I think the second game is the most immersive with the most interesting and flushed out characters and settings in terms of each place and person feeling more or less hand crafted. I think UYA was their idea of streamlining what worked in 2 and condensing gameplay down to cut off unneeded meat and to shill in a multiplayer mode that serviced the campaign. Deadlocked has my favorite combat and gameplay system with the most ridiculous interactions between all the characters. Toss up between Commando, Deadlocked, and oddly enough, Nexus Also, with what you were saying with the tower defence thing for Full Frontal Assault being a decent enough idea, it's made me hungry for a more metroidvania style Ratchet, with a similar structure to something like Metroid Prime.
I was so obsessed with Deadlocked that I maxxed out every possible thing you can in the game. Max weapon levels, max nanotech, max obtainable mods (couldn't even use that many), skill points, 5 stars, all the cards, max money after all that. I didn't just complete it, I truly *completed* it.
Always nice to see Gladiator getting some love. My own personal favourite. Beat the hardest difficulty for the first time during covid and my god it was fun as hell. ...Especially after modding all of my weapons to give a chance of nanotech spawning when enemies...to offset the insane damage inflation. B-b-b-but thats beside the point. Got my ninja suit and now i'm happy.
Gladiator was my first game, I completed the story dozens of times but I never got the ninja suit. Probably my favourite game of all time too, guess I'll to play it again soon and get it this time
for sure Gladiator is great, I've been speedrunning it for a year now and I can say that only 1 part of the game sucks to play and it's the part before the Ace fight where you spend 2 whole minutes just dodging, like can't even speed up the time, it's not hard, just boring Other than that, an amazing play every time
I'd love to see a version of Deadlocked that could get updated every couple of months with new levels and challenges. It's such a great game to hop in, do a few missions then hop out.
I am that person who loves Size Matters. It's hard to say whether due to nostalgia or not (I was like 8 or 9 when I started playing it. My parents thought my brother would like the PSP, but I turned out to be the long-term gamer). I haven't played another Ratchet and Clank until some years ago, on PS4. I always got the feeling that Size Matters had soo much character. The planets and levels were so unique with amazing concepts. And I love feeling like I am working towards something when firing newer guns. Also! Nowadays, video games are so easy man. I loved the fact that it was harder to achieve something, it really made me use different strategies to win. But yeah, it's probably just nostalgia when you really think about it.
I actually think that what has kept Ratchet and Clank around is the zany adventures they get up to, and the gameplay didn't just rely on the platfroming itself, the gunplay got way more refined and to keep things really fresh each release had a new cast of weapons that players couldn't wait to mess around with.
I'm honestly surprised we agreed about Deadlocked. It's exactly where I would have placed it, too. I will say that I like parts of Size matters in concept more than execution.
I'm in this video! I mean, barely... but at 27:50 I'm behind the red base shooting the left turret from behind a holoshield. That's so cool :) Great video btw, this franchise is 20+ years old so it's nice to still see people that want to talk about it!
I absolutely *LOVE* watching these videos! As a life long diehard fan it's always fascinating to see and hear how other fans compare and contrast their favorites and order them. Whether it's Arcaedon Luminos, FromJoshy, The Golden Bolt or RemyRaccoon, I seriously can't get enough. I couldn't care less what the order is, I just love hearing the explanations and sharing the love for this series that means so much to so many of us.
I actually liked the armour in size matters, I liked trying out the different set bonuses, with Stalker Armour being completely broken in how strong it is (I mean you do have to beat challenge mode once to actually have the pieces appear in the world, but still), it offers 96% protection from damage and gives you a melee attack that gives an absolutely broken amount of damage over time in both poison and fire, it can down the late game enemies with only one or two wrench strikes.
You know, I'm glad that, despite all the changes across the years, You're still the same creator at heart I've come to love. And I'm beyond giddy seeing you talk about Ratchet again!
The PS5 controller's different vibrating sounds for different weapons reminded me of how the PS2 Ratchet and Clank games have a unique equip sounds for most weapons. It's something small but that being a really cool detail on Rift Apart after so long is pretty amazing!
I LOVE that Deadlocked is #1. It's the most fun. In PvE or pvp I always love to constantly fight. Deadlocked has that and the humor etc. Definitely earned a like
Great list!! I think my list would be pretty similar!! I LOVE that you put Deadlocked/Gladiator where you did, recently I’ve been thinking about these games that I grew up with, and I find that Deadlocked’s gameplay is so addictive and tight that it might be my number 1 too!!!
