Thank you for what you said at 3:23. I am so tired of people telling me I am not real gamer, because I prefer easy/story difficulty. The mythic path guides were really useful, especially the devil. Now I will not run around panicking with my current character, looking everywhere on the map and not understanding why I cannot find it (I chose to be a lich for the first ascension). I usually don't comment on videos, because of how needlesly rude people can be. But! you are always so respectful (and informative), that I felt, it is safe the join the discussion. If I ever work up the courage, I might comment on some of your other videos. < 3
tbh even if i cant realy understand it (maybe bcs i actually play the table top) there is no shame in playing the game on low difficulty just to enjoy the story.
Especially the pathfinder games can be so funny to play on lower difficulty. I've beaten the game on hardest difficulty without to much problems since I spend literally days on creaating min/max builds and exploiting everything. But since finishing it once I'm just playing on normal or casual mode and make really funny jank builds. There are so much funny builds than those who spent the first 2 minutes on every map to just cast the buffs on every character. Especially since the classes have a very different power level and classes like the swort saint have special abilities that deal with the problems you have on the highest difficulty.
Brought the game when it was release, brought all the DLC but i could never finish Act 2 because there are too many things that I don't understand in the game and I'm relying too much on YT guides, This Video really helps learning about the basics and In my next Run of the game I have more understanding on whats more happening and try to play without always consulting on online guides, Thank You!!
After struggling with Pathfinder for a while, I stumbled upon this video and it helped me a lot. Now I have completed the game and it's become one of my favorites, so thanks for making it easier for some of us :)
Great video! Would love an 'Intermediate player's guide' to help cover the mid and high levels of the game, and what's important to success at that part of the game. Low level PF plays a lot like DnD, and the concepts are simple, but once you get to level 10 or so, and you have so many abilities and levels to play with, it's hard determine what's important and not important.
Even tho I love this CRPG games and I'm actually playing WOTR right now. God, the entry to these kind of games is hardcore af, a 2 hour video guide om how to start the game is honestly crazy.
This video actually made me feel better about dying hopelessly time and time again. I picked a core difficulty thinking this is how the game is supposed to be played and I regularly run into situations that easily, if do not kill the entire party outright, kill at least 1 or 2 characters. And ress scrolls/diamonds are a royal pain to bring and use. If this game is not designed to be playable purely on good tactics and choices, and you are left on the mercy of the RNG, then I am fine with lowering the difficulty without hurting my pride.
For poison: you can suppress the effects of poison with delay poison. It will usually expire by the time the spell is over. Even better: preventively using delay poison makes a character immune to poison and that spell lasts a long time.

Just bought this game today and it's quite overwhelming. So much classes and features. Definitely glad i found this video to help understand the features.
I’m a veteran of the system and I always watch these videos because sometimes there are little details I miss. Like extra enemies giving more xp, I hadn’t even considered it (though it obviously makes sense.) I also keep an eye on them as easy crash courses for table top players. Obviously not all applicable but a lot of the mechanical stuff is the same.
This is a FANTASTIC video! I’ve watched your channel for a long time, starting with your DOS2 content, and I know you have the same love for WotR. I’m not familiar with the Pathfinder system so I’ve been overwhelmed with all of the mechanics, keeping me from really enjoying the game, but this guide is exactly what I needed. Thanks dude and congrats on the recent YT successes so far!
By default, this game runs in real time with pause mode. Playing as that, I found this game quite hard even on normal dificulty. Changing it to turn based mode made the game A LOT easier. And the most curious thing about this is the fact that A LOT of skills/spells that seemed to be useless while playing the game in real time, became increadible usefull while playing on turn based. Certainly because the pathfinder system was built to be played in turns, so, not all skills/abilities/spells would translate well in a real time scenario.
@@azku Yeah, that's what I usally do. RTwP for trash mobs, dealing with them only using normal auto attacks and TB when dealing with bosses OR when I want to experiment something new (new build, new spell/skill, etc). As it happens with D&D, in PF your characters become reaaaaaally strong as their level increases, and that's what I love in these systems, the tangible feeling of power progression. A LVL1 wizard is weaker than a bug, but a LVL 20 wizard is like the personification of the armageddon.
