Rik wrote this song for his aunt who was battling cancer at the time. Unfortunately she lost the battle. Rik is in a fight with cancer of his own now, but I believe the prognosis is pretty good. Loves me some Triumph. Great live band!!!
Oh wow! I didn't know either one of those things. Most of the best songs have very special meaning to the person(s) that wrote them and certainly is one of them. Never got a chance to see them but loved their music. God bless you Rik.
I was at this concert about 10 to 20 feet from the stage.... Best 3 day event ever.... Triumph was the best performance of the US festival.... Great memory!
@@RobertMichaelStewart Quiet Riot priest? Damn..... that's insane I listened to it on the radio as a kid during the live broadcast and remember how bad Van Halen sucked but everything else was quite amazing
I envy you sir. I was only 13 at the time and my dad was definitely not cool enough to take me and some friends. Would have loved to have been at least a couple years older..
I’m almost moved to tears watching this performance. The whole set at the US Festival was INCREDIBLE. And sadly Rik is battling prostate cancer at this moment. Keep fighting the good fight indeed, Rik.
Best band I've ever seen in concert, and it's not even close. This coming from a man who saw 50+ shows. Rik Emmett's voice authenticity to studio records was part of it, but the whole band played so tight. Amazing time to be alive!
Triumph, as a band, knew they couldn't copy Rush and be a Canadian rock band success. There are similarities, such as a high vocal range, the bass player plays the keyboard as well, and the lyrics have a relatable story, not to mention an awesome drummer to keep the beat going, but in the end, they have a sound all of their own that separate the two. Rik Emmett gained international recognition as the lead singer/songwriter/guitarist with Triumph from 1975 to 1988. Five gold & platinum decades in the music biz provided entry into the Canadian Rock Hall of Fame, the Music Industry Hall of Fame, the Junos Hall of Fame, the Canadian Walk of Fame, and the Heavy Metal Hall of Fame, as well as induction into his Mississauga hometown Musician’s Walk of Fame and Legends Row, with a few ‘Best Guitarist’ awards in various categories. Music is in his blood. He has taught in Toronto on the Humber College Music faculty for a few decades and is the Artistic Director Emeritus of the Songstudio Songwriting Workshop. A friend of mine has interviewed him a few times, and he just goes on and on about anything music with many personal stories. 🐰🕳
They have a ton of awesome Songs!! You need to check out "Lay it on the Line", "Magic Power", "A world of Fantasy", "Hold on" and "Somebody's out there" just to name a few. There concerts were second to none!!! There Lyrics are always powerful and uplifting!! Welcome to the Triumph rabbit hole!!!
Rik Emmett - supremely underrated and under-appreciated guitarist. Great front man for this straightforward rock band. This is raw and relies on nothing but their sheer talent - Triumph was freaking amazing~ ✌🏻🙏🏼
Yessss!!! Triumph ROCKS!!! And yes there was a Triumph car big in the 70s and 80s. I think you’d really enjoy their song “ Magic Power” and “Hold On” … but thank you for this reaction!!!🔥
I discovered Triumph adjacent to Rush, but by coincidence, Triumph and Rush are both 3 piece master bands, both Canadian and both became my two favorite bands before I realized Triumph was also Canadian. I'm red-blooded Texan myself, but you will find both bands to be very well thought of in Texas too. I guess when you have good taste it's not hard to imagine finding and loving both bands. Might I suggest Triumph's 'Lay It On The Line' and 'Magic Power.' Which reminds me too, you need to check out Rush Presto, title song from Presto album.
Hey again, thank you so much for doing Triumph after your Rush reaction 🎉. Such a great but very unappreciated band in my opinion. Rik is sooooo amazing and they are awesome. Thanks again and I'm glad you are enjoying your music journey 😊
Great reaction ! This was a real turning point in Triumph's career - 3/4 's of the crowd never heard of them before this concert ( being Canadian) and people were blown away ,many saying they stole the show . Their sales & recognition went through the roof gaining a large American fan base as well - ❤ Canada
"Magic Power" from same festival is equally as incredible.