My favorite is going commando. It has The best of everything. Funny dialogs, good selection of weapons, space battles and a cozy looking ship with a nice galaxy with good reception for galactic TV.
My favourite is without a doubt the original, I’m well aware of its early day flaws, the lack of a good strafe option, the edgy tense dialogues between the duo after Umbris (although I actually like how it develops the characters as both a pair as well as individuals) and the combat being slightly tedious at times. However it combines combat and exploration so well, both used in such good balance, the backtracking in levels like Orxon and Quartu is genius, especially Orxon. While slow, the very few clank sections are fine. And I can’t forget the soundtrack, not only are there plenty of absolute bops, but I think that every single soundtrack in the game achieves what they are supposed to, and that’s to set the tone of the level or the specific location or situation they are in, not a single song fails that goal.
And one more thing, the level design, having every level (but Boss levels) have multiple paths without any real direction is amazing, rewards going out exploring, but doesn’t tell you what is necessary or optional. I love Oltanis for it’s brutal restriction of playing as solely ratchet, as you’ve been conditioned to using things like long and high jumps, as well as better movement, it’s now not even possible to jump from the landing pad to the centre of the level, and the level itself fully embraces that restriction, as well as having FOUR distinct paths! (Morph-o-ray, shop infobot, Quark PDA, and the swingshot gold bolt path)
I think the main reason why Ratchet and Clank stood the test of time was mainly due to the franchise starting off it's series embracing the old with the new, during the transitional peroid between the early to mid 2000's. It's combination of early 2000's collectathon platformer with the mid 2000's FPS games allowed the series to stay fresh while adapting to modern trends. This in tandem with Insomniacs passion of the franchise kept it from falling into that same muck that other franchises had fell into at the time. I'm really happy that I grew up with these games all the same and I especially have to thank you, Remy, for reminding me of all the good memories I've had with these games. With that being said, I have to give special thanks to Ratchet Deadlocked for introducing me to the series.
It’s interesting seeing someone who started with ratchet and clank being friends in later entries being not a fan of ratchet’s attitude towards clank in the first game when for us who started there was like “ why is being a hero this dudes problem, he just wants to leave his planet and get some cool toys”
I liked size matters as a kid because of fond memories of playing it on long road trips and stuff. I haven't played it in 12 years so I can't tell if it aged well(probably didn't).
Dude!!!! Deadlocked is amazing!!! Me and my older cousin who passed away last year played the coop story easily 5+ times in deadlocked, truly so much replay ability and a phenomenal game!! Ratchet and clank has been my favorite game series my entire life! Rift apart was my sole reason for buying a PS5, and now I consider rift apart my favorite game of all time for how much it meant to me. Thank you for making this video! New sub here❤️
Hey, if you're scrolling through this comment section thinking to yourself "how do I get into this series, it looks pretty cool", just play the games in order (it's up to you to skip the spin-offs + size matters). None of the games are COMPLETELY unplayable (besides maybe size matters), pretty much ALL the games have something that hasn't aged perfectly, which I mean, you should come to expect from literally any video game ever made lmao. I grew up playing Up Your Arsenal on my dad's PS2, so I miiiiight be a BIT biased, but who isn't, amirite!? Anyway, this series is near and dear to my heart and I'm so glad it didn't meet the same fate that Jak and Sly did. R&C is one of the most consistent "good at worst, excellent at best" series out there, hell, even to a point to where I can ACTUALLY recommend both Going Mobile AND Before the Nexus.
ERAWW The Last Of Us when. Okay but seriously, I loved seeing a new Ratchet video. Funny, insightful, and we have similar taste in games so yay! You’ve still got it, Remy!
I absolutely adore size matters, I remember when I first got my psp all I played was size matters and secret agent clank, I had like 12+ new game+ playthroughs, as for why I like it so much I honestly can't explain why, it just makes my little brain go "hehe".
I remember getting stuck on the first level of deadlocked as a kid, not because I was bad (I was) but because the disc was so scratched that I literally couldn't proceed. Didn't stop me from trying. Such nostalgic game for me.
All-time favourite is the first one of the series, that experience for a 6 year old me at the time will always hold a special place in my heart, followed by Ratchet and Clank 3 Thanks for the video!
I played this game with by best friend like 10 times at least, and the experience is absolutely fantastic. Not only you get to enjoy the game itself but you make your own commentary, jokes, and discussion about strategy.
