    finally a realistic video about gear. Man, i hate those "build your survival kit" for wallmart videos... Nice job Sir

  • @walterbryan1798
    @walterbryan1798 8 місяців тому +8

    11:15 HEY! Read this! I was given a survival kit (presumably from Amazon) with tons of goodies in it. One of the things was a 3-in-1 knife: glass breaker, seatbelt cutter, and knife.
    Mr and a buddy wanted to test out the glass breaker and seatbelt cutter on some junk cars (at my work).
    The knife was sharp, but the seatbelt cutter didn’t work (the blade was straight instead of being mounted at an angle like in a letter opener). The glass breaker DID not work. Both of us wailed on a few different pieces of auto glass with no result. The only result we could actually get was the flattening out of the metal glass breaker tip itself.
    If you have any survival stuff, like this, go try it out somewhere (responsibly) before your life depends on it.
    That is all.

    • @ghoulslayer__7746
      @ghoulslayer__7746 21 день тому

      Another thing to look for if you are getting a knife with a glass breaker is make sure its not just one metal all the way to the tip. Those usually end up like what happened in your scenario. You'd want to look for a carbide tip (usually a dark brown/tan color) or some form of hardened steel. I wholeheartedly support going to some place to make sure your glass breaker works. Some junkyards may allow you to break some of the glass on car windows, some you have to pay, some dont care. Stay safe!

    Hey i wanna add to the fire extinguisher thing. Keep a fire extinguisher in your off-road vehicle regardless of if you intend to start a fire. You’re working your vehicle (typically) harder than the factory intended and that (along with other circumstances) could lead to a vehicle fire. Keep your fire extinguisher within your reach and always have an ABC rated extinguisher. That will extinguish combustibles, flammable liquids, and electrical fires.

    The Apache boxes work great. Been using the 4800’s for years now. We use the road shock lights in all sizes and they are great however we are picky on lighting temperatures and stick to 6-6500k. The road shock cubes with the side lights are pretty yellow and are more like 5-5500k. Just fyi.

    I've got that hammock. Works well, you can tell the material quality isn't up to par with my ENO but what do you expect for 15 dollars? My only tripe with it is the tree straps have very few loops so you have limited adjustment. The ENO straps are far better and worth the cost.
    On the generator front, for camping. Pick up an Inverter Generator with an ECO mode. These are incredibly quiet and fuel efficient. They aren't much larger than some of the big battery banks. They produce more than enough power for a campsite. If I was going out for an extended time and given my experience trying to go straight solar, I would probably borrow or one break down and buy one and take it with me.

    I own that 4 1/2 lb axe. I'd unwrap and inspect the blade in the store because they are of varying quality and I would especially inspect the handle. It is a very heavy axe and will tire you out really quick if you are remotely out of shape or don't cut wood often. I honestly think it is more of a felling axe than a splitting axe but it will split some fairly large logs (18 inch long x 8+ inches) really easily in a single stroke so it's overkill for camping.
    The 2nd gordon knife looks a lot like a knife kershaw made back in the day called the breakout (I still own mine)

Instead of buying cheap products and carrying around all the extra weight and taking up all the extra space… i’ve always tried to buy a quality products that require not having to have backups.
    Buying a backup for things like a hatchet often seems unnecessary… but that’s just me.

    I can't give this more than one thumb up, so here is a comment to improve your engagement metrics haha
    In all seriousness, there are a few items you showed that I didn't know Harbor Freight carries so I'll just have to make a trip to the store to see if I can get them locally :D

      @OXFOOT  Рік тому +1

      I appreciate it! Thanks. That being said it’s likely a lot of this stuff will be at yours but there will be some variation from different locations. Like if I went to one in florida it may have beach stuff that mine doesn’t. Fingers crossed yours is set up like the ones around me.

    Hang on hang on, all duct tape is not the same, cheap duct tape and good duct tape are two VERY different things

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  Рік тому +1

      Yeah I clarify that a bit more in the part about the gorilla tape. Duct tape in general is about the same compared to some other tapes but comparing one duct tape to another is a huge difference.

    • @swgard1
      @swgard1 Рік тому +1

      @@OXFOOT I was talking more along the lines of the difference between the good regular duct tape that is a step below gorilla tape and the cheap type of duct tape which is more comparable to masking tape in my opinion, but fair point.

      @@OXFOOT no no. I wasn’t expecting you to buy the stuff. I just assumed that you already had the stuff on your truck. I wanted to see how it was set up on your truck. I have a 97T100SR54x4 and I was just trying to get an idea how it might look and function with the gear.

    harbor freight was great when it was cheap Chinese junk, now it's expensive Chinese junk, same crap but now they think they're a special boutique store.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  Рік тому +1

      Yeah I feel like things have really gone up the last few years. I still like the store though, just not as cheap as it used to be.

      Uhh what kind of pull do you think I have? Lmao. I’ve got 30K subs I’m not getting harbor freight paid deals… this is an entire series I’ve done with Home Depot, Walmart, tractor supply etc. to show people you don’t have to go buy the most expensive overland gear when you can find stuff in your town.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  9 місяців тому +2

    Not Bashing Harbor freight. But I have one I can Walk to and they don't EVER have 💩 in it !! It'll have 20 different kinds of Tarps and Power washers or Machetes. But never anything useful like this stuff
