Kid (and his “rivalry” with Luffy) reminds me of all the basketball players who got compared to Michael Jordan in their hs/college careers and then inevitably fell short the moment they hit the big leagues. He’s like the OP version of Harold Miner.
For me the main difference between the Kaido Incident and the Shanks Incident is that they didn't plan to fight Kaido, Kid and the other alliance members were taken by surprise and betrayed, so it makes sense that he didn't learn his lesson . As for Shanks, he went to him willingly, knowing the risks and confident he had a chance after helping to defeat Big Mom, only to be completely crushed, which would be a good starting point for gaining Character Development.
@@rupertgordonii6623 Dude Kid was introduced 600 chapters ago and has been a major player in Wano, I think he should have already gotten his character development.
@@Poio_Freido he's a conqueror haki user. Those guys are a bunch of the most single minded, prideful, hard heads. It takes a lot for them to learn their lesson. It takes Luffy to witness Ace death to remind him that he's not ready to go to new world. It takes his captain training for zorro to beg Mihawk to train him.(it also take Mihawk beating him to make him realize just how far he is from his goal back in Baratie) It takes someone as pure as Luffy to change Hancock(even then she only change her behavior in front of Luffy while still act arrogant in front of anyone else). Kidd losses an arm yes, but it's nothing significant at least personally to him. If anything, Killer got forced to eat smile should be the thing that reminds him that he's still weak, but defeating Big Mom seems to really boost their confidence. Too much in fact.
This doesn’t work exactly because Kidd didn’t just fight Kaido for the sake of it. It wasn’t out of his stubbornness and being naive enough to think he could take Kaido on. He got ambushed because of Apoo, it’s different fighting because you’d rather not submit, than fighting out of recklessness - that was the whole point of the Hawkins storyline. Fighting Shanks WAS naive and reckless, but clearly the two instances are VERY different, and it’s a lot more understandable being cocky when you’ve taken down BM.
"Ambush"? We've seen Kaido fight, he doesn't go for trickery. If Kid was strong enough, that was actual an ideal spot to take down Kaido without his crew around. Kid just wasn't strong enough. Just like Act 1 Luffy wasn't strong enough. But Luffy got crushed, got up, and got to training. Kid just tried the same shit again and got a half W by relying on Law's Devil Fruit. And somehow even after geting an upclose and extended look at what Kaido and Big Mom could do, he still thought he had what it takes to take down Shanks alone. So yes, if he gets up saying he's the best again, it will be repeat. And a baffling one a that. Kid took down Big Mom? So did Law, and when Black Beard rolled up, Law's first instinct was to get the hell out of dodge. We saw the fight, it was not off-screen, we all know the two of them barely managed against BM and won due to luck. Law is acting accordingly, but Kid didn't get the memo.
@@Yodah97 you missed my whole point. Yes Kidd was naive to think he could take down shanks because he didn’t even take big mom down himself. I said it was a stupid move. But him taking down Kaido was NOT a stupid move, Kaido came to HIM as opposed to Kid going to attack Kaido. So it’s not like Kidd was rash, he just chose to not submit to Kaido as opposed to thinking he could defeat Kaido.
@@Yodah97 also there’s absolutely nothing wrong with not being strong enough to take Kaido down 😭 even tho Luffy >>> Kid in strength, Kaido took damage from the scabbards, the supernovas and Yamato in the same way BM took damage from Law.
Interesting how Kidd is an example of a character who didn’t take Blackbeards advice at Mock Town. Some fights aren’t worth fighting on the climb to the top yet over and over again Kidd would get into fights with people way about his level.
I feel like Kidd is what would've happened to Luffy if he didn't have Nami and Usopp to rein him in. He would get to the New World, try to bum rush his way through the Yonko, and get destroyed
@@samt3412 They've literally never once managed to reign him in... In fact, Luffy has pretty much bum-rushed his way to Yonko once he made it to the new world... It had barely been a few months after time skip when he challenged Kaido despite of the delay because of their impromptu visit to Whole Cake Island... Hell, he even rushed Kaido the first time he saw him and got one-shotted and captured... He would be dead if Kaido was anyone else... The only reason Luffy hasn't suffered the same fate as Kidd is that he is the main character and has plot Armor... He can make retarded decisions all he wants but it's never gonna cost him quite as much as the others... Kidd doesn't have the same luxury...
Yup, Kidd was never humbled and believed he was the best like a little arrogant kid. Blackbeard Teach was extremely intelligent knowing to avoid certain people.
What i like about Kid is that he's Luffy but actually having to face real consequences. I love Luffy but having a mirror character who struggle more to reach the same goal is even more inspiring. Also punk asthetic, rad as hell.

@@nettoyagedelamaison9557 yeah Luffy lost his brother, alot of his life span, a massive scar on his chest. You can make an argument that Luffy suffered more than Kid and i can totally see it. But Luffy did get alot of help (not to take away from his achievements and hard work), Kid on the other hand from what we've seen only got himself and Killer that he can trust (also Law briefly). Kid fails miserably every single time but somehow still get to the final war. He's a mirror to Luffy if Luffy had no one to stop him from making stupid choices and getting his ass handed to him from biting off more than he can chew.
I personally see Kidd as a cautionary tale which embodies the lessons presented in the very first chapter of the entire story: The sea is full of dangers, and pride is neither a good reason to hurt someone (like Higuma) nor something worth getting hurt for (Like 7-year-old Luffy). The only thing truly worth fighting and dying for is your friends (Like Shanks). Kidd doesn’t pick his battles, and he doesn’t hesitate to kill or throw himself in harm’s way because his pride always gets the better of him. He’s in many ways the opposite of what Shanks represents (He even lost the same arm for nearly the opposite reason), making his recent defeat at the hands of Shanks very thematically appropriate… I can’t say whether Kidd is ever going to grow as a character, but if he does, Shanks could very well be the one to bring it out of him. I believe Kidd is presented as being similar to Luffy in many ways precisely to highlight this area where they differ, and not because he’s supposed to be some major rival to Luffy. After all, by your own analysis, nothing else in the story backs that notion up.
your one of the only people ive seen on the internet who seem to understand kidds narrative purpose. So many power scaler idiots shit on him because they had this headcannon that he was supposed to be luffys vegeta/sasuke when he was obviously nothing of the sort. Or because they whine about feats. Its as delusional as saying zoro will kill kaido or the raid will fail. Kidd and law arnt actual rivals they are more like tsundare allies. Kidds purpose in the story is to prove that strong will and ambition isnt enough to succeed you have to know what to fight for. He is the exact type of pirate shanks taught luffy not to be. There is a reason oda had kidd lose an arm to the red hair pirates and had shanks give an arm for luffy.
@@rephaelandom1718 Shank's first lesson to luffy was "Now that you've drawn your pistol, are you willing to put your life on the line? I'm saying those aren't for threatening people.", Kidd literally pulled the biggest gun One Piece ever had until now before shanks beat him. His second lesson was "Don't start fights just because some people made fun of you but don't hesitate to destroy them if they hurt your friends" Kid was trying to hurt shanks's all weak friends before he beat him until then he was calmly waiting for their duels. so i agree with the givcon14, Oda showing us what if luffy had too much pride and pick fights for no reason with using Kidd in the manga.i think he is saying to us if Luffy didn't listen to shanks and became like Kidd he could progress to a 3 billion bounty guy but not much more from there. its just my opinion tho we still don't know if kidd died or not.
That's the supposed idea. You can extrapolate and expand on that idea by projecting your own meaning. But the reality is that it was not delivered well in the story. Idea is the first thing, execution of that idea is another thing. This is how narrative works. And the Oda wrote it very badly.
Kaiba io a good rival. Dont compare them. Like from the start yugis gramps , mall cardshop, kaiba, th tony stark of he duelling world and ends up changing to where wars instead, are decided with cardgames, with his company. Then kaibas developement, he learns to accept help, He grows and is only in some ways petty. But he chills out about yugi having beaten him, mostly. @@snicksandstoneseh not really. i never viewed kidd as serious rival, in fact i’d argue the story has purposely worked against that idea as many times as possible since kidds introduction. luffy is barely aware of kidd, he’d never consider him a rival himself. it’s always been one sided with Kidd thinking he’s got what it takes to be that guy but continually being proven wrong and not learning from it.
If oda can redeem bellamy, he can redeem kid. However it gonna take A LOT more work because kid had so much riding for him compared to bellamy who we would've never thought of to come back. I think the main difference between kid and luffy is that unlike kid luffy actually befriends nearly everyone he meets giving him greater success in the long wrong. Kid does not do this making it so he doesn't have the safety net that luffy does whenever he fails so it'd hit that much harder for kid.