The first and deadlocked are my 2 favourites... 2 is also very good. Haven't played Rift apart, but considering this glowing review I'm actually looking forward to it.
i've only ever really played the first 4 games and it's great to see them score so high in the list but this video also convinced me to get a rift apart considering there's a sale happening for it at the moment (man that playstation exclusive comment really didn't age well) thank you for pulling me over the edge and an all round good video :Ð
I gotta come clean, I saw your furry avatar and thought "oh boy, some Zoomer who's gonna rank the toothless new gen R&C games first... Consider me pleasantly surprised. And props for having the bolts (see what I did there?) to put Gladiator at #1 spot. On a personal note I think R&C 3 deserves the number one spot for its sheer scope and classic story telling, but Gladiator will always be my favourite.
Seeing the RYNO 8 referred to as the Big Disappointment made my day. Great video, Remy. The Ratchet and Clank games really are awesome, and while Deadlocked isn't my number one favorite, it's still one of my favorites, and I think you made a good call putting it at the top.
I remember playing Tools of Destruction and being absolutely flabbergasted that a single NORMAL Cragmite didn't die from a FULL clip of Buzz Blades. And in return it kills me in two hits. How fun. At least there's dinogrinding, a really fun XP glitch that just lets you max all your weapons as soon as Sargasso becomes available
My first R&C game was A Crack in Time. Ever since then, I've been a huge fan of the series! My personal favorites are Crack in time (obviously), tools of destruction, Rift apart and... Yes. Even Into the Nexus. I'll try the OG trilogy after I beat Rift Apart.
This is like an anniversary thing for you on UA-cam! I absolutely loved your ratchet and clank game reviews I haven't watched all of it yet but I will tomorrow!!!

Great list, I would agree with most of it. Also, you didn't even mention the best feature in Gladiator, it's co-op! I had countless hours of fun playing that game with my cousin, we beat it so many times together, and every time it was just a fun as the last. Can't believe they never did this concept again.
Honestly I feel you on the scared part. I couldn’t do any stealing or murder missions in other games because I was terrified of hearing the reactions of getting caught breaking law.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who felt that way about games with weapons/shooting 😂 I would freak out when playing them growing up and just couldn’t do it, it was literally just a few years ago I finally got over it and now they’re also my favorite and I’ve been catching up on all the many many MANY games of the genre I’ve been missing out on for the last 25 years 😂
i used to love quest for booty when i was younger but when i got older i realised the game only has 1 and a half hours of play time. I play it on the hardest difficulty to make it a bit more challenging and fun. Edit: in my opinion i think quest for booty is for more casual players, even though the boss is a bit difficult at the end.
I’d like to agree but I think if it were made for casual players then they wouldn’t have made it to tie ToD and ACiT together. I think it was partly Sony wanting Insomniac to do a digital release, and Insomniac maybe wanting to get a little experimental since they could probably get away with that in a smaller release, but who knows
I finally got to play deadlock with somebody 2 years ago it was with brother who had just turned old enough to not suck at video games anymore. I waited 15 years to play deadlock with him. it was wroth the wait.
I only had a ps3 for a short time as a child, my family had to sell it for expenses, but Crack in time is something I remember so unbelievably fondly and have such undying nostalgia for. Being able to play rift apart on pc is a blessing for me, despite the small gripes I had with the marvel esque "erm he's right behind me" writing. Thanks for giving me a cool look at the rest of the games I never got to check out. I think you get +20% to ratchet and clank skill and knowledge because you are a furry. Love from New York ❤️

Probably my favourite game of all time too, guess I'll to play it again soon and get it this time
for sure Gladiator is great, I've been speedrunning it for a year now and I can say that only 1 part of the game sucks to play and it's the part before the Ace fight where you spend 2 whole minutes just dodging, like can't even speed up the time, it's not hard, just boring
Other than that, an amazing play every time
did the same last week. the only challenge im not sure is beatable without the nanotech mod is the one at the end where youre losing hp constantly
@@negativekelvin6434 I think they frequently give hp crates in that challenge to offset the draining
@@koheikyouji ye but u get like 7hp from them on the initial playthrough
I know the release date of ratchet and clank all 4 one. Oct 19 2011. (Two thousand eleven).
I'd love to see a version of Deadlocked that could get updated every couple of months with new levels and challenges. It's such a great game to hop in, do a few missions then hop out.