If you want to hear Rik Emmitt shatter glass with his upper octave, “Lay It On the Line” from this same concert is amazing, as well as “World of Fantasy”.
I liked Never Surrender - with its offbeat sound and Rik's soaring lyrics - although it was never the commercial success of Magic Power and the other songs in your replies.
They definitely rocked live. I saw them in Pittsburgh too many moons ago to count. Thinking the 80's maybe. Very foggy back then. Long enough ago l had this album on 8-track.
Being a fan of Triumph back in the 80s (I saw them at least 3 times), I see some amazing parallels between them and The Warning. Both power trios where the guitar player is also the main lead vocalist, but the drummer sings lead sometimes and the bass player sings backup and plays keyboards occasionally.
I love this, one of my favourite Canadian bands. I saw them in 1978 at the Canada Jam, so so awesome! You must check out the songs Magic Power and Hold On, you'll love them.
Great 3 piece putting on an amazing show. Rick Emmet on Guitar / Vocals is an incredible singer and player I love your opening comment "I hope they rock" Oh yea. They Rock!!!!
Yes a car and a motorcycle and a band LOL The 80s Rule 🤘🤘🤘 Red you rock so much and I love the 80s road you are exploring ❤Red you are so beautiful in those glasses I mean that ❤#triumph #reaction #firstreaction #candadianband #canadarocks #rikemmett #gilmoore #mikelevine #philx #stevemorse #anelmcknight #scotthumphrey #michaelboddicker #joelfeeney #garymccracken #redheadedneighbor #bestreactor #redsarmy #beautifulfuncountygirl #heartofgoldwithmetalinhersoul #bestbadjokes #28K
Motorcycle ( Triumph ) Rik Emmett is one of my all time favorites ( guitar, vocals ). Magic Power or Headed For Nowhere are my favorite songs by Triumph
I got to see them in San Antonio a little later in the 80s. Story is a dj there Joe Anthony gave them a lot of air time and help them get rolling, so after they blew up and came there they gave away a Triumph motorcycle at the concert. That's most likely the vehicle you associate them with..
My favorite all time band. I was lucky enough to see them live on 4 consecutive tours. Rik was sick the last show I saw in Chicago in 1986 but played and sang great anyway. Thanks for keeping them relevant.
I went to see Triumph back in the early 80s. I still rate it as one of the best concerts I ever saw. And I've been to everyone from iron maiden to scorpion to Garth Brooks in his prime
Yep Triumph is a British company that did make cars but make motorbikes now. I first came across Triumph on a radio show in the late eighties called The Friday Rock Show. Headed For Nowhere was the song and I loved it. I don't think there's a live video of it on here just the album version with a still of the album cover it came from. Great song though.
On (what I understand) is rented or loaned equipment. All the instruments are borrowed from a music store in Southern California. Their equipment somehow didn't make it there.
Ngl ...nerdy librarian Red in glasses lamenting about Rush being over before she was satisfied was stellar , but this is a more restrained , refined Red .....oh my.
These guys were friends with Rush. Both also recorded some albums at the now-gone 'Le Studio' recording studio, which is featured in the Rush videos for Tom Sawyer, Limelight, and I think another. I got to see both in concert (not together). Both are great bands.
Awesome. I saw them live 3 times. Triumph was first and foremost a Live Band. I found their studio stuff more subdued. Still great but live is where they really show their chops. Especially from this show. Their drummer wails on vocals too. "when the lights go down" would be an example from this shiow.
LAY IT ON THE LINE AND MAGIC POWER ARE ALSO PRICELESS! I saw these guys live and after hundreds of concerts, these guys are still the best live show I have ever seen.
Yes. 100%. I always try to recommend the same. Triumph was a live band. I found their studio stuff a little too polished compared to live. Saw them 3 times. Always incredible
This whole performance at the US festival in 1983 was so awesome. They knocked it out of the park, Try their World of Fantasy that day. Loved Triumph since I was 12. Great review.
Love some Triumph, saw them in 83 at the Texxas Jam in the Astrodome. Phenomenal band. You ahould check out Lay It On The Line from this same show.. Magic Power is another great tune. Thanks for the reaction.

Another band I have seen several times. Including the epic performance at the Oakland Arena (1984 or 85.. can't recall). First time I ever experienced a laser light show. Very cool!
TRIUMPH, the other Canadian power trio! Saw them live 5 times back then. Killer band! Try, I Live for the Weekend from them. Crank it up because that’s a Hardcore Jam! They Blast on that one!
Finally!!! Triumph is Awesome!! LAY IT ON THE LINE,,,, and MAGIC POWER should be the next two!!! You should (at your leisure) check out the studio version of all these!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
RUSH guitar player ALEX LIFESON has written some songs with Triumph's guitar player RIK EMMETT - of course they are friends - but a few years ago they wrote some songs together and released them - and on that note -- Alex Lifeson also played a guitar solo for a song in the rock band Porcupine Tree - the song is called "Anesthesize" and it's a great guitar solo by Alex Lifeson of Rush - you'd love reacting to Porcupine Tree because they also have a very talented drummer that Neil of Rush himself loved very much!! -- and they are great prog rock music songwriters - you'd enjoy a reaction to Porcupine Tree for sure
Hey RED, Check- out "lay it on the line" Triumph- Jan 6 / 1987 live at the Metro Center, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada! I was 21 & at that concert! Lots of pretty ladies there too ! LoL! Great video reaction, Great memory too! "61yrs old", Now! Hello from Fletchers lake, N.S. Canada.😀👌👍✌🤘
Rik wrote this song for his aunt who was battling cancer at the time. Unfortunately she lost the battle. Rik is in a fight with cancer of his own now, but I believe the prognosis is pretty good. Loves me some Triumph. Great live band!!!

