There is no way to explain how this 2 1/2 hours of video affected my emotions. I am 73 years old, I have lived my whole life in flat land Houston, Texas… resenting many years of it. You see like you and your wife my soul is happiest in the mountains, hiking trails, and seeing nature. The journey you took on this adventure in your life is something I would give anything to have gotten to do. I think it would have altered the time I spend in flatland lol. Thank you for taking the time to document this wonderful adventure that you and your wife were blessed enough to take. It was an awesome job of videography and production quality. Maybe one day when your children are old enough, you can take them on long hikes with you and relive with them The amazing memories the two of you hold in your heart.
It's excellent. It seems to highlight both the ups and the downs rather than the usual Sunshine and rainbows UA-cam vid about thru hiking or van life. You both seem like lovely people, thanks for putting this together.
This is an incredible piece of work! I’ve never felt so much care and emotion about a video on UA-cam! This deserves soo much more recognition and attention! Very well done on telling such a wonderful story, filled with highs and lows!
Been thinking for days about how exceptional this thru hike documentary is. I’m a weirdo and have watched maybe every PCT, AT, and CDT thru hike film and series and this is so clearly the best one. Beautifully shot, contemplative and candid, great editing. Could go on
Not only is this the best thru-hike video in existence, but this has to be the best personal documentary I’ve ever had the privilege of watching. You took us on an amazing journey. This is my new favorite accidental click, too.
My boyfriend and I have just decided that once we are done with school that we are going to go with two of our friends on this journey. We say down and watched this entire video. Your outlook on life has forever changed how I view life now. You spoke with such raw honesty that brought tears to my eyes more than once. At the end of the film there were cars on a highway and that baffles me because what you had hiked in days, they would finish in near hours. All I have to say is thank you so much for this and you have sparked a passion that is growing inside of my boyfriend and I. Thank you. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I watched about every pct documentary to date and this one’s gotta to be by far my favorite one. Its outstanding and so down to earth. Starting my hike in may I’m very excited and now even more pumped. Thank you for the video! I wish the best for you guys. Edit: I committed that before finishing the video and I’m now just gunna say the same thing but mean it more fully. This is hands down my favorite pct video ever. The last few segments are absolutely breathtaking and had me tearing up. The real reason or at least the main one on why I want to hike the pct is to really tap in to that living in the present moment. And really understanding that everything in life is impermanent. That there is a lot more to life than you know by the fact that you think you know it and are forcing you perspective of the world on to it. But in reality the present moment is the truth. Anyways I really love what you did here! Your insight on life is really beautiful. Hike your own hike, live your own life!
thanks for the kind words! good luck on your hike! It will definitely teach you things you didn't expect. Just go with an open mind. Don't expect it to be something. Just let it be what it is and center your joy in that. good luck!
I don’t know the words to write that would succinctly convey my feelings after watching this. Calm, grateful, contemplative, patient. God bless you both. Your child is blessed to have you two.
This was absolutely beautiful. Brilliant storytelling, and you both are wonderful. Favorite PCT video I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing your journey with the world. 💛
Im only half way through, but I think I understand why this took so long to be uploaded. 6 months of high quality footage edited down (very well) to 3 hours is insane! This deserves so much more attention! Also really enjoying the voice over portions, all that time to think really does make you realize the truly important things in life 👌🏻 Im only 25 but this video makes me want to start preparing and training for a thru hike of my own. Thanks for sharing this with the world 🌎
My wife and I went down the rabbit hole of watching all the PCT videos and like most commenters here, I agree that this is by far the best! Every hiker’s journey and perspective are unique but this captured the raw beauty of the highs and lows of living on trail. Loved every bit of it. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
How incredibly beautiful, this documentary made my heart sing. So graciously narrated. Hope you are both doing well, congratulations on your child. Thank you so very much for sharing your adventure. ❤
ha! no freaking way! I love your music! licensed it from musicbed. I think I've used a handful of your songs over the years for different things. Glad you enjoyed watching this!
