I used to live in Gerrards Cross, & I saw Roy Castle a few times & he was not at all show bizzy, he was just like anyone else, very down to earth.

As I kid I knew him on Record Breakers. Each time I see a clip of him now he just seems to be more and more versatile. What a talent!

Your Dad was very versatile. Actor, comedian, TV presenter, musician, dancer...he had lots of charisma and of course, to quote a word from his ending song from "Record Breakers"... dedication.

TV was a lonelier place without Roy, I was very sad when he passed away.

Brilliant! My Dad was a drummer and he'd have loved this!

Brilliant. Drums sound amazing, but I think my favourite part is when Roy tap steps into the drum seat. Perfect rhythm. Deeply envious!

Get yourself a pair of tap shoes Eanna and let the rhythmic sauntering begin!

@@BenCastleTV Excellent idea! Full tap mastery is unlikely, but surely 'rhythmic sauntering' can be attempted...

Loved to see all these talents play Trixon drums - made in my hometown Hamburg/Germany. The company did'nt survive the 60s and one of the endorsers was fabulous Phil Seaman

Now that’s how to do a drum battle! Entertaining and musical!
Roy Castle was always one of our most versatile entertainers
And the story about Phil Seaman in the video info is typical Phil; a gifted musician who sadly never conquered his demons

Amazing! Found this by accident while searching for Phil Seamen footage. I have fond memories of watching your Dad on Record Breakers etc during my childhood and used to enjoy his tap dancing and trumpet but I had somehow forgotten his drumming skills . So many happy memories are attached to the name Roy Castle.

Just to add to my earlier comment about Roy Castle, he came into the Budgen supermarket in Station road in Gerrards Cross where I was working at the time in December 1986, at a time when there was a lot of snow.
As he entered the store I was by the entrance where I was refilling a shelf, & I had my back to him, & I heard him say to me - 'when are they bringing the dinghies in?'
He made the comment because all of the previous customers had come in leaving a pool of melted snow on the shop floor, but I think that it was typical of him, as said before, despite his fame, he was very down to earth & he would chat to the public.

Thanks Dave, glad you enjoyed it. I know they had to find a spare kit at the last minute for Phil Seaman, who turned up with some toy drums, claiming to have lost his own kit.

Wondered why the bass had JP on it ( Jack Parnell Orchestra - wasnt it Val who normally played ?)

    • @BenCastleTV
      @BenCastleTV  Рік тому

I think it was for the names of the drummers in the clip and it was Jack on drums. I don't think Val played in the band. He was usually the one putting on the shows. I may be wrong though as it was a fair bit before my time.
