- Budget overland gear; Overlanding on a budget isn't as hard as you might think. I found tons of gear at even my local Walmart. If you live somewhere where there aren't any overland or offroad shops nearby, maybe you can find the gear at your regular shops instead.
Obviously I would say try to buy local when you can but if you can't there always other options.This is just one part of a series of videos where I go to local shops and try to find budget offroad and overlanding gear.

Buy the best you can afford don’t mean it has to be expensive it only has to do what you want or need it to do
Yeah I think for the most part my mantra has been buy the best I can afford at the time and then buy nicer things as I can afford more if needed.

True, but shopping at WalMart is never the correct answer.
Overlanding isn't necessarily what you HAVE, it's what you DO. I've accumulated a lot of really nice equipment over the years, but I did it a little at a time since my budget didn't allow it all at once. I'm a firm believer of buy once, cry once. I would do a ton of research on anything I wanted, then I'd save, save, save for it. Overlanding can be very simplistic or it can be very gear-laden. Your budget and time will get you everything you need/want.
Yeah the few times I’ve really gotten serious about research and then bought the expensive thing I’ve been happy but I’ve also avoided some big problems by researching first. Just don’t listen to influencers is the thing. If someone is selling you on baja lights and you like them then use that to start your research, don’t just jump into it. Expensive doesn’t always mean good so it’s best to research and wait.
Great video. I’ve used a lot of items that you showed and they definitely work plus they are easy to replace in ANY STATE
Yeah some Walmarts might have slightly more or less than other but for the most part in the warmer months they have a lot of this stuff.
The Ozark tent is a masterpiece! I've had it since 2019. I keep it with a ground tarp and nail stakes in a sea to submit bag. I've used it a minimum of 200 nights. From Norther Michigan, off sleeping bear dunes to coastal camping of the Gulf in Florida and the blue ridge mountains in North Carolina. It has held up to everything. No complaints.
This is coming from a backpacker who's go-to is a Zpacks Duplex and Tigerwall for free standing. Excellent recommendation on the tent 👍
I’m from those Blue Ridge mtns in NC. I used to ground tent and the. Hammock camp there all the time growing up. And yeah the ozark tent is great, I’ve got a bunch of stuff from them and I’ve been very happy with it.
I've bought some blocks from an RV shop to for a large travel trailer I use during hunting season. They can easily hold a overlanding vehicle and I highly recommend getting them to level your rig and tent setup instead of using recovery boards.
I may have to try that out. Most of the time I’m camping somewhere where I just want to get perfectly level because it’s close, but a few times I’ve had to use giant rocks that were luckily around because the whole camp site was way off.
LOVE the Buddy heater. I got the 12ft hose with a regulator so we could set a 20lb. tank outside the tent. Great video and series. Thank you!
Yeah we occasionally use our big tanks with the hose. Once we get a bigger roof top tent I think we will be able to do that more. The small tanks and refilling them work for us now.
I think if the hatchet had a 10mm on it it would go missing randomly when you need it...
Haha this living up to what a 10mm was made for. Somehow this hatchet would end up settling somewhere in the engine bay where I can’t reach it.

I live in the middle of nowhere Texas and our Wal Mart (35 miles up the road) has most, if not all of these things. Great video for folks without access to cool gear stores. We are hoping to get into some weekend overlanding and this was a great video. Thanks a bunch. 👊
Yeah I’m mostly a weekend overlander right now. Would love to do it longer but I have to mostly be in the office so oh well. That’s great that your Walmart has this stuff. Mine usually has more but I went the day after Fourth of July which is a big camping weekend up in the Rockies.
@@OXFOOT we just got back from a 5 day camping trip in Carson National Forest outside of Red River NM and it was a great campsite. Camping trips are my absolute favorite, especially in the mountains.
I try to do a few longer ones like that when I can. Maybe one day this UA-cam will replace my job and I can do them all the time. Pipe dream ha. That’s cool though I like that area a lot. I was looking at that area as a potential camp spot on a drive down to Dallas one time but it was just a little too out of the way.

