This is, probably, Triumph’s most underrated song and their first of two about the power of music ( Magic Power is the other one and is just as good.), something I believe in, totally. And you are hearing, in Rik Emmett, the best combination lead vocalist/lead guitarist in all of rock/metal. No one is right at the top in both disciplines like Rik is. There is, truly, nobody better at that.
The most underrated rock band ever, another great 3 piece band from O-Canada. They deserve so much more credit for their music and should be in the rock HOF!
I had to make one more comment about Somebody’s Out There. Just because someone is single later in life and has never married, don’t assume they want it that way. I am one such person. It’s not that I haven’t tried, or come close to marriage, it just has never worked out. It is a lonely life, at times, but I don’t give up on the idea of a lifelong companion, and this song gives me hope in that area. The last lyric really says it all. I will somehow be somebody’s someone, someday. I love this song.
Positive music is very therapeutic and soul soothing. Triumph always had a positive message and their musicianship was unparalleled! Thanks for your reaction!
Always a positive message in their songs. Next up for them is "Follow Your Heart". Three man band, but, you haven't heard the drummer sing yet, so, here you go. :)
I really do LOVE how many reactors are listening and reacting to some of Canada's finest musicians! We really did produce some greats in this country. Thank you! 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁
To me, Triumph would have been a much bigger band if they had come from anywhere else in the world, but not only were they a three piece band from Canada, they were from Toronto. April Wine is a pretty good band to fill out the Canadian triumvirate of greatest bands, as well.
Triumph is awesome. Just a game is a great song just like Never Surrender & world of Fantasy so many great song. Thanks for taking the time to listen to incredible band.
Triumph fits their name. All of their songs are positive. And the Rush vibes, well, they are a three piece band from Toronto, Canada, just like Rush, so there are going to be similarities.
What you're describing are called rototoms which can be tuned to a specific pitch. Used famously here and on Head East's Since You've Been Gone and on Pink Floyd's Time. Cool sound that I really wish was still fashionable...
I always enjoy watching reactions of younger people discovering the music that I grew up with. It was a golden time of true musicianship and artists that put their heart and soul into the songs. Triumph was a great band at live shows as well and the positivity took over the whole crowd. Now in my 60's, it does my heart good to hear these songs as another generation listens and "gets it", even more so in these trying times. Most drummers with double bass kits had a wide array of mounted toms and even sets of 3 roto-toms, which sound like what you were describing. Triumph, like Rush, was another great rock trio from Canada. You should try to find Joni Mitchell performing "woodstock" live on piano. I think it will move you. Keep listening, stay safe and best wishes.
I have forgotten how good Triumph is both vocally and musically thank you

This group has a positive vibe in all of their music. If this song doesn’t make you want to dance around and leave happy, you need to reevaluate your life.
Time warp 1982, me on a summer day just driving around in my 67 Mustang and my tape player cranking out this album. What a great album from start to end.
"Follow Your Heart", "Never Surrender", "Magic Power", and "Somebody's Out There"... or, if you'd like to try somethng completely different, try Joe South "Games People Play", [link: ua-cam.com/video/5znh58WITU8/v-deo.html ] This song won Joe a Grammy in 1970... really great track.
Chod; you have just touched the surface of great Canadian bands. Dig deeper into Triumph, April Wine , and Trooper. Keep this up and we may have to make you an honourary Canadian citizen.
Gil Moore played a huge Tama single headed concert tom kit with Triumph, and the toms have that unmistakable "bite." His smallest was a 6" tom. Phil Collins' Gretsch concert tom kit is instantly recognizable. Peter Criss from Kiss had a huge Pearl concert tom kit back in the day. Neil Peart's first 4 toms on his classic kits were concert toms, the rest double headed.
A rare live show from Steely Dan performing "Black Cow." And it is Excellent!!!! I thought you might want to see this Live since you like live shows.....It also means that this group maybe doing Live shows in the future.
Triumph is another amazing 3 man band out of Canada , like Rush and so so good in concert. Caught them and Cheep Trick back in the early 90's . Just a great positive jam band we all grew up with on our favorite FM Station - KSHE 95 ST . LOUIS, MO. PEACE HIPPIE JOE
Dude, Triumph helped me so much as a kid growing up. Most all of their are positive and uplifting! I just made a post on Facebook tonight about what Fight The Good Fight meant to me! Magic Power is great one a swell as Follow Your Heart! They have so many awesome songs. One of the lost underrated bands of all time.
They were a great band and many if not most of their songs are uplifting. They truly are, no downer type music in their vocabulary. Rick has even said such about their songs. This band never got their due and Rick has one of the most awesome voices and never got his due as a guitar player he truly is great at both. He stills sounds awesome. Drummer is also very good.
