    As a side note to anyone interested on Chinese diesel heater reliability. My son has been running an 8kw unit in his off grid caravan for 3 years & for 12 -15 hours a day. Sometime 24hrs constant in the winter & it never let him down. The only problem he had, was running it for too long at a low setting which caused carbon build up. The 8kw is too big really hence low running temps. He's an engineer and soon stripped it down and cleaned it out. He now uses top setting for a time regularly to keep it clean. Love your channel Dave.

      @@oliver90owner On its lowest setting (2kw approx) it uses .01 L p/h. flatout .5 L p/h. whether it is 8kw is up for debate. No doubt this can be worked out by diesel consumed. Dave did a test a while on this subject. Also, not use if trading standards in the uk would kick off if this turned out to be wrong. Flatout it kicks out some serious heat and way to much for my 24' x 12' workshop fulltime. i turn it down after 15 mins

    Great video as always David seems like a nice little heater, if you wanted to run it outside it would be handy if the manufacture would include a external temperature sensor so it could be indoors or even make the controller detachable with a longer lead but maybe that will come in a future update, not a bad price for what it is plus it's a small step closer to the Afterburner but still nowhere near the functionality.

    • @DavidMcLuckie
      @DavidMcLuckie  Рік тому +2

      That would be a good idea as well. An extension for the temp sensor. Don't really want the exhaust gas in the space you're heating, and having it ventilated just means you'll use a lot more fuel trying to stay warm.
      Small steps, but at least they are trying.

I have the same heater and controller from Hcalory and consistently travel and camp at elevations between 2km and 3km ASL. Based on the instruction manual that shipped with the unit, I was hopeful I'd be able to make changes to the altitude (by accessing En06 within the engineering mode menu) -It appears, however, to only allow viewing of the mode and not the ability to modify it. For that matter, I can't find the ability to simply fine tune the fuel low and high Hz rate (to manually set it for a more lean burn at high elevations).

    They should change the design of their heat exchanger casing and run the first 12-14 inches of exhaust piping directly out the burner and free float through the air tunnel it would make more heat off the exhaust and cool it down before it exits the exchanger body so exhaust tempratures are lower. it would probably be 30-40% more efficent too.

      Most diesel has biodiesel added as a lubricant. Check the pump sticker next time you buy fuel. Biodiesel is incredibly slippery, and it replaces the sulfur compounds which were previously used to improve fuel lubricity. If you stick with two stroke oil be sure to use an “ash-less” type to minimize carbon buildup

    I bought a few of these based on the auto start feature, the Bluetooth is a nice touch, but when the first one didn’t function properly by thermostat mode, and f9 wasn’t even in the options menu (even though it is the model that is supposed to do that) and as a party bonus (the heater is mounted outside my 5th wheel with the 3” heated air ducted inside through the floor) I have diesel fumes inside. I shut it down and turned up the propane furnace. These are a real “pile of kit” I’m sending them back, I’ll deal with the non auto start vevors occasionally overheating me, at least I’ll be alive, and not burn down my rig. This was the first hcalory product I’ve tried, and will be the last. Absolute rubbish!

    just a trivial thing I noticed perhaps but all the other information I've seen concerning the exhaust pipe is that if the unit is run for very long condensation and water builds up in the pipe unless it is basically pointed slightly down so the water can drain out? comment?

    • @DavidMcLuckie
      @DavidMcLuckie  Рік тому

      In theory yes. But the exhaust is also running at 200+ºC so any water that does condense will evaporate again. I suppose the problem would be if you ran the heater, let it cool (condensate forms), and the didn't use the heater again for an extended period of time.

BUT, fuel tank should slide into a holder so you could slide it out to fill then slide it back in to run. exhaust: if i wanted to put in a window and run the exhaust out the window it needs to come out the other end and lay down so i can close the window on it and the hot air out would flow into the room.
