmiller201
      @Lmiller201 5 років тому +3

      jaymanxxxx adding a snatch block doubles the load capacity of the line but your load rating is still the lowest rating of the lowest rated rigging.
      adding a snatch block is not meant to increase the load but to decrease the force necessary to move the same load.

    Can somebody tell me what the pointed bull bar on the bumper is supposed to do? I understand the point in protecting your engine bay which is what mine does (it's a lot shorter like an actual bull bar), but then I see others that stick so far forward and at a very sharp angle. I even see some with 1-3 holes in the point. I appreciate any insight on this.

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  5 років тому +1

      It is called a stinger. The actual design was intended for rock crawlers to prevent them from rolling over forward during extreme descents Offroad. So if your dropping down off a steep ledge and your Jeep starts to nose dive and want to “front flip”, it would stop that from happening. Of course, over the years it has become a style thing since most Jeep owners don’t put themselfs in Offroad situations that would cause a forward roll. The ones with holes in the tip are just there for styling from the brand, they have no real use.

      If the winch line goes to a fixed point with the SB and then back to the Jeep, it effectively halves the tension on each line or "doubles" power of the winch. If the line goes from the winch, through a SB at a fixed point and then on to another fixed point, then yes, MA is equal to 1, the same as if there was no pulley. Sorry to burst your bubble dude. But you are wrong. That does not increase your pulling power or in crease anything. Single snatch pulls are for directional purposes. The line travel on both sides of the block are equal, therefore no gain. Google it !!

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  5 років тому +5

      That is true with a static force pull. When you add a winch (a pulley within itself) it doubles the pulling power. Google it

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  5 років тому +2

      Also, it decreases the speed in half, so where does that extra “gear ratio” magically disappear to? It transfers directly into mechanical advantage AKA 2:1

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  5 років тому

      If I winched to a snatch block, and then to a tree then yes it will be 1:1, but a block back to the Jeep will increase pulling power

    • @daltonryan617
      @daltonryan617 5 років тому +33

      Engineer here, I think you’re both off a little. You’re not really doubling the “power” of your winch (that would be cool though), you’re decreasing it’s work by effectively halving the load on the winch. This occurs from the snatch block and rigging sharing some of the force in the system. What this means is that instead of the winch seeing let’s say 8000lbs of force in the line, had it been shackled directly to a tree, it now sees 4000 since this is a single purchase system, or a single pulley. You don’t get this for free though, since like the author stated, your bumper is the anchor point on the free end of the line and is inevitably seeing that other 4000 pounds as a reaction force around the recovery point hole (the poor snatch block sees all 8000lbs). Daniels right in saying it doesn’t increase power, but wrong in saying there’s no gain. You gain relieving your winch motor and that allows it to take twice the load before stalling out at its max torque limit (which never changed).
      Double power is just a standard way of saying all this garbled nonsense people usually don’t care about. Semantics, right? Either way great video and production quality! I really enjoy your stuff man.

    • @patrick660
      @patrick660 5 років тому +1

      your wrong theirs twice the amount off winch cable out so check with newtons law one action has a opposite reaction 5 ton pulling by winch around snatch block with no resistance will pull 5 ton down the other line to vehicle thus pulling capacity on snatch block equals 10 ton off force to anchor point
      of the snatch block dont forget the winch and hook can both move but the snatch block is fixed

    • @GrimReaper-ly8zk
      @GrimReaper-ly8zk 5 років тому

      Sorry you are wrong. You need two pulleys and three rope sections to halve the load . Tie a rope to the ceiling , have a pulley on the ground with rope through it, go back to the ceiling with a pulley up there and then pull on the third length of rope , if you pull it to the ground the pulley in the middle will only rise halfway. One pulley and two rope sections only changes direction of pull.

    • @aaronadkins8234
      @aaronadkins8234 4 роки тому

      @@GrimReaper-ly8zk You're partially right. One pulley and two lines only changes direction if the second line is not run back to the vehicle. If the winch line goes out, through a SB or pulley attached to a fixed point and back to the Jeep, it reduces the force needed by the winch to pull the weight of the jeep by half and so "doubling" your winches power.