@@OXFOOT we are about 90 miles south of Dallas. It takes us about 12 hrs to get to Red River and 14 to 16 hrs to get into the high country of Colorado. Our favorite spot to adventure in Colorado is around Summit County.

Yeah I obviously like my expensive stuff too, people always point out my tent in these budget videos, but a ton of stuff I have is cheap and works just fine.

Yeah on this and the harbor freight one I decided for the series it would be nice to have the price up front and personal so if you see something you like you’ll know right away if you think it’s worth it.
The coast head light is great 100% recommended, I have one for work one for fishing and one in my truck !

Yeah there’s probably something you can find at any retail location. I’ve found stuff at lowes, homedepot, target all over. Most of the stuff is store brand too.
We have an extensive camping section at our walmart. I've been eyeing those locking bins. Im gonna make a kitchen box. And that tin with the cups are high on the list!
Yeah I really like those bins a lot. Once I build a proper storage for my truck I’ll probably keep them around for storage in my shed as long as they last.
The Stanley cook set has a cult following if you didn’t know. It’s synonymous with bushcrafting & I was introduced to it in the Army. Been using the same one almost since 2004 I believe. Get it, mod it, use it, love it.
Yeah I had a knock off one before and it wasn’t quite as good. This one is actually my GFs Stanley cup container and I like this one way better.
I use mine as a camping cocktail shaker. Makes a great martini for two!

Yeah I would say for the most part I’ve been pretty happy with my stuff from them. Only a few have not been great and it seems like those have all been discontinued.
I have several cast iron pans, all over 100 yrs old. They can be found on Marketplace and garage sales, they're smooth and still like new, grab one when you come across one! Also. just two days ago I was watching another channel about equipment and the guy was steering everyone to high dollar gear (affiliate, of course) and the recovery gear bag he refered us to was over $350.00! Folks- that kind of thing drives up prices for everyone. There is a place for high-end gear, but c'mon! A Masons bag that actually sees extreme duty everyday, heavy canvas, leather bottom, can be had for $50.00. Be smart!! This is a great video, I do have a lot of gear from WalMart, thanks!

That’s funny a buddy and I were just talking the other day about the Hawaii Toyota culture and how it’s really big and no one from the mainland seems to crack into that market. Someone over here really should get into the offroad market there because I feel like it would be super profitable.

I have several sleeping bags that I use depending on the weather. I have one that is rated to -35*f and another rated to 0*f. I carry those two all the time plus a heavy wool blanket and a down blanket. I also have a Hennessy Hammock with all the winter goodies and a tent along with a cot and sleeping pad. I find with all of those options I have everything I need to camp in any place I’ve ever gone.
That’s basically all you need. I test a lot of stuff and I have a ton of stuff because of UA-cam but I did just fine back in the day with a hammock and a decent sleeping bag. Bring some sausages, Doritos and a decent amount of water and hike to a spot.
Farm and Home type stores are good too. Great video, thank you for producing it. Safe travels.

Yeah I love getting cheap stuff when I can. Don’t get me wrong I love my expensive stuff too but I can only afford that stuff because I buy the cheap stuff 99% of the time.

Yeah I’ve heard that from a few people. I love my fiskars axe so I could imagine the trail saw being pretty good.
I second going with the Fiskers. Also, if you have the room, Fiskers bow saw makes for some really quick cuts on larger pieces of wood.
I’ve actually been considering getting a bow saw for early season trail clearing… but also considering a chainsaw mounted to the roof for that ha.
Also the saw you showed was closer to the silky gomboy instead of the bigboy

