Steven Adler always looked so happy. I think if there was an alternate universe where Steven didn't touch hard drugs, I reckon he would have lived the happiest life in existence. Look at him. I met him about 12 years ago, he was playing a small club in Houston. I was at the bar and turned to my right and he was standing there. He smiled at me when he saw my expression like yea, it's me. Lol. Really cool guy. He let me get a picture with him.
Wasn't it Slash who introduced heroin to him? Yeah, I feel sorry for him. He never stood a chance. He wasn't in any way, shape or form equipped to handle anything like that. I understand why they had to fire him because if you're the drummer in the biggest band in the world, you need to have your shit together. But they too were at fault, though I think Axl was the one who most tried to help, but he had to give up. Once they fired him, they began to lose their way. Still a great band of course, just not the same without him and then Izzy and so on.

I've been thinking about this too Nick, I think the problem isn't that real musicians are a thing of the past, it's more to do with how music is delivered to the listener, I suspect we both grew up in an age when we had various different formats we could receive the music via, I started on cassette and vinyl, then CD, I liked the physical side of it too, the art work the little extras, the limited editions, all the jazz ya know. It's changed now, streaming and digital recording has changed how we perform release and consume music and personally, I don't like it. However, real musicians are still making fantastic music but one of the ironies of this explosion of access to music nowadays is that you might just miss the real good stuff under an avalanche of dross, given time it will sort itself out and if you look and vinyl and cassette revival sales then the good stuff will find it's way to everyone in a format they appreciate and the real musicians whoever they may be will keep on keeping on 👍😃✌️
Yup I completely agree. I was just watching Coachella on UA-cam and it was so depressing. It’s the so called best music out there at one festival and I hardly liked any of it. BUT! Rock n roll will never die!! It’ll make a comeback don’t worry.

They still reached that "biggest band in the world" level.. Not many bands can say that.. Also, things got really different by 1992.. By 92, it was all about Nirvana and Pearl Jam.. But they could have still been really solid had they continued releasing albums as solid as afd or the use your illusion albums..
back in the 80's all metal was under the umbrella label of heavy metal. You had heavy metal as a whole, then under it you had sublabels or genre's. Like Thrash, Speed, NWOBHM, Hard rock etc. But back then it was all metal.

Pantera, Mettalica, Slayer, etc. were definitely different than Crue, Def Leppard, and GNR. I was huge fans of both, genres but they were totally different styles.

It had the hair, it had the power chords and it had the guitar solos; to me that's all you needed. The simple fact is if you go back to the magazines of that era, all the glam era bands; Poison, Motley Cruë, Guns 'n' Roses etc, will all be described quite often as heavy metal, but from the 90's on that started to change and the terms glam metal or glam become more popular in their use. A change in terminology was all but if someone wants to write a history of metal and decides to leave out everything from Deep Purple to Def Leppard then they are seriously mis-informing their readers. Classic Metal and the glam scene mightn't have been everybody's cup of metal so to speak but their place in history can certainly never be taken away from them. For real the video for One is iconic, and has a very strong message. It's not just something to look at while listening to some hair metal. Now I like all of those bands, but I guess One is just a harder song to stomach overall instead of Sweet Child of Mine, even though it's a great song, one of GnRs biggest hits. I remember the '89 awards and this moment well. I watched it live at age 13, and I taped it onto VHS. I was obsessed with these bands and I would re-watch the awards show frequently. No streaming required, just a PLAY button on the VCR

For real the video for One is iconic, and has a very strong message. It's not just something to look at while listening to some hair metal. Now I like all of those bands, but I guess One is just a harder song to stomach overall instead of Sweet Child of Mine, even though it's a great song, one of GnRs biggest hits. I felt like they stole the win on this one. But props to them for the shoutout. I wonder what Kanye would have said LOL!
