I've watched every Pct documentary I can find and lived vicariously through everyone who has completed this extraordinary journey. Nothing has touched me quite like your film and the way you've so elegantly captured the essence of a thru hike and the significance of the people who helped make your journey. Simply amazing and a privilege to have watched.
Yes. This is the best thru hike movie I have ever watched. So well done. Great music soundtrack used and probably cost a bundle to use. The key to why it was so good was the focus on the stories of the individual people on the journey. I got a huge surprise to see Ali (Road runner) feature as a main character in this story as she is an acquaintance of mine in Australia and I knew she had hiked the pct in 2018. So great to see part of her journey. It was worth the 1-2 years to edit this to get this sort of quality engagement. That is what it takes to produce this level of professional content. Well done Chris. Blue Boy
@@chriscartermedia Small world indeed. After watching some footage of her, I now know why she has the trail name road runner - she runs down the hills like the road runner cartoon bird.... Classic.

j k I began in the Fall of 2018. My military experience (USMC infantry) made some of the life much more easy for me than for many hikers half my age, BUT there were things I still had to learn. Kit weight and logistics required a serious adjustment. You are on your own (some exceptions obviously), and that is a different dynamic than the team effort of military operations. Also, military gear tends to be ruggedized/heavy duty which = too heavy for daily long miles. Compromises have to be made. I still do not like flimsey gear, but the load has to be manageable. I don't go with the flimsey popular hiker footwear, and I carry "camp shoes", a good survival kit, etc. (Extra weight), but I minimize on my shelter by using a small tarp and/or a bivy top (I cut out the bottom, zipper and snaps). I have minimized my first aid, and I have worked toward more dual-purpose gear/clothing options such as a lightwight raincoat that doubles as a windbreaker (not ideal for either, but it works). My biggest recommendations for long hikers (long in days out no less than long in distance covered) is nothing new, but I still see far too many hikers who miss the point (which is ok as a personal choice, but still sad imo). I'm 30 years old with kids. I did small hikes between 5 and 50 miles as a teenager. before I watched this video last month I had not hiked for over 10 years. This video just came up in my suggested videos and now I am planning the john muir trail and others! Well done video! I am so happy I am back into hiking. I hike 5 to 10 miles every day in Tucson AZ.
From time to time I find something that reminds me of the simple beauty of walking. I too am a thru-hiker. The indelible mark it leaves draws a new line as to what I can do and what I want to do. Thank you for sharing your story. "The joy of the adventure lies more in the community than the landscapes you travel through and that a journey is measured more in friends you make than the miles you travel" Well done Chris.
I agree with Chip Carters comment, absolutely the best trail movie. I just finished watching and I am bummed its over. I have got to say I felt all your emotion at the end. From the desert, to rock climbing, to the winter challenges up in the Cascades. What a journey!
This is Mosey, I was about 5 days ahead of you at Tuolumine Meadows. Since you were doing much bigger days than I, we probably crossed paths somewhere around Tahoe. EMT, pronounced "Empty" and I took a zero in South Lake Tahoe. I was solo when I got to the Hat Creek Rim and had hiked through smoke since leaving the half way point. That night I stayed at the Burney Guest Ranch and the next morning it was so smoky that I decided to flip to Washington, that was August 9th. Knowing that there were still trail closures in and around the northern terminus I started SOBO from Stevens Pass on August 26 and hiked to the Columbia where I finally left the trail for the season. I tried again in 2019 but injured my back near San Jacento and left the trial after trying to get well off the trail for 5 days. I August 2019 I went back to Burney and sectioned the rest of California and then on to Willamette Pass where once again I left the trail and went home. We all know how 2020 went, no hiking. This year, 2021, I'm planning to go back to Willamette Pass and go to the northern terminus. I have such a longing for the trail and your film reenforced my love of through hiking. Hope to finish the trail this year but I still long to go back to Campo, once again, and complete the journey in one season. Wishing everyone, Happy Trails. "Mosey"

Beautiful! I'm a hiking video junkie and have watched everything I can on the PCT and CDT. This is among the best. Thoughtfully narrated, shot and edited, you captured both the physical beauty of this adventure and the emotional challenge of the accomplishment. Well done and congratulations on your feat.