No backing tracks.. No pitch correction.. No auto tune.
Just a band and 200,000 people having a great time..What a time to be alive.
I was at this concert about 10 to 20 feet from the stage.... Best 3 day event ever.... Triumph was the best performance of the US festival.... Great memory!

Live.
Brutal heat.
No. Autotune.
Pure talent.
Welcome to a brand new rabbit hole of music. These guys are awesome.
Mass appreciation to the sound engineers capturing this live performance so well.
I’m almost moved to tears watching this performance. The whole set at the US Festival was INCREDIBLE.
And sadly Rik is battling prostate cancer at this moment. Keep fighting the good fight indeed, Rik.
There will never be another Rik Emmet or Triumph Band.
Rush. Triumph. You're practically an honourary Canadian!
Another Canadian 3 piece band that Rocks hard.
Cheerz!!!!
Lay it on line best song

I was there for all 3 amazing days, and Triumph was one of the best acts that day, if not the best.

How did I never realize how much he sounds like Geddy. Great reaction. I've been listening to these guys forever!!!!!! Thanks Red
I saw Triumph the same year here in The Sam Houston Collision in Houston Texas.
Great concert

Love Triumph! Saw them a few months after my first Rush show in 79😊
One of those truly under-rated bands from the 70s - 80s.
Triumphs music is always positive and powerful.
Never Surrender!!!🎸🎸
Love Triumph. Saw them 2x in my high school days in the 80's. Both amazing shows!
Hey again, thank you so much for doing Triumph after your Rush reaction 🎉. Such a great but very unappreciated band in my opinion. Rik is sooooo amazing and they are awesome. Thanks again and I'm glad you are enjoying your music journey 😊
Proud to say my fellow Canadian boys. Wicked talent.
The music of my youth. Every time I hear these guys it sends me back to gentler times.
Great reaction ! This was a real turning point in Triumph's career - 3/4 's of the crowd never heard of them before this concert ( being Canadian) and people were blown away ,many saying they stole the show . Yeah US festival has no misses. Their apex moment. A perfect set
I liked Never Surrender - with its offbeat sound and Rik's soaring lyrics - although it was never the commercial success of Magic Power and the other songs in your replies.
@@TheGrapeofWrath1 agree. And that tasty bass break into rik's solo.
Spent all 4 days at this event. Working concessions, I had the opportunity to get enough time off to enjoy a lot of music.
I tell you. This band was great 😃👍
Top tier band.
⚡️Triumph⚡️Hell yeah!!! Keep more coming!! 🤘🏽🤘🏽
They definitely rocked live. I saw them in Pittsburgh too many moons ago to count. Thinking the 80's maybe. Very foggy back then. Long enough ago l had this album on 8-track.
I had the privilege to see Rik Emmett at the Omni in Oakland California and the mid-1980s. He was fantastic ‼️🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Being a fan of Triumph back in the 80s (I saw them at least 3 times), I see some amazing parallels between them and The Warning. ❤ Magic Power
I love this, one of my favourite Canadian bands. I saw them in 1978 at the Canada Jam, so so awesome! You must check out the songs Magic Power and Hold On, you'll love them.
Absolute masterpiece - one of the very best rock songs ever laid down.
Great 3 piece putting on an amazing show. Rick Emmet on Guitar / Vocals is an incredible singer and player

TRIUMPH.....THE MOST POSITIVE AND MOTIVATING BAND TO EVER GEACE A STAGE ......THEY INSPIRED ....THEY WANTED TO SEND A POSITIVE MESSAGE. AND DID
Well said !! Fully agree!
Red, you must really love power trios! Rush, Triumph and The Warning! Keep rockin’!🤘🎸

Triumph, they where awesome! I saw them in 2008. You are made for reacting to good music!
"Is there a Triumph car?"
Not sure, but there is a motorcycle manufacturer with that name.
And a car too.
Somewhere on UA-cam is this guy's cover of Rush's "Red Barchetta" with Neil on the drums . . .