I have the spork you shown, and I cannot tell you how much I use it! I work in the lineman industry, and I always keep one in my lunch box. My wife and I are dieting, and when I come home on Friday evenings, usually Saturday and Sunday morning at least I make different things to pack so I'm not eating junk foods. I use mine daily. I like them so much and how practically weightless they are, when I went to Montana last year hunting, I bought a few to toss in my hunting pack.
That's awesome. Yeah I love those spork/knife things. I used to have them as my only silverware in my apartment but when I moved in with my girlfriend she made me get real silverware haha.
Also...The trailfire lights are great, I run them on my enduro bike for night riding and they blow the trails up pretty well.
Nice! That’s awesome. I think I’m going to try those out. They look really good I just wish they didn’t have the big “ALPENA” on the front. Not that I want to confuse people I just don’t like big branding on my lights. It was my biggest complaint about the nilights I used to have.
When I was full timing in the Yampa Valley area, Walmart was all I had and I got a bunch of this stuff then. Good video buddy!

Yeah I think a lot of people had the same experience with the light blue ones. I hadn’t seen them in stores in a while and they used to be more common that the dark blue ones.

They have a new umbrella 6 person dome tent. $40 , water proof and fast to set up! Literally just pops up which is great if you get caught in 🌧

Go to Harbor Freight and grab moving blankets to lay on floor of tent .. and a tarp under tent plus a larger tarp over in case of heavy rain or hail.
That sounds just like how I grew up camping. It was either that or a pop up camping. I always had more fun with the blanket/tarp/cheap Coleman tent camping.

@@OXFOOT It’s cool & engaging stuff. Might even seem too obvious a subject to be interesting from your perspective, I assure you it’s interesting. For instance, I’ve been doing search & rescue stuff in the AZ desert recently in my F-150. It’s basically overlanding with a purpose. I was recently at Walmart looking at some of the same lights & vehicle gear & wondering if it would hold up. You gave me some perspective & I appreciate that. Looking forward to the Tractor Supply & Ace vids. 🇺🇸
You could take them flip led light switch things and Velcro them in your lockable storage bins under the lid so when you need something at night just flip it on when you open the lid
That’s a good idea. I thought about trying to rig something up that turns on when you open it like my fridge does but this is a much less invasive and time consuming. Sometimes the easiest way is the best.

Yeah I’ve been really happy with almost everything I’ve bought there, need to go back and check to see if they’ve got anything new.
If you have a large propane tank get the Buddy heater hose, and filter. They let you hook a large propane bottle directly to the Buddy heater, saves a ton of money, and time. We’ve been running three sizes of Buddy heaters in the winter for two years now, if you do get the hose turn the heater off by turning the propane tank off letting the flame burn out, then turn the heater off. Saves hoses and extends the life of filters, also keeps the internal working cleaner although they still need cleaning sometimes.
Yeah I think I may end up doing this if I end up getting a 5lb tank. I’ve done it before with the big ones but I just don’t really have the space to haul that. Now that I’m in the diesel heater game I haven’t used the buddy heater much but I still keep them just in case.
Good stuff thanks,Walmart and Harbor freight are great go to’s for cheep decent stuff.between the two I’ve found a lot of useful stuff that will get the job done.great way when you’re first starting out to find what stuff you use a lot for cheep then you can upgrade from there.
That’s how I did it. For years I only went with the Walmart stuff besides some one off stuff like my hammock. Years later now that I can afford stuff I occasionally still buy Walmart.
been using the yellow plastic tent stakes for years now.
the plastic sand stakes are very good for sand / beaches, even in steady sustained wind.
the ozark trail pocket saw is good.
the polymer Coast flashlite is good.
some locations have the Fiskars 14" hatchet for less than $25 and it is excellent.
Glad those plastic tent stakes work for you. Only reason I was iffy about them is that when I was a kid those used to break a lot but I also probably just didn’t keep up with my stuff back then.
I wish mine had the fiskars hatchet. I have a bunch of fiskars stuff and nothing I’ve had of theirs has been bad so far.
I have that Luci light, the thing I really like about it is that it's both USB and solar rechargeable. I bought it for a recent camping trip, and it made a great tent light, and also I was able to prop it up on the stand and use it as a reading light while in my sleeping bag.
After watching this, I realize I have a lot of stuff from Walmart as well. Even those nail type tent pegs that you noted, I have a bunch of those, and my tent is from Walmart as well, a dome style easy up.
Yeah it’s funny that I even realized after this video went up that I even have some coolers and some other stuff from them I completely forgot about. I always forget that I bought these things over the years but by bit and a lot of it came from Walmart. Most of it has held up very well.
Also great news about that light. I have so many lights now that I have no need to buy this one but I trust that LUCI name.
@@OXFOOT yeah, A friend of mine has one of the Luci's that are solar powered, the inflatable ones. She likes it a lot, but sometimes being only solar-powered is a little difficult. So I like this one, it's the best of both worlds. I decided I wanted all my lighting to be usb-rechargeable, I bought a rechargeable headlamp from Walmart as well, though it's a different brand from the one that you found.
I bought my cooler there as well, I got one of those Lifetime 55 quarts for a hundred bucks, used it a few times and it does a nice job. It was actually 10 bucks cheaper on Walmart dot com than the store, and when I showed them they happily matched the price.
@@trailrunnah8886 yeah I just have the soft coolers that ozark trail makes. It was pretty nice and as long as I wasn’t out for days at a time the cooler worked fine.