I'm one who usually watches shorter videos. Yours kept me wondering what was next. Very informative and breathtaking. Honesty and encouragement throughout this journey was awesome. Real strength and patience comes from within us. Your Raw Experience and documentation is outstanding and inspirational. Thank you for offering us your amazing adventure. God bless & stay strong .
Categorically the GOAT when it comes to reflective monumental hiking experiences. Great capture of how life should be lived. Extraordinary cinematography and narration. You guys did remarkable work.
Very well done! I really enjoyed your perspective and outlook throughout your journey. You and your wife have re-ignited my wife and I's desire to hike the PCT...which has taken a back seat to the crazy world that has been around us since 2019; hiking in general has taken a back seat. Thank you!
God bless y’all! Fellow wanderer here and I love The Lord and am soooo thankful for this beautiful creation and life that he gave us. Fascinating and can’t wait for what is and what is to come. Great video, loved it!
Wow your film was INCREDIBLE. The length was Perfect. Wow and what an ending !!!! Man I was feeling it so much. The pace was so good with the pauses and narration perfectly placed. Feelings of my automne hikes came up. The crisp air, the stillness, the colors. Wow. You and all the other people in this movie made it great.
What an absolutely beautiful documentation of your journey. Truly inspiring. Thank you! The montage of friends and smiles near the end had me sobbing 😭
Wow. What an incredible journey. I’ve never been so emotional at the end of a vlog before. An absolute blast from start to finish. Congratulations to you both for completing such an epic adventure and I thank you humbly for sharing it with us all.
As someone who lives in Fort Worth and is hiking the trail this year, and then hearing Grapevine I flipped!! I'm so happy some Texan Alumnis did the trail! This film was beautiful! Thank you so much!
I think I've never commented on a UA-cam video before but I just have to say thank you for that absolutely amazing and incredibly insightful documentary of your thruhike. Always played with the thought of doing the PCT myself someday and now I have a much better understanding of the trail. Also especially the ending totally brought me back to how it felt finishing the Te Araroa Trail a couple of years ago. Made me really emotional. Thank you and I hope you're doing well and keep going on adventures together!
Brother what you said at 32:58 gave me goose bumps and if im being honest, even shedd a tear..just found your channel and now realizeing this video is 2 years old. better late than never. thank you Signed: Fan For Life
This was a great edit, thanks so much for taking the time to do it, and especially adding the perspective from years after your hike. I was class of ‘15 too. I started April 19 and it looks like I was just ahead of you through the first half of the desert, a bit behind you up to the middle of northern CA, then a little ahead of you through to Cascade Locks. I got off there but came back for WA in 2019. It was great seeing the same place and events (storms, etc) again at almost the same time but through your eyes. Thanks!
This is for some family members… I’m so grateful that they wanted to see the full documentary, so I got the gift to see this wonderful film! Thank you so much for sharing and all the best for you three. Tina from Germany
What an incredible documentary…professionally done. Truly inspirational!! Loved your patience and acceptance of the trail and your journey on it. Enjoyed every second. Sincerest “thank you!” for sharing.
You two are so beautiful, young and invite such profound insights. “Y’all want ta dance with us?” Love love love the pentatonic flute. I’ve done the eating challenges before. They’re never worth the glory of the win. I’m so thankful you shared this most excellent adventure. It seems I could feel your fatigue and pain, so deep in your eyes, so apparent on your dirty legs, so evident in your appreciation of goodness shared with you by strangers, even your speech patterns, breathing and the lack of confidence, all so incredibly endearing. The knowledge, wisdom and insite you share is much appreciated. Leaning into slowing down the days, cherishing the moments, because when they’re gone, they’re gone. Thank you from Kentucky. P.S. Your choice of music is magic.
I just watched your PCT experience. Very well edited. I really soaked in your “Patience” chapter. One phrase kept coming to mind… Living Water Thanks again
Just hiked through Mt Baker wilderness and came across this film, while looking for other clips. Totally blown away. Loved seeing how you both changed throughout the hike, and appreciated your editing and commentary. I got excited when I saw Stehekin, the road, the bus, the bakery! Definitely one of the best hiking vids I’ve seen. Loved it and almost cried at the end. Hope you’ve been able to make it back to WA state!
