As a machinist for almost 30 years, I’m a little jealous…..lol. I always wanted a Smithy for my house. Just always be safety minded and ALWAYS wear safety glasses. Great video guys.
"There's no more important safety rule, than to wear these *taps* Safety glasses" Sorry, must've watched too much Norm Abrams New Yankee Workshop. When you said about the glasses, that's what I thought of 😂
Cutting edge engineering from Australia has some awesome videos Ralphie might enjoy that guy knows his stuff very envious. Root cause glad you are enlightening your children’s life from Wa to Squeeze your a good dad Josh. No matter what projects you have at the end of the day that is the best gift you can give your children and your legacy. I wish I would have been so blessed in this life. Strong work.
This is great, if you don't need the money then the joy of giving something like that to a young man that has the desire to learn the craft is 1000 times better then whatever it would bring in cash. Big shout out to the family that gifted this to Ralphie, I know your beaming with joy watching this video. That feeling has to be priceless.
“ CUTTING Edge engineering AUSTRALIA “ Ralphie, this guy is a master in his knowledge of building his own equipment and rebuilt the biggest components made. Give him a try. He’s unbelievable. I am a welder metal worker, fabricator , hot rod builder, house builder former USAF for one night!! I know what a master is. And you young man have already gotten started to being a master . Your sisters are getting there too. What a family! I love all you guys! Wish I was 18 again we’d be friends? Hopefully. Oh I went to college late in life to be an artist photographer. I have a disintegrating spine. Needed a hobby. Lolol the VA sent me to college. I’m Joe rebuilding a 1980 Cobra!!! Yeah I’m 76, and I’m adopting your whole family. Kidding! Go for it Ralphie! Be the best!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍
It's hard to believe how kind and generous people are!! That is such a life changing gift for Ralphie that is. The more he used it, the better he would get!!❤😅
Not only do we get a3rd video this week but we see another example of how amazing people can be. This just proves that there are still great people in the world. I see a 5th channel in the future showing only Ralphe making things. ❤❤❤
All this time watching this channel, thought it was Sleeperdude that was the star of the show. Turns out, not so much. Ralphie manages to score all the best gifts. First a Corvette, now the machine of his dreams. Well done Ralphie!!
I’ve said before and I’ll say it again. With the way you two are parenting your children you give me hope for the future, these kids will make a difference because of the example your setting of great parenting.
Cutting Edge Engineering Australia. Is a fantastic channel to watch? He explains everything that he does? Great channel and does all kinds of thing. Believe Raphael and yourself will really enjoy it. Love all your channels ❤
Yup, all the adults and kids need to be made aware of the dangers so no one has a chance to get hurt badly. But, after watching mom and dad for quite awhile now, I know safety is always paramount with you and the kids.😁 John here, photographing the beauty of the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee, y'all.
Just a little safety tip. Take that chuck key out as soon as you loosen or tighten the chuck, in case you forget and turn it on. It will throw the key out and possibly hurt you. Keep Ralphie safe. He will enjoy all the things he can do with that machine. Great video. Hope he is feeling better.
Ralphie, you deserve it, i grew up watching my dad run a lath, and a mill, seeing you and your dad brought back memories when i was your age Ralphie, im now 62, and my dad's name was Ralph.
Congrats Ralphie👍👍🔧🛠️🔧Nuttin like a Mini Bridgeport mill/ lathe!! I spent 20 years doin Precision Assembly, and runnin a Bridgeport... the Ultimate multi-tool.🏁🏁👍. #1 Stay Under Center of the material when lathing. Tighten down bits & stock material like yur life depends on it, And them chips will hurt puppy n kitty feets, sweep up good. Git some cuttin oil, really helps prolong Drill bits. Be Blessed🙏🙏Oh , we used to put Steel casters on Everything, some of our parts weighed a Ton. Rolls like butter.😁
Such a nice gift! Thank you Robin and Judy for giving this to Ralphie. Super nice heavy duty table too! The kind of gifts y'all get is a testament to how much people like you! Way go go!
Just a tip of advise so you don’t get hurt, turn them chuck Jaws around when turning small stuff like that. If you don’t it will throw it for sure. If I can help with any questions let me know. I’m a tool and die maker not a CNC button pusher but an old school manual machinist. I’ll help any way I can.
