With no experience whatsoever, this video helped me fix my dryer and saved me hundreds of dollars. I was ready to buy an new dryer until I found this. Many many thanks!
I randomly selected a dryer repair kit online in hopes that I could fix (zero experience) my Kenmore dryer that sounded like it had boots in it. The bottom drum roller had so much hair wrapped around the axle that it could barely spin. The drum wore a flat spot in that roller, but it would spin about every three seconds, and the drum would thud on the flat spot. This video came in handy as I forgot how to route the belt around the tensioner. Thank you for sharing it.
Just fixed my old squeaky Kenmore. Not sure I would even have attempted it without this video. Following your instructions, I had it done in under an hour. THANK YOU for taking the time to post this!! 👍👍👍
Yo you found 52 since I didn't count mine but I was over. $1.00 😂😂😂 thank you I have an Kenmore 600 series had it for 10 years ..just gave it dryer tune up today and it felt like I was right there with you we'll you with me and you video walked me all the way theu thank you so much
Thanks so much for this video, kept referencing the step by step process as I was working on my dryer which was so great. My dryer no longer squeaks and is working great.....thanks again.
Thank you for the video. I thought we were going to buy a new dryer. We saw your video, ordered $20 in new parts, with $10 shipping. We followed your steps and our dryer is whisper quiet again.
Excellent video! Many thanks! I’m a big proponent of older units, properly maintained, they’ll last forever. I cannot say the same of the newer, fancy models. They don’t make em like they used to. Thanks for helping me keep mine goin!
Many thanks for this one. The door switch clip was really making me mad on this one. The drum was also backwards. I appreciate the time you took to show how easy it is. Was about to throw in the towel!
Very good video! To the point, good camera work and no BS. This guy tells you exactly what you need to know without attempting to entertain. Refreshing and informative. Nobody works on a damned dryer for ENTERTAINMENT! If you do, you need a new life. Thanks again, b
Excellent! I replaced the belt/drum pulley assembly on my dryer about 10 years ago due to a broken belt; it has since developed an occasional squeak. The roller wheel assemblies are original and were only shop-vac'd to remove dust during the pulley replacement. Looks like I'll be following your procedure to address this issue. Good work on the video,
Great job on the video!! If it were me all you would have heard is beeeeep as I know you had a few moments that you were (or did) go off lol. If you do this again, A little tip to help with the drum. Before you remove the pulleys lock a pair of vise grips on the drums back lip to the back of the dryer. Not that it;s a must but it kind of makes it easier on the replacement so you have both hands to align the belt and idler pulley while you're underneath.
Great video. I thought my belt broke. Found out it was the pulley on the motor. Messed up the belt and found the tensioner on the floor on the other side. Wow
My dryer must've been pretty old, the tensioner was just a smooth piece of plastic -- no roller of any sort. Got you beat on the loot though, $2.53 and a foam earplug. Thanks for the video, wasn't sure how to get the rollers off. My felt strip was the big problem, wore out to the point there was metal-on-metal and the drum didn't want to spin even with an intact belt.
What an amazing video. My tensioner popped off and I'm about to open her up tomorrow...Thank you sir, if you're ever in the Saskatchewan, Canada area - I owe you a beer...Or 12!
After having come back from camping at the lake with 5 loads of laundry to do, we are now up and running BECAUSE of this AMAZING video. I had to temporarily bypass the thermal fuse (have some coming from Amazon), but now we're at least doing the loads we needed to. Thank you, my savior.
Excellent tutorial for both belt replacement and squeak fix. I have that squeak issue too. This is the only UA-cam video that addresses that fix. Would you recommend adding a little electric shaver oil to the roller shafts? I'm sure the shafts on my dryer are just as dirty as yours were. This is my first attempt at fixing a Kenmore dryer belt. It looks super easy to do. I just hope to fix the squeak too as it drives me nuts hearing it.
My brother-in-law disassembled his dryer to replace the belt. The tension pully fell off and he had no idea how to put it on. It only took a few minutes viewing this video for me to reassemble his dryer correctly.
Thank you for this! Once I got going, it was pretty simple. Putting the old machine back together? No so much. It's very old and the front clips have corroded. :( It runs, but I'm going to have to find help to re-assemble it.
