If you can find it.. "Magic Power", Live at the US Festival 1983.. may be the pinnacle of their career. They ruled that day in front of half a million Rock fans..
IMHO I think Triumph is one of the best power trios ever. This is probably my favorite song, but their catalog is full of winners. Thanks for your reaction, keep fighting the good fight!
A few years ago, my man had to have a very dangerous surgery and we had to drive to the next state to a specialty hospital for it. It had been a year-long struggle trying to figure out what the problem was but once we did it became even scarier. He had the surgery and it was completely successful. When he was released, we were on our way home and as we were getting on the highway on-ramp this song came on. We sang it together. I will never forget it. ❤️
Always enjoyed Triumph but they never seemed to get the attention and exposure they deserved. When I did get those rare chances to see them on TV or wherever, they always delivered.
I never knew this was about cancer and the lyrics don't really reflect that. I always just thought it was about being a good person. A lot of Triumphs stuff is about that. It helped me a tremendous amount growing up.
If you EVER get the chance to watch them perform this at the US Festival 1983, do not hesitate to react to it. 3 Man band, like their Canadian Rush compatriots, that absolutely slayed it, and the crowd. Top 3 Live performances I've ever seen.
Rick Emmett refused to write negative lyrics, if you want to check out some other amazing Canadian bands listen to April Wine - Roller, BTO-Let it Ride and then there is Max Webster/Rush-Battlescar
In Canada, the news pitted them against Rush. Each has 1 similar vocal range of the lead singer 2 a three-member band 3 has at least 1 all-star on an instrument: Rush: drums, bass guitar; Triumph: guitar, drums. But on the contrary, the two bands are friends! Also review Lay It on the Libe, Magic Power.
Dream Theater's song "Another Day" is about John Petrucci's father having cancer, the song is lyrically verbose and it's a heartfelt ballad featuring a sax. "A Change of Seasons" is about Mike Portnoy's mother dying in a plane crash and the mixture of emotions he went through processing that. By some it's considered one of the biggest prog masterpieces ever and is usually in the top 5 with fans. Lastly "Best of Times" was written to Mike Portony's father when he was dying of cancer...huge Rush vibe to that song and it ends in a very melancholy way. An amazing Petrucci solo in that song, one of his best heartfelt ones. My grandmother died of cancer, she was my best friend. I always went to her for help or advice and then suddenly I couldn't talk to her. The cancer was around her throat and was actually choking off blood to her brain, so she started displaying Alzheimer's symptoms or dementia. She was only sick for 8 months before she passed but I swear it felt like 5 years...
I was always a huge Triumph fan, watched them live several times. I can still remember the day that I heard they were disbanding. I was pretty upset. Was lucky enough to watch them play their farewell show at Kingswood music theatre before they went their separate ways. It was not like any of their regular shows, which were always intense experiences with tons of lasers, lights, smoke, pyrotechnics, they were a tour de force live. The show at Kingswood was bare bones, they did it on short notice for the local Toronto Fan base. It was a sombre crowd but appreciative. Sad day.
My favorite Canadian band. Got to see them in 1986, during the *"Sport Of Kings"* tour. One of the best concerts I've ever been to. They had it all, talent and a great stage show. Rik Emmett was nice "eye candy" too. Their lyrics were very inspirational, without being preachy or heavy handed in Christianity. I always felt better after listening to one of Triumph's songs...
"Magic Power" is another great one from Triumph. I also recommend "Never Surrender", "A World of Fantasy" and "Rock and Rock Machine" and "I Live for the Weekend".
Great, thoughtful reaction to this classic by Triumph. Thanks! Another song I'd recommend is Last Chance by Shooting Star. They were another band that deserved a lot more recognition. The lyrics are meaningful in that one too.
Great show around 1980 at Santa Monica Civic. I believe with April Wine. Many great Canadian bands around that time, including of course the best one...Rush!