And i thought the Dark Souls series was the most cryptic and confusing (yet fun) game to play. Thanks for this guide, it's certainly invaluable and highly appreciated!
Great video! As someone who used to wait for a console release I can imagine how happy I'd be finding such video around the time I'm about to play the game. Thank you very much. Watching even though I already learned most of this
Late to the party, about to buy the game on sale and found this a good intro course. I remain very impressed with your ability to deliver concise information with minimal spoilers!
Thanks for this! After playing and enjoying Rogue Trader (first Owlcat experience) and seeing WOTR get a "full package" release recently, I started to think it's time to try a bit of Pathfinder. After watching the character creation part of this intro, I think I'll mull it over for another wee while before I jump in. As soon as you clicked the Feats screen my brain did a full restart, and by the time I regained awareness you were talking about something else. This looks BIG. Give me a minute to prepare mentally.
Late to the party here. I've never made it past chapter 3, basically I've found that I want to do something different. Many of you can relate. But now, my current play through, for the first time I'm using turn-based combat. I find this to be much more fun AND now many of the Feats and stats make sense. Initiative, Movement Base, Quick Draw etc etc make sense and have their uses!
Thanks for this, I had planned to watch your earlier stuff on WotR before the console release, this is a bonus. I had put Kingmaker aside for a bit while I cleared Solasta (the kingdom management was becoming a bit much in Kingmaker, I've automated it since last night), but have now thrown myself back into it and hope to clear it in time for WotR. Many thanks again, this will help so much.
Thanks for the guide! Finally got this game after really enjoying Kingmaker. I appreciate you mentioning how it’s okay to play on any difficulty. I’d actually rather play on casual or even normal than story but. I remember some encounters in Kingmaker being bullshit for me even on story, and I’d rather have fun and get the story. I can always replay on a higher difficulty later
Your speech about the difficulty is really meant a lot to me.. because i always play normal and sometimes i feel stupid after looking people playing in hard or above mode.. 😂😂 thanks
Thank you for this very informative and easy to understand video! I started playing WotR a couple weeks ago without knowing the pathfinder system, and now I feel like I could probably change the difficulty to daring, and that’s mostly because I’ve been watching your videos on classes, combat, spellcasting etc. Subscribed, of course!
Pathfinder wotr, is important to me as well op. Seem like a good dude just trying to help others enjoy this wonderful game. Keep making content. You've earned this sub.
I already sunk 300+ hours into the game, so there was not too much new information. Still concise, interesting, and I still learned a few new things. Always a pleasure.
Love the content! I’ve recently started my journey and im loving the game. BG3 was my first introduction to D&D and that felt overwhelming at first. But, I feel all of that was the perfect starting point to not be overwhelmed by this game. It feels like a natural progression for people like me who discovered this universe through BG3. So for me, the barrier to entry feels non existent and I hope other people who need to scratch that BG3 itch find this well.
Glad its helpful, worth mentioning that this is not the same universe as DnD though. Pathfinder uses a different ruleset and setting. This game uses Pathfinder 1e specfically.
I love WOTR! Thank you for putting this guide together in a clear and comprehensive way. The metamagic section was very helpful. As always, the content you produce continues to be informative.
Thank you for uploading this video, as a casual D&D enjoyer it was overwhelming the character creation, I created a human cleric and decided not to show the flaming sword to the village and now I feel guilty, hopefully after this video I'll get a better grasp
So I came from Rogue Trader and since I really love that game, I wanted to see owlcat previous games. And I'm glad of the work they made to make Rogue Trader more comprehensible. It truly is a blessing. Pwotr seems absolutely insane to understand and to just get into which is a big problem for a crpg, it's a genre that need to survive. You can make a deep game without being very hard to understand and appreciate. So thank you Mortismal for this video that helps a lot
The annoying thing about Core difficulty is that it's the base pathfinder rules (or as close to it as possible) as you said. However, enemies are scaled up to be as much as twice or higher the CR they would be in tabletop (plus they get other bonuses too!). I originally went with Core difficulty when playing the game and was shocked to see how much more powerful everything I fought was compared to what I was familiar with. It's like they expected people to save scum and minmax like crazy and designed encounters around that. So, if you want to play using the base rules (normal crits, 100% damage taken), but don't want to deal with massively buffed enemies, it takes some research and knowledge to craft a custom difficulty.