Awesome! A couple tips. Get him a Machinery's Handbook. Super helpful. The lathe should not be at eye level, it's dangerous. The cutting tool should he on the workpiece centerline. And you cannot climb mill with that Smithy. It'll break the end mill and shoot out.
You and Tosh are the kind of people AND parents that all Americans should aspire to be. Y’all continue to make your fans proud! It’s also pretty darn neat that you and Ralphie were both just as excited about the lathe and the new welding table. Awesome video!
so many young boys and girls that are in to cars and metal work like welding, fabricating are gonna be a little bit jelly, not many 13yr olds get given this kind of equipment coz it's expensive, so I hope Ralphie is using all his spare time practicing.
Ralphie seems so happy to have it i can see him doing a lot of things with it, Robin and Judy ROCK. So nice of you folks to do this for Ralphie, get better soon Ralphie.
That was so generous of Ron and Judy. Ralphie is going to be an awesome machinist. It's so nice to see a young man these days that's going in the right direction with incredible dedication from great parents... All of your kids are winners. Good on you Mom and Dad :)
So cool! I was like a kid in a candy store watching this. Imagining all the things I could fix and make. Now I'm thinking I need to become a machinist. Ha!
You are such an amazing Dad/Father for Ralphie. I personally had no relationship with my Dad, at all! So, watching you and seeing the love you have for all your kids, truly is of God.
So before I was a truck driver I was a CNC Machinist, the classes a the vocational tech school required us to learn on the manual lathes drill press and vertical mill first before we could touch the CNC Machine
Josh i just want to say i think its awesome how much you support Ralphie and his interests and how much you let him work with you and teach him. and even Wawa and Squeeze you guys always support and encourage their interests, i never had parents like that, My dad would do work in the garage and anytime id try to go help or learn something id get yelled at i was in the way and run out. then as i got older he would be mad at me i didnt know who to do the stuff... you may not know it but you and tosh are making huge impact sin your kids lives and its sad a lot of parents dont even make the effort. i just hope the kids know how lucky they are i would have given anything to have parents like you guys.
It is amazing to see the generosity of your fans. It shows that you have really made something that is special with your channel. I'm excited to see Ralphie and you utilize your newest favorite tool. 😁
I retired last year as a machinist. I wanted one those combo's for years. Ralphie is blessed. Hopefully in the future I would like to see him operate it.
I have a metal lathe and once you have one you wont believe how much you use it for cars. Spacers. shortening bolts. bushings. modifying parts. Game changer!!!!!!
Ralphie u should watch Cutting Edge Engineering. They r from Australia and that guy does some suprt cool stuff it is a must watch for i hope u do because u can learn ALOT about machining. I watch him all the time cuz i love that stuff myself
CONGRATULATIONS RALPHIE ON YOUR NEW TOOL AND TABLE I'M SURE IT'S GOING TO BRING YOU LOTS OF JOY IN LEARNING THE TRADE YOU LOVE SO MUCH RIGHT ON LITTLE BROTHER
just remember the biggest mistake people make is leaving the chuck key in the chuck. always double check the chuck to make sure you didnt leave the key in it!.
Ralphie, Yes! 30 years of CNC Maintenance was an amazing career. Total knowledge of your machine including how to increase efficiency through tolerance tweaking even alignment to minimize electrical draw. My Boeing CNC Machines were $75M in 1995 and they're still running. We'd set tolerance to a half million to maintain tolerance repeatability to just a few 0.00001". One eight hour shift running time would make Boeing a quarter Mil, every shift. Your mechanical aptitude could make this a fun career with a huge payout. Make your Smithee CNC and write your own code. You can do it.
I am so happy for Ralphie. He deserves this. Its nice to see a young man who is interested in something other than video games and cell phones. This is the stuff kids should be learning how to do. You and tosh have raised a fine sweet young man. ❤
You should install heavy duty wheels on it bro...keep it up love all your channels may the lord keep you and ur whole family safe and blessed my friend
It is nice to see kids actually doing things. I try and show mine that you can have really cool things if you are willing to learn how to fix them when others give up. My son just got a deal on his second motorcycle as a non runner. We had it up and going an hour after getting it home. Only senior at his school riding a BMW!
