Cackling inside! "Everything you need can be found at the link below!" $650 and one tutorial later and you've got a wet formed leather sheath for a box knife! Seriously, all the tutorials I've seen on this channel are great. Chuck breaks things down really simply. I used his tutorial on a standard knife sheath. I've never touched leather before 5 days ago, but I've now got a beautiful sheath even though I used cheap stuff. I'm planning on slowly building up my supply of quality tools from Weaver so that my husband and I can be a team, with me lovingly encasing the knives he makes in beautiful leather. Thank you, Chuck.
Good video. This is the first tutorial of yours that I have watched straight through. I learned quite a bit. I am a Surgical Technician, and there are times that a knot being tied, is a bit of a reach. Seeing you tie it, tensioning the string with your finger, is exactly the way it's tied off in the Operating Room. I'm currently starting my 11th of 12 rounds of chemo for pancreatic cancer, and your videos are a great way to keep myself occupied.
This guy is smart, kind, and a decent teacher. If you want to learn leathercraft well, and with a bit of humor, and meanwhile with all the tips you need and reminders you need at the right time--for instance 10:40 he reminds us to trim our nails or keep them away from the leather...for those who want TL:DR version...just subscribe, you won't be sorry.
Great project. Stitching in a Leather belt loop on the back before you assemble makes a good alternative to a belt clip. That's how I made it this afternoon and it worked very well.
Chuck... you are a leather craft hero! Perhaps even a Bob Ross of the world of leather! Love watching the way you teach to better understand leather, as well all your tips and tricks!
His tutorials are so easy to follow and he always explains why he is doing what he does in a very easy to understand way that makes it all come together. Thanks Chuck!
What I really love about these videos is that not only do you use simple techniques that have great results and are easy to learn, but it's basically the exact same tools for all projects. So I'd buy a handful of good tools, and can use them to make pretty much anything I want. A couple of tricks shown in a different video also make me think I can finally make use of all that scrap leather I got gifted in a big bag.
I have watched this like 8 times. I have this box cutter Stanley 99e. When I had a knife sheath, it was my most used tool. Now I can't find a sheath anywhere. I am now going to make this one. Thanks bud.
I have been wanting to try wet molding for some time but I have seen some over complicated techniques. Your technique is very simple and the end result is great! I know what my next project will be. Thanks for your very good instruction. I really like all your videos.
Great!!!! I really appreciate Chuck's fantastic delivery and quite functional teaching method. Now I want to get a shoulder and get going on some veg tan. Warm regards Jennie
I never feel so motivated as much as watching this man doing this amazing stuff with such an ease . I am so relaxed while watching this video like a was meditating . God bless you mind sir . I will sustainly be back for more of this good energy
Michael W Wow. New viewer. Hope you are proud of it! Hey I'm even proud of you and don't even know ya. Thank You! Very informative and so well done. Look forward to watching them all.
Excellent video. Just tried my hand at wet forming a few days ago, and sure could have used some of these tips! I'm going to revisit, I think, and put this to use.
Another great video Chuck. The only thing I do differently is attach the clip prior to stitching which I find to be a bit easier for me although if you zone out while stitching the thread can get caught on the clip.
Nice and simple, well explained. This will work for handguns, Magazines, Knives, or anything one wants to carry on their belt. with a little bit of imagination it carries over to purses, boxes etc. one only needs a few tools and they can do amazing work.
Thank you Chuck....as you probably know we here in the United Kingdom are on virus lock down....I have a small workshop that I am going to make stuff in to avoid lock down insanity...your video`s have given me inspiration ....I have the vegetable tan leather and tools arriving soon and reccon. you have taught me a lot ....very concise and informative even down to the tools to use.
Chuck, my daughter's boyfriend is a chippy (builder) and mentioned that a Stanley knife (that's what we call them in Australia) sheath would be very useful. I followed your instructions but used a straight leather belt loop instead) and it worked a treat. Great instructions and a great result. Thanks. Now I've just got to find something at my house that he can fix in return. ;-)
I couldn´t find a sheath with a clip for my multitool that I liked so now i made one by myself. The fit is spot on and for the first time I think it works and looks pretty nice. Thank you Chuck !
I have been using a box knife since I started doing leather work. The new standard blades are not sharp enough for the kind of work I do.I always sharpen my blades, starting with a 220G sand paper then move to a 320G,next a 400G next a 600G and finish with a leather strop and jewelers rouge.I can get ten times the life out of my blades this way. I make a lot of gun holsters and so I make matching mag pouches at the same time and I use the same technique Chuck is using here to make them. Great job Chuck!Very good and easy to follow video!
Great to see you back Chuck .I find that we are of like minds when it comes to choice of cutting tool I started using it not knowing I should be using a cutting tool that said for leather cutting . I have since purchased every leather cutting knife there is but still go back to the box cutter. Happy trails
I'm just now finding an interest in this craft. This video is very detail oriented, and this is a super helpful and well produced vid! I have several projects in store and appreciate your experience.
Great materials, great tools, great presenter, great tips... Am I missing something? Yeah, I love that magnetic tack hammer. I'm still gathering my tools to start working. Big fan of your videos, Sir!...
The only “improvement” I’d make is to coat the inside / “rough” (flesh) sides of both pieces - after dying, but prior to assembly - with Fiebings Tankote, which kind of hardens and waterproofs those surfaces. If The sheath is never going to see weather, as could be the case for a box knife sheath like this that may only ever be used indoors, this doesn’t really matter, but for a survival knife or other ‘outdoor’ sheath, it’s a key step. Just don’t put any Tankote on the surfaces you’re going to cement together. Those need to be dry leather. And roughen up the smooth grain-side surface before gluing it. Another good tip Chuck gave in this video, which people might miss, is the value of a fairly weak set of inexpensive clamps. I have made the mistake of clamping my cemented edges with too-strong clamps before and they squish the cement out too much and make too tight of a seam, which actually makes for a weaker bond than one that allows a certain amount of cement to remain between the two layers. You want firm, but not crushed. Love your vids, Chuck!
Awesome video, thank you for teaching me about the proper way of working leather to make a knife case. I'll definitely save this video an order from your company. I have always said, having the correct tool to use will show in your final projects. So I'll need to get several leather tools to do what you did and since I really like your how to videos, I'll order the tools from you. Thank you again.
Great video. I'm working on a drop point knife kit (I only need to make the scales) right now that came with a fairly shapeless leather sheath. Now I think I'll be able to fit the sheath around the handle. Gotta say, I didn't think that the 1/2 hr video would be watchable, but you held my interest the whole time. Thanks!
Chuck is one of the best presenters on yt. better than most tv guys.
Bruno R. B. Silva yes I agree.
@Ernesto Westin You're right, we don't give a shit. Reporting as spam.
Better with decaf. ;>)