I've seen you mention this game so many times that I'm now buying it, I loved BG3 even though I don't like turn based stuff that much so I'm giving this a chance.
I bought the game on steam’s spring sale and I don’t know if I should regret it or not. I’m 6 hours into the game and it’s just too much. The only CRPGs I played and finished are Divinity: OS 1&2. And compared to them, WotR is needlessly complex. Even with the custom difficulty settings, it’s still doesn’t feel fun if you don’t understand how anything works. I wanted an immersive experience to get lost in for a few hours after long hard day and I don’t think this game is doing it for me. At least not right now. But I won’t give up on it just yet. Thanks for the video, Mort!
Great timing. I bought PF WOTR at the last Steam sale but been scared to try it as I’ve only play D&D 5e so far. After this I’ll finally give it a go. Thanks.
Great video! I've been following you since the game's release last year so I've watched most of your WOTR videos already, but I think this is a great resource for new players. Hopefully this will become the definitive new player's guide for the game (and get your channel some more much deserved exposure).
I've been playing some form of D&D since '82. Playing Pathfinder since it came out. Long-term WoW player as well. Hoping this is the intersection of the two. Thanks for the guide. The game will be here Friday
ok so i had a character from core difficulty i thought id learn the game.... 239 hours later im still in act three and hit a wall so this video is gonna save me thank you so much! this is so well done! I do think im gonna restart the game on a lower difficulty to learn
This game is ruthless on higher diffs, even the normal diff is quite a challenge. On the highest diff the game becomes pure mathematics, where I did feel there is only one right way to build a char, one right spell setup etc
I enjoyed the couple hours i played. im happy my tobii eyetracker works on this game. i never played ttrpg until i couldn't use my arms. But i love them now
I have played Kingmaker but never felt like I mastered the game. And this game seems to have alot of new things. It's perfect to have this for console release :)
I got this games like a month and a half ago and havent quite started really yet besides making about 12 characters and playing throught the first area, I knew I was waiting for a reason and that was reason was this video, also first again lol
There are a few beginner things - seemingly small things that do a lot. The most important one for me was, to immediately after you get a new companion, go into his skills, spells, etc. Always when you get someone new (especially spell casters) a lot of their spell slots will be empty. It's immediately felt with Sosiel, you will get him and think he's not very usefull until you realise he has a lot of spells, especially helpfull summon monster and elemental spells evening the odds. Overall the key rule I feel to this game is, that you really get all the tools you need to beat any situation, just open your eyes, look at the tools and use them wisely. There is always a spell, tactic, formation, etc. To beat the current situation. You are weaker than the opponents you fight and your characters will die unless you play smart and learn.
I have 266hrs in WoTR and atleast half of those hours were spent making like 30+ characters and just figuring out the game A guide like this would've been real great at the beginning
I’m a huge noob with Pathfinder but I’m trying this one out. I don’t understand what’s so fun about 1,000 options and stats to tinker around with in character creation. But maybe soon, I’ll love 1,000 options and stats to tinker around with in character creation.
Great Timing for this with the console release / enhanced edition coming out. Already have 250 hours myself on PC but this isnt exactly the most easy game to get into.
Wow the timing, just got this and I am feeling lost. Not going to lie, its a bit of a rough start for me but I hope with the insight from your video I will better appreciate/understand the game lol. Thank you for your work!

For someone who's tried to start 4/5 playthroughs in the past year on PC but bounced off everytime, I can't describe how MASSIVE of a help this video is. Was always looking for something akin to this. Thank you so much!!! ❤️❤️
@@trodgerable-u4i Very good point.
@@trodgerable-u4i Good point! I play tabletop rpgs as well, this thought never crossed my mind. :D
Beta
26:00 "Going to bring up a tab and if you don't know what you're looking at means nothing". lol, exactly why I'm here. I love these complex games and it's a joy trying to figure everything out.