We have deadlocked online available with new maps, game modes, and challenges.
Tell ya boy reflex sent ya
Oh yeah and UYA has new shit too but fuck em dl for life
No better way to celebrate the franchise 20 year history than by looking at this vid 😁👌
FOGAAAA!!!
NATHANIAL FOGA!
FATHANIEL NOGA!!
That's so cool :)
Great video btw, this franchise is 20+ years old so it's nice to still see people that want to talk about it!
I couldn't care less what the order is, I just love hearing the explanations and sharing the love for this series that means so much to so many of us.
where tf is Xem on that list?
My man!
My fish !
Definitely earned a like
A Ratchet and Clank video from Vale4XD? It's been 84 years!
i love your description of the infector from UYA, its perfect. was never really a fan of that weapon either.
I also noticed that Ratchet looked like he was smiling a lot in the first game’s cutscenes when I was collecting screenshots
Crack in time might not be the best one in the series but no one can argue it has one of the coolest intro cutscenes in video gaming
You didn't even mention that Deadlocked had freaking 100% Coop mode, like dude! Playing this with my little brother WAS SOOOOO MUCH FUN!
Ratchet and Clank 1 has one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard, and is probably one of the reasons I got heavily into music
Deadlocked nails the combat. It absolutely deserves the number 1 spot.
Well I *WAS* gonna watch a movie but this is better
Ok but what movie. Very important
And ratchet and clank q- force was released in 2012. And they all celebrated ratchet and clank's 10th anniversary in 2012! (Two thousand twelve)
Remy I do not care if this came out months after the series 20th anniversary, this was lots of fun to watch!!! 👏🏾
It’s interesting seeing someone who started with ratchet and clank being friends in later entries being not a fan of ratchet’s attitude towards clank in the first game when for us who started there was like “ why is being a hero this dudes problem, he just wants to leave his planet and get some cool toys”
Return of the Monarch. We stan.
actually I’m a raccoon not a butterfly but thank you!!
The ability to play co-op in Deadlock's campaign is what truly elevated the game for me.
I liked size matters as a kid because of fond memories of playing it on long road trips and stuff. I haven't played it in 12 years so I can't tell if it aged well(probably didn't).
The PS2 version was crap. The PSP version was at least excusable
Me too. Size Matters was the first game I played from Ratchet that made me love the series. Im replaying it at the moment.
I remember getting stuck on the first level of deadlocked as a kid, not because I was bad (I was) but because the disc was so scratched that I literally couldn't proceed. Didn't stop me from trying.
Such nostalgic game for me.
All-time favourite is the first one of the series, that experience for a 6 year old me at the time will always hold a special place in my heart, followed by Ratchet and Clank 3
Thanks for the video!
Finding the little secret room to buy golden weapons for the first time, blew my mind in the OG RAC
my scrunkly space platformer is better than YOUR scrunkly space platformer!
:V
what the HECK >:O
I played this game with by best friend like 10 times at least, and the experience is absolutely fantastic. Not only you get to enjoy the game itself but you make your own commentary, jokes, and discussion about strategy.
damn furry
You can do better than that.

Going Commando was my first R&C game and will always be my favorite
The first and deadlocked are my 2 favourites... 2 is also very good. Haven't played Rift apart, but considering this glowing review I'm actually looking forward to it.
very well surprised to see Deadlocked/Gladiator at first place, such an underrated masterpiece
i've only ever really played the first 4 games and it's great to see them score so high in the list but this video also convinced me to get a rift apart considering there's a sale happening for it at the moment (man that playstation exclusive comment really didn't age well) thank you for pulling me over the edge and an all round good video :Ð
It's really funny to watch this video having just watched your first video about RAC - you've come a long way man 👍
I gotta come clean, I saw your furry avatar and thought "oh boy, some Zoomer who's gonna rank the toothless new gen R&C games first...
My childhood consisted of me running around the Starship Phoenix, customising my ship and raging at Metropolis. Baby me hated that planet.
Also snowman skin. It was the best skin
Size matters was my fordt and favorite. It's so nostalgic to me being my first game I truly fell in love with right after dead rising 2
That size mater is most ugliest ratchet game ever😊
Damn, Ratchet and Clank from Remy? Has been a solid minute since i last heard thar combination
Also, GLADIATOR IS FUCKING AMAZING! FUCK YESSS!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahh yes, a video of the funny rat with a gun. I can pog for the first time in years.