I like the comparison to Moria. A potential big shot at the time who never had what it took to really hang with his contemporaries once they all hit their stride.
Unlike Kit, Moria did end up becoming a shichibukai (a weak one but still). And though he still lost to Kaido, I feel prome Moeia would have beat Kit. Problem is kit was never really shown to accomplish much.
@@jld7088 Kid could've become a shichibukai if the roles were still available by the time of his stomping. Unfortunately the Seraphim have already replaced the shichibukai so he'll never have the chance. Very easily shichibukai strength level though.
I feel like a big problem with Kidd’s story is that Oda DID intend for him to play a bigger part in the story. But as he said the fans ended up loving Law more than him so he focused on Law. Kinda sad. I really like his design and him being basically the opposite of Law, who is calm and collected, while he is hard headed and aggressive.
People are ready and willing to jump on the Kidd train, but Oda never even tried to make one. There was none so he was not as popular as Law. A self fulfilling prophecy
@@justaway6901 Let’s be real Law has a better backstory , is cooler , and his fashion game is out of this world. Even in MF he saved Luffy and is kinda an honorary straw hat now. The community is going crazy about Kid losing like this but to me it made perfect sense. I never got the impression Kid was a serious rival to Luffy, in my mind his role was to fall short of Luffy somewhere before Laughtale arc. There was never any space in the story for him to do anything else
Kidfags are seething. It was made clear since the fist time he appeared his bounty is so high because he kills civilians. It took two guys from the worst generation to take down 1 (one) yonko, while Luffy won 1v1 with "the strongest". Anyone who thought Kid had ANY chance at doing any damage to Shanks are braindead.
@parth gupta I get what you're saying, but we're talking about Oda here. He is always devoting too much screen time to "minor" characters, especially in Wano. It can be frustrating, but it also enriches the story.
@@parthgupta8881 he didn't take 50 chapters lmao, there are just a handful of chapters that exclusively focus on kidd, at best. In every other instance Kidd is just a secondary narrative tool, almost not even a character You act like we had a long ass flashback
To me, Kid is a "red herring" rival. He was built up as a rival to Luffy, a version of Luffy that didn't take a 2-year break to train for the New World. In the end, Kid was used to show the audience a glimpse of how strong Shanks really is. Because Kid isn't Luffy's rival, the other Yonko are; Shanks & Blacksbeard.
I agree BUT i dont see Shanks as Luffy's rival at all, but its Blackbeard since they hate things that the other rival likes, like Luffy hates cherry pies while Teach hates beer or what ever Luffy like to drink thou which was shown during Teach's debut
@@courage1363 yeah both of them just like to side of coin, their come from D clan, Luffy hate what he likes, Teach hate what Luffy likes, had same dream and ideology(but still the opposite version of it), and opposite characters build.
Dude we already know how strong Shanks is, the man held his own against Whitebeard from a single blow using only ONE HAND!!!! We didn’t need to see Shanks give an ass wooping to some amateur wannabe ‘King of the Pirates’!
Actually the strawhats got annihilated twice too. Just before Water Seven, Aokiji shows that they can't do nothing against him and they only live because of their mercy. It didn't stop Luffy going after Robin after that and also after being crushed by Lucci. Being crushed at Sabaody didn't stop Luffy trying to save Ace in Impel Down and Marineford, where he was outmatched multiple times. And he would just keep going if wasn't for Rayleigh. Kid just didn't have a mentor, but being crushed multiple times and not changing much is very much Luffy like. Not having many wins to show is where the similarity ends
I think it's more than just not having mentor. Kid also have this unwillingness to work with others beside his crew and accepting that he was weak. He shown to not want to make alliance. Killer was the one that force him to allied himself with other supernova (tbf kidd was right on this one). He also refuse Luffy's offer of alliance in Udon prison and chose to work by himself even though if he agreed he could learn advance armament together with Luffy. Unlike Kidd Luffy willingly received help even from former enemies like Buggy and Mr.3. Crocodile is the only one he's unwilling to be allied with because how terrible he was in Alabasta. If Luffy is as Unwilling to receive help as Kidd he won't survive even impel down. And there's a chance he won't accept Rayleigh offer too.
Main issue is we never saw him win before. Lets use naruto for example. Before sasuke lost to bee, we saw him win against dedira, ororachmaru and itachi. We never saw kid win except against big mom but that was a team up.
Saw him win against naruto himself too and he threw hands at the chunin exam, i dont remember naruto that well its been years since i watched but didnt he technically beat bee? Like bee used a substitution jutsu to run away even tho he was winning?

