Gilby has always come across as class-act. "Cure me or Kill me" is great song! He deserves a lot more credit than he gets.
Gilbys a cool dude, its a shame we never got a proper follow up to the Use Your Illusions with him on rhythm in GNR.
Gilby is the best! His interviews are always so well articulated. Just a genuine dude!
Gilby has gotta be pushing 60 at this point and he looks fantastic.
Gilby and a handful of us Grew Up Together back in Ohio! I used to hold hands with him when we were in our teens!! 😊
Anyway, he was an amazing guitar player then, and I’m so proud to have been a part of the very very early days (1970’s) when he was first feeling it 💕 blessed to still be friends 50+ years later ✌🏼
I love how he is the real deal. And that that era of music is still relevant and younger generations are discovering this music every day and saying to themselves, why doesn’t new music sound as good as this. What happened. My own son says, I wish I had grown up in the 80s so I could have seen some of these guys in their prime. But everything is retro so we can all enjoy this music for a long time to come. We start our tour of the northeast in March 22 and I can’t wait to get back to it. It’s been hell sitting home.
Brilliant, warm, articulate. A great journeyman musician. Excellent insight into the business, because he lived it, and succeeded.
Very well said Ms. Elizabeth...TRU!!
He seems such a lovely authentic decent guy with no bad vibes, and the same cannot be said of most of the men on this scene.
This is such a great channel!!! And this interview w/ Gilby proves it. A VERY down to earth, well spoken,n survivor of a tough ass business.
Dude- those were some great clubs- and great times. So many bands, so much fun... glad I was part of it...
What a real, honest and down to Earth guy!!
I had the pleasure of bumping into him almost 20 years ago, and he's the same back then as he is now, unlike other musicians that let things get to their heads!
Really enjoy your channel, and appreciate talent like Gilby Clarke who realized their dreams and remain cool dudes. I was in the mosh pit for the GnR Illusions Tour and got to see him live - a winner then, and a winner still today!
Great channel and content. Gilby is a down to earth humble and sagacious dude.
Happy to have found this video! - Gilby has always been a down-to-earth guy! - my band played at the Whisky and Gilby just happened to be there hanging out that night! We talked for a while and that led me to meet him every time he played LA/Orange County clubs!
Pawnshop Guitars is a great album that I've enjoyed start to finish, time and time again. Props to Gilby
This was an awesome interview.
Best musician interview I've seen in a long time.
Gilby's first solo album had some good shit - Cure Me Or Kill Me and Tijuana Jail rock! He produced the debut album from my friend's band (Windigo) in the late 90's
Never heard of them lol
Yes those were awesome songs. That was a good cd. I wore it out.
8:00 that "excuse me" so classy
Loved this one! I like how he’s diversified himself because that’s what you have to do to make a living in music (I do all of this on a smaller scale).
An intelligent guy, Gilby! I liked his nuanced attitude to being a working musician. Thank you, a great interview.
My respect towards Gilby Clarke stands incredibly high. Real down to earth "knowledgeable worldly experienced" musician/guitarist. Fantastic interview. Thank you for sharing it on your cool channel. Cheers.
Love his comments about the newer bands.
Great interview and always liked his addition to guns
Met him, fantastic guy....REAL.
Love Gilby - very underrated musician.
The first CD I bought was Pawnshop guitars on 1999, I listened to it for years until every song sounded catchy in my ears. Such a great album, Actually each Gilby album is like a rock n roll lesson, because he mixes different styles, not just 80s hard rock.
Gilby is a wonderful artist.
Luv this channel
Down to earth and very clever man..awesome channel
I really like this interview. He seems like such a genuine guy.
My band was playing the same night as Gilby’s band at the Coconut Teaszer in the 90s and he was really cool. There was one moment that has stayed with me forever. Gilby was doing his soundcheck and the soundman asked him to turn the guitar down and Gilby said “that’s the funny thing about this amp. It doesn’t turn down”. 🤣 Now that I know he ran sound before GnR, I respect his response even more.
