There is an alternative way to escape the cell without hiding under the bed. ;-)

I don’t want to spoil anything, but it sounds like you’re on the right track as far as the overall story. They’ll explain a lot more about the questions you have before the end, and the rest of the MGS series will fill in some gaps as well. I found you for your Half Life play through, which I am continuing, but I need your next episode of MGS1 now! Don’t keep me waiting, Snake. 😉

Some great dialogue and of course voice acting, but I really like the delivery of:
    "That's patricide."
    "Yup."

Been quietly watching since you started the playthrough, glad you've chosen to play this classic!
I loved listening to the Codec calls anytime I went into a new area, or had a new item in my hand and rang folk to see what they thought. I know you're conscious of playing the game, and they don't always have something unique to say, but sometimes it's worth it for the odd dialogue. Try it with one of the boxes equipped! Another non-spoilery/optional hint: there may be some items in the gas rooms/electrified floor area worth looking at.
I noticed some dialogue I'd not heard before in my many playthroughs - when Ocelot is torturing (or "interrogating", as he'd call it) you, Snake remarked seemingly out of nowhere, "But I never heard that before". I looked it up and it turns out it's an unused line from an otherwise longer dialogue where Ocelot says:
"Ocelot: I'm going to run a high voltage electric current through your body.
Ocelot: If it's just for a short time, it won't kill you.
Ocelot: Did you know that it was the French
Ocelot: who first thought of using electrical shocks
Ocelot: as a means of torture?
Snake: I've seen lots of French films, but I never heard that before.
    Ocelot: You're a tough guy, Snake. "
The French reference was omitted in the North American version, so Snake's remark in isolation makes no sense. Must have been kept in in error. Snake's line was completely removed for the European version, along with all the stuff about the French. Not sure why - to avoid offending the French? Anyway, boring trivia, but goes to show how much I played this game back in the day that that one line stuck out to me!
Looking forward to the next video, and hope you had a good holiday!

Autofire was a cheat that 3rd party PS1 dual-shock controllers had. It would act as if a human were mashing a button down. These days they're called turbo controllers and mostly used to cheat on online shooters.

By the way you were wondering what the strange shapes on the DARPA Chief where... its kind of hard to tell with the pixelated PS1 era graphics, but they are meant to be maggots.