@@vegeta9501 It wasn’t really too clear cut, but it made Killer Bee and Sasuke look good. Killer Bee likely could have beat them all if he took it more seriously, but also, he says Sasuke is one of the strongest people he has fought.
I thought that Kid and LAw were somewhat decomposites of Luffy. One is a Conquerer with a 1st Mate specialising in Blades that is a Supernova, Another is a Will of D holder with a busted DF, also a backstory with a Potentially Former Celestial Dragon being a role model in their lives.
@@justaway6901 The only thing misleading you is recency bias chill and take a step back. Also, all rivalries have to end someday and Kidd is finally another kind of important character who died in the story, this much discussion about it is great because it shows they cared and left an impact.
After Dressrosa I expected we’d get a full development for Kidd as good if not better than Law. So I waited and waited. Then we got to Wano and I was legitimately happy to see him. “Finally we’ll learn more about him” But… no. Nothing new. It’s true Wano was overcrowded but there was plenty of opportunities to give Kidd some character development. Killer is the living proof of that. Right now I’m more invested in Killer than Kid. Kid can die or come back stronger than ever ; I-just-don’t-care-anymore.
It's just people over obsessing on one writing "mistake" because they just want to go against the people hyping up "Goda". They are acting like getting rid of Kid in the story overshadows everything great that ever happened in One Piece because reading week to week is apparently very good at creating these types of conversations lol.
@@colibri224, I always try to understand these random ilegible comments. He's basically saying you're not a real fan for not having faith in Oda's decision.
I think one of Kidd's largest issues in the story is that he's always featured along side Law. Law's ability stands out more and is way more interesting and his more laid back nature has him mesh better with Luffy. If Kidd had been featured by himself earlier then he probably would have stood out more and been a more interesting character.
Law's ability standing out more probably has to do with the fact that he uses his brain to come up with strategies with how he implements his fruit during battles. Luffy is a meathead but he's creative and made all the gears with his imagination. Kidd's electromagnetism is probably one of the coolest powers in this entire series yet he just unga bungas through everything expecting his fruit to carry him.
Maybe I'm alone in this. But while there were a few things that hinted at a rivalry, I always more viewed Kidd as a discount Luffy that was going about everything wrong and would never go as far.
Kidd is a rougher, dumber, more moronic version of Luffy, who can't even train or develop his devil fruit further: he can't do more than basic stuff, like attracting and repelling metal objects. His giant arms and armors, made up of mashed-up junk all stuck together, are literally the best he's got.😅 🤣 Those are toys to any top fighter.* Clearly, Oda giving Kidd conqueror's haki was a last-ditch attempt to make us take him seriously as a "rival"🙄 *The Gorosei would've pissed themselves laughing if they'd seen Kidd coming at them in a giant junk armor. If Oda actually brings Kidd back for Elbaph, let's hope Loki will do the honours and kill him and his crew for good.
One of the greatest comebacks I’ve seen from a rival was Kai from beyblade coming back from a devastating loss against the final boss and managing to defeat him before Tyson even did. For me, Kid would need something like that to truly redeem him in my eyes.
Ah yes then Brooklyn came back twice as strong summoned a black hole that engulfed the entire earth and we clearly saw that Kai had it easy compared to Tyson
This is a perfect breakdown of exactly why Kid feels so strange in the story. No shade to Kid fans for their preferences, but I always feel confused when I see people hyping him up - because it's just not there in the story. He's great as a character concept and that SHOULD justify fans. But what great Kid moments are there to explain why anyone would have him as a favorite?
Everything about him in Sabaody was pretty cool. Then as timeskip starts and time goes on, we see that Kid is the only character that gets into way over his head like Luffy, but he actually gets punished for it, by getting kicked out of Big Mom's territory, losing an entire limb to Red Hairs and then that amazing scene with him being bodybaged after encountering Kaido. But even then, when broken, his closest friend and crewmate mentally deranged, and his entire crew scattered, he still persisted to his goal. He is the only character like Luffy in the entire series, that is a young and upcoming rookie but also extremely dedicated to the same goal, which he dives in for, not caring about the consequences.
@@theseeker7692 this is exactly why kid is my favorite character no matter the Ls. Atp 99% of op characters would’ve quit in kids shoes. But he continues to be persistent in chasing his goals. Sure he hasn’t done much combat wise but fighting ability isn’t the only reason to like a character. His unique perspective on what is right and wrong and why he does what he does is super intriguing.
The concept of Kidd was amazing but oda doesn't want to let anyone take luffy's shine. Kidd was done criminally wrong and it's like oda dies it intentionally. I mean even his fighting style is just throwing metal around and being physically strong. The guy has on actual fighting ability almost like oda didn't even think to give him anything but his df. Kidd should have been great a ruthless version of Luffy who doesn't just laugh off everything. He should have been shoulder to shoulder with Luffy until the fight for pk where Luffy surpassed him but it's just comical to try and compare the 2.
@AJ-lq3jz I agree I think kidd should have been a legit rival but on friendly terms while bb was a rival on enemy terms. Kidd had the make up to be a vegeta of op.
@@TheBeanMan77 But he might as well be Him and zoro are literally always together so one of them being on the worst generation but not the other was always kind of bullshit
I think the story oda had in planned since the beginning started with him being defeated by shanks. His involvement in wano is like a side quest/filler. Ever since the start, his planned to fight with shanks and now he lost against him. Even if you remove all his storyline in wano, nothing important happens there for his character. only his reputation has increased. His real character story will play out now, whatever oda intend to do.
The only part of Kidd that really shows him as an equal to Luffy was his original bounty but then you learn that he’d attack civilians and then it looses the impact of him being more wanted by the marine’s than the guy that’s never hurt someone innocent.
People seems to miss this part a lot. He's shown to be pretty evil when we saw him torturing other pirates in the new world just because "You guys are just too weak for this sea". So there's no reason to not think on what evil he did to get bigger bounty than Luffy. (There's also the fact that the government tried to cover Moria's defeat so Luffy's bounty should be much higher than 300k back then) there's no way that they strength was equal even at the time.
Kidd is a fraud, at the time he had 400millions, Luffy defeated Cracker, Katakuri, then still got one shot by Kaido. At that time KIdd got his a** handled and humbled by Big mom's pirates, the only one who held his own was Urouge. Kidd didnt get that much stronger, he sure awekened his fruit, but that's it, he relies to much on it. And no Luffy, wasn't weaker and slower than Katakuri, that's anime filler, what is not filler however, is Katakuri literally stating thay Luffy is his equal. Maybe it has occured to you that she doesn't dodge because their attacks are too fast for her instead of coping about plot armor ? Kid's Haki is good enough to tank many of Big Mom's strongest attacks ( friendly reminder that Katakuri was hurt by a kick from haki-less base Luffy ) he could also affect Big Mom with his DF. Strength-wise, he's also heads and shoulders above Katakuri as he could inflict enormous damage to Big Mom and even hurt Kaido with his base attacks. Law and Kid defeated Big Mom. Big Mom was already almost dead before falling as stated in the manga. Unless you think that random bombs do more damage than Law and Kid's attacks ( ONE Shock Wille from Law made a hole that dwarfed mountains ) We don't know about Kid's bounty before his 3 billion mark. But I doubt that someone that defeated a Big Mom commander and got his hands on poneglyphs would have 300mil. And no, killing people isn't enough to get a higher bounty than the guy who defeated 2 Warlords and the Island of Justice. Arlong enslaved multiple islands and he only had 20 millions. Stay mad, Kid deserves his bounties. It's not plot armor, it's you coping about it.
One thing said about luffy is that he draws people to himself. The thing about magnetism is it can draw people too, but only if it’s pointed the right way. Kid just needs to turn some things about himself around and he could be every bit as ‘magnetic’ as luffy.
I think the problem is so many people wanted Kidd to be the Vegeta to Luffy's Goku. I never looked at him like that so I don't think he's the "worst rival ever" or whatever. He's a side character who wants the same goal as Luffy and that's it. As explained in the video, we don't even see him enough to understand him, root for him or know how strong he really is. He's not that major of a character for me to care about him getting destroyed by Shanks.
The craziest thing to me about that fight was how Kidd got done in like Luffy in Wano Act 1. Even after taking down BM, Shanks can just do him like THAT.

It doesn’t even make sense narratively because Big Mom was built up throughout the story as Luffy’s opponent. What you mean is thematically which easily could’ve been accomplished by Luffy because he is a member of the worst generation too and has been making bigger waves

I think the most satisfying turn out for this situation would be if Killer was the only survivor somehow, and Killer was the one to build the crew out of the remaining supernovas. Could be why we've gotten better character writing out of him.
I honestly don't think we'll see a Kid comeback. Him losing his poneglyphs is the issue here. The reason why he got passed around was for those glyph rubbings and he finally succeeded. Only for Heat to give them away. They effectively represent his progress towards his dream but that's been given away (We don't even know if Shanks was going to ask for them). To me it shows that his crew (aside from Killer, my beloved) weren't serious about trying to make Kid PK. To compare, the SHs would rather die than talk shit Luffy's dreams, let alone handing over the keys to said dream.
@A J But there was no reason for Kidd to lose his poneglyph rubbings aside from him being dumb enough to attack Shanks. Law was trying to take revenge (and to his credit, his Gamma Knife attack and df abilities did a LOT of work). Doflamingo was simply too tough and cunning, so that's why Law took an L (despite helping Luffy get a W by forcing Doflamingo to do surgery on himself mid-fight). The Strawhats were getting hunted down on the Grand Line, so that's why they took an L. Meanwhile, Ben Beckman was the one who amputated Kidd. So how was it ever going to be possible for Kidd to do anything to Shanks himself 1v1, when it took him _and_ Law both using their Awakening to incapacitate Big Mom? Kidd could've been ahead if he'd tried to avoid Shanks, knowing the difference in their combat abilities. If Heat didn't give up the rubbings, Kidd (and probably Killer) would be dead right now. Unlike many of Luffy's Ls, this one was completely avoidable for Kidd.
@AJ-lq3jz it's not about loyalty. His crew don't actually believe in him. They're there to "play pirates" as Zoro said. Kid isn't trying to "get by" he's actually trying to *win*. But his crew are here to hangout, not to make him PK. They're loyal in the sense that they want to travel with him. The difference between Luffy's and Kid's defeats is that Luffy still had his dream. Kid's was straight up given away.
you completely miss that the sHs are the protagonist´s crew, also Kid´s crew is definitely loyal and not weak at all, the thing you also miss is the blatant plot armor shown for the strawhats nothing goes wrong for them, they always save the day and no one dies while they are around, its tiring Oda making Disney

