    What really impressed me was the stability of the handheld footage with the GH6. It looked like it was shot with a gimbal. I'm going to assume that you have good handheld technique!

    • @PavSZ

      it surprised me too, it's the camera strap around the neck and stretched out tight in front of me technique + GH6's IBIS - you can literally achieve gimbal like shots hand held

    Lovely review with beautiful sets of photographs and video samples. 👌 I bought this lens as soon it came out. Lovely and it replaced in major part the old zuiko 9-18 (clutch system broke 😢) and the 7-14. This tiny lens is uao. It does great photos with my Om5 .

    I've been using the(very excellent) 10-25mm/1.7 for a while, and recently decided to sell it once I realized that I was only shooting at one end(10mm) or the other(25mm), and almost never anything in between. Found some good deals on this 9mm/1.7 and the 25mm/1.4 and put the zoom up for sale. Not only do I expect to come out ahead on money and save some space and weight in my bag, but hopefully the 10-25 will go to someone who will really need/use the full range.
    Edit: I agree on the value of this lens 100%. I've spent some time with the Laowa 7.5mm in the past, and if you need the extra width, it's a great lens. I think for most people, this 9mm is a MUCH better value. Auto focus and weather sealing make it a winner in my mind.

      I'd prefer 2 primes than a zoom. They render images differently as well

    • @BrentODell
      @BrentODell 11 місяців тому +1

      @@PavSZ having shot a few comparisons before I sent the zoom to a new home, I think it's as sharp, or sharper, than the primes, but it does also have a different character. I don't think it's better or worse, just interesting that I could tell which lens shot each picture. All that said, I'm happy with the change, and love having a much smaller and lighter kit now.

      @BrentODell 3 місяці тому

      @@psysword You mean the Laowa or the Pana/Leica? I mean, it applies to both. The Laowa is smaller in diameter but slight longer, and also a little heavier(although they're both tiny and light).
      Edit: just verified that even the 'ultralight' Laowa is 20g heavier than the P/L 9mm. So I think it's really about the angle of view you need and maybe the price, which is about $100 different.

      For video, have the 25mm f1.4 with a G9. It is a special lens. My thinking is to buy the 9mm and use the ex Tele converter (1.4x) to get ~13mm when needed. That way I avoid the need for the 15mm unless I need the resolution. I also have an EF-S 17-55mm F2.8 which I can adapt or use with a Viltrox speedbooster (.71x) if I need to cover other lengths.

    Thanks for the video. The Laowa 7.5mm f/2 has a lot of metal components but weighs 150 or 170 grams, depending on whether you get the auto-aperture lens or not, so it's not much heavier despite using metal. I'm guessing using metal in the chassis would have added to the price but they wanted to price it competitively with the Laowa UWA lenses, assuming good plastic is cheaper than good metal.

    Hi, I currently have a pen-f that I love and 2 objectives sigma 30mm 1,4 and the 45mm 1,8 olympus. As a budget I have 1300/1700 Euros and I am looking for one or 2 "definitive" objectives for the meantime (later you will see) that are capable of doing different types of photography ranging from weddings such as portraits even in low light, football matches mainly during the day and occasional landscapes.I am looking for objectives that are unique as compactness, performance and versatility compared to all systems photographic apsc, full, frame etc ...
    ...if I stay in the micro 4/3 I'm interested and I don't see real alternatives to the Om system / olympus 8-25mm, 12-100mm, 20mm 1,4 and last probably also Om lenses 40-150mm f4 or sigma 56mm 1,4.
    I am confused because if the 20mm 1,4 can replace my sigma 30mm in all ways, even as a bokeh, I would take it with my eyes closed. 12-100mm and these would also be useful for taking medium and long distance portraits of the spouses.If I really have to keep my pen-f with a single lens I would think of the 20mm or 15mm leica or the announced 9mm leica 1.7 ... or also have a second no micro 4/3 body with other lenses also used? Thanks.

    Interestingly as a long time both GH1,2,3,4,5 and S (5) Series shooter i am getting pressure to deliver 4k / 50 for real estate.
    The slow motion option is super handy in the edit.
    Which none of the S series do (they crop to apsc or you have to shoot 1080)
    My preference would strongly be to use the S5 because the image (and important dynamic range) is so VERY VERY nice.
    Unfortunately 9mm (18mm FF equiv) just isnt wide enough to create that feeling of large space.
    So i t looks like the Laowa 7.5 would have to be the go on GH series.
    But as always i would much prefer to use an affordable fast native prime - so please Panasonic or Leica can you make a 7mm?
    Otherwise i love everything that Panasonic gives us.

      @@PavSZ 90% of projects i do my own editing and agree with you - 1080 is fine. This client hands the footage off for editing and they love the ability to make shots floaty (by conforming 50p to 25) and to be able to do dynamic digital zooms. I totally get it - as an editor with GH5 footage and APSC shots off my S5 i do the same.
      4k is rapidly becoming the new standard for footage delivery here in Australia because Clients want to future proof their footage.
