  • There WAS a problem with the pricing on this unit, shortly after publishing this video. I contacted my representative and was informed that "prices will fluctuate". While that seems odd to me, for a clearance price to fluctuate, she has applied for correction on my behalf. The price is now $119.99 until the end of March 2024. NOTE: The Bluetooth heater is no longer on sale.

    ha ha, foreshadowing ;) I got a tach and measured the RPM for regular and alpine modes in addition to the pump speed.
    I'm at sea level and mine runs from _around_ 95°-165° in alpine, and 165° to 210° in regular. _(On odd thing it did on startup in regular mode is at H4 it would alternate between 2.4 & 3.9Hz, and H6 it was 2.9 & 4.7Hz, and it didn't seem to correlate with the block temp, but once stable it went with the faster speed. H5 didn't do this.)_
    Here's the revised table for the H1-H6 controller with Hz, RPM, and theoretical peak wattage;
    Mode Alpine RPM Regular RPM
    H-1 1.2Hz(1.02kW) 2270 2Hz (1.7kW) 2260
    H-2 1.6Hz(1.36kW) 2690 2.6Hz(2.21kW) 2680
    H-3 1.9Hz(1.615kW) 3100 3.2Hz(2.72kW) 3090
    H-4 2.3Hz(1.955kW) 3510 3.9Hz(3.315kW)3500
    H-5 2.7Hz(2.295kW) 3910 4.6Hz(3.91kW) 3900

    Vevor makes very good diesel heaters, I have 2 of those all in one 5kw, delivered to my door, bought on Ali... for 83 bucks, they already have hundreds of hours without any problems, it's true that I don't do experienced that you, only diesel and always close to maximum power, I have never disassembled them. I use them at the off-grid cabin in the mountains.
    Instead, I took a 2 kw one with which I had problems, the first was the glow plug and the second, more unusual one was the temperature sensor.

    Glad I watched this video. Took my heater apart cause it was flaming out again, might start the second time if lucky, so checked out the burner and it was clean, put a different glow plug in, started the first time, but next day back to flaming out, but would fire on second attempt. Charged the batteries this morning before starting it and when I did start it, fired right up, go figure, something as simple as low voltage messing things up. I run two RV batteries in parallel, so never thought it would be an issue affecting startup like that. Edit: when I took it apart, I did check the small hole where the glow plug is and it was clean, also checked the atomizer screen, same thing, clean, so clearly I was dealing with an outside issue. Hope it remains working as long as I keep the batteries topped off.

    I just ordered the 5kw Bluetooth version on sale for my cabin to extend the amount of time I can be in town( woodstove only lasts so long at -20C). Sorry, I can’t tell you if your code works, as I got the email about the sale and got too excited! 😂 I love my 2kw Bluetooth I use to heat our shower shack, but, using the thermostat smart mode, when it starts up, it pukes out a bunch of white smoke, even if my battery is at 13.2V to start. Mostly it runs on level 1, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, since November, and never misses a beat. Great content as usual Joel.

      (unsolicited advice) If you want remote access, I believe the afterburner is the only aftermarket add-on which has TCP/IP. It's not compatible with the bluetooth controller, so you would probably have to switch out the ECU and controller, but you can get a new controller/ECU combo for 20.48 including shipping from that CH mega-reseller site.

      If your heater is starting up with white smoke, and the battery is ok... you may have too much restriction on the inlet or exhaust. There are about a million things that can cause this, so it's hard to say, haha.

    • @WaffleStaffel
      @WaffleStaffel 5 місяців тому +1

      Was the heater starting up cold, or did the block still have heat in it? Like Joel said, it could be air restriction or a million other things. I believe at least one of my heaters will start pumping faster and sooner on startup with a warm block, but I haven't looked this closely into behaviors like this. I got white smoke on a warm startup when switching controllers the other day. That said, if it's only smoking on startup I wouldn't worry. The best way to know if it's well tuned and running good is to measure the CO output.

    • @billmoore5177
      @billmoore5177 5 місяців тому +1

      @@WaffleStaffel there would be some residual heat still in the heater body, probably down to 50C or so, you can tell, once it starts burning right, the exhaust makes that burner noise, and the smoke stops. When it’s running, the inside of the muffler tailpipe is clean as a whistle. I don’t have a CO meter, but believe it’s running cleanly for the most part

    • @WaffleStaffel
      @WaffleStaffel 5 місяців тому +1

      If your controller looks like his, you should either have alpine mode, or access to the password protected area where you can change the Hz and RPM. You can lower the pump speed down to 0.8Hz, or up to I think 8 or 9Hz, and you can adjust the fan RPM from a max of 3500 up to 5000. You have to set it in ranges, so to get the lowest pump speed of 0.8Hz, you can only set a max of 2.5Hz, but you can change the settings on the fly. I posted a table of the Hz and RPM for the alpine controller here a few minutes ago.

      If you have a heater that has access to the engineering menu, that will generally show you hz... you can also switch it to read in C .... I forget off the top of my head.... If you have this heater / controller, then you do not have an alpine mode, as they can't really have both.

    • @loweredexpectations4927
      @loweredexpectations4927  5 місяців тому

      Hello. Alpine mode or Plateau mode comes on many heaters. It reduces fuel input for higher elevations.
      Old heaters had manual settings for controlling air fuel ratio, by giving independent control over fan and fuel input. The slightly improved versions have Alpine mode that is controlled by the user, and a few heaters on the market (the Vevor Bluetooth heaters) have automatic elevation compensation.
      I hope this answers your question... in a roundabout sort of way, haha.

    When im getting air out of the lines on my diesel truck i put air on the fuel tank. Very low pressure. I wonder if that would work on one of these?
    I also question the accuracy of the voltage reading. I had mine hooked up to a GooLoo jump starter at 15 volts and the controller was reading 11 volts. I tested the jump pack with a snap on meter and it was reading 15 volts.

    • @WaffleStaffel
      @WaffleStaffel 5 місяців тому

      You're right. If you measure the voltage going into the harness with a meter, the controller will still read about a volt short on startup. This is because of how voltage is measured with a shunt on the ECU/controller. The traces on the circuit board are dropping the voltage before it's measured by the device.

    • @loweredexpectations4927
      @loweredexpectations4927  5 місяців тому +1

      You can use air or gravity to feed to the pump, but the bump acts as a valve. You can then do the same thing on the other side of the pump and then hook it up at both ends I suppose.
      The gauges are not terribly accurate... that being said... there is a LOT of voltage drop due to the small(ish) wires to the heater and the fact that the glow plug draws about 10 amps.... you could have 20V and it would still read pretty low, with the plug on, haha.

      I have a video talking about different KW ratings... I will leave a link, but basically, they are great heaters, but none of them are capable of 8kw. No one makes a 8kw heater.
      The 8kw, at best, makes about 6kw and most of them, and the 5 kw heaters, actually make about 4.3 kw, regardless of manufacturer.

      No, it does not grant access to an "engineering mode". If your controller has an "alpine mode" or "plateau mode" it almost certainly does not have an "engineering mode" as the two would have to fight each other and see who wins, haha.
      The Alpine mode basically does what you would do in the engineering mode, but sets it to one of two pre-set fan and fuel maps. The engineering mode, allows you to create your own air fuel map, by setting high and low of the fan and pump.
