The guitar solo on the studio version of this song is, in my opinion, one of the most perfectly crafted and performed solos of all time. Years ago, two friends of mine who were DJs in the metro Detroit area met, fell in love, and were married. On their way to their honeymoon, the bride fell ill...upon going to the hospital, they learned that she had Hodgkin's Disease. They chose to go on their honeymoon as scheduled. What followed was a short but happy marriage...the disease resisted all treatments, coming back every time. If memory serves, she passed away something like 7 years later. Her on-air name was Sabrina West (Black, after they married), and the groom was named Steve Black. I bring up this sad story because they were (and are) friends of mine, and I attended Sabrina's funeral. Instead of the usual depressing music, the funeral home was filled with the sounds of their favorite music, which they had chosen together beforehand. This song was prominently featured among those songs, and the lyrics were printed on the back of the memory cards that were handed out. Steve later said that they had become a sort of rallying cry for Sabrina and himself. I've never looked at the song the same way since. Rest in Peace Sabrina Black! I apologize for the length of this post...I kept it as brief as possible. God bless!
Don't worry about the length, it was well worth that beautiful and heart wrenching story. Poignant, sad and inspiring. Go bless her and you. And Triumph.
You sure are welcome, I also play guitar and have ALWAYS thought the same as you about the studio solo on that song, I just HAD to learn it note for note!
My favorite group. Canadians are know to be "NICE" and say "I'm sorry". Rik Emmett (lead guitar and lead vocals on most songs) has the sweetest, best & highest (largest vocal range) male rock singer I have ever heard. And 2nd to no one guitar playing. Although Very humble and would never say how good he is. In concert one time, during "Rock and Roll Machine', Rik went into a ??? 30 minute solo--playing at least (1) of Every great Rock & Roll song, by Every great guitarist ( Jimi H, Jimmy Page, Santana, etc.... songs by Queen, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rush, Jefferson Airplane/Star ship, Pink F, and Many More. " The good book says it's better to give than to receive, I do my best to do my part. Nothing in my pockets and there's nothing up my sleeve, I keep my magic in my heart."
Seen these guys three times in Hollywood Florida in the 80's. Amazing show and stage show. The lasers and light you were always wowed when you saw Triumph!!
🇨🇦😎 lovin it from Toronto Canada.....Triumph was a great Canadian hard rock band formed in 1975 that was popular in the late 1970s and the 1980s, building on its reputation and success as a live band. Between its 16 albums and DVDs, it has received 18 gold and nine platinum awards in Canada and the United States.
Triumph was playing around the time of Rush and was referred to as "Rush's better looking cousin." They never did tour together. You can see from the video that Triumph added a second guitarist later in their career when they toured, which Rush didn't do. The lead guitarist and the singer of this song (and most of their "hits") is Rik Emmett. An excellent player in his own right, he authored a monthly article in Guitar Player magazine. Jamal, you like drummers who can sing, right? Gil Moore sang lead in many Triumph songs, too. Definitely a hard rock band of the 70s and 80s.
Gil Moore is such a good singer, he could front most bands- even behind the drum kit. What a band- to have TWO fantastic vocalists among only three members.
Yeah, never toured together but they knew each other and sounds like there was a lot of mutual respect. And they're both from the Toronto area. www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/8547828/triumphs-gil-moore-on-neil-peart-rush
My father died when I was 13 and this song kept me alive. I’m a jeep drive’n OIIIIIIIO, guitar playin, kayakin, surfin, carpenter and I when I leave this world, it will be on the wings of a butterfly. So yeah, it’s a good song
Rik Emmett is not only a top notch singer, he's got strong voice he can control at will. It's such a great distinctive voice I believe he should be up there with Dio, Dickinson, Halford, and Tate as far as the top five singers. His guitar playing is a mix of classical blues and rock. He always plays the perfect notes and doesn't waste one. Underrated as anyone could be. He is such a unique talent that you don't see anymore.
I just LOVE watching people's first reactions to great music that I have LOVED for over 40 years in Triumph's case...over 50 years in many others! Nothing but positivity and raw human emotion, combined with a hell of lot of talent!
Triumph is a rabbit hole you have to go down. One of the most underrated bands around. They also have one of your favorite things...a singing drummer .
I get what you're saying Jamel about getting that 'rush' vibe... RUSH... another amazing Canadian rock band 🇨🇦 🎸 🎶 🎵 I absolutely love Triumph! Last I knew, the lead singer Rik Emmett was teaching guitar at a Toronto College. I haven't Googled him recently so not sure if he's still teaching. I met him back in the early 90's at a local mall Scarborough Town Centre at the HMV grand opening. He was such a super nice guy. Very mellow, kind, happy, warm smile, very friendly and approachable, so cool to talk to. I still have his autographed poster from that day. A huge music talent and such a down to earth nice guy. I agree with Jamel, not worth using up your energy on something that has no good, no meaningful or no purposeful benefit to the world, to yourself, to life. Amen 🙏🏼