I've watched countless PCT thru-hike documentaries and this by far will go down as one of my top 5 videos. Very well-done, thought-out production. Also, very inspirational journey with many highs, lows and heart-felts short stories mixed within. Very much enjoyed watching it and sharing the journey you'al went on.
One of the most captivating things I've ever watched. A real inspiring documentary that makes you want to get up and make it happen. Much Respect from South Africa
Few things... 1) This film was insightful, thought provoking, and elicited emotion that I didn't think it would going in. 2) I love the rawness of this. Everyone brags about FKTs, gear weight, etc. This film broke away from that and focused on just what the experience really is, not planning and gear, but struggle, triumph, and friendship (with both humans and Nature herself) 3) This Spotify playlist is now one of my go-to listens for a feel-good pick me up. Stellar musical choices! 4) F*#king KUDOS!!! You rocked this trail!!!!!! Maybe we'll see ya 'out there' Much gratitude, Molly Lou
Every pct video I watch makes me insanely emotional. I cried when you started crying at the last mile and I have never done a through hike, I can only imagine the feelings you described. Truly bitter sweet. I hope to do this one day.
Chris, EPIC video. One of THE BEST I have seen in my 9 years of following hikers on the PCT... it brought back many memories... I attempted this hike in 2012 (heart issue kicked me off) and in 2017 (micro fractures and then giardiasis kicked me off). You story telling is amazing... your video pro level... this is an amazing documentary... Thank you for sharing your experience, journey and thoughts.... Cheers man...
Man Steve I really appreciate the kind words! I'm stoked that it resonated with you and brought back some good memories. I'm sorry to hear that injuries prevented you from finishing before, but any time spent in those mountains is life-changing!
One of the best hiking videos I’ve ever watched. As an older hiker (67) you realize that some journeys may be out of reach, but others replace them. Like you say towards the end, there are different miles . . . each of us has our own challenge, our own thing to do. Do it.
This documentary made me laugh, smile, cry, and experience every other emotion, that I can’t describe with words. Movie is absolutely brilliant in terms of filmography, but what made me hooked from the very beginning is that you captured life in a way that it actually is. Sometimes simple, sometimes tough, and mostly unpredictable. Thank you for inspiring, I can’t wait to measure my own miles!
After watching your gear video for your upcoming Continental Divide and Appalachian Trail hikes, I came back to watch this entire doc again. I'm 61 and there could be so many excuses to allow myself to slow down through the years, watching Netflix and watching my grandchildren grow, but I feel as though I'm finally just getting started, setting hiking goals that seem lofty to me given some physical issues (my goal is 1200 KM of hiking this year, when two years ago I had trouble walking 1 KM at a time). Your story and those of others who share their journeys are such important sources of inspiration. I want to be a role model for my children and grandchildren, but I especially want to thrive on spending a lot of my time in the wilderness. I've concocted some pretty crazy plans in my head for hikes I want to do in coming years. My objective is to be in the best physical shape of my life within 2 years, and to spend my retirement years doing at least one extended backpacking trip every year. Somehow, you make it seem possible. Thank you, and I can't wait to hear about your CDT and AT journeys.
Hey Chris, congratulations on finishing the PCT and on producing such a wonderful documentary. (My favorite) Also, thank you for every time you stopped to pull out your camera when every part of your body and mind didn’t want to!
Thanks Tim I appreciate the kind words. And thanks for recognizing that haha, it’s a struggle at times but also capturing the world around you helps take your mind off the monotony, and focus on the artistic side of creation.
I'm now 18 and I've always wanted to hike the pct. I've watch thousands of videos on people's journey and yours has to one of the most spectacular I've seen.
This is an ABSOLUTELY fantastic documentary! Honestly the footage you captured is stunningly incredible - and your description of everything is just so so so so good!!! I loved everything about this! I’ve been obsessed with learning about thru hiking - and so have watched a ton of videos….and this by far is the best!! Thank you so much. I’m EVEN more inspired now!!
I leave may 22nd 2023 for my own journey on the PCT and I admit.. I ate a whole bag of 500mg thc gummies and waited 2h so when I watched this film... it was another level.. great work on your edit and showing spirit of life in your film. I'm stoked to leave now. Favorite film of the PCT. CDT or AT next?
