What we need Dustin, is a SwellPro that can carry a leg of lamb. Then fly around dipping the leg of lamb into the water every now and again and you will see plenty of sharks.

i have got a question, i want to build a drone and i got some parts together and i want to make it, it is fpv and all from banggood, my question is: do you think this is a really good drone and what are the pros and cons. imma list the components down here.

Seems like an awesome drone and especially to look under water. But why would they put the antennas facing down underneath the drone, so when you do take a dunk your camera feed is not all that great? Seems to me you would get much better reception if the antennas we're on top of the drone...

Super cool! Almost as good as snorkeling! Hopefully they put that antenna above to keep the FPV.
+PK Steffen I'm going to try and move the antennas out to the sides and up a little. Hate to drill into a waterproof device though 😂
question for when flying. I'm buying a phantom 3 standard in about a week or so. Do you fly by looking at the screen or the copter? I have a pretty cheap drone right now and I have to fly it in headless mode or my brain gets all confused and I fly in wrong directions. I definitely dont want this to happen with my phantom 3. thanks
Both. One is Line of site and the other FPV (first person view looking at screen). You just have to practice to become a good pilot in both types of flying.
Dustin Dunnill alright thanks man. I figured fpv because I wanted to fly to a near by field but stay at my house and I didnt know if my phones fpv would be good for this
External antenna for FPV also propeller and rudder would make for exploring land and water. Vary cool quadcopter thanks for sharing
A mini rudder would be cool with the extra channel available for the drop mechanism :)

Hello, I was watching your videos regarding the SwellPro drone, and I noticed that in this video at time 08:45 the drone hit the water and it was flipped. How did you succeeded to bring him to his right position so you will be able to take off again from water? I saw another video of yours from last month when you tried to flip it in your pool and you couldn't. Can you please explain it?

+Avraham Cohen Hey good question. A change made by SwellPro in the SD3 that disarms and doesn't allow rearm on flip "for safety" they say 😕. I have told them they should allow it to flip upright somehow and they said they will try to implement it 👍

Nice video. Loved seeing the turtle and the fish.
It might be worth fitting a CP lens so it cuts out some of the light reflection from the surface of the water.
+andrew hodgkinson Thanks Andrew. I'll be doing just that. CP filters are really needed here in Hawaii.
They do some very cheap and effective 37mm CP lenses ($3-$4) on ebay for the go pro that are very effective.
The aluminium housing unscrews so you should be able to fit it inside your waterproof case.
You may have to modify the inside of the case just slightly to allow the extra thickness of the lens.
Iv done that on a Go pro and an SJcam waterproof case.

Forgot to mention you can fix a CP lens to the outside of the waterproof case.
I used a thin line of hotmelt glue around the outside edge of the aluminium threaded lens holder.
The 37mm CP lens wont cut off the corners of the image.
The hotmelt is easy to remove with alcohol if you ever want to remove it. .
My CP lens also came with a nice clip on cover.
I was thinking about that if the lens doesn't fit in the case. Was just worried about water in between lens and case but I guess that depends on the seal. Thanks again
Hi Justin, great video as I have ordered a swellpro 4 and that's the first real good video I have seen . What viewing Google's do you use for the swellpro 4 as I don't think swellpro sell them. Are you very happy with the pro 4 .

Also got to see a bit of Kapalua Plantation golf course .. which was on TV a few weeks ago, I think. I don't think sharks are going to stay around for a video shoot for long, so catching one isn't going to be easy, unless you get a boater to go out there and drop some "chum" in the area, then fly to it. Maybe you can rig your Swell Pro to drop some "chum" and then wait for the sharks to show up. Cheers.

I wish you did more underwater footage. It seems like your drone can’t manuever well underwater and maybe that’s the reason why you stay shallow with frequent trips to above to turn the aircraft. Could be wrong but that’s what it looks like

Awesome video and sweet drone had to stop it at beginning and grab some popcorn and family to watch your national geographic movie lol . Ive got the Ehang Ghostdrone and Hubsan 501ss also the Xiro Exployer V lol too many, anyway just thinking of a mod you can do to the cam where antenna is mounted to top of drone to prevent cutout ok my friend i subscribed and keep up the good work.