From my personal experience: not everything, but most gear that is ultra cheap is either going to fail at some point or not perform as it should. I would not cheap out on things like tent, sleeping mattress and sleeping bag, as these items are part of your shelter and if they fail you might end up in a life threatening situation. On the other hand, do you have to buy a $700 sleeping bag for a North Pole expedition, no. REI offers some of their own stuff which is nothing to brag about, but I found it to be a slightly more dependable gear than Walmart and their return policy on things is one of the best on the market.
Another great place is a local Army/Navy store! Great finds there!

buddy heater is a must in my opinion I was on a October elk hunt near Walden CO and a storm came through and temp dropped to -17 it took the chill off well worth the money. everyone think they need the best top of the line gear and a lot of people are pulling out of the hobby due to the crazy prices a good military surplus store has some good stuff for reasonable prices.

Yeah Walmart isn’t my first choice or even second but so far everything I’ve bought from them I’ve been really happy with.

We tent camped w kids for years entirely w Walmart gear and had a blast….now that I can afford it I own plenty of REI gear and my kids and wife are older and want nothing to do with camping. Just go enjoy the outdoors with whatever gear you can afford…having fun is what it’s all about.
For sure. I was broke like no other in college camping and would just own Walmart stuff for all the basics. I still buy some of that stuff now but I do like to treat myself to nice stuff now that I can afford it.
A little 5 lbs propane tank is usually perfect for most needs and they are around 50 bucks and takes based on where you live 10 buck to fill

Yeah we do have some pretty good Walmart’s here. This was in evergreen. The one on colfax is pretty good too be I’ve had some of the wildest stuff happen in that parking lot. Met up with some buddies to go offroading there and got chased by some random guy with a wheel lock. Weird.

My Walmart in Texas had an ozark battery bank space heater about the size of a small paper shredder. 4 levels of heat and fan speed and you can card a couple of devices. Only used it once when my apartment lost power when it was 15 degrees outside. I haven't yet fully tested it.
Yeah I wonder how well that would work with a tent that allows cool air to seem through the material and heat to seep out. Really cool concept, haven’t seen it in my local one.
@@OXFOOT If you had a tent that kept most of the warmth or wool blanket then definitely, trying to find the product they rebranded. All I need now is a good solar panel.
I used the tire repair kit 4 times in one day/outing. Worked great. Stopped at les schwab the next day and got everything professionally patched up. I bout 2 more packs just yo have on hand.