I can’t help but love kidd. I also think his devil fruit/its awakening will be very relevant in the plot going forward/at the end: I think he may have something to do with redefining/discovering the log pose lines, even finding Elbaf as all of that works off magnetism. If Aokiji/sakazuki can change the climate of an island I think there’s a solid chance that some magnet magnet fruit user in the past had something to do with the current magnetic/navigating mess of the grand line in the current day.
That's an interesting premise! Honestly, I love Kid too, also can't help it. I know it's asking too much of him, but he could even become the one who facilitates or has a part to play in the reaugmenting of the whole map, inadvertently causing all the seas to join and become the All Blue. There are so many opportunities to work with polarity.
I always thought it was a missed opportunity that Kid didn’t have advanced armament before Luffy, the type that the scabbards had just to showcase how Kid has been fighting for two years straight.
I think what Kidd's role in the story was that he was meant to show that even if you do indeed progress alot as a pirate and even enter the new world, that there is still a chance that you might get completely annihilated. Kidd got too ahead of himself for his own true good and he ended up paying the price, his defeat at elbaf showed that you can't start to get cocky after some decent progress and that there will still be a greater threat then the threat you overcame the last time.
Interviews with Oda really are a gift or curse that can bring clarity or confusion! I can’t make my mind up if Oda is planning for Kid to be a important character and he’s not dead or if he just mad Law the important character after he saw how popular he was 🤦♂️
Personally, I like Kid's arc in the new world as a parallel to Luffy always getting back up, "reassembling himself" like Morj said. In all fights Luffy should have lost, but he always bounced back after getting cornered. The strawhat's journey has somewhat become predictable to a point that a Luffy defeat really seems like a waste of time, until he comes back up again. Kid, on the other hand, always reassembles after complete destruction. He gets bodied by his arrogance, but his will keeps going, until he reaches a new height. His confidence is overwhelming and always leads to his defeat, but without Luffy's power and crew, he can't keep up and just gets demolished. On Wano, I think that Kid had a journey to trust other people (since he got betrayed), just the right kind of people (luffy and law), to get what he needed. In elbaf, his crew just turned the poneglyphs and got annihilated anyway. I believe what will happen is that he will come back up and learn to pull the right kind of people closer, as is killer, as a parallel to his power of magnetism. I seriously believe a moment with Kid being impressive, like taking a pacifista by himself, would have done wonders to hype him up and kept him hyped. But honestly, Oda probably had too many things on his plate at sabaody and Wano and couldn't flesh him more. Hopefully he will get a better treatment, that includes his arc in Wano, in a substantial way.
Luffy and Kid are both stubborn but the difference is that Kidd is arrogant that don’t learn from his mistakes and don’t take advice even from his closest friend. Luffy takes advice from everyone from Shanks to Vivi to Iceberg from CP9 from Jinbe from Blackbeard from many people he mets along the way Luffy is stubborn to accomplish his goal as being captain and becoming pirate king he is not arrogant. We saw that in Arlong Park that Luffy was aware of his short comings and had his crew help him with it and took many advice along his journey Luffy has empathy Kidd has arrogance Luffy does everything in his power to be the best captain he can be and is open to criticism and advice in hard times for example when he lost Ace and needed his crew the most he took Rayleigh advice and was away from his own crew for 2 years even tho he needed them the most.
I’ve never seen Kidd as Luffy’s rival especially for the One Piece. The closest thing Luffy has to a rival is probably Blackbeard, which is a much more antagonistic relationship. If Shanks is truly going after the One Piece, I believe Kidd’s entire purpose was to show that Shanks will be Luffy’s rival and has been since the very beginning. It only takes a few seconds of critical thinking to realize there’s no way Kidd was actually being built up as Luffy’s rival. It was pretty obviously all in Kidd’s head and Kidd was the only one who saw it that way. His delusional sense of self led to his downfall, it’s been pretty in our faces the entire time. Just look at the facts: Luffy defeated Kaido with an overwhelming show of strength whereas Law and Kidd got really lucky and used their environment to their benefit. They didn’t even knock her out like Luffy did to Kaido directly, they just removed her from the situation. I believe Kidd has actually had multiple Sabaody level events for himself and his crew including most of his run ins with emperors prior to 1079. Like when he got his arm removed by assumedly Benn Beckman, or the time his crew was imprisoned and tortured by Kaido for months, etc. The point being that Kidd has actually had plenty of opportunities to grow as a person and chose not to out of a false sense of superiority.
I agree with everything until Kidd only sees Luffy as a rival because he's "delusional" and "has plenty of opportunities but fails out of a false sense of superiority." Because what are these opportunities you're referring to? Kidd didn't have the 2nd hand of the Pirate King as a trainer to learn Conquerors Haki from, which is one of the primary power systems of the story itself. And no, Udon Prison wasn't a failed opportunity because of a sense of superiority. After being betrayed by Hawkins and Apoo, he wanted to trust anyone. After that, he said it himself he just needed Killer because he knew his best friend wouldn't backstab him.
@@tsfocus8317 I’m not sure what you’re getting at here. Rayleigh obviously taught Luffy very little about conquerors haki outside of turning it on and off at will which Kidd can do as well. Luffy realized he needed to grow and be stronger for the sake of his crew and his own dreams and that’s why 3D2Y happened. Kidd went into the new world, picked a fight with yonko almost immediately, got his ass handed to him on 3 (losing arm to beckmann, imprisoned by kaido, destroyed by shanks) occasions and got lucky a handful of times (specifically when dealing with big mom and her crew both before and during wano). The difference here being that Luffy realized everyone needed to become stronger before going forward and was willing to rely on others like Rayleigh to help him reach that point. Kidd never even would’ve accepted help from someone from the older generation nor would he ever learn from his multiple mistakes that his crew isn’t prepared and needs to grow before seriously competing with yonko. Kidd’s hubris is his fatal flaw. He is incapable of truly measuring the gap between himself and others even when presented with the fact as point blank as possible which makes him delusionaly overconfident. He’s had a handful of lucky moments that don’t even outweigh all the bad moments he’s had in the new world yet he remains cocky. That undying cockiness may be the source of his neverending willpower but it’s also what led to his downfall and it’s hard to argue otherwise.
@@devroloI'm arguing that you're saying Kidd had opportunities to grow, but he didn't, especially at the rate of Luffy and the delusion point, because the story blatantly counters this fallacious point. Luffy, up until Sabaody was running headfirst into the Grandline without a care in the world. You said it yourself. It was until Luffy realized everyone needed to get stronger after getting dog walked by Kizaru and couldn't do anything when Kuma popped up and slapped his crew out of existence in front of him. Where was this exact scenario for Kidd in Sabaody? After he and Law finished with the Pacifistas, he just up and left. Only when he went against Shanks Crew for the first time did he realize the power gap between him and a yonko. This is why when he chose to go against Kaido, he formed an alliance with Apoo and Hawkins to increase his chances of taking him down. But as soon as Kaido landed in front of them, they switched up. This is why he has trust issues with pairing up with Luffy in Wano, which has valid reasoning behind it. Kidd's willing to pair up with Hawkins and Apoo counter your point of "nor would he ever learn from his multiple mistakes that his crew isn't prepared and needs to grow before seriously competing with yonko" because he did, which is why he created the alliance in the first place. Also, it is odd why you said he wouldn't accept help from the older generation because there are no statements to back that up. "He is incapable of truly measuring the gap between himself and others even when presented with the fact as point blank as possible which makes him delusionaly overconfident. He's had a handful of lucky moments that don't even outweigh all the bad moments he's had in the new world yet he remains cocky." It sounds like a main character I know well, lol. Sure maybe not Conqr Haki, but he did help with Luffy overall development in haki in general. Without him, Luffy wouldn't have gotten as far as he did.
@@tsfocus8317 He did have opportunities to grow. He should have stopped and trained his entire crew to be Yonko level before confidently going up against Yonko. Kidd’s first Sabaody moment should’ve been losing his arm. That’s not some small thing, that’s extremely traumatic and permanent scarring like that doesn’t happen lightly in One Piece. The second moment should’ve been when he was defeated by Kaido, even if his alliance hadn’t turned against him he was never in a position to defeat Kaido even with their help. Because he didn’t train for it and doesn’t understand the difference between him and Luffy. He thinks he’s on Luffy’s level, evident by him thinking having a 3 billion bounty makes him just as powerful even though their feats aren’t comparable. True Luffy had more direct training on armament and observation as far as we know (we have no clue who taught Kidd haki and to what extent so you can’t really make any claims on this) but that was only after his first crushing defeat made him realize he needed to stop for a hot minute and get a lot better before moving forward. Kidd should’ve done the same when losing his arm, when barely beating the weakest sweet commander, when getting thrashed by kaido and imprisoned and then still deciding to go directly after a yonko again knowing he wasn’t even able to beat Big Mom 1v1? How could you argue he’s anything but delusional especially to think he could do anything against Shanks.
@@devrolo You keep mentioning his "confidence" as a terrible character trait. Most One Piece characters are like that; their pirates, after all, that's how they act. And it's not light as soon as he lost to Ben, he went after Kaido. A significant amount of time could have passed. We don't know since it happened between the two-year time skip. You're making blanket statements, and losing an arm in One Piece shouldn't be taken lightly, but it's not necessarily the only way to learn a lesson or grow as a character. Kidd has shown moments of reflection and growth throughout the series, such as acknowledging Luffy's strength. We don't know who taught Kidd haki, but it's clearly not better or equal to Luffys, which gives Luffy, someone with a similar personality to Kidd, opportunities to act recklessly. Kidd does underestimate the strength of Yonkos and overestimates his own, but this is a common flaw among many characters in One Piece (every villain in one piece hell, even people in shank's crew, underestimated kidd, which shanks told them not to) so why solely target him he's not weak at all being able to tank most of the damage from big mom (while being damaged by killer and Hawkins) Big Mom herself was surprised to how can he even stand and making Big mom cough up blood while being amped by her lifespan. "He thinks he's on Luffy's level, evident by him thinking having a 3 billion bounty makes him just as powerful even though their feats aren't comparable" Where did you get this information from? And he never fought a sweet commander, either. Also, why didn't Luffy train up his crew after getting pushed off so easily in gear 4 when he attacked Big Mom in whole cake but still chose to fight Kaido and got one shot? Kidd's actions may seem delusional or reckless, but they are also consistent with his character. Kidd is a hotheaded, aggressive pirate determined to become the Pirate King. His actions may not always be bright, LIKE LUFFY, but they are driven by his ambition and desire for power. It's also worth noting that many successful pirates in the One Piece world have achieved their goals through bold and risky actions, so Kidd's approach isn't invalid.
