    I just have to say your setup is WILD. After much deliberation on the topic, you have convinced me to get a dual stick setup. I have been on the fence, playing mouse + keyboard, but I read the dual Thrustmaster 16000M is good for the money and have found a good Star Citizen setup guide. Thanks again for the inspiration!

      I'm probably four months too late, but if you're going to spend the money on dual T16000M's the honest recommendation is to save up a little more for dual VKB Gladiator NXT EVO's with the Space Combat Grip instead. Not only are the materials better quality overall, the points of "failure" are easily fixed as the Premium Edition has replacement springs and VKB's support is out of this world with how quick they are to get replacement parts shipped to you.
      Different story if you're living in the UK, obviously.

    How do you make the minijoy pull double duty as a hat in the virpil software?
    NM got it:
    In the Virpil software with the Constellation Alpha loaded:
    Go to the axis tab
    double click the Rx axis
    Check the 0-20 check box and 80-100 check box and click save
    repeat for the Ry axis
    click save to device and wait for the device to be reloaded
    go to the button tab
    In the lower left of this screen look at the button locations and scroll to the bottom
    Note the physical button numbers
    in the button assignment list select the first unassigned button and type in the physical button assignments for the Ry and Rx ranges for the first four unassigned buttons clicking save for each one.
    Click save to device at the top of the software.

    I’ve invested into 2 extra monitors that aren’t that good, 2 flight sticks and mounts, dreamview monitor lights, and an eye tracker just for SC and I ask myself every time I play when I’m going to regret all that money I spent.. then I see something like this and I feel better lol
    Don’t get me wrong. Setup is sick and I’m sure translates to other flight sims relatively easily, and I still love the game and await its release in all its developed and optimized glory, but I didn’t spend half as much as a lot of other citizens haha

  • @eltreum1

    Cool overview. I kind of do something similar on HOTAS then HOSAS. Left stick is translational strafes and accessory actions, right is rotational axis and combat/target interactions. For my CH and new VKB setup I doubled up the landing gear/auto land buttons like the KB default does and did the same with docking mode/auto dock. Tap is the mode/gear toggle and holding is the auto land/dock. For now you can only initiate docking mode while the merlin has the connie targeted and is approved while large ships with stations auto starts it after ATC gives docking clearance and marks a port. I only have a hammerhead so I have not tried the docking camera out but imagine its useful on side dock ports like the 890j.
    I do the space sim thing and fly goofy foot with yaw on the stick and had roll on HOTAS pedals. Once I got the dual VKB sticks I got rid of pedals and use twist roll but a large part of that and having yaw on stick was the CH pedals. They are built like tanks but not comfortable for long space dogfighting where yaw is more useful than a real plane plus CH is very low sensitivity at 8bit making it as imprecise as just using the KB. In regular flight sims the CH works fine for its purpose but didn't cut it for SC.
    I am mulling getting the VKB pedals because they tag along with either stick for free and not a separate device to the OS/SC. I want to leave 2 HOTAS slots open for my custom control panels. I will be using 2 microcontrollers as USB inputs and they will have secondary controls independent of the OS for some lighting control and way to virtually rewire some controls without the OS knowing it to make virtual layers or game profiles. I am trying to use MCs without shim software like vjoy or JS gremlin to see if its doable.

    • @AfterimageFlight
      @AfterimageFlight  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah for simplicity sake if you can avoid VJoy and Gremlin it is a lot cleaner. That sounds like a good idea for the pedals.

    Once you have a setup, its really just all about making it feel right to you, there is no real all purpose setup, people need to program the controls how they feel comfortable and then analyze and adjust on any fails or weak points. It’s something that the individual needs to go through them selves. However with that said, you want to start from the standard pilot control setup for a plane or helicopter, and not just make something totally wack

    Seems like an awful lot of trouble to go through just for speed and accel limiters when you can just use custom sensitivity curves for the same effect, and it applies to ALL axes unlike the speed limiter which leaves out at least the roll axis, if not more.

    • @AfterimageFlight
      @AfterimageFlight  2 роки тому

      No clue on that one other than the standard stuff; check if the axis is working from the joysticks in Windows or another game, try binding the axis to something like on foot movement and see if it gets a response. After that, try deleting the user folder and start the keybinds from scratch. It should just bind and work without issue.

    • @AfterimageFlight
      @AfterimageFlight  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks. Certain inputs are treated as axis inputs, and others buttons. What I do is either use the VirPil software to make an axis trigger an additional button on the stick, or use joystick gremlin to have the axis trigger a virtual joystick button. It is just a matter of mapping it after that. So for example, lean is a digital function, so I have additional buttons assigned to the X-Axis on my left stick in the VirPil software. Depending on your controllers you might need to use the software it has or Joystick gremlin.

    • @AfterimageFlight
      @AfterimageFlight  2 роки тому +2

      The difference basically comes down to where you plan to use it and how much range of motion you want. The WarBRD has more range of motion because it's designed first to be used sitting on a desk, but because of that extra range of motion it is not designed to take extensions (it can, but if you mount it using the mounts they have, the extensions can cause the top of the stick to hit the edge). If I recall correctly, the MT50 has 16 degrees of motion and the WarBRD has 22.
      They have different ways of adjusting the springs and they use different cams as well, but they otherwise have the same functionality. The MT50 base can be adjusted by popping off some covers and adjusting pre-tensioners. The WarBRD base has to be opened.
      I am using WarBRD bases, using the default cams, with heavy springs on custom mounts.

    Any chance you have a PDF for your dual stick bindings so I can use it as reference?

      For the sticks and pedals, buying them. For just about everything else making it from scratch. Check the community posts on the channel and these playlists:

    Not EVERYTHING needs to be VTOL. If the craft was designed with wheels, it should be expected to require them. Also... Why does EVERY ship in game have the same AR HUD? Shouldn't it be a different experience flying a Bucc than a 600i?

    Awesome man! Really well thought out. I love binding my controls but SC is overwhelming and would take me all damn day if I couldn’t use your general scheme and good ideas as a starting point. The 2 stage boost/limit release is 🤌🏻