I will browse the outdoors area just to see if there is something new.Sometimes they will have a product for a limited time,I guess as a trial run. My brother got a rechargeable flashlight with a built in bug zapper and can be used as a power bank. They have not had them since.
Yeah I think they have stuff like that because either the product wasn’t the best so they had returns and then move it to the online store, or the profit margins just weren’t there. So maybe that product you’re talking about can still be found on their online store. I’m sure in a year some of the stuff I talked about will move online if they just don’t sell.
That sounds cool though. I’m currently looking for a power bank device for larger items. I’ve got a small one for my phone now.
As far as saws, go to lawn and garden . Fiskers makes good folding saws.

Hey man! Loved the video, had a lot of good points showing how much Walmart actually has, I think it’s great trying to share that with people so they can get into the scene more. That being said, there are two points I really want to harp on that I think you may have forgotten to shed more light on. The first being that the Buddy heaters are rated for indoor use, but inside a house does have ventilation and big enough air spaces for it to be rated as safe. If you are using this inside of a tent or car, you NEED to have a window open or something so there is some sort of ventilation, and a carbon monoxide detector is imperative as well. Those rigs still do burn propane and it is toxic to our bodies and can kill someone in their sleep if left going in an unventilated area. Secondly, the nozzle you showed that helps refill the smaller propane tanks from a larger one may seem neat and save some money, but those videos saying it is not recommended and is dangerous are there for a reason. You need a license to refill propane bottles and follow a course on how to do it properly because if you fuck that up, you will harm yourself at best, worst case killing yourself in the process because that crap does explode easily.
With you being a content creator you have to be careful with what you say on these subjects unfortunately. People can take you serious or some don’t want to research much and could take what you say and get themselves killed if you and them are not careful, you with what you say, and then with what they do.
Anyways, that’s my two cents. I really appreciate the videos man and keep up the good work. Just wanted to get on you for those two things but other then that keep rocking it brotha! :)
I very much have a video coming soon on this exact subject. Luckily these things have a shut off valve if there isn’t enough oxygen so worst case if you don’t vent it, it’ll shut off before it produces CO, but when it comes to that kind of stuff I always make sure to have built in layers of protection in case one thing fails, all my other fail safes would have to fail in order for it to be a problem. I.E. always bring a detector with me, always put the buddy heater on a board or something flat, always ventilate, etc.
The refillable one is a controversial one for sure some people have mentioned the same thing and I’m aware of their warning labels. Some people are cautious about it and others say they’ve been doing it for years and years. What I’ve gathered about it is that the company is putting that there to say “don’t transport these” so that if there are any issues they can say that you didn’t follow their rules. That being said, if someone feels uncomfortable doing it, they actually make refillable ones but from everything I’ve seen they are the same thing. My guess is the build it out a bit stronger and market them towards people doing this who knows what they are doing and are willing to take the risk but are worried about the warning label.
It’s not a recommendation that people do this, it’s a recommendation that they research it. But that being said I’ll have a video soon on the propane heater after I knock a few more videos out.
The compact battery jumper packs would be ideal over jumper cables. It's saved me and others a few times since ive owned one.
Yeah that’s not a bad idea. I’d feel a lot safer with that than relying on another person to jump me.

With the cheaper Chinese made knives and hatchets - make sure the paracord that it comes with is actually paracord and not just generic rope they called paracord. Which is often what they put in the kit because it’s cheaper
Yeah I think the best way to do it is just buy a skeleton or unwrap what’s there and do it yourself. About to buy a skeleton frame knife soon and I’ll be wrapping my own parachord. But if you check and make sure it’s real parachord then it’s a good buy.
Have to say, I personally own the 10 in 1 multi tool wallet thing, and every time I open a bottle or use it I’m so glad I have it 😂 never cut myself and forget I even have it

For cast iron check out yard sales and estate sales, pawn shops, the used stuff is better sometimes. Watch the prices though there are some expensive antique cast out there.
I agree. I’ve had my cast iron for nearly 10 years now and it’s much better than if I bought some random one off the shelf now. Buying use cast iron is the opposite experience of buying most used cookware.

