    Best decision in 8 years of regular surfing: going back to a bigger board. I always wanted to go smaller smaller smaller, and I guess I went to a smaller board too fast. I was catching waves and practicing manoeuvres, but I never was satisfied by my wave count. Then I found a good deal on a 8.2 mini longboard and man, my surfing improved tremendously and so did my wavecount and technique. The best of all, is that it all transitioned to my shortboard surfing too!

    Good stuff man..theres always too much emphasis in the surf tutorial community about progressing to smaller boards but never considering you need the right board for the right wave, small boards on bigger waves, big boards on smaller waves....that big cheap foamie is always gonna have its use on small crowded days...

    i surf with a 9 feed longboard, I feel comfortable with it, where I live (barranco, Lima, Perú) we have small waves so it becomes perfect ... If you can do more videos about longboarding, I will appreciate it ... cheers

    What are your thoughts on the firewire style boards? They claim to be great for all kinds of surf conditions, and pretty buoyant.

      I have had the NB 1 and 3, both are fun boards. I liked the NB3 in slightly better waves...

    I'm 6'1, ~96kg. As a beginner, now I'm using a 9.0ft foamy after months with a sup. I'm struggling a lot trying to paddle as the board feels really wobbly. Would It be my skill level, my weight or maybe adaptation? When I manage to drop riding the wave feels normal though. I appreciate your input.

      So many variables, it is hard to say. Given that a 9ft foamie should be pretty buoyant, I would suggest it could be fitness related?

    • @TheSurfersJourney
      @TheSurfersJourney  2 місяці тому

      Could also be your paddling technique

    I have a question. Im 6,1 and if i buy a long shortboard like 6,4, does that allow me to float better?

    • @TheSurfersJourney
      @TheSurfersJourney  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Mike, generally speaking yes. Boards with more volume = more buoyancy.

    • @TheSurfersJourney
      @TheSurfersJourney  3 роки тому +1

      It is definitely easier to learn on a long board, most people start on one...Some people never get off one though because they enjoy it.

      @@TheSurfersJourney i honestly love being on a long board. I want to learn to cross step but I’m having an issue riding down the line. Also thank you so much because you always respond 😭✨🙏🏾.

    Epoxy boards don't float more than regular polyester boards. The Archimedean laws are the same for every object in the water it's just in your head 😉. However great video !

    • @TheSurfersJourney
      @TheSurfersJourney  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Axel, the way they feel and react is certainly different to poly boards.

    • @skipme2081
      @skipme2081 2 роки тому +4

      Hi Axel, that is not quite true. In comparison, Epoxy boards are generally lighter than their PU boards, so there is less weight to carry, resulting in more boyancy. Its the same thing if you have a 1-litre steel ball vs a 1-litre air balloon. One is going to submerge while the other is not.

      Best boards for Scheveningen is a longboard for most days, and a midlength or fat fish when it gets good. You can shortboard there, and many do, but wave count goes way down and it can hinder progression
