  • This was the first “Tiny” board game I’ve ever played. Let’s find out if Tiny Epic Dungeons was a worthy addition to my library! I’m currently several videos behind but I’m enjoying making these videos. Thank you for joining me on my journey as I search for worthy solo board games to add to my collection and hopefully help you find some fun games, as well! I enjoy sharing these videos with you! Take care.
    Sincerely,

    Once again, thank you! You’re here and that’s why I’m doing what I’m doing. I hope you’ve enjoyed my review and found it insightful. There will be some heavy hitters coming in the following weeks so stay tuned. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a one person team and to make videos, I have to learn them, play them (several times) and then create a video (which takes time). There may be some weeks between releases but I appreciate your patience. Again, thank you and have a great game night! ‘Til next time, Solo Knights!
    Sincerely,

    I've been really wanting to try the Tiny Epic Series, and have heard Dungeons and Western are fun, so I'm happy to see your review! Looks like a decent amount of components come in the tiny box--like when 20 clowns come out of a tiny clown car😄. Fun review!

    • @SoloBoardGamingKnight

      Funny you mentioned that! I almost used your analogy of a clown car in my video via a real life story. It reminded me of when I was a kid and my grandparents took me to my first circus. That’s was the first time I saw the “Tiny Clown Car” skit. Tiny Epic Dungeons definitely brought back those memories.
      It’s not the best dungeon crawler I’ve played but for the price, it’s absolutely worth it! Highly recommended! I believe I remember you writing once that you enjoy rolling dice. If that’s the case, this one may be right for you. Take care, Chris.

    After 15 years I just finally got back into board gaming. And since I had gotten rid of all my games in the past (regrets!) I had to start buying games and I decided based on quality, content and price, I bought all the Tiny Epic series games. I just backed Tiny Cthulhu. These games are fantastic, portable, affordable and above all else I can play solo. Great games.

      First of all, welcome back to this great hobby!! I hope you end up finding some great board games now that you’re back! So far, Tiny Epic Dungeons is the only Tiny Epic game that I’ve played but there will be another Tiny Epic game making an appearance on this channel in the coming weeks. What I find interesting about the Tiny Epic series is how huge the games actually are considering the small box that contains them. It really is impressive.
      Anyway, I hope you enjoy the games that you’re playing and I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

      @@SoloBoardGamingKnight Thanks. I've gotten some pretty good games recently. Dungeon Heroes is another great small game. I also re-added the second edition of Descent recently and I'm waiting on Dungeon Alliance and it's expansion Champions to arrive as well as the entire collection of Hero Realms sets and expansions. But i do love these small box games. Deck Box Dungeons and One Deck Dungeon are good as well. And the same to you and your family. Happy Holidays! Here's to more great gaming in 2024.

    As usual, your enthusiasm comes through.
    Reviews are sooooo variable.
    Some say it is too difficult. Some say it is too easy.
    My thoughts are that many still don't play strictly by the rules- cos if you do, luck (or lack of it) will destroy you.
    I find winning is unlikely. Many move the torch down one place after all players have had a turn, not after each turn.
    Some people roll all the dice and add up all dots to determine their roll score. This is wrong.
    The iconography is pretty confusing and printing off the pdf of each card's meaning is very useful.
    I'm still learning but others have given up on it.
    The battle is fun, but players might need to be warned of the possible frustration.

    • @SoloBoardGamingKnight
      @SoloBoardGamingKnight  2 роки тому

      The icon guide was a game changer for me. The first 2 or 3 games I played, I was constantly stopping to decipher the icons. Once I found the PDF, the icons really started to make a lot of sense and that’s when I truly started to enjoy the game.
      If people play just once or twice, they’re going to miss out on the fun the game offers. At the end of the day, the icons help the game look nice (which I forgot to mention in my review) instead of being just a wall of text.
      I wasn’t aware that some reviews stated the game was too easy! It’s never been too easy for me, at least! Either that or I’m terrible at board games 😜
      Also, you can’t beat the price! For the amount of content you get, it’s worth it! That’s why I take my time making my reviews. I want to really learn the game and feel comfortable with it. I want to play it (because I love board games). Then I like to show the games to you all. I may release videos at a slower pace but I try to play the games at the best of my abilities.
      Thanks for being a part of the conversation. I’m going to search for some reviews to see what others have said. Take care.
      Just because I enjoyed your comment, I’m going to let you choose my next video (after Outer Rim)! You choose:

      I think is brutal. Like if you ignore the torch it can throw pretty nasty curves at you in the monster spawn and activation. If you ignore the goblins you will lose fast. And if you explore too much you run the risk of uncovering the minions too fast and they will destroy you.

