I first played Bioshock when I was 8 and was blown away. I'm 22 now and replayed it for the first time last year - on survivor. It was such a fresh experience and I ended up binging it; platinuming both 1 and 2 within a month. They're the only games I've bothered to platinum out of hundreds and had me feeling like a kid again 😅

Honestly that and red dead redemption 2 (for me) are tied for first place in that category
The problem with RDR2 is being open(ish) world, but the game railroading you through the campaign, to a degree where the capability of the open world presented feels squandered (and due to how slow things are to move in RDR2, literally and metaphorically, it's a SLOG for a replay since you know where everything is going (including yourself)
The bioshock series doesn't have this problem because things move quick, even though they follow a VERY tight track it doesn't feel like a slog since you don't need to ride a horse for 800 miles, but still would be "better" on a first time playthrough (again)

Infinite was originally supposed to have BS2-like hacking, you got a compass-like device that you used to shoot a rope at vending machines to hack them. The plot itself has also changed, in 2011 Comstock wasn't supposed to be Booker and antagonist, he was just a good politician and Elizabeth was supposed to be your love interest.

Personally, I didn't really like Burial at Sea at all because it felt a lot like Ken Levine was trying to tie Bioshock 1 and Infinite together to assert the fact that they were his babies and also to reaffirm the Bioshock part of the title in Infinite.
Honestly, Infinite didn't feel too much like a Bioshock to me. The parts that were reminiscent of Bioshock (Vigors, Songbird, Siren boys, mutant enemies) felt really tacked in and underdeveloped imo

another fun thing about the plasmids (atleast in bioshock 1, so far havent played the other titles), is that even the somewhat boring ones, or ones that seem useless, do have their own uses
for the security one you mentioned for example, usually you dont really use it on the enemies, as luring them to a security camera just to have bots slowly gun them down doesnt really do much
however, there are two ways i found that let me use this plasmid creatively, 1 being waiting for big daddies to walk under a camera, then hitting them with this, due to it not being a damaging plasmid, they wont target you, and you can let the bots take care of the big daddies, basically letting you kill them for free (which only works on ones that have a security camera on their path however, which is surprisingly few, making it quite rewarding when you see it)
and another one that i think is less known, when you are caught by cameras, and the alarms are going off, instead of fending for yourself as endless bots go after you, you can actually hit any random splicer/enemy and the security alert would prioritize them instead, making you basically immune to the alarm system, negating the need for a security shutdown post, and even letting you cheese big daddies after triggering any alarm from hacking/cameras, turning what would be a negative to a huge positive (and allowing you to target the big daddies without the restriction of having them be on the path of a security camera)
there are probably more ways to have fun with different plasmids, i just wanted to share this one, because although the premise of the plasmid is boring, it can still be very fun to play, from my experience anyway
(and no, it didn't make the big daddies just a joke, or boring to fight, if anything, being able to farm them in certain sections gave me the ability to have enough resources to actually engage in a thrilling fair fight with them later on, when the ability to cheese them wouldn't be readily available, since i wouldn't be low on resources, and need to abuse the respawn and coming back repeatedly just to make small dents in their hp until i could take them down)
(the edited parts are in parenthesis)

One of the things I love about the BioShock infinite is that each game is so good that there's no real community consensus on which is the 'best game' and which is the 'worst game' like in a lot of other franchises. If I were to rank my favorite games in order, it would probably look like the inverse of yours, and that's why I think the series is so well done.

