My father owned a Dodge and Plymouth dealership from around 1934 to 1969, and each summer Chrysler Corporation would debut the new vehicles for the coming year. We were in the Dallas Region so we would drive about 4 hours to Dallas to see the new vehicles. Chrysler would make a big production of it and would have off Broadway type groups perform a theme type show between the presentation of all the new vehicles. It was really great entertainment with a lot of skits, singing, dancing, and lots of beautiful ladies. In 1964 I was 17 when we went to the new car showing. I am almost certain they played this short movie before they introduced the new 1965 Dodge trucks. Back then trucks would go years with one body style that never changed from year to year. One year we had a truck that didn’t sell before the next years truck came out. There were no changes from year to year, and the truck had close to 0 miles on it, so Daddy sent the title back to Dodge and they issued a new title showing the truck was the next year’s model. They only did that on trucks, and it was rare, but the government stopped that practice a couple of years later. I also remember when Daddy received the first truck that cost $2000.00. He didn’t think any farmer would ever pay that much for a truck. Times have changed.
In SF,CA in the 60's every year they had a Truck Show. Every brand and all the semi's. In those days you could climb in and check everything out. I was 10 and my father took me every year, after all he was a Trucker. Good Times!

Don Knotts was one of my favorite actors. They don't build trucks like that anymore. Back then they were made with pure steel and a man could work on them when they broke down. Thanks for sharing! Never seen this one.
Ah, yes. You could service or rebuild every darn part on it. Though....they were underpowered, had brakes illegally unsafe by modern standards, got horrible per -horsepower mpg, steered poorly even with a giant ships' wheel, and made a one star crash rating look like a lofty goal. I absolutely love mine!
Old Dodge trucks! Made in USA! The slant six, designed for a Valiant, was used in these. Lots of torque. Set into the "dog-box" with a seat on each side. We had an old Class A motor home Explorer with a 413. I could not keep up with it on the road in my Chevy truck! In the early 70's, my ex and I saw a Mazda pickup stuck out in a marshy meadow. A county 3/4 ton Ford p/u drove in to pull it out of the mud. IT got stuck too! Hard to believe, but this is honest truth! We came along in a 1955 Chevy pickup, straight six, ("stove bolt six") 4 on-the-floor. My ex hooked onto the county truck, which was still hooked to the Mazda, and using first gear, he pulled them BOTH OUT! Most amazing thing I ever saw. We also had a 1977 Dodge van conversion. Our kids called it 'Odge because the front D had come off. I used to take my kids and all their friends to movies, roller skating, everywhere. That was the first thing their friends asked: "Are you bringing 'Odge?" They loved it. Carpet on the walls, oval side windows, typical 1970 style! It had a 440 with glass packs. That thing could have pulled a house with that 440! Once a guy in a restaurant heard it but didn't see it. When I walked in, he saw it. "I thought that was a garbage truck!" he said. My husband was crushed. We now have a Dodge Dakota Club Cab V8, 2 doors, with a long bed. It feels like it is 40' long when I have to park it. My husband just backs it right in, no problem. 🤨
It was a fun truck to drive . I owned a red one I inherited it from a uncle who owned it for almost 15 years. It took exceptional good care of it. When I acquired the truck it only had 72k miles on it hardly broke in.

I bought a new 69 Dodge Power Wagon Camper Special, loaded. 383 V8 all power, PTO winch, except windows. I still have it, it's a tank with just 75k miles. Really hated to see them crash one in this video.
Mr Knotts was one of my favorite old school slapstick comedians. The moves, the look and the voice. A very gifted performer. Thank you Don! Luv ya man!
I love at 2:52 when he says, "Men, ladies, men ladies and men..." Don Knotts is one of my favorite actors of all time. You were smart to put his clip in the thumbnail instead of Dodge (although Dodge had some damned good trucks back then, and the Powerwagon was super. Don got me here. Isn't he a national treasure?
If you're a big fan of Don Knotts, you know the Move, "The Love God?" with a character, "Osborne Tramaine" so that puts things into perspective about this Channel, I love Cars.... love Car Commercials......BUT. Don Knots is my most favorite Actor and Comedian
I think the area where they crashed the Dodge was filmed either at Iverson Ranch in Chatsworth, California or at Corriganville over the hill from Chatsworth in Simi Valley, California.