  • @zdelorean88

    I find it to be the perfect dungeon crawler if I’m looking at just that…dungeon crawling. Flip tiles, fight/explore, and do it again. The rules pdf has every tile and what happens on each one, if I’m not mistaken but once I ran it a few times I was good to go. I wish the box was large enough to fit the expansions. As always, really enjoy your reviews and enthusiasm for the hobby. What sleeves are you using for the tiles?

    • @SoloBoardGamingKnight
      @SoloBoardGamingKnight  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! As with you, the PDF helped me a bunch and then it all “clicked” and I was good to go.
      For the square cards (dungeon tiles, loot, spells and potions) I used 70x70mm sized sleeves. They were Mayday sleeves. For the larger cards, I used 88x125mm cards from Mayday, as well.
      I was able to fit everything inside both the core box and the Stories expansion box sleeved (I even fit the boss meeples I bought). In the core box I fit all of the square cards along with all of the minis and the unlocked and alter tokens (fitted between the two stacks of cards). In the Stories expansion box I fit all of the hero, Torch Mat and boss cards. To one side (right) I fit all of the minion meeples and dice. On the top side, I fit the focus and heart tokens as well as the original boss token and Stories tokens. On top of everything, I neatly placed the boss meeples and finally the rulebooks on top. Hopefully this gives you a good idea on how to store it. It fit perfectly.
      If you have any questions, just let me know. Take care.

    I personally did not found the icons all that hard to grasp. Once you get the basics is kind of logical. I mean is not as bad as mage knight or anything. But I must concur that is a lot of icons for such a small game. At the same time it makes it a little crunchier than dnd adventure system crawlers. And for me that is satisfying.

    • @SoloBoardGamingKnight
      @SoloBoardGamingKnight  2 роки тому +2

      I agree. The most I struggled was during the first 2 games I played, having to stop and look at the icon legend. I also struggled with a few of the dungeon tiles in general (which led me to the PDF). Once I read some of the tiles on the PDF, it all clicked and I was good to go.
      There seems to be a lot of icons, at first but then it doesn’t really seem that bad once you’re used to it. I prefer the icons over a wall of text. The icons makes the game look better.
      Overall, for the price, this game is awesome! I love the expansions, too!

    Nice review! How’s the variability? This looks like it could get stale pretty quickly.
    EDIT: I don’t mean variability driven by more content/characters but more how different your tactics and strategy, and overall experience, vary between plays

    • @chrisw942
      @chrisw942 2 роки тому +1

      I have D&D's CastleRavenloft, The Legend of Drizzt, and Temple of Elemental Evil--light dungeon crawlers, but I often combine pieces/characters from them for more variability--games are only about 20 minutes. My favorite dungeon crawler is Aliens: Another Glorious Day In The Corps--60 to 80 minutes, and heavy and intense enough to be really satisfying!

    • @SoloBoardGamingKnight
      @SoloBoardGamingKnight  2 роки тому +3

      You are doing the same thing every game. Searching the dungeon, trying to collect loot/spells, facing-off against Minions to unlock the lair and finally facing the boss. That doesn’t change.
      What does change is the loot/spells/potions you find along the way. The layout of the dungeon will always be different. The Minions and bosses that you face are randomized (if you choose). Where variability truly comes in (if you don’t count extra bosses and heroes) is within the Stories expansion. There you get additional goals that you have to achieve before opening the boss’ lair. I didn’t mention that in the review because I focused mainly on the core box contents.
      With that written, for the price (I found it for $22), this is a game that you can play once in a while and really enjoy it. In that regard, it truly does give you a lot of bang for your buck. It’s not perfect and it won’t replace any of the bigger dungeon crawlers out there but it is a good game to play when you don’t want to commit (or don’t have) several hours to play a game.
      Hope this helped answer your question. Take care.