-5 F is -20 C... even in Canada that's a cold temperature to be camping in...so those heaters are definitely worth the money.
Yeah it keeps you warm pretty low if your tent is relatively small and can contain the heat from the heater plus the emergency blanket. It was a freak cold and we weren’t expecting temps that low. Only downside is that it’s more of a wetter heat than let’s say a diesel heater so there’s a bit more condensation.
I know it is only a couple bucks, but if you go to the hardware section they have the same packages of paracord cheaper than the ones in sporting goods

Go to lawn an garden get the fiskars folding saw instead of the o.t. saw for a little more money. The o.t. saw binds when cuttin due to it have single row of teeth. The fiskars is double row.
I live my fiskars axe and si far I’ve been really happy with their stuff. My cutting tool has double rows and has been Greta but it’s some random amazon one. Maybe the double ones are the way to go. Thanks for the advice.

The ranch hex cut outs on that hatchet blade are just about worthless, because you have to maneuver the tool into the right position, which is hard enough with the socket set extenders etc.
Yeah I think they would only really be great in an absolute emergency but even then they wouldn’t be great. I’d rather hammer that thing to fit in a tight space in an emergency than not have one… but yeah this isn’t something I use or plan on using.
I will agree with you on don't think you have to go to all the name brand stores. Many of us "Old Timers" at camping and "with a vehicle's" didn't have REI, Cabela's, and what not around. I'm not dumping on them but expect to pay 1/3 or more for the same thing. I'll recommend to skip the cheapest Stansport mess kit or camp set, I tried them to out it was a one time use. The handle came fell off and it's to thin of metal (IMHO) and everything burns in it from hot spots.
Yeah I grew up camping and my dad always had stuff he bought when he was in college so I was using the oldest technology. I still use some stuff of his. I had a phase where I bought a bunch of REI stuff but once I realized money can be spent in other areas better I went right back to the old cheap ways again. It’s a little more work doing research but I’ll gladly take that over paying double.

Gerber was “not that great” for a while but they are definitely coming back around and going to be miles ahead of those knives you showed from harbor freight. For gerber I would just watch out for lower steel quality on some of their knives but for the most part they are actually pretty good.
Yeah for sure, I actually have some stuff from Gerber back when they did some sort of co branding with Bear Grylls. Some of the stuff has been really great but the knife they did with him was so awful I’ve held a bit of contempt for them over it. I’d be totally willing to give them another shot though.
I could also have just had a lemon knife from them and maybe the rest were good.

I tested that saw next to my fiskars saw and it was horrible, I think I had something like 19-20 swipes to cut a branch with the ozark and it took about 10-12 on the fiskars
That was brand new Ozark saw vs. 3 year old Fiskars saw that was really used.
Yeah that’s not great. I don’t think it would be awful as a back up but I really like fiskars products. I have their axe and I keep having to buy more because people keep stealing them. Need to find a way to get it secured on the rig.

Yeah I think I’ll have to try those lights and compare them to the baja S2s. They are pretty clearly a clone of those lights but at 1/4 the price.
question...Toyota Engineers say max static/dynamic roof weight for 4Runner is 120 lbs unless it has a sunroof and then its 20% less...roof rack, tent, solar panel must weigh 500 lbs, what am i missing???
I guess it really depends on how heavy the tent and all that stuff are. I think most rooftop tents are around 150-250 lbs and about the same or less for a roof rack. I don't have a rack on mine its just uses the factory mounting holes and the tent is about 135 I believe. I would say you probably aren't wrong that a lot of people are going beyond that on theirs though I'f they are stuffing a bunch of stuff up there.