Thanks for your guide, it's enjoyable thus far and I expect to really appreciate the next 80 minutes as I delve into this game. Thanks again.
This is the first game in this genre i have ever played. I have only played a few hours and was completely overwhelmed this really made in a lot easier to understand. Thank you so much
This is exactly why I am here as well😄
Play divinity original sin 2 ....that game is on
Same
Oh my goodness has [your gift giving holiday of choice] come early? Thank you for this!
Man you're amazing! I'm waiting for a console release and this is going to be a life saver. I remember playing Kingmaker, I was so lost and the game was incredibly confusing for me for like 20-30 hours until I felt comfortable playing and ended up restarting it. You are going to help many people, including me. Thank you so much for your work and I hope you're feeling better!
September 2 for Ps4 release
@@joeymacaroni4498 I think you meant 29th
Correct. It got delayed.
omfg that's too long
@@joeymacaroni4498 only moved from the beginning to the end of the month. Tbh I would rather they don't release it until it runs well. I couldn't finish kingmaker as kept crashing every 10mins in the last act. I ended up rage quitting and watched the ending on YT. I was playing it on my ps5 as well. After originally giving up on my PS4 Pro due to the load times, but the ps5 sped that up drastically.
I just keep recommending this guide to all my friends who just got tired playing BG3 and wanting to try WOTR.
This is amazing, been keeping an eye on this game for awhile. This will be my first pathfinder so this is incredibly helpful.
Good luck. I've taken part-time semester modules that are less complicated than this game.
@@windblownleaf6450 So true haha!
Listening to this at work. Getting super pumped to take on Pathfinder's hardest boss, character creation.
Thank you for your detailed and practical guides! It saves even experienced gamers a bit of headache when first diving into this system.
Excited to try this finally on PlayStation. I hope it clicks with me😁 Your videos are so helpful, keep it up! ✊🏽
Binge watching all of your pathfinder content. I love longform videos and I appreciate all the effort you put into this!
Aiming area spells in real time is a bitch.
I still love the Chaos of Real Time in these Games. It's Perfect for People that already know the Game inside and out and exploiting A.I.
Being able to change it on the fly is a big plus for me.
I can use RTWP in easy fights and swap to turn based for hard fights.
Watching even though I already learned most of this
Such a complex games requires such an in depth video made by the wotr goat himself.
It's likely my "I'm on the fence about Pathfinder" comment on another video didn't spur this video, but the timing is impeccable!
😅 Pathfinder has always seemed super overwhelming but this Guide does an amazing job.
THANK YOU!
Great guide to pathfinder. From what I've seen, they did a phenomenal job replicating this campaign to video game orm
Wow, what an amazing piece of work! Thank you for this sir!
@@MortismalGaming very good to know!! I appreciate your knowledge on all of this. Having that context really does make the experience better.
Thank you for this! I've not had great luck getting into the Pathfinder games but maybe I should give this one a try again.
I love WOTR! Thank you for putting this guide together in a clear and comprehensive way. The metamagic section was very helpful. As always, the content you produce continues to be informative.
Thank you for uploading this video, as a casual D&D enjoyer it was overwhelming the character creation, I created a human cleric and decided not to show the flaming sword to the village and now I feel guilty, hopefully after this video I'll get a better grasp
as a super new player...those mythic paths immediately made me interested. thats a nice idea
Wotr is an amazing experience, definitely worthy of one of the best crpgs ever.
That is sadly an issue with pathfinder in general in my experience.
It is built around min-maxed cheese, to the point of min-max or die.
@@tomleary508 That's 3.5e in a nutshell.
I've seen you mention this game so many times that I'm now buying it, I loved BG3 even though I don't like turn based stuff that much so I'm giving this a chance.
I LOVE the interface design of the character creation screen, I wish there was a website like that for PF2e resources
As a console player glad you are thinking of us
jumping into this game after beating baldurs gate 3, thankfully this guide is here to help
So glad i found this game. BG3 was great, but i really love the enhanced depth and complexity of Pathfinder.