That's why the name of the band is Triumph: positivity. (Actually they originally named themselves after the motorcycle brand, but for most people it came to be associated with all the positive lyrics.) They never toured on the same bill as Rush, though individual members have worked together in side projects, and they did tour the same circuits and often with the same opening bands. On a personal note, this band's music saved my life. It was a light in very dark places for me when I was a kid. I think a lot of people can say the same. You should do Magic Power or Hold On next, for more positivity.
Joe Balusik,III, Shooting Star did, but I prefer Triumph. Almost no one knew Shooting Star, which is a shame. “Breakout” rocks! “Are You On My Side,” “Last Chance,” and “Hang On For Your Life” are positive songs. “Flesh and Blood” is another I still play. “Hollywood” still gets mentioned. They were pretty unique in their use of violins in rock. A couple of bands did that, but very few.
Joe Balusik,III, I’ve had my tunes playing Shooting Star all afternoon. It’s hard to believe they weren’t bigger. There’s some great musicianship in that band.
IMAGINE...being back in 1980s...the world has always had a lot of music, but not like what happened when we got amps and world tours...enter...Queens Ryche...and enter Triump! Somehow, much of the world missed it. Even You missed it. You my friend are one of the lucky ones...with time You found the knowledge, wisdom, beat, cross-cultural empathy, all of it... And You my friend fell into UA-cam. And thru it all...You finally, after 50 years, have discovered a source of music We have loved. Love for Triumph...its hard to put into words. You see, They Do. Lay it on the Line, Never Surrender,...the band's Moto is music that inspires the strength needed at times to make "thru another day." Let me go deep, I'm in San Antonio Texas. The FIRST TIME Triumph was ever played on the radio in the Country was HERE. WE WERE LIKE..."WTF...WHO WAS...THAT?!!" As I said, IMAGINE. What happened after is Rock History...This City ADOPTED Triumph. When Triumph would tour, the First Spot they would open was Here; sometimes even quietly at first. Some small room somewhere. This city would SHUT DOWN when Triumph came to town. It was an incredible time of love for music, where the divisions we see today just weren't in your face. Seems to me, if division "was always here"...the best way to learn past it is to keep your opinion too yourself. Nothing good to say, don't say anything. Eventually, those racial characters get forgotten. To help bring those insecurities to the surface, as The Trump Party has done is at first energizing (too bad they were not inherently good qualities!), that Hooray! feeling of being involved with others that agree with you...step back...the obvious point I'm making is well, obvious. And now, We have a problem. One much much worse than racism. A Country Divided means a Country broken to the point we can't get anything done. While the Chinese are landing astronauts on the dark side of the moon, or building their first space station, We like the fool's that racism makes of Us, can't see past the things that should be default easy decisions. Now it's "us" vs "them"...stupid. who is "them," your NEIGHBORS?? YES THEY ARE. So we now have Being part of the Problem or Being part of the Solution. Anyhow, Congrats to You for having transcended all this rediculous finger pointing. Able to jump thru time to 1980, put on a "white mans cap" and Rock because it's the Music; and more, the Truth. Too bad more White Men don't recognize what a freedom it is to be Black, traveling in time (You), and Learn. In the end, it's NOT the White Race or Black Race...HELLO: THERE IS ONLY ONE RACE...THE HUMAN RACE. Recognize.
Triumph is my favorite rock band ever. Saw them 3 times in the 80's at Reunion Arena in Dallas. Had tbe privilege to see Rik Emmett along with Dave Dunlop playing acoustic in Houston in 2009. My guitar hero and such a nice guy. We always need positive messages. Ordinary Man was put out there for the world to hear.