I think the big difference between his defeat against Kaido is that he could blame Apoo and Hawkins for the betrayal this is actually the first time he can only blame himself for everything
With how smart morj seems to be , its funny he ignored something so obvious. Those are two completely different scenarios , yet he's treating them the same. Kaido came out of nowhere , while with Shanks he actively decided to attack him when there was no danger otherwise. Honestly some of the other points to me are just iffy and just him trying to complain about Wano again , like genuinely this kid hate started with people thinking he was somehow the only worst generation guy doing nothing on rooftop when Oda made sure to show everyone that wasn't the case.
Well, still, in his fight against kaido, it was 1 vs kid, killer and all his crew put together at once, not a fight against a hole armada, I guess it did become a 1 vs all again, which only makes it even more similar.
@@LuccaPCesar Lol it wasn't. Appoo and his crew were already underlings of Kaido, and Hawkins switched sides when he saw his chances. The odds got stacked against Kid super quick. The Strawhats would have been done for as well.
@@LuccaPCesar Indeed. The main point that people forget is that Kaido didn't just accidentally land there. It was all a setup. It was actually Kid and Killer vs everyone else
@@julianmateus7911 Oda didn’t really help out by having Big Mom say Kid’s best attack tickled while at the same time yelling out in fear at the sight of Law preparing to hit her. Granted, in context, Kid has to deal with her damn near Kaido level external durability while Law doesn’t, and you could say she was bluffing for Kid, but the fact that her and Kaido specifically call out Law when he sauces on them with his DF and that he had Big Mom shook makes Kid’s legit accomplishments look alot less legit
@@jocoolshow Oda went out of his way to emphasize that only Law was doing lasting damage.... I think that it was a showcase of what will happen on the future. Law able to cautiously handle himself against yonkos (not beating them by himself) and Kid being rekt due to lack of haki mastery. Hell even Law has better haki feats now (overwriting the disease disease fruit with haki) than Kid (he has conquerors, yet he hasn't showed any haki proficiency)
Kid was Shanks’ opposite; he prioritized strength, he murdered the innocent, he repeatedly jumped the gun and fought opponents well-above his level, and he got his ass kicked - he’s everything we learned couldn’t make it in the Grand Line during the East Blue arc distilled into a “how not to” guide on being Pirate King.
This made me realize how much development we have on killer. Maybe we are watching his backstory play out, leading to kids death and him becoming the captain and straw hat grand fleet ally? Or at least ally
this was the first time being shown kid's defeat. and other defeats were seen as setbacks whereas this (also being the actual first time shanks has legitimately displayed his true strength) was really emphasized as an utter and terrifying annihilation. you're right tho, had kid had more focus, or maybe already had a headstart on poneglyphs and a larger crew with more resources. something like gary oak to ash. then seeing this defeat would have meant more for seeing kid wiped out.
I don't know what people were expecting but Kidd and the other Supernovas (aside Luffy and Zorro) were not supposed to become the real deal in the New World. Their purpose was/is to either become temporary ally with the SH like Law (from Punk Hazard to Wano), Capone Bege (on WCI), Kidd (on Wano), now seemingly Bonney on Egghead Island or to become foes like Apoo and Hawkins on Wano. Kidd might well not have any relevancy for the future of the story as he fulfilled his purpose already. I do not care if he becomes food for the fishes and see monsters or if he survives but I do feel for Killer and the crew.
It's known that the supernovas were a very late addition to the sabody arc. We've already seen a few of them pretty much become irrelevant already. I feel like Oda came up with the Kidd concept but never felt motivated to fully flesh him out or fit it into the overall narrative properly. Instead he just used him conveniently to add more bulk to Wano and hype up both Kaido and Shanks. I get the feeling he just didn't enjoy writing Kidd as a character as much as Law.
@@john-olivierlukama1548 Kid was never written as a rival, a character with that role needs to be developed and showcase his skills, even in saboady he couldn’t fight a pacifista without Law’s crew he never won a battle by himself, the most important element of a rivalry is to bring the best of each other, and luffy has nothing to learn from kid. Just because there is a competitive dynamic doesnt mean there is a rivalry in place. It was established since the character’s introduction, that while luffy goes to an island and ends up freeing everyone and making new allies and friends, Kid attacks civilians and kills everyone that laughs at his dream because he is that insecure. Oda himself stated that the supernovas weren’t even planned, and they appeared close to the mid point of the story, their function in the story is just to measure future threats A pacifista? @@kenyattafrazierkid was Morj's fav supernova he always had him above law in term of character, hype and powerscaling, but after wano he changed his mind and I don't blame him at all lol
Kid is the definition of getting it out the mud. Kid didn't have any formal training, special 5 billion beri devil fruits, or a special family. And yet, he stole Big Mom's Poneglyph, stood alongside the other supernova and took down two Yonko, no advanced haki either. When Kid comes back, he's going to be damn near unstoppable, with advanced haki, new methods of using his df, plus a new ship made using giant metal with his df.
Like Kidd’s magnets, I’m sure Kidd will piece himself back together. There isn’t any character more plucky and confident than Luffy besides Kidd, otherwise if Kidd doesn’t do something cool then that will be a rare L by Oda
The only reason why I see this happening (and this is a long shot) is so it'll be revealed that Killer actually is part of the 3 eyed tribe and Shanks crew needs someone to read the poneglyphs. Similar to how everyone thinks BB is going to capture Law and not kill him, I think it'll be the same for Kidd and Killer. I don't see the whole crew getting back together as much as I see him being a prisoner of the Red Hair Pirates and having to be humiliated when they eventually see Luffy again.
It would have been so cool if Kid realised the Pacifista was metal on Sabaody, allowing him to immobilise and actually defeat it Solo, maybe with a super powerful "spear" attack where he launches himself at the immobilised Pacifista (like a particle accelerator). Obviously with broken bones, but it would show how he is as strong if not stronger than Luffy + Zoro + Sanji at the time (who needed to trio tag team to beat 1), assuming his opponent was metal. Unfortunately not enough time to show him being a compelling rival to Luffy.
Well done! Sure it's fun to meme on kidd, he's earned it. However I think it's good to also consider the fact that Oda doesn't always hit his mark. A large part of the failure of kid as a character rests on Oda's shoulders for the points you make in this video. He had all kinds of potential but I honestly think he might be something that may have been planned, but ultimately sidelined or completely tabled. His use in the story is definitely up in the air at this point. I'm very interested to see what happens next. Personally? I think the biggest failure lies on his crew, sans killer. Who really has the only story to give in their group. Heat and wire completely folded. Something that I think kid would definitely not approve of. I think he will disband his pirate group when he becomes aware of this. Maybe go it alone with killer? But ultimately that still brings up the big question, what purpose does he ultimately serve?
Kid was never defeated by Big Mom. Those were rumours. Is says that in the panel you’re showing. Funnily enough in the panel before Kid says he lost to Shanks, he said that he injured one of her commanders, got what he wanted, and left.
Kid to Luffy is more like Kaido and Moria. For legit rivals looked at in hindsight, Roger had WB, Garp (+Sengoku), and Shiki / Rocks. Luffy doesn't need direct parallels, and we still don't know how it'll shake out. From a 'greatest foe' perspective, it's BB similar to Rocks. From a rival and friend, seems like Shanks may end up having a similar relationship with Luffy as WB/Roger, though maybe it'll be Law since they'll be 'enemies' next time they meet. Garp/Sengoku for Roger is Koby and Smoker. I know Kid was supposed to be Luffy's rival specifically, compared to the other Supernova generally, but there are still plenty of others to better fill that role. It just goes to show how far Luffy has come since Sabaody, leaving Kid in the dust. Again, I'm not expecting a 1-1 Roger-Luffy similarity, but you can't tell yet how the relationships will pan out yet.
I think the main counter to this is the sheer amount of controversy and discussion Kidd's loss generated. Kidd getting one-shotted was insane specifically because Kidd is NOT a disappointment. He was able to go toe-to-toe with multiple Yonkos, tank multiple direct hits, and finally topple Big Mom with a little help. His oneshot was so staggering and unexpected because it puts Shanks at a higher tier than many readers thought previously possible All of Morj's points hinge on Kidd being a letdown throughout the story and so he can't properly foil Luffy, but this is just wrong. He was a great initial narrative foil to Luffy by belligerently rushing into the New World and getting crushed. Then he established a rivalry dynamic with Luffy during Udon and we saw his character change and resolve strengthen, ultimately resulting in him helping the crew during the raid and taking down Big Mom (a HUGE and almost unimaginable W)
Idk, I don't think it's so much that people didn't expect Kid to get one shot cause they saw him as exceptionally strong. Most everyone was fully expecting him to lose a straight up fight, aside from a few folk expecting Oda to kill Shanks of all characters off in his first on screen battle lol. It was moreso shocking cause people were expecting Oda to at least throw Kid a bone and have him and the crew have some impressive moments against the Red Hairs before getting taken down like he did with the Heart Pirates against Blackbeard. But no one was expecting Oda to flat out embarrass dude and his crew. And I wouldn't say he toppled big mom with a little help, it was a win by ring out that he was never gonna achieve without Law.
Sadly most people won’t see it this way. Agenda piece has made people interpret situations in whatever way furthers their agenda. In most peoples minds this doesn’t show that shanks is possibly the strongest yonko, it just shows that kid is weak.