Use a metal match and Petrolium jelly soaked cotton balls for starting fires. Packs small, weatherproof, will start instantly in any conditions and burns for a few minutes (plenty long to get a fire started). Matches and lighters are unreliable, and nearly every "firestarter" product out there I've used are a waste of money. Go with the simple method that will always work.
Yeah I actually made those one time and they worked really well. I usually am able to start a fire without any firestarter or soaked qtips but I guess I just bought the firestarter once as a back up and still have it because I’ve never really needed it and don’t want to toss it out for no reason.
That being said maybe I need to make those qtips again.

That’s really strange. It’s probably because your body heat passes right through it because it’s mostly air. Like sleeping in a hammock. I’m not scientist though, just a guess.

Yeah that’s not necessarily the closest one to me (colfax is) but I still prefer going to evergreen.
The cheaper Chinese cast iron can crack and break, especially if exposed to temperature extremes. I just stick to Lodge.
All of my cast iron I have outside of the blackstone stuff is lodge. You can buy the cheap stuff and maybe it’s fine but lodge is trusted, and it’s only a few bucks more.

Thank you for the video and your good intentions but you have to understand something that maybe you haven't think about... Even the big chain stores don't carry the same products, it all goes by different cities and the demand for certain products, for example... here in Miami, Fl there isn't a single Walmart that sells the Mr. Buddy Heater and a whole bunch of other camping equipment you may find in your city, but here in Miami, any local Walmart will carry all the fishing poles and lures you can imagine even boat parts and accessories.....🤷♂️
I do understand this but I guess that since the online store has to the store store delivery worst case you could order it online to deliver to store (usually free). Maybe I’ll have to go more in depth in that next time. I’m pretty sure on the next one it’ll be like tractor supply or something, I’ll mention more at the beginning that most of this stuff will be same from store to store but not all of it. If you live somewhere else you may have to order it online and ship it to store. I guess where I came from in North Carolina we had big camping sections like we do here in Denver but the Appalachian mountains were only an hour away so that could be why we had similar set ups. I’ll try to be more clear about that in the next one but I do appreciate the feedback.

Very true. However, ordering from Walmart, while not as convenient, is still less of a hassle. I can order the heater on their site. Have it delivered to my home, or the store….usually both free of charge. Handy if package thieves are common in your area. Now here’s where it REALLY nice, if I don’t like the item I just return it at Walmart. No repackaging, no printing return labels, no taking it to a UPS/fedex store. Add to that Walmart has one of the lowest-hassle return policies in the country.

Scrap the cast iron and go with a carbon steel pan. it will cook like cast iron and is lighter.
I’ll have to look into that. I’ve been using cast iron in one way or another since I was a kid. Open to try new stuff though.
I tend to agree. I've been a cast iron fan forever and spend a lot of effort maintaining the interiors of my skillets but have decided to cut weight like a backpacker lately. I realized I was lazy using the Jeep to carry too much.

I braid things for a side hustle so i usually order online in 500ft + rolls but when i need a color now for a quick job thats my go to. Also look on here for storage ideas. I keep mine stored in a water bottle in my 4runner. Less tangles when u need to use it
That saw is garbage and will make you mad just using it. Get a Silky, they're $50 or less, you'll have it forever and they work great. Great video.

Getting quality gear doesn't happen all at once unless you hit the lottery, or max out your credit cards and spend years paying those off with interest. It takes years to build a quality kit or a quality rig. Almost everybody with a quality setup really fails to point that out, which leads to folks thinking they've been left out, or that it's impossible. It's not impossible, it just takes a really long time. But quality gear is totally worth the sacrifice.
Yeah at this point most of the stuff that I have from Walmart is my back up or my backup’s backup. But I had to start somewhere. I started collecting and retiring stuff over the years since I was a teen making like $8 an hour. Now I’ve got nice things but talk about some of the cheap stuff I have and people think it’s a contradiction. Basically, I ate Taco Bell until I had chipotle money.