After reading 'Wild' a few years ago I've always been intrigued by the PCT trail so this was such a treat to watch. Thank you for sharing your epic adventure and sage insights Andrew. Big hugs from the UK.
I can’t tell you all the ways your beautiful trail story affected me. I am disabled and so enjoyed seeing your trip in such a way that I can’t experience but your trip brought me so much joy, hope and thoughtfulness. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing journey. 💛
Thank you !!!!! Sitting here in Brussels infront of my computer with tears in my eyes. Planning for being part of the class of 2025 after the kids are out of the house and we moved back to Germany. Some drastic german lyrics in your footage. Thanks again for 2.5 wonderful hours. Cannot wait to get started. All the best for you and your family.
Lord willing, I am going to add this hike to my bucket list. I turned 61 in July and visited the Paradise and Sunrise parks in Mt. Rainier. It was magical, the clean air, the majestic mountains that took my breath away. God presence was everywhere. Thank you for sharing this beautiful video.
Thank you so much for sharing this incredible journey and all the wonderful things and humans and all else along the way... The last scene with your dad picking up the pack is very touching ❤ all the best to both of you
Amazing "video". I hesitate with that word because it was an extremely personal view into your lives. Nothing in Hollywood compares to this real diary of life. I thank you for sharing such a wonderful period in your lives and giving the rest of us just a little inspiration to hike our own hike...
This was wonderfully shot, edited and presented. I'm sure you've motivated and aspired future travelers ahead. Best wishes to y'all and thanks so much for sharing! 🙂
to the Holeshoes, Thank you for posting this video. Your video is a great mix of trail and mountain scenery, with thoughtful and insightful comments about all that goes with a Through-Hike. . I have lived near the PCT for 50 years, and share your appreciation of that trail.
You so thoroughly captured the heart of the trail. This is one of the best PCT documentaries on UA-cam. Your documentary is a beautiful testimony to how a couple can persevere and tackle life together. You two are an example of how to a live a well lived life.
Absolutely stunning movie man. I’ve watched a hundreds of hours of these pct vids and this is by far the best. (I say that with a bunch of them) but this blows the rest of them away. The edit was professional and it could be a movie people watch at the theaters. Thank you for the hike and all the time you spent editing this for us. Will be watching for more.
I agree, this WAS Beautiful! Very well done, on so many levels. Made me smile and at times tears.(?) Even had me checking my pack and gear. I think it's In our blood! Thank you Thank you! Sending love and good will!
I have just spent a rainy, Saturday night here in Edinburgh, Scotland watching your trip.....thank you so much for sharing! I loved it. I have done a lot of hiking here in Scotland and can only try to imagine what it's like doing a hike that is sooooo many days in the same country!! Your storytelling was fantastic. I hate to think how long it took you to edit! What amazing memories to have!
Thanks so much for sharing your PCT story. And, what a great production. 😊 FYI I’ve read all of John Muir’s work as a way of gaining a deeper understanding of the US national parks. I seek out his quotes on a regular basis. Then there’s Aldo Leopold and Henry David Thoreau. BTW I’m from Australia 🇦🇺.....there are other books too.
You guys did a brilliant job on your documentary!! It was so much like being back on trail. The photographer captured the beauty, the narration captured the journey, and the way you put the story together with candor and courage was remarkable. Well done!!
Absolutely incredible!! It took me several days to finish because I kept rewinding wanting to relive the adventure and take in all the beautiful scenery. The PCT is on my bucketlist for the ccoming years and this video just solidifies my desire to do it. Absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing the journey!
Very nice! You have a lovely wife in Kristen who really showed how much she loves you by doing this hike. I thought she might quit early on when her ankle hurt. I love your thought and wisdom that you shared. The world really needs more patience that you mentioned. I had never seen where others had commented about the drug usage along the trail nor about how bad the mosquitoes were in the High Sierras. I am glad you made this a long video which was very well thought out and takes us away from all the crime we see everyday. It did not look like you lost any weight as others have experienced so you must have thought out your food wisely. Also, glad you have a church that you attend. Congratulations on having a child now. Thanks for sharing.