I think calling Kid Luffy's rival is a misunderstanding of the character. From the start it was pointed his higher bounty pre-timeskip was due to him ruthlessly killing even innocent people, versus Luffy who's exclusively came from defeating powerful figures. He's set up to basically show the Bounty system isn't a power level, but just notoriety. Kid is arrogant character who mistakes his notoriety for power. Notably he gets jealous at Luffy mostly for simply being present at Marineford and credited for the raid which indicates he's more interested in infamy. it wouldn't really make sense for him to ever equal Luffy in power when he never really learns his lesson. It makes sense he stays arrogant because his world view keeps getting reinforced despite his defeats because he's still fairly powerful, awakens his devil fruit and his bounty keeps going up, so it makes sense he never changes. It's a fitting end that his crew would be get wiped out by Shanks. Because his arrogance lead him to increasingly overestimate his power and think he could go 1-on-1 with the Emperors just because he "beat Big Mom". Plus Blackbeard is Luffy's rival.
One Piece Theory: Eustass Kid is the 7th Vegapunk Clone/Satellite. Links to this theory: • Most of his special moves have the word punk in there names: - Punk Gibson - Punk Rotten - Punk Vise - Dammed Punk - E.C.T • All the Vegapunk Clones/Satellites have a designated number and a Japanese kanji that signifies what personality trait their based off. There is also one personality trait that is missing from Vegapunk"s overall personality. I don't know what it is exactly. But for arguments sake, let's say it is Anger, Ego, or Ambition. Kid exemplifies each of these traits and could be at least one of them. And I know that it could of beeb imprinted on his left bicep. But he lost it in his first fight with Shanks during the two year time skip. Plus, in Sabaody. Kid always war his coat/cape over his left arm so that the audience couldn't see his bicep. And when he decided to fight Shanks again after the Wano arc. He decided to use his new move Dammed Punk. Which had 'Punk 07' written on the barrel. • His overall character design and Devil Fruit power could based off the victorian punk events mostly common in the United Kingdom. In fact, is ship is literally named Punk Victoria/Victoria Punk. • His crewmate and right-hand, Killer, wears a mask similar to the head/helmet of Punk 01: Shaka(Good). Which most fans think his based off the famous french music group Daft Punk. • During the end credits of the non canon movie, Film: Z. There was an image of Kid as a child with a wrench in one hand, and in the other a self-made toy robot. The image itself is non canon as well. But think about it, this could be the link to Kid being Vegapunk's relative/creation. And it was a hinted way back in 2012/2015. I can't remember when exactly this film hit the cinemas. • The start of the Egghead Island arc. When Punk 02, Lilith(Evil) was attempting to steal from the Strawhats at sea. She used 8 specific mechanical sea beasts to surround the ship that the head specific treat resembling the Satellites. Including, Stella (Original Dr. Vegapunk). And one of them also had specific traits that look like Kid. It had a red mayne and black horns. Kind of small easter egg there. • After Trafalgar Law was beaten by Blackbeard. He was in critical condition. So he could of been either left out of the story for a while, or killed off. So it would be natural for Kid to replies his role in the story for a while. Plus I assumed that something like this would happen after Wano. Because of the amount of time that Law has had with the Strawhats. Plus, by the end of Dressrosa. We pretty much covered Law's backstory, motivation, and potential. Imagine if we got the same for Kid in the next arc or so after Egghead Island. His popularity could rival Law's. So having a connection with a important figure like Vegapunk increases the value of him in the story. In other words, Oda needs to give Kid a good backstory to to give him motivation and purpose. Not that I don't like his character, but he does need a bit more of a kick.
Kidd had so much potential, but the way Oda handled him was disappointment after disappointment. When Oda dropped his backstory in an SBS, that was the final nail in the coffin imo. Another casualty of character bloat, I guess
Kid is done. He is the real embodiment of an MC but without plot armor. This is Oda literally saying you can't survive any anime without plot armor 😂😂. But I also like your point about Kid's magnet power always assembling him back even though he's been broken apart many times. After all, the devil fruit chooses its user. I hope he will get his comeback. If not he's always been "Useless Cap Mid"
Only Zoan devil fruits have a will, kidd made it to the point of become stronger than any yonko commander, without any special training from some top tier like Mihawk or Rayleigh. He always had it harder than Luffy and had to get stronger through fighting deadly fights in the New World. I respect him. He just doesn't have any plot Armor
I think it’s unfair to say Kidd is a bad rival. He was never really set up as a rival in the first place. Luffy doesn’t necessarily have a direct rival. The closest is BB since they started their journey as captains around the same time. But even then he’s not really a rival. He’s an antagonist with many similar parallels.
he was set up as a rival like this shit isn't debatable, Shiki literally says "oh there's someone might be stronger than you" you can't interpert this scene as anything other than set up for kid to be luffy one of luffy main rivals
Ima just respond to both of you at once^^ And say that just because he was introduced with a higher bounty than Luffy never made Kidd his rival. If anything you could say that all of Kidds build up to this point was specifically as a comparison to Luffy in which Oda used to Hype up shanks’ power. Basically he’s only been here to show how far away from the top tier Luffy still is. Nothing more, nothing less. Luffy doesn’t even acknowledge Kidd as a top tier force or threat. What kind of Rival doesn’t even have the ATTENTION of the Character he’s supposed to be competing against. Like gtfoh
@@rainh2o468 Your extrapolating on shit that isn't there, whether or not you think he's set up as Luffys rival or not is irrelevant since the author framed him as Luffys edgy counterpart: he has conqueres haki, has crew mate who's also a supernova, he has the same goal as Luffy, he's a dreamer who fights people who laughs at his dreams (exact opposite to Luffy), he's crew is so loyal they'd rather beg for their captain's life rather than have him die. The foundation of making him a rival is undoubtedly there it's just Oda deciding later on he doesn't want to do that anymore
The potrayal of kid's character we got so far is through a very narrow lens. We have seen him getting smashed before getting back up again. But our focused periods of Kid was when he is with Luffy. Luffy is not a character who would not believe if the other person had a dream. But other characters with lofty dreams like Zoro and Coby decided to seek tutelage under the finest mentors they could possibly get. So did Luffy. Kid always seemed like a rival to Luffy cause Luffy let him feel that way and he was stupid enough not to understand the difference. The DBZ verse has a Vegeta but it also has a Yamcha who was shown as a possible rival to Goku for a long time.
Kids role in the story was literally to show the dangers of the new world, how quickly your dreams can end, how Luffy could have been if he was unlucky or didn't listen to his crew more and he and Killer served as a way to give Shanks authority and eliminate Big Mom from the story. Literally every single one piece fan, YTer and creator 3-4 years ago asked how in the world could Luffy and the SHs beat two Yonko without ass pulls and guess what? Of all the criticism I hear ABOUT Wano, the defeat of Big Mom and Kaido aren't described as Ass Pulls. Wano was too long, had pacing issues and suffered from a bloated cast but tbh the role of Kid is not one.
Firstly, let me clarify two points. In my opinion, Luffy, Zoro, Law, and Sanji are stronger than Kidd. Secondly, I believe Mihawk is stronger than Shank. For those who disagree with this, it seems they may not be thinking clearly. Some people often mention Vista and Jozu in this discussion. Jozu managed to block a casual attack from Mihawk, and people seem to use this as evidence that Mihawk cannot cut diamonds. However, it is important to note that even if someone blocks a casual attack from a professional, it does not mean they are at the same level as the professional. In One Piece, swordsmen tend to match their opponents' strength and gradually improve their own strength. Now, let's return to the topic of Shank and Mihawk. One may wonder why Mihawk refuses to fight Shank if he is not as strong as him. The truth is, Mihawk no longer sees Shank as his rival since he lost his hand, making it an unfair fight. This statement suggests that Mihawk is stronger than Shank. Some people try to justify Shank's strength by claiming he has better haki than Mihawk, but this is just an excuse. The fact remains that Mihawk is stronger than Shank. Shank is a swordsman and Mihawk is a swordsman but Mihawk is the strongest swordsman so you tell each is stronger?
All these points make me think he's an even more well written character. Kid _is_ really similar to Luffy... except for their true ambitions and morals. Somewhat similar to blackbeard. Kid can barely do the right thing, and his mistakes catch up to him. Luffy's choices of morality gives him help from figures like Kuma where Kid would have just been killed by Kizaru if he did the same thing. He's not planning-oriented like Blackbeard, and he doesn't earn support like Luffy, so his future is always bleak.
Morj I feel as though you miss part of the point of Kid's character. From the get go whe was shown to be "like luffy" except that the major difference was Kid's disregard for civilians. His moral compass is much shallower than luffy. The contrast of the giants using the same words as shanks in romance dawn; shows that Kid's selfish desire is something that differs from luffy. Luffy will slow or stop his journey to help someone he just met; to save a country or rescue someone. Kid was shown early to devastate innocent people during his conquests. Shank's future sight shows that Kid has NOT learned any lessons like Luffy did; that he has a disregard for life that luffy does not; and is lacking the honor that luffy and shanks have. Kid isn't a rival; but a contrast for luffy to show how important luffy's strengths are BESIDES his devil fruit/stregnth/haki/etc. Kid isn't just luffy without the lesson of sabaody; kid is luffy without shank's influence and honor.
The strangest thing about Kidd is how his DF is used. There’s just no reason why he didn’t make Punk Megazord or Gundam, like a junk supersized Franky Shogun similar to what Bullet made. Then he can at least coat it in Haki for a really cool black mech with magnetic weapons..
I think the reason some readers are disappointed is that they expected more of Kid than what Oda intended. Think about it: Morj brings up Sasuke and Vegeta as a comparison, but is Kid anywhere near their level? Those two are like the deuteragonists of their stories. Then there's Kid, one of the *eleven* hotshots that landed on Sabaody. His biggest showing is that he had a supporting role in the story's 31st arc. Simply put, I don't think he's anywhere near as important to One Piece than what Sasuke or Vegeta or Bakugo are to their series.
"More than what Oda intended" Ah no. I'm pretty sure people are disappointed because Oda didn't even deliver the bare minimum of what he intended Kidd to be. He set him up to be Luffy's rival. Having a Conqueror's Haki and even having the higher bounty than Luffy during the initial introduction. He paints him to be his closest rival of all the Supernovas and yet doesn't even try enough to actually write about it other than surface levels stuffs. Shallow wrting
@@justaway6901 When I saw the Udon prison scenes with Kidd and Luffy I was just disappointed because I was thinking : Oda do you want us to take Kidd seriously as a rival here ? it didn’t make sense