I ve been searching for a reason to buy this game as it seems a bit daunting at first, now i ve got a reason thanks mate
watching your video thinking of getting this game for my birthday thank u for putting out content likr this for us all.
Thank you so much for this! WoTR has been the next game I'll be playing and this is super helpful.
Great timing. I bought PF WOTR at the last Steam sale but been scared to try it as I’ve only play D&D 5e so far. After this I’ll finally give it a go. Thanks.
Hey I have been trying to get WotR lately and this has been super helpful. Thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you as well!
Thank you for your amazing guide, just bought the game and this video comes pop into my mind first
OK, I've just picked this up for PlayStation. Fingers crossed, here goes!
Great video! I've been following you since the game's release last year so I've watched most of your WOTR videos already, but I think this is a great resource for new players. Hopefully this will become the definitive new player's guide for the game (and get your channel some more much deserved exposure).
Thank you this is helping my brother get into the game and it’s a great refresher for me and makes me wana go give kingmaker another try
I've been playing some form of D&D since '82. Playing Pathfinder since it came out. Long-term WoW player as well. Hoping this is the intersection of the two. Thanks for the guide. The game will be here Friday
Finished my first game an hour ago. Paladin/Aeon. Very bittersweet ending for true Aeon. Awesome game!
This game’s UI is BEAUTIFUL!
Yes but unfortunately the UI is illegible on the Steam Deck. 😢
ok so i had a character from core difficulty i thought id learn the game....
Gotta keep this video in my mind when i finally get the game on console, i just hope this conversion is better than kingmaker at release.
I enjoyed the couple hours i played. im happy my tobii eyetracker works on this game. i never played ttrpg until i couldn't use my arms. But i love them now
Great video. Its obvious that you put a lot of effort just so you can help and get new people into the game.
I have played Kingmaker but never felt like I mastered the game. And this game seems to have alot of new things. It's perfect to have this for console release :)
I never finished this game. I plan on going back to it once I have had my fill of BG3. Gonna watch this vid to get a refresher on everything. :)
I just started playing the game (thanks to your channel), thank you for this video!
You know the game is great when it takes just about 20 minutes to understand its difficulty level settings. Thanks 🙏
I knew most of the info given, but this was still helpful and very easy to follow. Good video.
Your guide is awesome. Ill probably have to come back once i play a little more but ive got enough info to get a good start, or so i wanna believe😂
I got this games like a month and a half ago and havent quite started really yet besides making about 12 characters and playing throught the first area, I knew I was waiting for a reason and that was reason was this video, also first again lol
I swear, if you like Baldurs Gate 3, like deep stories, play this Game! It is one of the best RPG's i ever played
The character building seems pretty daunting. Is it enjoyable playing it on turn based normal difficulty? Console player here unfortunately
Depending what you, pick, it really is not as bad. It is really rewarding @@zgraca3jr
Two hours! My god. And I'm gonna watch it all...
I have 266hrs in WoTR and atleast half of those hours were spent making like 30+ characters and just figuring out the game
A guide like this would've been real great at the beginning
Thanks! Was looking for a super deep guide, appreciate it
I’m a huge noob with Pathfinder but I’m trying this one out. I don’t understand what’s so fun about 1,000 options and stats to tinker around with in character creation.
But maybe soon, I’ll love 1,000 options and stats to tinker around with in character creation.
Here for your excellent takes. And the game is excellent.
This was very helpful. Started it last night and didn't know what the hell is going on. Lol. Thanks
Great Timing for this with the console release / enhanced edition coming out. Already have 250 hours myself on PC but this isnt exactly the most easy game to get into.
Great guide. In fact, it’s a great primer for 3.5e D&D. +1
Meta Magic helped me so much! Thank you!
Intructions unclear I am now playing a human male fighter
Just bought the game, wish me luck. Gonna do more research than I did for my degree
Thanks, this is exactly what I need as a new player.
Wow the timing, just got this and I am feeling lost. Not going to lie, its a bit of a rough start for me but I hope with the insight from your video I will better appreciate/understand the game lol. Thank you for your work!