By far one the best PCT documentary. The honest commentary was heartfelt and inspiring to my soul. The graphics were an added plus to the story. Thank you for compiling months and miles of majestic scenery and the human spirit.
Thank you for this wonderful video. I only wish you had more of the Washington Cascades but I understand your need to keep it safe in your memories. Memories are what brought me to your site. I spent the years 1980 to 1995 riding my horses through those trails along the east side of the Cascades before they became so well loved and the fires came. I camped in the Alpine wilderness and along the PCT and above Chelan and all through the wilderness area with my friends. I’m 85 now and they are all gone but in my memories of those beautiful days they still live So again thank you and enjoy you memories
Watching this in 2024…what a great job you guys did with this. Thank you for your hard work and sharing it with us. Probably the best PCT documentary I have seen so far…🥰🥾🥾😎
Really enjoyed this documentary. So different than most PCT videos but exceptionally well done. I hiked in 2015 and was ahead of you two but often saw your resupply boxes. More Cowbell
Absolutely this video was amazing. You have an incredible ability to project through pictures and words this journey for so many. I have only been able to ever watch video's of this dream hike of mine. I have done section's and feel an emptiness that I need to do, by completely it all. Good for you all who get to live this adventure. The quote, "comparison is the thief of joy" is far too real. cheers.
thanks for the kind words! completing by sections is just as valid as a thru. it's more important what you get out of it. A friend of mine said "comparison is the thief of joy" in one of his sermons. the quote stuck with me ever since. It's all easier said than done though. Sorry to hear you're not able to thru hike for now. hopefully some day. If it's doing the right thing that's keeping you from it, then just remember you're doing the right thing. But if it's fear of some kind, well get out and do your thru hike already!
I finished watching your documentary among many that I have watched in the past, and I will not be able to watch another and enjoy it as much as I have this one. The beauty that was captured is the best I have seen. The emotions that are so hard to articulate were beautifully translated in your narration and video. Congrats!
I work in the film industry and I can attest that I've seen far worse from media professionals. Kudos! Keep making docs - you have an eye for shots and an ear for story!
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The journey, your partnership, the scenery, the learnings, the gifts that you’ll carry with you forever. Starting our thru-hike as a couple on March 13th and will take your encouragement and spirit with me. Thank you for capturing and sharing your experience so eloquently and thoughtfully. So very grateful. THANK YOU BOTH ❤️
Nica Louie I just read your comment and I realized that you start your hike the day after tomorrow. If you’re reading this: I wish you good luck and an awesome time!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us and not sugar coating or hiding the newbie mistakes. I sit here nursing my ruptured Achilles envious of my previous healthy self who didn’t do these things, like hiking, that I so want to do now. I hope to see you out there one day soon. In the meantime your videos are lovely. Gidday from down under.
Amazing, so interesting about the party aspekt. Im doing it next year and I don't drink alcohol or am not interested in that party stuff either. Something I think about to. Thank you for an amazing video! Best wishes from Sweden
This is one of the best PCT documentaries I’ve ever watched. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Real and incredibly beautiful! My heart fluttered with excitement the entire video. It re-inspired me, my feelings of wanderlust and excitement for adventure and travel. Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and journey on the PCT. What a beautiful documentary. Something your child will absolutely value when they get older as you and your wife age.
This was really well done - it reminds me of a radio production, like This American Life. Music was perfect and seeing familiar places I have visited, very enjoyable. Thank you.
I really enjoyed watching this whole thing. You narration especially. I've watched two others that were more "produced" but found yours to be really special and authentic. Thanks for making it and sharing. -Hersch
Such a powerful, moving and intimate story. Beautifully shot and created with such care and love . I am truly honoured to have been able to watch this. I’ve just come back from a bikepacking trip for only two weeks, yet can empathise with all you said so much. I have kids like you do now and I encourage you to keep on taking the time for yourself to go on journeys, I’m certainly a better dad for it.
I did not want this video to end. It was masterfully done. If you’re not in the documentary business you definitely should be. thank you for sharing your journey.