@@Deborahtunes Yes but if you remember or look it up, u will find that Triumph used Allied Forces for a few years in the 80's for reasons unknown to me! I saw them in Indianapolis in the mid to late 80's with Golden Earing as the opener and it was billed the "Triumph Allied Forces Never Surrender" tour! Been to a lot of concerts and that show still ranks in my top 10! But this ranking is kinda deceiving due to the fact that ive seen Metallica live 9 times! lol
@@jefffordyce1536 ~ That's probably true. But I'm just talking in terms of the actual release date of the album. Not how many times they used it in their tours. Allied Forces is their biggest selling Lp to date. So it not unreasonable thinking that they would continue to use it in a few more tours. I've seen other bands do the same thing...
@@Deborahtunes Right, but unless im reading your reply wrong(happend before lol) it appears that you were correcting the post you were replying to by saying it couldn't have been Allied forces he remembersd in 83' cause it came out in 81' and damn i think something hit me just now! lol If he was referring to an AF concert in 83' , he is 100% correct but if he was reflecting on the album AF 83' you would be 100% correct in pointing out 81'! lol. "On July 31st, former Triumph guitarist Rik Emmett guested on 101 WRIF, and during the interview he discussed his relationship with Rush guitarist and fellow countryman, Alex Lifeson. Emmett: "Alex and I were always well suited to each other, I think. When Triumph was just a bar band playing The Gasworks on Yonge Street in Toronto, Alex came down to the gig and had a couple of beers and introduced himself to me. We've done guitar workshops together. And, of course, he played on one of my records. I did a record for Mascot / Provogue a few years back - 2016, I think - and Alex played on a couple of tracks. He's a gentleman, he's a tremendous artist. If he had decided he wanted to be a painter, he would have been a great painter. If he'd have been a poet, he would have been a great poet. But, he was a guy that picked up an electric guitar and eventually was in this band. And Rush... we were always riding on their coattails. They were always a bigger thing than us, breaking other markets and playing all over the world. We owed a lot to them."" Speaking from a woman's perspective, I believe that's because Rush delved into a lot of scfi subjects within their lyrics. Generally speaking, females don't get into that as much as males do. Triumph was more about romantic relationships, and lifting up the human spirit in their music. Of course it didn't hurt that Rik Emmett was eye candy for the ladies either...
@@beadybaby ~ 👍 I was in Baltimore. Had floor seats, around the 14th row. I believe I still have my ticket stub from the concert too. Loved the lazer lights incorporated into the show...
Jamel - as far as I know, Rush and Triumph never toured together. They did, however, get their early start around the same time and place (club scene around Toronto) and were familiar with each other before either became famous. In particular, Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson and Triumph guitarist Rik Emmett are longtime friends, who have worked together on numerous projects. Rush and Triumph are often compared because: 1. They are both "power trios" from Canada; 2. Rik's and Geddy's vocals have a somewhat similar quality; 3. Both have blazing, electrifying lead guitar work; 4. Both have a bass player who also plays keyboards. Some significant differences though: 1. Triumph has 2 lead vocalists (drummer GIl Moore sings on some of their harder rocking songs); 2. Triumph did not get into the progressive/thematic/concept material that Rush did; and 3. Starting in the mid/late 80s, Triumph added a 2nd guitarist to their live performances to more closely capture their studio sound, which featured a lot of multi-tracked guitar parts. I saw Triumph twice during their early days when they performed as a 3-piece act (Rik, Mike, GIl) - they were an exciting band to see live, and used a lot of flashing lights and pyrotechnics in their shows. And Rik's guitar work is truly awe-inspiring. Some of my favorites you should check out: "Hold On", "Rock & Roll Machine", "Blinding Light Show", "Magic Power", "24 Hours a Day".
These guys were amazing to see live. I think I saw them 5 or 6 times. I'd love to see them play again!! Fight the Good Fight is my all-time favorite song! Rik Emmett just retired a couple of years ago from solo work. Gil Moore, the drummer, owns Canada's largest recording studio. Mike Levine, the bassist, was amazing. He backed the other two, played keyboards, and interacted with the crowd well. I loved these guys and still listen to their music several times a year.
these are just good guys, too. i won't call them a christian band, but they sure do try to put a positivity out there you didn't find in most mainstream rock.