So true, more people should look at it like that
@@rupertgordonii6623
Dude Kid was introduced 600 chapters ago and has been a major player in Wano, I think he should have already gotten his character development.
@@Poio_Freido ikr
You're forgetting that he should have been humbled by getting his arm taken by Ben Beckman. That actually happened before the Kaido incident.
Great point! People seem to have forgotten he played a major role in taking BM!
He did think he could take Kaido on tho, he had the chance to join the Beast Pirates like Hawkins but he chose to fight

Best analogy ever!! Pride gets you destroyed after all 😂
your one of the only people ive seen on the internet who seem to understand kidds narrative purpose.
Discretion is the better part of valor.
That's the supposed idea. You can extrapolate and expand on that idea by projecting your own meaning. But the reality is that it was not delivered well in the story. Idea is the first thing, execution of that idea is another thing. This is how narrative works. And the Oda wrote it very badly.

In terms of Haki and even DF, I believe the Luffy with 1.5 billion was already a good match for the Kid we have right now. I don't see Kidd wining against Katakuri
@@gravito1573 You haven't read One Piece properly if you think Katakuri can do even half as good as Kidd did against Big Mom.
@@underpressure1954 oh ? Given Katakuri the future sight, Kid Won't even be able to fight him. During the Onigashima war, Kid was just lucky that he could hit Big mom and Kaido, infact, Kaido let him attack. Big mom was just goofying around she could have ended him way before. She dodged NOTHING. I don't see Katakuri tanking any attacks of Kid, because Kid is not that fast, he showed NOTHING to prove that he has good Haki, all he did was awakening his DF and that's it, KATAKURI has way more abilities. Plus Katakuri was stronger and faster than Luffy during Whole Cake, this same Luffy that I believe, is better than Kid even with his fruit awakened. Remember, Kid and Law never defeated Big mom properly, she was still ready to fight, means even their awakening wasnt enough to really bring her down. So next Time, I rather you to remain silence. Kid went from 400million Berry to 3 billion and won thanks to plot armor and because Oda didnt treat Big mom properly. He would have been destroyed way before if it wasnt for the plot armor and the New generation shit. So believe it or not, Kid is just a big fraud, at the time he had the same amount of bounty as Luffy, mainly because he was destroying small villages, and innocent people, while Luffy was fighting Kingdom bosses straight up. Kid never been to Luffy's level. That 3 billion Berry, is too much of bullshit given the circoumstances he earned it
@@gravito1573 It's so funny how much you are seething over a fictional character you don't like being successful
Observation Haki doesn't mean shit when Katakuri isn't fast enough to dodge him. Big Mom is relative in speed to Kaido ( they fought to death for 3 days straigth ), Kaido in base absolutely blitzed Luffy who was about as fast as Katakuri and also had Future Sight.
Unless you think that random bombs do more damage than Law and Kid's attacks ( ONE Shock Wille from Law made a hole that dwarfed mountains )
We don't know about Kid's bounty before his 3 billion mark.