I like how Dodge was using a man wearing a crevatte to sell heavy duty trucks. Anyone know who the ice cold brunette in the black dress was? Hubba hubba
1965 - US Marines land in DaNang marking a significant escalation of the Vietnam War; the civil rights march in Selma was met with police attacks, tear gas and vicious dogs; The US intervened and occupied the Dominican Republic, 3000 Dominicans are killed, 31 US service members; Race Riots in Watts, Malcolm X is assassinated etc, etc. Take off the rose-coloured nostalgia glasses. This was a make believe commercial.
I ran into Don Knotts some years ago at the Beverly Center. He was doing a book signing and was coming out from behind the book store counter before the signing. Nobody was around except Don, an employee and me. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅
He was a serious actor. I was on set with Ron Howard a few times. We were good friends and neighbors. He and Andy would be studying their parts and were nothing like depicted on this video. However, once the cameras were rolling, they could turn on their charm and be hilarious, when the roll called for it. They were consummate professionals!
My best friend Dennis used to have a Power Wagon of about the same year, only it was a butt-ugly Dodge (stock?) orange and had a massive home built grill guard (that I found for him in a salvage yard!). He used to call it his "Dawg" - and we treated it like, one bashing through the hills and rocks of Colorado.
How did we lose them? They aren't traded on the NYSE anymore, but they are still a stand alone company....just owned by Stellantis. They've had many owners over they years.........NYSE individual share holders, then Daimler about 30 years ago, then Cerebus about 20 years ago, a US company, then Fiat, now Stellentas.....still headquartered in Auburn Hills under the name FCA, but it's Chrysler Corporation still behind the name.
@OsbornTramain You just answered your own question, they haven't been the original Chrysler for many years. I drove their cars/trucks from 1972 until 2010. Stellentas is why I stopped primarily because they were overpriced.
Check out 9:34, look how narrow that cab is. Can you imagine being in an accident? Absolutely no crumple zone to absorb energy. This was when the people were the crumple zone. lol
That was fun to watch, a time when things were more basic & simple, no touch screens, no backup camera's, the 'entertainment system' was what you saw out the windows. My favorite Don Knotts movie is 'The Reluctant Astronaut'
I had 66 Dodge pickup with a 318, and there was NO STOPPING that truck. Put 1.5 yards of gravel in the back, couldn't tell it was there. Pulled two horses and a trailer, I forgot they were back there
Back in the 80's I had an original mint condition, fire engine red/white top, '63 PowerWagon W200 crew cab, 4x4 318 Poly with 3-on-the-tree. Had a massive, yet tasteful front bumper with a Warn winch, and a nice red/white metal interior with a rubber floor. That beast was a sight to behold.
There's a lot of things from Yesteryear that would not be allowed today, because we live in the "Politically Correct" era, anything and everything offends somebody! Society needs to take a good shit and loosen up a bit, can you imagine a show like, "Married With Children" being produced today, it would never make it to the air waves, because it would offend somebody!
I thought the video title said Don Knotts and DON WIlson, from "The Jack Benny Show." The idea of the two of them together sounded like epic comedy. But then I realized I was wrong. LOL
I’ve gotten to meet him in person.. unfortunately he wasn’t around much longer, but had him sign a model car that my father had from the “Andy Griffith show” and it was at the Louisville, KY expo center somewhere around 20yrs ago..
If I'd seen this sooner I'd have bought a Dodge years ago. I just bought my first in 2019. My first diesel was in 2003. First truck of my own was a '69 chevy in 1987.
Despite some, really, bad process(or, have I become too jaded?), I enjoyed the heck out of this. We, even, got Dick Wilson! Thank-you, for posting!(keep it, going!)
Yes, you're Jaded, no one has seen this film in over 50 years and it's old and damaged, red color and water spots. Plus it cost money (my money) even to get it into this state to present, it was in worse condition.
What a relic of another time. A time I remember well. A Power Wagon of about this vintage winched my truck out of a man-eating mud hole in the 90’s. Nothing to it, the guy said.
The Power Wagon four-wheel drive for 1965 has always been one of my favorite pickup trucks especially if it has a 4-speed on the floor manual transmission I can remember a hunting buddy of mine had one of those and we went just about everywhere wherever wild hogs and pigs would go were regular four-wheel drive trucks fair to tread that is one tough truck that can go anywhere!!