Dustin it looks like this thing actually went upside down just after hitting a wave at 8:50. Then after what appears to be a lot of propeller splashing, it appears to miraculously turn itself back over! Is that how you would interpret that event?

Dustin, after a few days after video, did any rust show up?
+Dusty no rust anywhere but one of the motors seems to have been defective and bearing was not sealed. Took a video and sent it to SwellPro. They are sending new motors as a warranty replacement 😁

looks like shark can be seen at 10:38 and 12:13 on the left of the screen, near the low water.. watch and you will see its full length as it turns 13:06 shows its full length on the left at screen

+Chris Done it can use a little improvement like antenna placement. It uses older analog FPV tech. But it is waterproof and works well enough which is still very unique when compared to what else is available. I don't think it's comparable to anything DJI has out yet because it's built around a waterproof purpose.
I'm a new person to the drone community I am 11 I am starting my own drone reviewing channel I would like to know is there a version of this drone that's not waterproof as I wouldn't really use that feature and also the camera on that drone is stunning I could get some nice cinematography shots with that

+DRONESTY I'd say a non Waterproof version would be a Phantom 3 or equivalent. Being Waterproof is what makes this one unique.

I really like this drone, I'm thinking a fishing line and lure, I wonder how it might do with a fish on since it's fine in water no worries well unless the "big" fish starts dragging it away. but It's worth the risk, oh loved the 1812 overture
Beautiful footage...Love seeing the turtle underwater. Maybe extend and route an FPV antenna out of the top, for underwater shots.....
Great video. I like this touch of nature. You could do some more videos of the sea with this drone. Because it´s somehting other, then always flying over the same spots. And you also have this fishing Cam. Try this one, who knows it could be better under water.

ive never heard of that drone. that is awesome!! haha. if you modded the vtx antenna to be on a mast at the top of the drone, you would get way better fpv feed when the bottom half is submersed. great vid dustin! so cool!!

Amazing video! Would love to see you attempt some fishing. You talked about the sweet spot for underwater video...how about some floats to hold it at the right depth.
I will definitely be doing some fishing videos. That's an idea with the floats but I'll probably move the antennas more up the sides so they are out of the water when it's floating. Adding the bulk of a float would be ok for no wind but would increase the surface area alot for the wind to blow around.

perhaps you can extend the fpv antenna... something about 1/4 2/1 3/2 and 5/8 from the wave lenght and multiplies of them should work. so you could set some of the antenna on top of this craft.. DO2GMA
I will be modding to bring the antenna more up and out the sides so fpv and control are not so effected when in the water.

Great video as usual! Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture was great background music. I haven't heard it in a long time. I appreciate your taste in music. BRAVO. You might try mounting a second 5.8 GHz antenna on the topside of the Splash Drone. Being able to see the FPV clearly when in the water would be so much nicer. A second 2.4 GHz antenna on top would increase the distance you could safely land in water and be confident of being able to takeoff. ;-)
+Don Fish Jr. Thank you Don. My thoughts exactly. Do you think splitting the FPV coax internally with a t adapter would work? I'm just worried about many connections and DB loss.
Dustin : You might try a coax pigtail, split end grafted into the existing coax, close to the board connection or a t connector. If you connect at a 1/4 wavelength or 1/2 wavelength on the original coax and cut the added pigtail to 3/4 wavelength or 1/2 wavelength, the DB loss will be negated to some degree by minimizing SWR. You could also simply relocate the existing antennas to the top of the craft, sealing the bottom holes with hot glue inside and a little outside. You might reuse the antenna covers or simply use heat shrink on the antennas. Shoe Goo adhesive would make a good water sealant on the relocated antennas. ;-)

Dustin Dunnill awesome, I was a volunteer lifeguard before, you can notify the lifeguard station nearby, or take it out on a boat (trust me you would get millions of views) it would be well worth it. Also don't worry too much, fishermen dump blood into the water all the time so if shoulder be much of an issue!
