When I buy my first real camera, a Lumix G9 I was a total beginner to cameras, but still happy for my choise, especially for my first lense choise, Lumix 12-35 2.8 (thanks to youtube reviews) 😅 It still feels like the lense that handles AF best of them all, but yeah 9mm and 1.7 is very attractive specs! Thanks for the review 🙌💕
I'm very happily surprised too, on my S5, with the new 18 1.8... trusty and quick autofocus, yes ! would be curious, if you offer us a comparative test ? - anyway, thanks Caleb, so generous always !
Its really noticeable that AF is jumping a lot from background to foreground. I think I would still use it in manual mode. Currently I own Laowa 7.5mm f2.0 and it is a bit too wide to me on GH5s. When I connect it to GH5m2 and switch to Pixel/Pixel mode, this tiny crop makes angel perfect (I guess with this extra crop it becomes more like 9mm instead of 7.5mm).
I have both lenses. I used the 9mm a lot this summer wenn traveling cities in Europe. The 7.5mm is nice to have for the extreme situations but it is so wide, that it is difficult to use. The 9mm is much more usable as a wide option to the 12-60mm that I usually use during the day. If 12mm isn't wide enough, I can take the 9 or the 7.5 and don't need a zoom. Both lenses are very small and light, so it's not a problem to have them in the bag all the time.
Bought it when it came out. Love it! I went on a trip as soon as I got it, in French Polynesia, and boy, was I happy to have this little gem! For astrophotography it is also amazing.
I preordered this lens in July and just got it last week. I haven't yet tried it for taking video on my GH6 but I have tried it for photography with my GH6 and I quite like it, except for that it is softer in the corners, even stopped down which I found a little noticeable in some of my landscape photos. Used it to get photos of trees and in forests with my GH5 where my other lens, Olympus 12-40 was not wide enough. It worked well for that except for chromatic aberrations but I noticed it was better on the GH6 for photography with the extra resolution. I want to try it for astrophotography as soon as I can but where I live it's either rained at night or when it was dry, it's been partly cloudy or clear but very windy.
Man, thanks for the review. I was long waiting for such a lens, as I‘m actually doing my Vlogs with my GoPro, because none of my lenses is wide enough. But, a big bummer for me again is AF. In the last shots where you speak to the cam it‘s hunting like crazy (look at the branches behind you) 😬
Been wanting to get this just havent got the extra cash, the sigma 16mm isnt a great lens for vlogging kinda close, the 14mm 2.5 is decent but autofocus is bad on it. This would be good with vlogging and mainly for shooting drum covers.
Nice one Caleb… I’ve following your channel for a while now.. one of the reasons I’ve bought the GH5 was because of your videos.. so I’m looking for to upgrade my lens as I’m only using the 25mm 1.7 with my GH5. I mainly work shooting food for restaurants. So I do a lot of closeups. Do you have any recommendations on what lens should I invest next for my gh5? Thanks a lot in advance!!! Enjoy your day!!
The 9mm is something we’ve (MFT community) been waiting for - sure there is the 8-18 and the 12mm but they are more expensive and heavy and the 12mm is more photo centric as the AF is slower for video - this 9mm is a no brainer especially at that price

why did'nt u set the steady image stabilizer on the selfie shots? very shaky!
Unbelievable! That whole fifth minute scene where he's talking on the bridge is unwatchable.
He must have used same kind of stablisation since there is a jelly effect in the background...

On an iPhone which many people digest content you don’t notice the pulsing

I have an old LUMIX GH4. will it work with GH4?

that astro stuff sounds great! i bet that lens will work real good for that.
I see jelly effect in the background. Did you use digital image stabilisation?
The Lumix 8-18mm is a beauty. You won't be disaapointed.
Damn nice! 👌🏻
Got a recommendation for a nice macro? 😁 💚
Thanks for the continuously great content, Caleb!
As for this lens, is it weather-sealed or simply weather-resistant?
I have it and like the Olympus 75mm, it's niche, but awesome!

Also it seems there was no stabilization? The video jumps

did you ever try the Sigma 16 1.4 ?
@@fbon Thanks for the reply. No, I've never tried this one. Do you recommend?
@@foxmediacreation absolutely ! really a gap...

Does this lens support the linear focus mode of the GH6?
Yes it does.
@@Ulrich.Bierwisch thank you 😊
You have a gh6 but why your video is soo shaking in the corners? 😢
This lens is very stable while walking but when you held it standing still it’s not as good and would be best on a tri pod
swear the whole video hes saying how good the auto focus is and half the video is out of focus 😂
Pass