Don Knotts never shied away from making a buck, he actually did a book about building and repairing with Concrete for Quikrete......Somehow I'm guessing Don Knotts knew very little about concrete.
Fun video. My cousin still has his 71 Power Wagon. It is still a beast. Nice to see no disclaimers while that truck was beat to death. How times have changed.
This brought back a old memory deer hunting with my Dad. His buddy had a Crew Cab Power Wagon, and as we were driving on a dirt road, we hit a rain check doing at least 35 mpg. No seatbelts in those days, or we never used them everyone in that truck hit the roof multiple times. Yee Haw!
There will never again be another Don Knotts. The man could do comedy with no effort.
Ralph furley 😁😁😁
Yep. All the greats are now gone.
C laughs wete few too

Ask Thelma Lou and "Nita,Jua-ua-ua-ua-nita"!
Literally, as in his movie “The Love God”.
I bought a new 69 Dodge Power Wagon Camper Special, loaded. 383 V8 all power, PTO winch, except windows. I still have it, it's a tank with just 75k miles. Really hated to see them crash one in this video.
Why do few miles?
The scene with the bear was very funny!
Mr Knotts was one of my favorite old school slapstick comedians. The moves, the look and the voice. A very gifted performer. Thank you Don! Luv ya man!
''Big Payloads''🤣🤣😂 & IF YOU CAN'T DODGE IT, RAM IT!!
@@OsbornTramain Wow. That's super cool! I had a '69 Charger 383. Loved that car. It would pick up and go!
And just think, 13 years later, another famous Dodge would begin racing down those same roads where this commercial was filmed...the General Lee!
So fun, so period inappropriate...loved it! Thanks.
I usually think a little Knotts goes a long way, but this left me wanting more!
I had a '64 Dodge pickup. 50 years later I have recurring dreams that I'm still driving it.
I didn't see that coming crashing a brand new Dodge truck. Great tv ad back then.
That was a Shocker !
I think the area where they crashed the Dodge was filmed either at Iverson Ranch in Chatsworth, California or at Corriganville over the hill from Chatsworth in Simi Valley, California.
@@spiff8862 Some of the background looked a lot like the backgrounds in MASH
I like how Dodge was using a man wearing a crevatte to sell heavy duty trucks.
Anyone know who the ice cold brunette in the black dress was? Hubba hubba
Actually, it’s just a theatrical promotional.
Definitely needed this during quarantine boredom. Thank you Sir!!
Quarantine?!?....... What quarantine??
It’s hard to believe there ever was a time like that in America, I believe we are the last generation.
yep, we're living in a world of ridiculous nonsensical pap and personal offense at anything.
Only if Trump gets reelected
@@stephen1170 He will help but we must do it ourselves.

Don is crazy funny love it.
Thanks for keeping the videos flowing during difficult times..
Perhaps the greatest commercial I’ve ever seen!!
How Don Knotts didn't win an Oscar for THE LOVE GOD is hard to believe!
One of my favorite Movies!
Those bird calls topped off by Don's American Eagle cry, were the funniest sound effects to a 1960s kid. We tried our best to mimic.
Back when a tough, rugged truck wasn't aftermarket and people either had a sense of humor or just dealt with it with dignity and grace.
Isn't that the old don't squeeze the charmin guy lol
Yes Dick Wilson. Also Darren's drinking buddy on Bewitched.
Mr. Whiffle!!

Chrysler was a great company I loved their vehicles and owed mulitable Dodges, Plymouth and Chrysler. I hate that we lost them.
This was when the people were the crumple zone. lol
Hate to break it to you but even modern production semis dont have a crumple zone
Power wagon with that familiar clang of the door closing.
That closing door sound brought back memories
@@thekingsilverado9004 Nice! Take good care of that.
Big Payloads, You better believe it, love Don Knotts
13:45 they should have had a perfect non-wrecked truck hidden at the bottom and come roaring up. "Greatest Truck Ever Built"
That scene you laid out reminds me of Don Adam’s as Get Smart falling and then getting right back up as if nothing happened.
I never knew don was such a hit with the ladies.
very cool thanks,I was 5 in 1965 makes me feel old LOL
Outstanding 😇😇🌹🌹💖💖🧐🧐😉😉😏😏🍻🍻
That was fun to watch, a time when things were more basic & simple, no touch screens, no backup camera's, the 'entertainment system' was what you saw out the windows. My favorite Don Knotts movie is 'The Reluctant Astronaut'
Thelma Lou might get jealous
Barney has Thelma Lou in his “back pocket.”
