What is DNR in medical terms? #shorts
If you've ever heard the medical acronym "DNR" in a tv show or at the hospital you might be wondering, "what does dnr stand for". It's important that you learn what this means because as we all get older we need to start thinking about what we want at the end of our life. Would you want to go through CPR if your heart stopped? Would you ever want to be intubated and on life support? Would you want to let yourself die naturally when the time comes? I know these aren't always comfortable conversations to have with ourselves but death is a natural part of life and it might be worth considering how you want to face that death.

why wouldn’t you wanna be brought back..?
You know what? that is a fabulous question and it deserves a lot more of answer than I think I can do well in a post. If it’s ok, I’d like to actually do a video answering this (hopefully sometime next week if my hospital schedule allows). Thank you for your patience, I just want to give the importance of this question the respect of a complete answer
If I was going to be a vegetable and/or have poor quality of life, then don’t bring me back.
@@JustAnotherArmyVet That’s a pretty common way for people to describe their feelings
@@DrScottBland I think most people Would feel that way.
Many people who are at the "end stage" of their disease may opt of a "do not resuscitate" (DNR) order. In these cases, he likelihood of a successful resuscitation is low and if they do "come back" then they are typically on life support for the rest of their life or have a poor quality of life. There are many reasons why someone may decide on a DNR. It's a personal decision, but many times it comes down to wanting quality of life vs quantity of life.
Dudes like “There’s two options, yea you can have some guy come in and push on your chest and try to save you… boring… Or die which I hear is really nice too”
Thx for the short explanation... Sometimes you really don't have to open a book to get to an understanding...
I’m glad you found it helpful
@@DrScottBland I did thx... lol... 3 little letters to 3 little words...
what would happen if someone signed the DNR and the doctor brought them back?
Probably nothing, speaking for
the uk if you resuscitate someone with a dnr you will be protected under the good Samaritans act law
I do not want to be resuscitated and I do not want a tube down my throat. ask me again about the resuscitation after I own a medium large house and have a million sterling pounds as savings and my own private transportation.
Owning all those won't really happen.
The older I get the less I would want it too
Have you put thought into if you would want intubation or CPR if something happened to you? Does your family know what you want?

why would u need a dnr?
You would really only “need” one if you did not want cpr or intubation if your health declines that much.
@@DrScottBland ok
@@DrScottBland thank you for clarification
Bruh it’s like he’s trying to pitch DNR to us lmao wtf is a doctor even 😭😭😭😭😭
The only goal is to explain what it is and why some people choose to elect that status.