Yeah, kind of like Shooting Star, but more successful. I wish I’d seen them live. I bought the albums immediately, but my bf at the time was into punk & bands like Devo, The Tubes, Oingo Boingo, the B52s, etc. (weird flex, I know; his lack of appreciation for rock led to our demise as a couple). I enjoyed all those concerts; just glad that the Dead Kennedys and Sex Pistols didn’t tour nearby during that time. I’ve since seen Agent Orange. I was underwhelmed by the music, the performance, and the backstage amenities.
As a proud Canadian I'm so, so proud of Triumph. I've seen them three times and their live show is fantastic. But they are just one of dozens of great Canadian bands that don't get the attention they deserve. Rock on Canada!!!
"Once I thought the Truth was gonna set me free, but now I feel the chains of its responsibility".......""Ordinary Man" has the best lyrics from Triumph
I love Triumph they are from my early teens, great concert seen them in 1993 at a music festival here in Milwaukee Wisconsin called Summerfest. They have 11 days of music of all sort. Different bands every single day. Triumph Rules.
I was lucky enough to see Triumph on their Allied Forces Tour... .not a huge stadium, but one OF THE BEST CONCERTS I've EVER been too. Rik Emmett sings soooo high and plays sooo well... tight band. MAGIC POWER is the one you need to do. Rock On! peace
One of my favourite bands, lucky enough to have seen them play a couple of times. including their last concert prior to their break up September 1988, day show just the band and their instruments and a fond farewell. They were the quintessential Rock and Roll Machine, awesome shows with lights, lasers and explosions en mass. They were a power house live band. Rik Emmett is a guitar GOD, a master of the craft and can play anything, in any style. Gil Moore and Mike Levine weren't too shabby either. Rik was the show.
1987 was when U2 swept North America with the Joshua Tree Tour. It was like Zeppelin sweeping America in 1987 one of the greatest concerts I’ve witnessed. To be 18 again in 1987
They were playing the same places in the same time period but I can't recall them ever touring together. They were from the same area of Southern Ontario about an hour apart as home base as I recall. Great band in their own right...now Roller by April Wine...believe me worth it!!!
I remember seeing "Triumph" several times back in the 80's - they had probably one of the best light shows at the time - they even used runway lights to basically blind the audience although we didn't care in the least - I'm sure I even lost some of my hearing at their shows but it was absolutely some of the best times of my young life - I miss those great Rock shows
u need to hear the studio version of this song as well...its just has such a profound message and powerful sound..with the voice on top of the mountain...clearly designed to inspire us in life
Love Triumph. Love this song. Love this version of it. Loved your commentary on it. This channel reminds me how I felt when I listened to this song (and its many siblings and cousins) in the 80s and early 90s (and the 70s for some of its older cousins). This channel IS the good fight, or at least part of it. Keep doing your thing Jamel; love your work.
Again, I am blown away by how good triumph was at performing live. Such a solid song and very true to the studio version, with just enough improvisation.
As a Detroiter, these Canadian rock bands were very popular because we could receive the Windsor and sometimes Toronto radio waves. And, talent prevails so the Detroit rock stations knew of the growing popularity and gave them airplay.
I had my mom watch some of your videos today and she said “I’m so glad this generation is discovering the olden goldies” 🤣 Typical Mama, always close but not quite right.
I once went to a concert (this is the 80s) where Triumph opened, watched them and left to another concert for another headliner. In houston in the 80s, we had headliners at 2 or 3 locations for years. Triumph is the best live band I've ever seen. Have you heard the drummer sing? Nobody even thinks about this band anymore, and it's criminal. No radio airplay. Check out their Live Aid performance. And Spellbound live.
I'd like to correct Rik Emmet. He said, "nothing good is free" but I'm not paying to watch your channel, and it's good. Also, Magic Power. That Triumph song could be about you.
@Rob Otto "He said, "nothing good is free" but I'm not paying to watch your channel, and it's good." Your electric and internet bill. Sorry dude but the phrase "nothing is free" is absolutely true.
Rob Otto, If you like the channel, but don’t want to/can’t afford to pay, you can let the ads run to help out Jamel. You don’t have to watch or listen to them. Just let them play while you’re brushing your teeth, or whatever.