This is one of the best PCT documentary I’ve watched. I’ve been saving for a PCT thruhike attempt in 2022 or 2023. I have had my doubts over the past year and a half as it has taken away hiking in general; besides my vacation time and holidays. I’ve been struggling without hiking in my life. This documentary gave me hope and got me excited for a attempt in a few years.
Absolutely the BEST Pacific Crest Trail movie! You inspired me! It made me feel like I was there! It made me want to BE THERE! Wow! Thank you so much for whatever it took to create this! It was wonderful!
To be an extreme hiker, a well versed narrator with a creative eye, and a skilled editor... you produced gold! This is hands down the best thru-hiking documentary I've had the pleasure of viewing and I'm hoping it helps me find my tone as I write about my experience on the AT (2020 NOBO). I agree 100% this all comes down to mind over matter. The body can do amazing things if your mind allows it. Cheers, Chris!
this trail almost killed me twice, in 2003 and in 2020, what I like about this is that this video shows the upside and the down sides of the trail, this video was inspirational! You guys are rad!
Rad! Soo many beautiful people(and views) in this incredible film. Thanks for putting this in the world for our eyes and hearts. Might be one of the best PCT films to date.
It made me cry. “If you can put your mind and heart in it, you can do anything.” ❤ It’s such an amazing documentation of their personal experience I haven’t come across any of such thing. Great work guys!!
All the feels of a professional documentary. Beautiful cinematography and editing, but above all, captivating storytelling. Had to sit down and look at a calendar after this to see when a PCT thru hike might be possible for me.
The best PCT video yet. Love that you started your bucket list so early. You will have a lifetime to fill it. Great choreography and story telling. You’ve made me want to try again at age 59. Thank you. Oh and 80 miles, you are a beast!
An absolute feat. Many tumultuous miles but incredibly rewarding. Thanks for fueling my enthusiasm for the trail. It is a pleasure to come across such high quality documentation. Vlogs have their place but this had the HEART of a film. Amazing!
Glad my son, Jonathan, sent me this link. Awesome job on the video. I was hooked from the jump! I laughed, I cried... From someone not overly familiar with the PCT, it was enjoyable learning and it really captured the journey well without overly drawing it out. Thanks for sharing your experience.
You and your fellow PCT thru hikers displayed the absolute peak of human endurance. Your vlog is superbly recorded in every sense and I am amazed that you all kept hiking through all kinds of extreme physical adversity. I hope you all recovered fully and hope to see you again when you thru hike once more.
Really appreciate the kind words Raymond! We fully recovered well for the most part haha, and are gearing up for another hopeful thru of the CDT next year 🤞
So amazing. The video, the music, the narration. Thanks for bringing us along on your journey. You captured the struggle, the joys, the journey. Oh man. I want to watch it again and again.
This was quite possibly one of the best and most inspiring films I've ever watched. Coupled with the most jealous I've ever been as I've wanted to hike the PCT and climb in Yosemite for years!
Chris, I loved your video, script, and craftsmanship. I know how hard it is to capture the glory of thru-hiking into a compelling story and package it in an hour and I was transported back to the trail with your video. Inspiring. - Ben

Chris, my dear friend, and during the course of this film, you have become my very dear friend, the words “thank you” seem far too inadequate to express my gratitude. My friend, you have taken me on an incredible journey I would never have otherwise known. Through beautiful poetry and photography, you have woven together the beauty of nature’s harshness and tenderness. And Chris, more importantly, you shared the vey personal journey of your soul. You have taught me the true “measure of a mile”. I am forever changed. Thank you.
Your documentary of the PCT inspires. Your narration is so descriptive and easy to listen too. So amazing! Your cinematography is just pure art and what a great soundtrack to put with it. Hoping you do more documentaries, because this one leaves us wanting more. Also, loved seeing your friends on the trail and the tour of "the house". This is a gorgeous film.

I agree with Chip Carters comment, absolutely the best trail movie. I just finished watching and I am bummed its over. I have got to say I felt all your emotion at the end. From the desert, to rock climbing, to the winter challenges up in the Cascades. What a journey!
I really appreciate it man, I'm stoked you resonated with it!