Something interesting with the twist in Bioshock 1. I've always thought it was weird how the protagonists in Bioshock just inject/drink the first plasmid they come across with no question. Bioshock is easily my number one series of all time. All three titles are incredible and they all have strengths and weaknesses that set them apart from one another. You summarized everything quite well in this video, so instead of rehashing topics that have already been covered, I'll get right to my rankings. Number three is Bioshock 2, it's an incredible game that doesn't deserve the hate that it gets and it both improves and worsens things that the first game did well and things it did poorly. Number two is going to be Infinite. As an entire package, with the base game and Burial at Sea included, I felt it was a stronger outing than B2 was. Elizabeth is one of, if not the, greatest video game NPCs of all time hands down. The plot twist was great, and despite only having two weapons at a time, the combat was incredible to me. Burial at Sea brought everything together and tied the games together in such a great way in my opinion and I'll never forget the image of Elizabeth dying alongside Sally while the conversation about the "Ace in the hole" fades into the background. That means that number one is... well, number one! Bioshock will always be near and dear to me. That game was one of the first games I played that actually gave me a gripping narrative to sink my teeth into. It was the first game I played where I actually got brought in and payed attention to what was actually going on narratively. There are very few games where the narrative story pulls me in and makes me fall in love with the story to the point where I invest tons of time listening to retrospectives, like this one, alongside many other video essays about the game. The Bioshock series is a masterclass through and through for game design. Whether that be gameplay, narrative, plot twists, enemy design, weapon design and weapon upgrade design. There's just so much to love, that the things that I could do without in the games become an afterthought and don't hamper my enjoyment of the game one bit.

You know, when you really think about there are actually a lot of plot-holes in both Infinite and Burial At Sea. Here's an example.
So in the timeline where the Vox Pupuly got there weapons, the Comstock from that timeline moved the Elizabeth from that timeline from Monument Island to Comstock House. This resulted in the Booker from that timeline being unable to rescue that Elizabeth and so he joined the Vox in order to reach, but died in battle. However when the Booker and Elizabeth we follow enter the timeline where the Vox Pupuly got there weapons nobody acknowliges the fact that there are 2 Elizabeths. Keep in mind that the Elizabeth that is native to the timeline where the Vox Pupuly got there weapons is still locked up in Comstock House and yet Comstock treats the Elizabeth we follow as his Elizabeth when that doesn't make any sence.
And you know what would have been really cool? Having Songbird being the penultimate boss and having a fully brainwashed and juiced-up Elizabeth being the final boss.

So the plot holes in Infinite or the less nuanced portrayal of politics don't bother me bc I never found that to be the point really. It's about Booker and Elizabeth.
And Rapture may be more memorable to some but I prefer the look of Colombia; it's just gorgeous even a decade later.

Today I finish bioshock trilogy and oh boy what a journey it was, I love every game for different reasons
    My ranking it would be
    3. Bioshock Infinite : It is almost like a spin off, the strategy is present but in a different way, maybe because the levels are a lot more open, the story is beautiful and the character of Elizabeth is amazing [she only wanted to go to Paris ]
    2. Bioshock: an horror game with a lot of brain, it has his problems like hacking or that some weapons becomes useless at the end of the game, or how shooting feel... weird.
Still one of the Best games of all time
    1. Bioshock 2: If Bioshock 1 is the brain the 2 is the heart, I now 1 it is the one the introduce all the mechanics but 2 perfected, is just a perfect sequel, better gameplay, better hacking, better weapons, charge plasmids, world building
Many people talk about how the lack of plotwist is a bad thing but I don't think so, it's okay not having a plotwist in every entry we are not in M Night Shyamalan movie. But if You want that you have the Minerva's Den one, which is pretty good

Man, I still vividly remember Bioshock Infinite's gameplay reveal trailer. From the belltower suspended by hot air balloons falling and Booker levitating a shotgun and firing it to Booker taking a swig of the murder of crows and my favorite part "CHARLES, ATTEND!"
I genuinely don't believe I've ever been more excited for a game. Unfortunately, it's one of my most disappointing games because it moves away from the biggest strength being the world and the characters being a commentary on different ideas, and while I believe Ken Levine was ahead of the curve on using multiverse theory in mainstream entertainment, I think the game sacrifices the best parts of itself to really hammer on a convoluted concept. I love Infinite yet am disappointed greatly by it at the same time.