To have him in Wano ultimately feels like an after thought. He was only there to have it make sense narratively to take down a Yonko with two of the best in the worst generation.
It doesn’t even make sense narratively because Big Mom was built up throughout the story as Luffy’s opponent. What you mean is thematically which easily could’ve been accomplished by Luffy because he is a member of the worst generation too and has been making bigger waves
@@chinuaalibatya7345 you needed an ally to take down the yonko. Kid made somewhat sense
It doesn't make sense narratively. He was just shoehorn into the arc. Same with big mom. Both of these characters felt like they didn't belong.
Main issue is we never saw him win before. Lets use naruto for example. Before sasuke lost to bee, we saw him win against dedira, ororachmaru and itachi. We never saw kid win except against big mom but that was a team up. Matter fact he have more losses than wins. Lost twice to shanks, once to kaido
@@Tkokat. No you don’t. You could’ve had Big Mom betray Kaido like the narrative had been setting up throughout Wano but went nowhere by having her attack him and weaken each other to the point that Luffy can beat them at the same time or you could have it be like a western style battle where all 3 are fighting and weakening each other with only Luffy left standing
I think the most satisfying turn out for this situation would be if Killer was the only survivor somehow, and Killer was the one to build the crew out of the remaining supernovas. Could be why we've gotten better character writing out of him.
Maybe also the fire breathing guy and the spear man, since they seem to be part of his inner circle, like how Beckman, Roux and Yassop are to Shanks.
I'm not a Kid fan but I will give him one thing. He does have a strong will even after all those L's.
9:37 "Haha, only if I lose!!" what was blud waffling about 💀
I honestly don't think we'll see a Kid comeback.

Kid is one of my most loved characters. He will be back, like you said, his character is all about getting destroied and assemble the pieces
Interviews with Oda really are a gift or curse that can bring clarity or confusion! I can’t make my mind up if Oda is planning for Kid to be a important character and he’s not dead or if he just mad Law the important character after he saw how popular he was 🤦♂️
It’s pretty clear at this point
I was willing to oversee everything cuz he was a cool concept and expected some payoff. What a letdown though.

One piece always breaks shonen tropes he’s not meant to be a basic rival I imagine

@@jocoolshow Oda went out of his way to emphasize that only Law was doing lasting damage.... I think that it was a showcase of what will happen on the future.

Also really makes the “maybe we really have a chance now” line from Killer against Kaido stand out even more now 🤔
That's bullshit. Kid > Killer
this was the first time being shown kid's defeat. and other defeats were seen as setbacks whereas this (also being the actual first time shanks has legitimately displayed his true strength) was really emphasized as an utter and terrifying annihilation. you're right tho, had kid had more focus, or maybe already had a headstart on poneglyphs and a larger crew with more resources. something like gary oak to ash. then seeing this defeat would have meant more for seeing kid wiped out.
Useless Captain Mid and his first mate Filler 😂😂😂
It's known that the supernovas were a very late addition to the sabody arc. We've already seen a few of them pretty much become irrelevant already. I feel like Oda came up with the Kidd concept but never felt motivated to fully flesh him out or fit it into the overall narrative properly.
Instead he just used him conveniently to add more bulk to Wano and hype up both Kaido and Shanks. I get the feeling he just didn't enjoy writing Kidd as a character as much as Law.
I’d like to add he hates drawing him fighting because his machines are so intricately designed
Heard oda originally wanted kidd to be what law ended up being but his editors recommended it be law instead because of popularity
feel like kidd is just this generations gecko moria/crocodile
This dude creates his own head canon with his awful theories and is now messing up his analysis, the whole character flew over his head lmao
Please, enlighten us
@@john-olivierlukama1548 Kid was never written as a rival, a character with that role needs to be developed and showcase his skills, even in saboady he couldn’t fight a pacifista without Law’s crew he never won a battle by himself, the most important element of a rivalry is to bring the best of each other, and luffy has nothing to learn from kid.
Oda himself stated that the supernovas weren’t even planned, and they appeared close to the mid point of the story, their function in the story is just to measure future threats
A pacifista? Kid and laws crews together
Kisaru? Defeated easily 4 captains
Snack? 1 post time skip urouge
These group of characters are meant to facilitate sub plots in specific parts of the story. Thats it
The character lacked the development, the characterization and the function of a rival because is not one.
Fans just thought luffy needed a sasuke or vegeta.
Was never a Kid fan but always gave him the benefit of the doubt. But man, Its really sad if this is how Kid is gonna go out. Oda would really waste this character.

I’m convinced Oda just doesn’t know what he’s doing
Lmao
0:12 bold of you to assume that I ever took this "rivalry" seriously.
Luffy’s rival is Blackbeard. Law and Kidd have always been steps behind Luffy.
But that doesn’t change the fact that kid has been portrayed as a rival and he’s still the worst rival ever that’s the point of the video
I like kidd but I gotta say…I’m disappointed in my boy. Coulda at least got a clash, pushed shanks back or somethinnnnng but a ONE TAP?!?!? fuckkkkkkk
His oneshot was so staggering and unexpected because it puts Shanks at a higher tier than many readers thought previously possible
All of Morj's points hinge on Kidd being a letdown throughout the story and so he can't properly foil Luffy, but this is just wrong.
Links to this theory:
• Most of his special moves have the word punk in there names:
- Punk Gibson
- Punk Rotten
- Punk Vise
- Dammed Punk
- E.C.T
• All the Vegapunk Clones/Satellites have a designated number and a Japanese kanji that signifies what personality trait their based off.
Some devil fruits are wasted on people like Orochi and on Spamdam's Sword and Foxy 🤣
Go back and read Sabaody Arc and Udon Prison portion of Wano. He's set up as a direct foil to Luffy, saying otherwise is ignorant
he was set up as a rival like this shit isn't debatable, Shiki literally says "oh there's someone might be stronger than you" you can't interpert this scene as anything other than set up for kid to be luffy one of luffy main rivals
Ima just respond to both of you at once^^
And say that just because he was introduced with a higher bounty than Luffy never made Kidd his rival. Like gtfoh
Kidd is closer to Jewelry Bonney and Capone to Luffy than he is Akainu or BB to Luffy. Lets just be real here
@@rainh2o468 Your extrapolating on shit that isn't there, whether or not you think he's set up as Luffys rival or not is irrelevant since the author framed him as Luffys edgy counterpart: he has conqueres haki, has crew mate who's also a supernova, he has the same goal as Luffy, he's a dreamer who fights people who laughs at his dreams (exact opposite to Luffy), he's crew is so loyal they'd rather beg for their captain's life rather than have him die.
The foundation of making him a rival is undoubtedly there it's just Oda deciding later on he doesn't want to do that anymore
This video will age very badly, I'll remember this
One of the funniest, if not the funniest, character analysis video Morj has ever done🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This man Lorj cannot stand when his theories don’t come true 😂
I put off watching this as long as possible due to loving this thumbnail and wanting to keep seeing it in my feed.
Shank is a swordsman and Mihawk is a swordsman but Mihawk is the strongest swordsman so you tell each is stronger?
kid is not bad but (oda) he is wasting devil fruits potential. the fruit is super cool. I don't understand why Law gets all the hype up his ass
Kid is a terrible character
Well said. I hope he matures at least just a little from here on out

Kidd really didn't have the emphasis that a lot of you seem to think he had. He was NEVER that guy. He was never going to BE that guy.
"More than what Oda intended"
Ah no.