"Mosey"
Thanks for taking me with you on this trip. I loved every second of this.
Amazing! Thank you!
I didn't want it to end.
I copied your music credits into my hiking playlist.

Wow, what a fantastic film!
Beautiful account of their trip. I would pay to watch this in a movie theatre.
🙏🙏
Dud! Hands down the best pct documentary I've watched. Well done my friend
Beautiful! I'm a hiking video junkie and have watched everything I can on the PCT and CDT. This is among the best. Thoughtfully narrated, shot and edited, you captured both the physical beauty of this adventure and the emotional challenge of the accomplishment. Well done and congratulations on your feat.
Thanks Nicholas I appreciate the kind words man! Stoked you resonated with it.
Wow, Paula really is an Angel. What a beautiful gesture.
Few things...
1) This film was insightful, thought provoking, and elicited emotion that I didn't think it would going in.
2) I love the rawness of this. Everyone brags about FKTs, gear weight, etc. This film broke away from that and focused on just what the experience really is, not planning and gear, but struggle, triumph, and friendship (with both humans and Nature herself)
3) This Spotify playlist is now one of my go-to listens for a feel-good pick me up. Stellar musical choices!
4) F*#king KUDOS!!! You rocked this trail!!!!!!
Maybe we'll see ya 'out there'
Much gratitude,
Molly Lou
Appreciate the kind words Molly 🙏🙏
So who out there is planning on this trekking adventure???
Let me know so to start planning later this year or for next year !!!
Beautiful film you are all an inspiration to us.
Some things have a level of beauty that no words come close to describing it. This! I have no words! ❤
I have watched your documentary several times ...And I always cry along with you at the end of your journey.
Thanks for the kind words Anastasia.
I love what I think is a nod to valley uprising in the beginning, It's a great song. This is an amazing documentary too!
Glad you caught that, one of my fav songs and films for sure.
I'm now 18 and I've always wanted to hike the pct. I've watch thousands of videos on people's journey and yours has to one of the most spectacular I've seen.
Keep that dream alive.
Definitely the best documentary about the PCT I've ever seen!!!
This rocked my world. Thank you for sharing all this crazy inspiration. Now I want to go go go, immediately
Brought the raw emotions of the trail to life, quite the film right here. Journey of a lifetime!
🙏🙏
I leave may 22nd 2023 for my own journey on the PCT and I admit.. I ate a whole bag of 500mg thc gummies and waited 2h so when I watched this film... it was another level.. great work on your edit and showing spirit of life in your film. I'm stoked to leave now. Favorite film of the PCT. CDT or AT next?
Eish Bongoolio! This is too good! So stoked I got to share some of this gnarly and amazing adventure with you! This is legendary brother!
Eh bwana, I appreciate that! Thankful for you and the role you played in this trip!
The kindness of that woman at 10-12 minutes is beyond generous
This is one of the best PCT documentary I’ve watched. I’ve been saving for a PCT thruhike attempt in 2022 or 2023. I have had my doubts over the past year and a half as it has taken away hiking in general; besides my vacation time and holidays. I’ve been struggling without hiking in my life. This documentary gave me hope and got me excited for a attempt in a few years.
Thanks for the kind words Ryan! Hope you get to give it a shot at some point.
Absolutely the BEST Pacific Crest Trail movie! You inspired me! It made me feel like I was there! It made me want to BE THERE! Wow! Thank you so much for whatever it took to create this! It was wonderful!
You're the best!!
Incredible capture of the true spirit of long distance hiking, felt like I was there (again).
This is my all time favorite PCT documentary. Your narration made it wonderful. Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us. Hike On!!!
Thanks tons Jason! Stoked you enjoyed it.
Stumbled upon your video and channel... One of the best hiking films in youtube.. you earned my sub.. congrats and awesome film!
Appreciate the kind words man means a lot!
One of the best PCT documentaries EVER!
The best PCT documentary out there!
It deserves a lot more views.
🙏🙏
You should also do CDT. It would make a great movie.
@@taavettuisk8539 I’m hoping to do the CDT next year, and plan on documenting that too!
Greetings from Scotland. 🏴🥃 What an amazing film, what a journey. Defo need to get across the pond & hike 1 day. Maybe the John Muir Trail.