Bioshock 2 has the least amount of flaws and took the least amount of risk and while that sounds bad results in becoming my favourite entry in the series.
Honestly if Infinite only allowed you to have the full weapon wheel and trimmed out the unnecessary amount of guns in the game I would have ranked that to be the best but in it's current state it felt like the devs were heavily influenced by the 2 weapon limit that was present in most shooters at the time which is a shame.
EDIT: I also forgot to mention how limiting the accessory system was in Infinite as well. We went from Bioshock 1 where it limits your tonics to specific archetypes to Bioshock 2 giving you absolute freedom to put on whatever you like, to a game where not only are some accessories limited to specific parts of your outfit, you can only equip 4 unlike the 18 slots you previously could mix and match to alter your playstyle to whatever build you can dream of.

    • @GameCat16

I actually preferred Infinite's and Bioshock's customization to Bioshock 2's, for the exact reason you listed. The "absolute freedom" made it boring, whereas the restrictions in 1 and Infinite made me actually have to think and take chances. Bioshock 2 made me feel like I could equip everything, and I should never feel like that.

However, it was my favorite after finishing it and I didn't understand the criticism. Just because the story doesn't have a great twist doesn't make it less impactful. Burial at sea is on the bottom of my list. Creates so many plot holes. But I hate how the art style isn't even art deco. They got all the architecture wrong from the first 2 games. It's way too scifi instead of a believable kind of city.
The only issue with bioshock 2 is that the characters are boring compared to the first game. I like the design of the little sisters from the first game better too. Some players would see the little sisters as poor sickly children. And some players would see them as little goblins. That's why they brought them back in bioshock burial at sea.
The most replayable in my opinion is bioshock 1. There are so many little details in the story that can be missed on a first play through

sure the games have their flaws and may be a bit dated but tbh, they aren't as bad as the flaws most modern day games suffer from.
ironically no matter how much nostalgia may affect an outlook on the bioshock series as a whole. we saw how much better 1 & 2 were compared to infinite. i genuinely remember playing infinite for the first time right after having gone through 1 & 2, and having a confusing time with it. i couldnt figure out if i hated it because of how wack it felt story wise, or if i thought it was alright cause of the graphics and gameplay at the time. and replaying it as of recently, has evoked the same feelings.

  • @cflame14
    @cflame14 Рік тому +1

I think it's crazy how many plot holes Bioshock Infinite has.
Like I see some that NOBODY ever talks about when I look up lists of plot holes.
    Let's call Booker's original university A
Let's call the main Comstocks universe B.
After they go get the gun smith and discover he is dead they enter a new universes, Universe C.
Leaving Universe B to go to Universe C means their entire point of finding the gunsmith AND OR the weapons would be completely pointless unless they returned to Universe B.
But they didn't. They continued in Universe C throughout the rest of the game so the Comstock he kills in the end isn't even the ORIGINAL Comstock he went to kill from Universe B.
Why did the lighthouse have a note saying "bring us the girl"? And who was the person that was killed in the lighthouse?
If Booker went to Universe B fro UA then there would be absolutely no reason for that note to be there. He already brought the girl before so who would he be trying the bring the girl to?
The whole ghost thing with Lady Comstock and Elizabeth's powers being partially being based on "wish fulfillment" was just not a good ideal. It became more mystical than scientific. Because I believe for a second that Lady Comstock can fly and raise the dead in an alternate universe. At that point it wasn't a our going from Universe to universe. It was basically magic. Also Elizabeth's powers are poorly explained. They range from transporting herself of objects to other universes, to time travel (at random times), and basically magic as I said before. And the way she got her power was odd. Why would she become so powerful for simply having her finger cut off by a tear?? It seems she's more powerful than the twins after the siphon is broken.
Also the were from Universe A and B so why would they have graves in Universe C? Also are those the only twins or are there's sets of other twins out there helping other Bookers?
It's so infuriating that NOBODY talks about that stuff

not often that i find someone who shares a similar ranking for the bioshocks. for me, infinite IS a brilliant game, BUT to me, it's a bad bioshock. it abandons some of the unique aspects of gameplay from the previous games for "modern standards". it also abandons one of the key aspects of of the series to go the literally opposite direction, the fact that choice matters. that coupled with burial at sea felt like their integration into the rest of the series felt forced. also, in certain areas, it felt like they purposefully went against BS2.