Possibly.
According to the words of Gomer.
I had 66 Dodge pickup with a 318, and there was NO STOPPING that truck. Put 1.5 yards of gravel in the back, couldn't tell it was there. Pulled two horses and a trailer, I forgot they were back there
"She has the lead in our new prospecting film 'Big Payloads' " "You better believe it." 😆
I’d love to have that truck. What a great advertisement for Dodge. That truck was doing what macked out off road vehicles do.
The VAN was cool back then.
@5:24 reminds me of finding bread crumbs in sponge boy cartoon.
RiP Don Knotts, genius and comedian
Just found your awesome channel. Thank you!!
He will be missed.
That was…AWESOME!!!! Almost like watching a Russ Meyer film!!!
I didn't know Barney worked for Dodge? He's so funny.
I have more videos of him for Dodge, he did them for a number of years.
@@OsbornTramain Great! When are you putting up more?
@@rickduquette3399 they are up, search for a 1966 dodge film knots, you'll find it
Having Indians on the warpath would NEVER be in any video made in today's "PC" environment.
Right, they're all at the Casinos now. they get there on the roads we pay the taxes to build.
Not to mention, the blatant Male Chauvinism. Feminists would have a field day. Good times.
@@edbouman5013 yeah. The Catholics have gotten pretty cocky these days too. PC won’t let us discriminate against them. Sad.
@darkwood777 PC won’t let us say anything negative about the Catholics likewise could in the good old days
I thought the video title said Don Knotts and DON WIlson, from "The Jack Benny Show." The idea of the two of them together sounded like epic comedy. But then I realized I was wrong. LOL
Wow, incredible talent!
Who is the lady in black ? The technical director ? Thanks !
Back then I refused to buy a Dodge because of their annoying ni-ni-ni-ni starter.
@dehydratedwater9806 gear reduction starters? I remember dodge power steering of the 60's70's was super super easy. Wish my ram now was that easy!
Imagine trying to pull off that ad today 🕺💃🕺💃😂🤣
women objectified, native Americans stereotyped, big "bad" gas guzzler trucks glorified. I can hear the lisping zombie SJW hoards stirring already.
Don Knotts being alpha AF...
lOL YOU just HAD to be one to drive THOSE.,.,.trucks done now....not so much. PS Came here from Markl Evanier NEWS FROM ME.
Absolutely awesome
I owned a 69 W200...Wish they still made trucks like that.
I loved Dodge vehicles. I thank you all for his quotes to the history, and literary greats.
I like how it turns into an episode of bang bus in the end
The women are incredibly beautiful, and the trucks are super cool.
Who knew the shakiest gun in the west could drive.
This was very entertaining and very unexpected.
Thank you
Despite some, really, bad process(or, have I become too jaded?), I enjoyed the heck out of this.
@@OsbornTramain It wasn't,at all, a slight, on your film; you know what I mean, by "process."
I had Googled 1965 Dodge truck, whilst trying to find one for sale like my dad's truck we virtually grew up in.
And then, this appears..
What a relic of another time. A time I remember well. A Power Wagon of about this vintage winched my truck out of a man-eating mud hole in the 90’s. Nothing to it, the guy said.
Great find.
Only a matter of time until Steve Buscemi lands the lead in the “Don Knotts Story”
. LOL
I don't think you are being very fair to Don Knotts.
That will be cool 😎
They made fun of the fact that Mr. Knotts had "full control",..shows how big of a star he was...
Nip it! Nip it in the bud!
I love my Dodge truck....it never lets me down 🚚
Don Knotts never shied away from making a buck, he actually did a book about building and repairing with Concrete for Quikrete......Somehow I'm guessing Don Knotts knew very little about concrete.
The men were dapper and everyone actually cared about their looks and reputation was still important. It isn't that way anymore.
That was some great stuff.
Mmmmm lots of curves in those dodge trucks! A few headlights on too I see!
Fun video. My cousin still has his 71 Power Wagon. It is still a beast. Nice to see no disclaimers while that truck was beat to death. How times have changed.
hhahahaa the last scene was like watching the Man from Snowy River!
Yee Haw!
This is great 🤠