Seen these guys three times in Hollywood Florida in the 80's. Amazing show and stage show. The lasers and light you were always wowed when you saw Triumph!!
Please tell me magic power is coming.......
Came here just to say this! I think he will love the lyrics to that song especially 💙
Please!!!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
We need to start a partition lol. The 83 US festival version is awesome, best version. I've met Gil Moore, great musicians
Oh h*ll yes !!!!!!
Chad Carden I feel like the lyrics of that song sum up everything his reaction channel is allowed
Rock and Roll lives and breathes in the Hearts of the young ♥ TRIUMPH FOREVER ROCKS!
i saw these guys in the 80s it was an awsome show no auto tune just a great voice
Rush was like the brother who had a nicer car, prettier girlfriend, more money and cooler friends...... :)
"The Ladies I Love are living in the USA. Talking about American Girls !! I'll have her home by 11 o'clock I promise! " AMERICAN GIRLS !!

I second, third, and fourth that!

Digging the Canadian rock brother! they were a hell of a band in the day, stay safe, appreciate the videos!!!

I get what you're saying Jamel about getting that 'rush' vibe... RUSH... another amazing Canadian rock band 🇨🇦 🎸 🎶 🎵
I absolutely love Triumph!

Glad you’re well now. They have definitely helped a lot of people with their positivity.
No other band wrote such powerfully positive songs...that rocked on top of it.
Joe Balusik,III,
Shooting Star did, but I prefer Triumph.
@@beachgirl4583 I have their greatest hits discs. Big fan of "Touch Me Tonight"; killer track IMHO.
Joe Balusik,III,
I’ve had my tunes playing Shooting Star all afternoon.
Recognize.
Triumph is awesomely talented!!! They’re definitely worth checking out some more!
If you wanna check out his voice listen to the song Hold On.
Rock Out, Roll On. It might be the best rock anthem ever recorded, and Rik hits some high notes.
I love your reaction videos. I loved Triumph. Especially as it's been 30 years since I heard this song but remember it like it was yesterday. Thank you for bringing me good memories of my HS days.
Keep it up, Jamel. Triumph is one of the best power trios, ever.
@Glen Cox originally there were only 3. They realized they had to hire somebody to cover the rhythm guitar parts when they did live shows.
Triumph - Rock and Roll Machine (studio). One of the greatest guitar solos ever. Will blow you away.
Another Great Canadian band. Rik Emmitt is an amazing guitar player he also a great voice

Triumph "Allied Forces".
Except *Allied Forces* came out in 1981...

"On July 31st, former Triumph guitarist Rik Emmett guested on 101 WRIF, and during the interview he discussed his relationship with
Rush guitarist and fellow countryman, Alex Lifeson.
We owed a lot to them.""

So many more women at Triumph concerts than Rush concerts. I’ve been lucky enough to see them both. Love from rainy Alaska!
Speaking from a woman's perspective, I believe that's because Rush delved into a lot of scfi subjects within their lyrics. Generally speaking, females don't get into that as much as males do.
Triumph was more about romantic relationships, and lifting up the human spirit in their music. Of course it didn't hurt that Rik Emmett was eye candy for the ladies either...

Truly solid riffs and hooks. And don't forget they have a drummer who is an amazing singer in his own right, up there with Rik Emmett.

That's a good song but Magic Power is their best song.
Triumph songs always had a message which really resonated with their fans. My all-time favorite group in the 80's. 🥰
these are just good guys, too. i won't call them a christian band, but they sure do try to put a positivity out there you didn't find in most mainstream rock.
I'm 61 and have seen everyone. Saw the show he posted . I saw it in Detroit. Still the best show ever : )
As a proud Canadian I'm so, so proud of Triumph. I've seen them three times and their live show is fantastic. But they are just one of dozens of great Canadian bands that don't get the attention they deserve. Rock on Canada!!!

Love Triumph!! So glad you’re playing their songs! Love his voice love this band! You need to listen to Blinding Light Show!!
I remember seeing "Triumph" several times back in the 80's - they had probably one of the best light shows at the time - they even used runway lights to basically blind the audience although we didn't care in the least - I'm sure I even lost some of my hearing at their shows but it was absolutely some of the best times of my young life - I miss those great Rock shows
One of my favorite bands, and 🎵 songs, EVER!!!

Again, I am blown away by how good triumph was at performing live. Such a solid song and very true to the studio version, with just enough improvisation.
My very first concert was Triumph....will never forget it.
Magic Power, Follow Your Heart and Never Surrender should be required listening! 🤘🏻
Rik Emmett, the lead singer and guitarist wrote it for his grandmother who had breast cancer.
Love the message in this song. Thank you soooo much; I've been requesting this for so long. Such an amazing band; never got the credit they deserve.