Wow still watching this and it's made me laugh and made me cry what a wonderful couple you both are, I feel like I have walked the pct with you but without the pain, thank you for bringing calm to me x
So excited to find this my son could only get permit from Tehachapi and started yesterday (27 May 22 ) he’s from U.K. planned this for years, so it wonderful for me to watch his journey, thank you x
I loved this. I drove from Vancouver to LA over 3 weeks, about 20yrs ago, and I regretted then that I hadn't taken a lot more time to do it. The scenery was incredible, the people were just amazing, and I knew I was missing out on so much more. Living in New Zealand, the stories coming out of the USA these day are usually so negative, and your journey reminded me that it's a beautiful country that is filled with caring, and generous people. Thank you so much for sharing this.
The part where you fixed the rocks from “PCP” to “PCT,” went on to explain a little about the drug culture on trail, then mentioned missing your church and your community…tears. Thank you for talking about this. Our church is also our family. I was walking this past week and wondering myself, even before I saw that part in your docu mentioned above, about through hiking and being away from our church that long. I realized with a decent amount of differing perspectives on faith and values on trial would be the hardest part for me, mentally, possibly. It has seemed to me with the through hiking documentaries that there is, like you have mentioned, a big party scene on trail. Thank you for being real and not legalistic on what you shared. It helps me remember that there are all kinds of people everywhere, and that no matter where I would ever go, I would always find other like minded believers and people who also share my same values. Life is beautiful. Hike on! -Hannah Yoder
Watching your video, the wonderful people and hospitality you encountered on your hike only shows/proof that America really is the greatest place on earth. I know it is for me. I really enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing.
This is amazing. Brought back ALLLL my PCT feels. I was behind you by about 2 weeks the whole way! It was wonderful to see a few familiar faces. Well done on such amazing commitment to filming, I understand completely how hard it is to tear yourself away from the experience to record, I didn't do it enough. Editing, music etc superb. Thank you for these beautiful trail memories! ❤️👏 Snakebite '15 🤗

By far the best homemade documentary I’ve ever seen. And also the best documentary about the PCT. I love this.
thank you so much. that means a lot!

Thanks again
thank you! Yea so much ties back to water. I mean we literally wouldn't exist without it. But there's a spiritual component as well.
Just hiked through Mt Baker wilderness and came across this film, while looking for other clips.

All the best for you and your family.
thank you for the kind words. I don't know German so I hope the lyrics in that song weren't inappropriate.
Bro!!!! Best PCT video on the Tube. And there’s a few other good ones too, but bro; this is the best.
Thank you so much for sharing this incredible journey and all the wonderful things and humans and all else along the way...
The last scene with your dad picking up the pack is very touching ❤ all the best to both of you
This is an amazing film. Thank you for sharing your story. Very inspirational
Amazing "video". I hesitate with that word because it was an extremely personal view into your lives. Nothing in Hollywood compares to this real diary of life. I thank you for sharing such a wonderful period in your lives and giving the rest of us just a little inspiration to hike our own hike...
thank you for the kind words!
This was wonderfully shot, edited and presented. I'm sure you've motivated and aspired future travelers ahead. Best wishes to y'all and thanks so much for sharing! 🙂
to the Holeshoes, Thank you for posting this video. Your video is a great mix of trail and mountain scenery, with thoughtful and insightful comments about all that goes with a Through-Hike. . I have lived near the PCT for 50 years, and share your appreciation of that trail.
thank you for the kind words!
Wonderful video. I stumbled on this courtesy of my lovely. Wish we were younger to do this ourselves. Thank you!
You so thoroughly captured the heart of the trail. This is one of the best PCT documentaries on UA-cam. Your documentary is a beautiful testimony to how a couple can persevere and tackle life together. You two are an example of how to a live a well lived life.
Just found this and watched the entire thing! Amazing and Inspirational! Love it! Great editing too! Thanks for taking us along!
Is anyone cutting onions here?
Thanks so much for this stunning vlog!
What amazing memories to have!
thank you so much for the kind words. It really is encouraging.
Hi there … greetings from Switzerland … thanks for your efforts .. a real real pleasure to watch.. enjoy ..