Great video! Ratchet Gladiator was my very first game in the series and I've loved it ever since
I'll never not get tired of the naming of some of these games
My first R&C game was A Crack in Time. Ever since then, I've been a huge fan of the series! My personal favorites are Crack in time (obviously), tools of destruction, Rift apart and... Yes. Even Into the Nexus. I'll try the OG trilogy after I beat Rift Apart.
Something about the ship segment in a crack in time made me enjoy it so much as well as the small moons
Pretty hot takes you have there, but I respect them . Anyways, good to see you back man!
The thing is i started playing rift apart for the first time on pc with an xbox 1 controller so i cant do the half trigger thing
This is like an anniversary thing for you on UA-cam! I absolutely loved your ratchet and clank game reviews I haven't watched all of it yet but I will tomorrow!!!
A star walks into a black hole but doesn't seen phased. The black hole then turns to the star and says, "I don't think you understand the gravity of this situation."
My first ratchet and clank game was Size matters and I fell in love with it, but some of your points are right.
I spent the whole video waiting for deadlocked so happy I'm not the only one who loves it. It was my introduction to ratchet and clank but no one seems to know it exist
Great list, I would agree with most of it. Also, you didn't even mention the best feature in Gladiator, it's co-op! I had countless hours of fun playing that game with my cousin, we beat it so many times together, and every time it was just a fun as the last. Can't believe they never did this concept again.
There was nothing better than getting out of elementary school for the day and going home to play some Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper.
Honestly I feel you on the scared part. I couldn’t do any stealing or murder missions in other games because I was terrified of hearing the reactions of getting caught breaking law.
Oh man! Seeing a Ratchet and Clank video and from you of all channels is great! I was literally just talking about your channel with someone recently.
i really loved ridin around in my spaceship cranking pirate radio in crack in time
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who felt that way about games with weapons/shooting 😂 I would freak out when playing them growing up and just couldn’t do it, it was literally just a few years ago I finally got over it and now they’re also my favorite and I’ve been catching up on all the many many MANY games of the genre I’ve been missing out on for the last 25 years 😂
i used to love quest for booty when i was younger but when i got older i realised the game only has 1 and a half hours of play time.
I think it was partly Sony wanting Insomniac to do a digital release, and Insomniac maybe wanting to get a little experimental since they could probably get away with that in a smaller release, but who knows
deadlocked finally getting some of the clout it deserves out loud! Love to see it!!
I finally got to play deadlock with somebody 2 years ago it was with brother who had just turned old enough to not suck at video games anymore. I waited 15 years to play deadlock with him. it was wroth the wait.
YESSSSSS. He back at it again.
If there's one completely unrelated thing I have learned from this video, It's that Remy likes PMD Explorers of Sky.
33:18 "the thief has less health than a shedinja" that knocked me out
Havent seen your channel since back in the cinemasins days.
But man im so happy i watched this cause holy crap is this an improvement this is really really great
Yeah you're right Remy, i finished the last level of ratchet and clank into the nexus and the credits came already, so yeah it was kinda short.
One thing that you overlooked on deadlocked is the awesome coop campaign. I played through that game with my brother probably more than 5 times
Certainly a bold choice putting Gladiator as #1 but I can respect that. Came across this video randomly, I'd love to see more videos from your channel in the future
Look who's back again! The Racc!
While I may be disagree with some of the placements in the rank, It's always nice to turn on another chit-chat about what makes Ratchet & Clank such a great video game series. That's a good content right here!
This is a nice Ranked list... eyyyy Juanitta?! ahaha
I remember bonding with my older brother playing deadlock Split-screen . Those were the best times
Cheeto gun gang here it has no right to feel as good as it does
Ratchet deadlocked, like dmc 3, mgs 3 and even shadow of the colossus. Where all games i found on pawn shop runs where i went to see what random games they have. And i fell in love with all of these games. Nothing is more magical than buying a random interesting looking game and finding a gem
36:14 Small error, the area you visit on Aridia in Ratchet And Clank 2002 (and Ratchet And Clank 2016) was Outpost X11, while Outpost X12 was the area you visit on Aridia in Up Your Arsenal.
Ah dang it, good catch. I always get the two mixed up somehow lmao
Going Commando was my favorite game on the PS2. Never got to finish it though, as I got the infinte loading bug. Still replayed it countless times until it happened again.
Very enjoyable watch! Its always fun to see others' opinions on the franchise-