Solid dude
His guitar tone with that red ESP Telecaster he played during the GNR tour on Wild Horses is fucking awesome!
True ! I was in high school and went to see Gilby with his solo band. It was my first concert and aproach to the GnR world live. year 2001 or 02. At that time I never though Axl, Slash and Duff would reunite. But they did. Never say never.
Cheers from Argentina!
I like Gilby very much 😍😍😍 His music and his beautiful eyes ❤❤❤
I wish Gilby was back on TV again with some type of Rock show.
❤❤Meee too! ❤❤
Very nice guy honest and he knows the music industry very well Very professional
His Kill For Thrills album is fantastic.
That's cool I had no idea he was into it like that, and he knows what he is good at,and does it well...
Gilby Clarke es un rockstar en Argentina! Y guns N Roses una de las bandas internacionales más populares. Saludos!
Really hit it on the head with the one original band member touring with the band's name, which someome 10 years ago asked me about what I thought about it with Foghat, who I saw as a kid in 79, Awesome show. I felt the negative side of the comment at that time and now I can completely understand the rational reason why an original member of a very successful band would do that. My eyes have been opened to a whole news perspective and I can appreciate that since I admitted I was around and old enough to see Foghat in 79...do the math. Thanks so much! Great interview.!
Great interview
i like Gilby, what a huge gig to land, and imagine all the songs he had to learn in a short period of time, izzy is one of my favorite riff guys, but cant imagine filling his boots, i think he was the silent bullet behind Guns!
Appropriate recognition of Hanoi Rocks!!! Besides their style and approach to songs, G N R even took “Welcome to the Jungle” directly from Hanoi’s Underwater World.
Hanoi Rocks was one of the best bands ever.
Welcome to the jungle/ welcome to the sea/welcome to the ocean/deep inside of me
Rocket Queen also always reminded me of Don’t You Ever Leave Me.
Love you Gilby... Such a great personality......long live Gilby
😊😊😊
When you see interviews with Gilby Clarke, Slash, Duff, Izzy, Matt Sorum, and Dizzy Reed, these guys are the NICEST guys in the world. Never a bad thing said about them. Funny, laid back, really nice guys. Axle on the other hand- he was a piece of work. Lol
Man, Gilby is awesome. All his solo albums are awesome.
Gillby is a real deal musician and great human being. I met him at NAMM 09 and he was really nice he will make you comfortable and understand that everyone is a fan of someone very gracious, looking back that was memorable.
I miss Izzy and Gilby in new GNR version.... I hope some collaboration with them in the future.... Gilby is a great musician and performer!
Cool intelligent dude! Thanks man! Hope you hit Jergels in Pittsburgh PA someday.
And bluesy rock won out in the end.... Tijuana Jail is a killer tune, slash did great on the solo...
Did it really though....all they’ve done since Chinese democracy is release 2 songs from the Chinese democracy sessions.
@@number6223 exactly my point.....
love how Gilby picked out faster Pussycat and LA Guns and Roses at last😁🤘
Great interview, Gilby was always a great guy, and much better solo than a hired musician in Guns.
I love his American he articulates words for a French like me. He seems to be intelligent lucid and have his feet on the ground.Great channel
He's speaking English not American. There's no such thing as an American language.
@@asensibleyoungman2978 an English has a more developed language than an American. An American knows 800 words enough to understand Macdonald Trump's speech!!lol
@@asensibleyoungman2978 you don't know English or French humor!! sad...
But I liké Macdonald trump hé is so funny keep America funny again
The replacement member doesn't like replacement members.... how ironic
Fabulous !!!
Gilby is one cool dude. Talented. Candid.
I'm going to join the crowd : down to earth and honest, like his music.
So a coool grounded and easy going humble guy, Gilby !
Pawnshop guitars is a great album. I love it from start to finish!
I was hoping he would speak about working with The Bronx. An odd match I'd love to hear more about :D
Love your interviews - where can I find the full versions?
Gilby always looked cool as shit up on stage with Guns.