Thanks so much for sharing your PCT story. And, what a great production. 😊
FYI I’ve read all of John Muir’s work as a way of gaining a deeper understanding of the US national parks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The most beautiful and eloquent diary of walking the PCT I have seen. Vivid and full of life. Thank you.
THE best PCT documentary on UA-cam today. Beautifully filmed, narrated and edited. Thank you for sharing your story with all of us. 🥰
By far one the best PCT documentary. The honest commentary was heartfelt and inspiring to my soul. The graphics were an added plus to the story. Thank you for compiling months and miles of majestic scenery and the human spirit.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Damn, we (with my wife) watched this as a film in sunday evening. Best video about PCT so far! Greetings from Ukraine.
Thank you!
Great job putting this video together I could not imagine how long this took I could not stop watching again great job
Congrats!
Thank you for the kind words!
THANK YOU BOTH ❤️
thanks for the kind words! good luck on your hike!
Nica Louie I just read your comment and I realized that you start your hike the day after tomorrow. If you’re reading this: I wish you good luck and an awesome time!
Best doc I’ve watched so far. Awesome scenes, thanks for sharing.
Amazing! This made me have greater love for hiking, friendship, food, life, and humanity in general.
Gidday from down under.
thank you for the kind words. Hope you heal up well!
Amazing, so interesting about the party aspekt. Im doing it next year and I don't drink alcohol or am not interested in that party stuff either. Something I think about to. Thank you for an amazing video!
Best wishes from Sweden
Thanks for the kind words. good luck next year!
I am coming from Canada for a 2023 attempt as well and I am not a partied either. See you on trail Sweden!
@@she_walksthru I am also going for a 2023 attempt starting mid April. Safe journey next year. Hope to meet you along the trail.
@@cclev1967 see you on trail next year 👍
Thank You...that was a beautiful story
This is one of the best PCT documentaries I’ve ever watched. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Real and incredibly beautiful!
My heart fluttered with excitement the entire video. It re-inspired me, my feelings of wanderlust and excitement for adventure and travel. Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and journey on the PCT. What a beautiful documentary. Something your child will absolutely value when they get older as you and your wife age.
I had just started watching when I heard you say you prep-hiked at Lake Grapevine. That is where I just started hiking recently!
This is the best thru-hiking documentary I have ever seen. It just felt real. It brought back to me memories of my time on the AT. THANKS!
This video was the best of the best outstanding. I rate this footage the one I enjoyed the most of all that I have watched on UA-cam
This was really well done - it reminds me of a radio production, like This American Life. Music was perfect and seeing familiar places I have visited, very enjoyable. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed watching this whole thing. You narration especially. I've watched two others that were more "produced" but found yours to be really special and authentic. Thanks for making it and sharing. -Hersch
Best take on the PCT I've seen, hats off to you guys. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Thank you!
What a beautiful and inspiring story - thank you so much for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is the 2nd time I've watched this. Thank you for doing this for us.
Thank you guys for this amazing docu, greetings from the Netherlands.
Beautifully crafted artwork!! Thank you! I couldn’t have asked for a better documentary!!
I did not want this video to end. It was masterfully done. If you’re not in the documentary business you definitely should be. thank you for sharing your journey.
really good job on completing and filming. One of the better thru hike documentary out there
Wow still watching this and it's made me laugh and made me cry what a wonderful couple you both are, I feel like I have walked the pct with you but without the pain, thank you for bringing calm to me x
So excited to find this my son could only get permit from Tehachapi and started yesterday (27 May 22 ) he’s from U.K. planned this for years, so it wonderful for me to watch his journey, thank you x
Thank you! and wishing your son all the luck!
Thank you so much for sharing your journey on the PCT. A beautiful trail I’m glad to have shared vicariously. 🙌👏🥰
Congratulations …
What an amazing journey together as partners…
Stunning capture of the PCT…
So inspiring ❤🇨🇦🙏🏻🍂🐻🦅
Hike on!

I loved watching this! Thank you for sharing- congrats on your successful journey and your excellent documentary! Very inspiring!
Hey! that's awesome!! Glad you enjoyed it! That's crazy! Did we meet you anywhere on trail?