I love how Chuck SHOWS you how to make a pattern for things! Very easy to understand and I love to watch him make stuff!

You have the most solid sounding table I have heard a leather worker use lol.
That marble tooling slab under my cutting board is a huge help!
The leather craft cement is strangely strong. Well put.
Chuck is a leather crafting Badass! Best teacher on UA-cam.
Thats Awesome Mate.
Yeah, Chuck's got the common sense and know how to show and do. Always like these videos.

I love this guys energy! Most intense leather worker on UA-cam! 😂
I'm currently making a wet molded sheath for my Leatherman and am now realizing there was a MUCH easier way. Man, experience speaks

You're welcome. Thank you for wathcing!
I just started working with leather this year and have learned a lot from watching Chuck. I just wish I started leather working years ago
Great project. Stitching in a Leather belt loop on the back before you assemble makes a good alternative to a belt clip. That's how I made it this afternoon and it worked very well.
I've learned all of this stuff already, but sometimes I just want to hear Chuck show me how it's done. He's got a really great energy.
Chuck... you are a leather craft hero! Perhaps even a Bob Ross of the world of leather! Love watching the way you teach to better understand leather, as well all your tips and tricks!
Thank you so much, so gad the videos are helpful!
Chuck i saw another crafter use a vacuum bag to mold his leather worked great. I have a food saver vacuum sealer and it works amazing for wet molding.
Wow! Get's right into it with concise and easy to follow instructions. Well done.
His tutorials are so easy to follow and he always explains why he is doing what he does in a very easy to understand way that makes it all come together. Thanks Chuck!
Always enjoy watching your videos Chuck. You explain things simply for those of us who have none or minimal leather experience.
Thank you, I'm so glad the videos are easy to understand!

That's awesome, glad it turned out well for you!
@@WeaverLeatherSupply Yes it did. The second one not so much but I am still learning. 😊
Why not set the clip and rivet first and put another piece of 2oz over the whole back piece so you won't have steel rubbing on aluminum?

Awesome project Chuck. Many thanks. I've just started a new job in a warehouse. Will be making this sheath at the weekend.

Hi, nice seeing you and have a nice 2020.

Great presentation , like always
Excellent tutorial as usual Chuck!
So fun to watch! Lots of great tips. Thank you!
Really enjoy these videos, and I'm loving the backing track too. Thanks, Chuck ...
This is excellent! I was wondering the other day if there was a video where Chuck went over how to make one of these. Thank you and Happy New Year!
Thank you and Happy New Year to you as well, Ed!
Awesome work, thanks for the info! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Absolutely fantastic tutorials. You have and continue to help me so much. Thank you!
Great to hear! Thank you!