His band opened for slash in Brasilia in 2015, I was lucky to be there.
I really like Gilby, im from Argentina, is one cool dude.. Gilbyyyy!!!!!!!!!!
One of the nicest guys in RnR
The man with a new Corvette
His solo albums are huge
Pownshop guitars is great album. I loved it. I discovered it for my self when Axl fired everyone from the band, so it's kinda gave me a fresh GnR songs. Anyway Gilby, thank you for playing, singing and being in right place and in a right time.
Metal Rules
A good man, solid player!
One of the nicest guys in the world.
Pawnshop Guitars has some great songs on it, like 4-5 legit great bluesy rock songs. I would have loved to have heard the GNR take on a few of those songs.
Gilby is great dude👌♠️
Full in bloom instructed James Bond on the Fine Art of shaken not stirred.
Agreed, I saw g-n-r 4 times n last time was with Buckethead, great concert I thought but not the same as the other 3 concert's, like something was missing?
I hear a lot of kids listening to old school rock n it I'm surprised sometimes but it's good music!
GC is so professional. yiiw!
💖GILBY LOVE FROM MADAME WONGS WEST💖 1) Royalty's Thanks for Music Advice.2) Live Shows where the Money is...
3) Gilby do you gave a good drummer? (Do you need a back up)
Shared Songs with Axel & Slash. Pawn Shop Guitars. Taylor Guitars.
Played w/ArrowSmith. Cool Career Gilby!!!!! So Extremely Happy for your Family!
I got Pawnshop when it first came out and thought it was a great record. Still is. Most of the other Gilby stuff is just really tough to locate. I’ll have to look on here to see if anyone posted samples. There are some Pawnshop songs that hold their own with most of what’s on UYI. Gilby could have been a real big contributor to a Guns record.
This series really should be clocking a lot more likes for 20k subscribers ? I mean it really kicks ass so ???
Tell your friends
Always liked Gilby , I think he was Underrated, got his first solo album and there’s some real bangers on it , one of my favourites of that album was BLACK great tune ⭐️⭐️⭐️🌞🌞⭐️⭐️
I know he wasn’t an original member but he is my favorite member of GNR 🥂 a true dude
Real cool guy.
Straight forward rocker..
What a cool guy
No cap, this is the first time I’ve ever heard him speak
There have been bands that had 3 touring groups with one member in them at the same time.At one time in the late1980's when a band called the Swinging Medalians had 4 bands out at the same time...one member in each band (some not original mambers) and one with a original members SON in it. All playing around the south east at the same time. My band played in 4 different cities in a 5 week period that one of those bands were playing too. The day will come when bands will be touring with NO original members in them.
there are some already...
The man of the new Corvette
I really like Pawn Shop Guitars album. Would love to have heard Axl sing on Cure Me or Kill Me.
A good song is a good song. Someone please tell Axl.
I never got too much into Gilby solo stuff but I just listened to those 3 songs he mentioned....any one of them (or all 3!!) could have been included on Illusions.....seems like maybe Axl and Slash didn't want to split the $$$ ......seems like they used his inspiration without having to pay him... :-/
Seems like a pretty down to earth guy...
You do realise that gilby joined the band after the illusion albums were released right?
@@yourfriendlyneighbourhoods8202 Yeah...my bad. I thought about that after I posted my comment. I still think those songs would have been good for GnR, though. \m/
Yeah his solo stuff rocks
Gilby is a cool dude!!!
Such a cool cat! 😎🕺
He and Matt Sorum should be in the current GnR line up
I love Gilby Clark. But I'm hardly surprised they passed on his songs. They're horrendous
This guy is a genius!
saludos desde Colombia
I’m happy Alice Cooper stills playing!
Like this guy, seems real!
when artists turn to more "experimental" material I turn to other artists
That just shows you’re close minded and don’t like trying new things
@@yourfriendlyneighbourhoods8202 clearly you have not seen my music collection, my point is that I don't need Metallica playing Pop music just as I don't need Miley Cirus playing metal