Wow, this has to be one of the greatest things for Ralphie. He's becoming an expert machinist and now he has the ultimate tool to work with. This also opens up possibilities for when you need car parts worked on and milled precisely. Awesome!
Please, tell Ralphie to remove the chuck key as soon as he's done with it. NEVER leave the key in the chuck, that's an accident waiting to happen. Stay safe!
Josh, with all the cool new stuff, you'll need a bigger shop! That's an awesome gift for Ralphie! I'm sure he'll put it to good use. Tip: no gloves, drawstrings, long sleeves around the machine. Don't want to get caught in that!
So cool, I am almost 60 and I finally got an old WW2 Lathe and an old mill. There is a channel called Blondihacks. She has a group of videos called lathe basics and mill basics. She is a really good teacher for beginners like me
Good for Ralphy he's a great young man. He looks so much like my son when he was younger it's uncanny They could be each other's doppelganger. Love watching all of you on the channel
Awesome!! I'm a retired tool and die maker . I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have on the machine or machining in general. also theres a few you tube video people I could recommend, Blondie hacks shows alot of beginner machinist videos Joe Pie a little more advanced machining , Mr. Pete does a bunch of how to machining videos , and this old Tony is just good fun to watch. First thing is put on the other set of chuck jaws so theres more jaw surface clamping on the work. Be sure to put the jaws in inorder they should be numbered and the chuck body has matching numbers that need to fed in so that they meet at the same time in the middle you can find this sorta set up videos on blondie hack or Mr. pete
I'm 70 years old. When I was a kid my dad traded a Morris Minor (small British car) for a 12 x 36 Clausing metal lathe so, I grew up with one. I made a lot of hand cannons. It started out with firecrackers for propellant and went to homemade black powder. Charcoal and sulfur were easy to get but, getting saltpeter from the neighborhood drugstore was not so easy. Imagine our delight when we found out sporting goods stores would gladly sell us big ole containers of gunpowder. I'll remember Alcan AL-8 forever, a shotgun powder, it worked great in a cannon. Those cannons were far safer than the .22 zip guns made out of car antennas, wood, nails and rubber bands. It was a different world 60 years ago. Edit- You can easily sharpen those cutting bits.
Ralphie was over the moon when he saw the Lathe. And Sleeperdude your eyes were pretty big too. LOL. With Lots of practice you both will get good at making things.
In our hometown we had a tech school in H.S. We were allowed ro opt for half day school, half day tech. There has to be a local guy who does machine work. Bet you could talk them into one day a week to teach. Or do a p/t job, (ralphie) in order to learn to use his machine. Being able to do your own heads & then some is Outstanding. Big Kudos to the family that cared enough to pass this down to the young man. Ty for taking us along p.s You may want to look into getting prescription safety glasses for you guys. Please be mindful of your eyes, You only get one set
Hat tip to the couple who gave Ralph such a wonderful birthday present.
As a machinist for almost 30 years, I’m a little jealous…..lol. I always wanted a Smithy for my house. Just always be safety minded and ALWAYS wear safety glasses. Great video guys.
Yes thank you
"There's no more important safety rule, than to wear these *taps* Safety glasses"
Sorry, must've watched too much Norm Abrams New Yankee Workshop. When you said about the glasses, that's what I thought of 😂
Absolutely safety first! I worked as a machinist for 13 years. Steel is sharp and often hot! And loose fitting clothing is a no go around lathes.
If They could afford it ! ! !
Get Ralphie a Machinist handbook. Both of you will find information that will help you out. Tooling, tools, and time will get him going strong.
Ralphie is going to be a happy camper. God bless the folks who gave him that

Cutting Edge Engineering Australia. Is a fantastic channel to watch? He explains everything that he does? Great channel and does all kinds of thing. Believe Raphael and yourself will really enjoy it. Love all your channels ❤
I can’t stress the dangers of a lathe enough. Please stay safe using it and have fun :)

Awesome! Yes he loves it
Such a generous fan to give this to you guys, and even bring it to you. ❤
