I'm another guy with a 1987 F-250 and Really Really Really needed this info from you so after I subscribed and liked I saved your video so when I tackle the problem I can use your video to help me out. Thanks for this great self-help video~!!
Yup, thank you. Got in my 94 F350 7.3 idi just yesterday started it up right away drove down to the parts house no problems. Got back home. Needed to go get a tool at the parts house went back into my 94 thinking you know how much fuel do I have in my rear tank. So flipped the switch to check the fuel gauge pegged past full and never came back down. Then went to start the truck it would run then die. Run then die. Just like it was out of fuel. Flipped the switch back to the front tank and the gauge stayed the same Full pegged. Walked down to the gas station to grab some diesel in my 5 gallon Jerry Can throw the diesel into the front tank. Still no run at all. Walked back to the station to grab another supply of diesel and put that in the rear tank. Fuel gauge stayed the same pegged at FULL and no start. Everything was fine up until I changed the fuel tanks from the front to the rear tank. So thank you for this video as it made sense to me that it could be my issue on big old blue like Steve had issues with. Selector valve stuck in the middle with you.
Glad I found your video! I decided to take mine apart also after watching your video and found that the contacts were dirty. My valve wouldn't move before. Cleaned all the contacts with contact cleaner and put dielectric grease back on. Works great now thanks! 6/32 x 3/4 screws fit the holes.
@BrickyBoi that’s ok. Depending on the year it is the EXACT same part. The only difference will be the shape and number of pins for the electrical connector. My powerstroke is what I cleaned it on. It worked, but it leaked a little after I opened it. Go figure, 25 years of diesel and heat cycles might wear out some rubber seals lol. Anyway, it’s the same concept. Clean it off and when it’s clean if it leaks just order the 60 dollar one off eBay or amazon
Yup I pulled mine down and the same exact situation stuck in the middle of the two tanks. Can't blow any line past the other line. I did first check fuse's, then checked the tank selector switch with batteries connected tested still working as a switch. Then pulled the tank selector valve assembly got it on the bench now going to tear into just like you did see if we can get it going again. Could save $450.00 from Ford parts. Wow it is expensive part. You did a super job detailing this video cause you guess it someone else has the exact same problem. That would be me. 1994 F=350 7.3 IDI Turbo 4x4 long bed 6 pack cab. Allmost 300K on original international navistar but dang the 4OED transmissions are just no good on this beast. Going in for a fourth rebuild cause currently it is a manual automatic you have to start it in first gear then go up the column from there and no over drive no tach either now.
Appreciate the heads up on this. I've got a 6.9 that is completely gutless on any kind of incline. Already replaced all the injector caps and return lines, next thing was to replace the selector valve. Think we might pull'r apart first and see what it looks like. When that doesn't work, electric fuel pump time!
Great Video... I am working on a '95 7.3L Powerstroke and either the fittings or the selector valve is leaking a bit... having a heck of a time finding the part number or name of the 6 fittings that attach to that selector valve - any ideas? Thanks
Yea I’ve searched front to back I don’t think it has one. But I replaced both fuel pumps and checked all lines between the tanks for stoppage today so tomorrow I’ll see if it’s fixed if not I guess I’ll have to keep checking
I got a 91 Ford f350 7.5 dual tanks and I just noticed earlier today that there was smell of gas outside. I can smell it around my truck as soon I start it to move it, I noticed the gas was pouring of the front tank with the cap on and I drive with the switch on rear tank. So what could be the problem. My front tank couldn't be full because I don't use it at all. I only use the rear tank and only use the front tank for emergency.
Those selector valves switch both the feed line from the tank and the return line back to the tank. Sounds like it's not switching correct and is pulling from rear tank but returning back into front tank.
@@machineryd2765 so it's the select valve? Where is it actually located and is it easy to put on a new one. Right now the switch is on the front tank to use all that gas up so I can go down and as soon I open the gas door and remove cap, I can see gas right at the top.
Yeah I got a truck where that is canceled out its some janky straight line. Would you or anyone say that, that selector valve works almost like a pump??
The problem is these valves get plugged with crud from the old fuel tank. It will probably clog again before long. I’ve heard of guys putting filters between the tanks and the valve to protect it.
Yeah - I did the same to my tank selector valve and still had poor fuel delivery and my front tank was full of rusty diesel and chunks of the pick up devise that had disintegrated.
It's been so long since I posted the video I don't remember what I said or what exactly you're talking about but just hope making your comment made you feel better about yourself.
Maybe your just jealous that someone has a vehicle to name and if not that then your just one negative miserable person that can’t stand to see or hear of anyone else having anything or enjoying life sorry ppl who have a sense of humor offend you snow flake

Did replacing the FSV solve this issue? Having the exact same issue
Had same thing happen to me, gonna order new valve...
By far the best video on this issue I’ve found! My 97 isn’t switching tanks so I’m gonna try this. Thanks a lot!
Sorry for the late reply I appreciate your support

Awesome sometimes all it takes is a little work and someone can save themselves alot of money. Glad it was fixable. Thanks for watching.
Great video man. Surprised this hasn’t really been done on UA-cam before considering what a problem this is on the old Ford trucks. Appreciate it man.
Appreciate you watching.. sad how many of these have probably been replaced when its a fairly easy fix. Thanks for your support 👍
@@Merciful2u it can leak. Mine leaked so I just ordered the Chinese one off amazon. So far so good

great video! Same issue with my 1990 IDI and was driving me crazy. Would only run on the back tank then die when I switched to the front tank.
Awsome..I'm having the same problem.....thanks

Thanks . got a 6.9 1986 I'm inspired to fix it myself .
That's awesome I like the old bullnose. And with a 6.9 cavitation is Alot less of a issue. Glad I could help.
Fixed it ,thanks for the inspiration
@@davidharvey2090 that's great glad I could help. 👍 Appreciate the update and the support
This works!! Thanks dude you saved me money
I like where you mounted your electric fuel pump
That's a great video. Don't see how you got it out without pulling the front tank. It's tight.
Excellent video, thanks for sharing
I beat mine with a hammer while someone else played with the switch and it finally started working again

I can not find the fuel selector valve on my 1995 F350 7.5 is it built into the fuel pump?
It should be on frame rail just infront of the front tank
Then again I have minimal experience with 7.5 trucks so may be wrong
Yea I’ve searched front to back I don’t think it has one. But I replaced both fuel pumps and checked all lines between the tanks for stoppage today so tomorrow I’ll see if it’s fixed if not I guess I’ll have to keep checking
I have a F350 6.9L Diesel and my tankselector is leaking exactly at rivet, can I find spare parts to repair it.

When you switch can you feel it? Does the key need to be turned?
Yes key needs to be on. Hear more than feel but may be able to slightly feel if you hold while someone else switches it. Thanks for watching 👍

Yeah, having the same problem but I ordered the part I think might work. I Will found out tomorrow.
How did it work ?
Worked great tanks switched perfectly up until I sold it.
So fuel does not go into the part you took part the fuel only goes through the part where the nozzles stick off
No the area with the motor stays dry fuel only travels through the valves themself
I got a Chevy crew cab 3500 2 wheel drive I got put a new new tank I can't find a sending unit
It's
A 1984
I order it from Canada
Yup thanks big help
eBay less than 65
I have 1889 i have played hell finding one
That part is $500. FN dollars at parts store. No telling what Ford wants