One of the best PCT movies if not the best that I have ever watched! Thanks so much for sharing this gem!
Thanks so much Jim, very kind of you!
this trail almost killed me twice, in 2003 and in 2020, what I like about this is that this video shows the upside and the down sides of the trail, this video was inspirational! You guys are rad!
Rad! Soo many beautiful people(and views) in this incredible film. Thanks for putting this in the world for our eyes and hearts. Might be one of the best PCT films to date.
Photo-op! My guy, thank you for the kind words. We had a solid year of beautiful hikers to share the adventure with for sure.
It made me cry. “If you can put your mind and heart in it, you can do anything.” ❤
It’s such an amazing documentation of their personal experience I haven’t come across any of such thing. Great work guys!!
All the feels of a professional documentary. Beautiful cinematography and editing, but above all, captivating storytelling. Had to sit down and look at a calendar after this to see when a PCT thru hike might be possible for me.
Stoked this inspired you to dream of a thru, hope it works out for you!
This is The best thing iv seen on UA-cam for a very long time !! Cant wait for more, kudos for the great editing 👏
The best PCT video yet. Love that you started your bucket list so early. You will have a lifetime to fill it. Great choreography and story telling. You’ve made me want to try again at age 59. Thank you. Oh and 80 miles, you are a beast!
Thanks for the kind words Greg! Stoked it inspired you to get on the trail at 59, best of luck to you that's incredible!
Just incredible. Thank you for letting me in on your journey. 🙏🏻
There is no way I could ever do something like that, so I thank you for taking me along for the journey.
An absolute feat. Many tumultuous miles but incredibly rewarding. Thanks for fueling my enthusiasm for the trail. It is a pleasure to come across such high quality documentation. Vlogs have their place but this had the HEART of a film. Amazing!
🙏🙏
Glad my son, Jonathan, sent me this link. Awesome job on the video. I was hooked from the jump! I laughed, I cried... From someone not overly familiar with the PCT, it was enjoyable learning and it really captured the journey well without overly drawing it out. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks Chris I appreciate it, glad you resonated with it!
Also I’m a huge fan of your son haha! Just realized you are Jonathan Chapman’s Dad, love the dude tons.
@@chriscartermedia LOL! We have that in common! I'm proud to be his dad.
@@chrischapman3707 you should be!
Excellent film! I love the PCT!
Congratulations! Outstanding film.
WOW... not sure if exist a word/s to describe such a master piece! mind blowing and just perfect! thanks!! greetings from an Argentinian in USA!
We fully recovered well for the most part haha, and are gearing up for another hopeful thru of the CDT next year 🤞
What fun to stumble onto this gem of a film. Thanks!
So amazing. The video, the music, the narration. Thanks for bringing us along on your journey. You captured the struggle, the joys, the journey. Oh man. I want to watch it again and again.
Thank you so much!
I cried with you. I'm a Cali native, and live in Oregon now. Thanks for this. So emotional. ♥
This was quite possibly one of the best and most inspiring films I've ever watched. Coupled with the most jealous I've ever been as I've wanted to hike the PCT and climb in Yosemite for years!
🙏🙏
Chris, I loved your video, script, and craftsmanship. I know how hard it is to capture the glory of thru-hiking into a compelling story and package it in an hour and I was transported back to the trail with your video. Inspiring. - Ben
Ben I really appreciate it man. I remember watching your doc on the AT with your family last year and feeling super inspired, such an amazing accomplishment!
Hey Chris, thank you for this beautiful movie. Thank you for let us a part of your journey and your crew. The energy you convey is pure and unique! You guys and especially you are inspiring. Just the best wishes for you! :) PCT 2024 is in the making. :) Greetings from far east Germany
Thank you.
This is absolutely the best hiking/backpacking video I have ever watched. You are a gifted storyteller. Thank you for sharing this gift with us!
Thanks tons Eric!
Simply put, I can't believe how good this doc was. Bravo, and thank you!
Thanks for the kind words Pamela, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for this. Brings back a lot of my own memories. I'm a 2017 AT thru hiker taking on the PCT 2027. God willing the CDT 2037. My wife only allowing me a thru hike every 10 years. 😂 .....