Thank you for all of your Triumph reactions! They are amazing! Lots of good suggestions here in the comments for other songs but I’ll add “Allied Forces” as another one to check out

Hey Chod! I know you already reacted to "Lay It On the Line" but to truly appreciate Triumph you have to see them live. Check out Lay It On the Line live at Halifax ua-cam.com/video/jkx47Zsyicc/v-deo.html Also as already requested you have to listen to "Magic Power". As the lyrics go "She's had a rotten day so she hopes the DJ is going to play her favourite song". For us old folks who remember not having the ability to play any song on demand, you had to listen to the radio instead. Although Rik Emmett has been the singer for the songs that you have reacted to so far, the drummer Gil Moore is also a singer. Check out their song "Just One Night" ua-cam.com/video/N8Iyi2pscjI/v-deo.html to hear his voice. Cheers!
3 guys.....yep. Triumph vocals up there high but hey if you can do it, you definitely should let your voice soar. Rik Emmett, soars up there in the clouds with his range. Probably ran into Steve Perry on the way......lol....🎼🎶🎸🎸🎤🔥😎
Do you want to smile? Put on a Triumph song. All the songs suggested in these comments are truly great pieces. My suggestion if you really want to hear their versatility try Suitcase Blues, like it says it's a blues track.
Mr will u don't have 2 hold on just lay it on line and fight the good fight cause every one around u has their on little squimms so fallow your heart.triumph 4 life.
You said a few little things in your comments that show you really get this band. Yea this is a positive song, but it is far from their only one. Triumph, truly lives up to their name. as virtually all of their songs are positive. That is probably why you like this band so much. In incidentally the singer and guitarist are the same guy. Rik Emmett is probably the best combo lead vocalist/ lead guitarist in rock history. Others are good, but no one is as good at both things as Rik. Finally, the Rush vibe. These guys are a three person band from Toronto, Canada, just like Rush. This is the second best Canadian rock band ever. So you get it. You understand. Congrats.
I will give one major suggestion and then suggest many other Triumph songs to hear. First you have to listen to the song that has a similar theme to this one, the transformative power of Music. The song is Magic Power. It is slightly different musically, but the lyrics have the same theme. Other Triumph songs to hear include, Rock and Roll Machine, Blinding Light Show/Moonchild, I Can Survive, Nature’s Child, Hard Road, Ordinary Man, Say Goodbye, Never Surrender, All the Way, Writing on the Wall, Rock Out Roll On, Follow Your Heart, Time Goes By, Time Canon, Killing Time and Somebody’s Out There.
Chod, you may wanna check out Spellbound, A World of Fantasy and Follow Your Heart to see the range of different styles these guys could pull off. Many people tended to see them as Rush light and wrote them off because of it but to many of us the comparison was very wrong. Sure, they're both Canadian trios but Rush was all about progressiveness and Triumph was just old-fashioned rock. It was a whole apples to oranges comparison that shouldn't have hampered the band as much as it did back in the day.
Truth is that: Triumph was always considered/treated as " Rush's less-talented little brother." Triumph possessed both, the prog, tendencies and the hard rock tendencies which Rush did; but to a lesser degree ...and, yes (as demonstrated by later songs and albums in their career) they were much more "pop-rock radio friendly" and more commercially straightforward. There is not doubt that: Rik Emmett is a superb guitarist. Gil Moore a fabulous drummer and Mike Levine a strong bass player. ...and Rik and Gil are, both, underrated vocalists. Yes. ...but assessing their catalog, overall: they, surely, deserve their positions as: "Canadian rock-trio also-rans." ...and the comparisons w/Rush (not Chod's here -THAT is apt!- but I mean: the generally posited ones... 👍👍) are: ridiculous. Inept. Have no basis. They are different bands, entirely. (They, simply, happen to have the same home nation (and city) and both be "classic power trios" (insofar as THAT goes). That's all.
This is, probably, Triumph’s most underrated song and their first of two about the power of music ( Magic Power is the other one and is just as good.), something I believe in, totally. And you are hearing, in Rik Emmett, the best combination lead vocalist/lead guitarist in all of rock/metal. No one is right at the top in both disciplines like Rik is. ...but assessing their catalog, overall: they, surely, deserve their positions as: "Canadian rock-trio also-rans."
...and the comparisons w/Rush (not Chod's here -THAT is apt!- but I mean: the generally posited ones... 👍👍) are: ridiculous. Inept. Have no basis. They are different bands, entirely. (They, simply, happen to have the same home nation (and city) and both be "classic power trios" (insofar as THAT goes).
That's all.
My group of friends loved Triumph. Rush is in a class of their own.
Canada puts out!