CAUTION! First, several inexpensive makes/models are covered by this video; a lot of them are laid out the same. Mine's a Maytag. Once you have all the parts in and your belt on , do NOT roll the drum by hand in opposite direction of the way it's designed to turn. Mine runs counter-clockwise, (I'm sure all do) looking from front. After I got the belt where I wanted it, checked everything, I rolled it once more but in the wrong direction and this caused my belt to run off of the tensioner. I didn't catch this before putting on the panel and turning it on. I shredded my belt but not too badly. Made a bad noise. Took a short while to figure out. I don't know if other makes/models do this, but I wouldn't test the theory.
Had a squeal on Whirlpool. Discovered it was one roller. I ordered a replacement kit, but in the mean time I lubed said roller with WD-40. Worked like a charm. No more squealing. Just a note for those who may need a quick fix due to no parts on hand.
@@michaelchopper7317 I did disassemble to the point of the drum being removed. This gives you good access to the rollers. My sqeaky one was the lower one, the one he's working on here 5:38. I did NOT have to disassemble the roller though. The roller was stiff when moved. I sprayed straight into the center of the roller where the bearing is at the front and back. It then became very smooth when operated. Put it all back together. I don't think you can get in there to spray where you need to without removing the drum. If it's the upper roller, maybe..... It's easy to remove drum though, my dryer is very similar to the one in the video. If yours is, follow his instructions and you'll be fine.
I have some footage where I found one very tight also due to some hair wound in the roller. I'll maybe get it posted sometime. Thanks for the comments!
@@ssmonte8738 Thank you for the video!! Yeah, my lube job didn't last long. It started squealing again after about a cumulative 2 hours of use. So I went ahead and changed out all the components as you did.
About a year after this video I had it apart for a different problem and sliced my thumb open to the tune of 6 stitches. The heating element housing is quite sharp.
That was a perfect repair demonstration except curious why no high-temp grease on the wheel spindles? I understand grease can attract dirt but I think the school of thought could go either way as far as how fast they wear out. Is the tub light on order? Subbed!
Thank you for the instruction! After installing the new rollers/belt/idler pully we are still getting a thumping noise. Checked to ensure rollers were spinning and drum was in place, looks ok and spins easily by hand, but still a thump thump. At a loss what is causing it?
My ol lady said she was goin to ask about the dryers and the problem… I went out and found the wheels for the drum, and I came home. She had a brand new Samsung washer and dryer. 😭 and I pulled the 38$ parts out of my bag. We ended up repairing it and selling a “like new” Kenmore 400 series 😏
Yo is this an electric dryer cause I didn’t see the burner in there. Isn’t it located on the left side of the dryer because there wasn’t anything there. Just saying.
All the belt videos I watch say put the ribbed side against drum. My belt is ribbed on both sides. One side is smooth and the other is abrasive, but both have ribs. Which side goes against the drum?
I don't know if it will matter that much. It needs to grip the drive pulley and the drum. The ribs will grip the drive pulley and the drum will be gripped no matter what due to the massive belt contact area.
Good video. I noticed several other folks put the drum on and then the tensioner pulley. You put the pulley in first. I like your method best since there’s so little room to navigate once that drum is sitting in there. It’s a minor observation but I was curious why the big repair shop videos all seem to do it the hard way? Any thoughts? Thanks for the video.
My dryer sounds like a horror movie screeching/yelling and my trusty repairman is booked up for 3 weeks. Either I'm replacing everything suspect or buying a new one. It's gotta be 15 years old now and tired of frequent repairs with set.
This was the only video that actually showed the whole process of opening the dryer. I had no idea where to start.
With no experience whatsoever, this video helped me fix my dryer and saved me hundreds of dollars. I was ready to buy an new dryer until I found this. Many many thanks!

I'm going to replace the tensioner wheel, cuz it squeaks, should I replace the bracket and belt while I'm at it, its a old maytag???
Generally it comes as an assembly, and usually with a belt also. They are pretty cheap to replace since you are in there anyway.

The same components failing? That is why I hesitate to endorse a certain brand. I believe most of the cheap replacements aren't worth installing.