They say it's better to give than to receive I do my best to do my part. Nothing in my pockets and there's nothing up my sleeves I keep my ( magic in my heart)
Probably the best lyric in the entire piece: "...but you're the master of your own destiny {Sorry: A fallacy. Not true. Other people's choices and things you cannot control end-up influencing and controlling your life, your options, your choices and (thus) your journey. ...but that's a great lyrical line. 🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥} So give and take the best that you can!" 🤘🤘
You've already reacted to Lay It On Line and now you've done a reaction to Fight The Good Fight. You gotta go one more for sure with this band and react to their song Magic Power!
I was at a pre TEXXAS JAM party once. A lot of rock celebrities were there. The party was in my old neighborhood of East Dallas. There was one guy there that I thought I knew from high school. We stared at each other all night, surely we knew each other from school. Before I left to go to work, he came up to me and said "I think I know you from somewhere". I replied "same here. Did you go to Woodrow Wilson?" He said no, he wasn't from Dallas. He stuck out his hand to shake mine and introduced himself as Mike Lavine. I felt so stupid. Of course he was with Triumph, and as a DJ, I should have known. Dio broke my nose at the same party, accidentally of course, with his forehead LOL. So many cool people were there, I wish we had phones with cameras back then. Keep up the great work here on your great channel!!
Hey man, I check out a lot of reaction channels with people discovering rock music and I have to say, without a doubt you do the best selection of songs! Not the same old old same old that every reaction channel does, but the great underground hard rock/metal classics that old bastards like me grew up on. Much props to you, sir!! Keep rockin' out!! \m/
Great band great album. I know we all have thoughts and stories. Only our Lord can overcome our pain. April Wine another great band. Mark Hutt made great suggestions from them plus “I Like to Rock” Official band play through. Still no disappointments. 😎
"Follow Your Heart" is probably my favorite Triumph song, but it seems to fly under the radar a bit. It's great when I'm in a pump-you-up kinda mood. "Spellbound" is another one worth checking out.
"When The Lights Go Down: and "Never Surrender" by TRIUMPH (Then "Suitcase Blues" by them 😛👍) [...also: "Take A Stand" "Hooked On You: and "A World Of Fantasy" 👍🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘💥]
Need to do some more Triumph. Possibly "Spellbound" for the next up. Definitely April-Wine, so many need to listen to them. I'll throw some other Canucks out there, Colin James - "Just Came Back", Loveryboy - "Lovin' Every Minute of It ", Saga - "On The Loose", Bryan Adams - "Summer Of '69", Rik Emmett did a solo album that was good as well might try "Drive Time", Alanis Morissette - "Hand In My Pocket", Sarah McLachlan - "Angel", Tom Cochrane - "Lif Is A Highway", Alannah Myles - "Black Velvet", Corey Hart - "Sunglasses At Night", Crash Test Dummies - "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm", Honeymoon Suite - "New Girl Now", Chilliwack - "Gone Gone Gone", William Shatner - "Spirit in the Sky" with Peter Frampton, The Tragically Hip - "New Orleans Is Sinking", Leonard Cohen -"You Want It Darker" , Neil Young -"Rockin' In The Free world".
Triumph: Canada's other great Trio. You should check out another Canadian band, 'April Wine'. Check out the songs 'Sign of the Gypsy Queen', and 'Just Between You and Me'.
Yet another great reaction Chod. If you get the chance, check out their live performance of this song in Halifax Nova Scotia. The video enhances this song. Keep up your drumming. You definitely have the talent. Years ago I was talking to Karen Carpenter ( yes THAT Karen Carpenter) and she said that she was just a drummer who could sing a little bit. Boy was that the understatement of the freaking century. Check out some of her drumming videos. Great job my friend.
Another great Canadian band. Try another north of the boarder gem, Devin Townsend, the song Kingdom from the EMGTV. It will absolutly blow your F'n mind!!!!!!!!
Triumph- Magic Power!!!
Triumph - Magic Power

Love Triumph another great one is "Lay it on the line"......
this was his first reaction to the group done a few weeks ago if you want to look it up
A few years ago, my man had to have a very dangerous surgery and we had to drive to the next state to a specialty hospital for it. @@andyreid6826 Aww thanks, Andy. 🙂 Everything’s great (relatively speaking). Hope you’re well, too.
Very cool.
Always enjoyed Triumph but they never seemed to get the attention and exposure they deserved. When I did get those rare chances to see them on TV or wherever, they always delivered.
I agree with the others about "Magic Power". The magic power Triumph are singing about is music.
I never knew this was about cancer and the lyrics don't really reflect that. I always just thought it was about being a good person. A lot of Triumphs stuff is about that. It helped me a tremendous amount growing up.
The song is not actually about cancer, it was just his relative's struggle that inspired him to write this song which has a much wider meaning.
it can be interpreted anyway you want. That's the beauty of music, it has different meanings for everyone.
Brah......Magic Power
Triumph.........super under rated! Rik is a great vocalist and guitarist!
Not an overplayed selection, so good job.
I miss TRIUMPH seen them 2 times both times was just amazing!
If you EVER get the chance to watch them perform this at the US Festival 1983, do not hesitate to react to it. 3 Man band, like their Canadian Rush compatriots, that absolutely slayed it, and the crowd. Top 3 Live performances I've ever seen.
They were a last minute , little known replacement band at that festival , and stole the show.
easily top four concerts for me....would be higher but I have seen Pink Floyd three times so....
@@onepieceofgumleft they were very well known in the US by this time in their career mate.
I was at the Us Festival... great show
@@eironwyman8157 Well that just isn't fair. No go to your room.
Tremendous talent in this band all the way around. Underrated IMO.
Magic Power by Triumph should be next
Rick Emmett refused to write negative lyrics, if you want to check out some other amazing Canadian bands listen to April Wine - Roller, BTO-Let it Ride and then there is Max Webster/Rush-Battlescar
I heard Battlescar for the first time last week on the radio. Great tune!
@Steve Gregg followed with a "sign of the gypsy queen" chaser.
And a must is Doucette's "Mama Let Him Play" a classic so few Americans have ever heard.
@Steve Gregg You are in for a treat.
@@toddstevens13 they literally play that song everyday on the radio station here in moncton. It is a great tune.

Great band inspirational rock n roll
Warren Zevon " Keep Me in your Heart Awhile" he was dieing of cancer . Great song
When I was in high school, my favorite three bands were STYX, Triumph and Ultravox. This song brings back a lot of memories.
One of the best motivational songs written. Amazing vocals and overall musicianship. Very underrated band.
I saw Triumph in 1984. One of the best shows I've ever seen. Pyro was insane.

Third row center, Worcester MA 1984-ish. They had a killer live show. Great guitarist.
World of Fantasy is my favorite Triumph song.
Love Triumph.....unfortunately they were underrated back in the day 😓. Thank you for the love 💕💗🕊️. Great message in this gem 😊
Triumph... Poor man's Rush
Great, thoughtful reaction to this classic by Triumph. Thanks! Another song I'd recommend is Last Chance by Shooting Star. They were another band that deserved a lot more recognition. The lyrics are meaningful in that one too.
Rik Emmett ( singer) was inspired by his aunt, who was dying of cancer. Such a beautiful and inspiring song!! ❤🤘 The guys are proud Canadians too!❤😊🤘
YEAH !!!!
Ahhhhhhh.....so wonderful to hear some Triumph....one of my faves!!!!
Now do "Hold On", or "Somebody's Out There". Then move on to Trooper, "Raise a Little Hell" or "Say Hello"
I wore out my trooper "hot shots" cassette. Great music. You must be a fellow canuck, lol
@@andyreid6826 went to high school with Jian Ghomeshi and, yes, he was a prick back then, too.
I saw Triumph on this tour. I was about 15. It's still a "go to" song when I need an uplifting tune.

One of my fave Triumph albums. They pumped up the volume on this one. Canadian Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
This has always been my favorite Triumph song, even before I knew about the writer’s inspiration. That makes it all the more meaningful. 🥲
I remember when I first heard Never Surrender. I was amazed and immediately bought the album.
