Ethan Hawke is of my favorite actors of all time and in my opinion one of the most underrated ones working today. The Before Trilogy, Training Day, Tape, Waking Life, Daybreakers, Predestination, Boyhood, Sinister. All outstanding films
Doesn't everyone buy Blu-ray's these days, I have 200 plus Blu-ray's but only 20 odd DVD of films I couldn't get on HI-DEF, half of those picks are out on BR and I'd bet you E Hawke has a kick ass home theatre 🤔

For now he’s still being compared with him, but he will once be spoken in the Same way as Kubrick is now, recognizing his genius in his own right (Not saying he will per se be better then Kubrick, but he will have made as big an impact on cinema)
At least this last decade PTA is the new Kubrick in an author approach, but still Kubrick is The Master ;) PTA has lots of years to come of great films. My favorite is The Master, he achieved maturity and legend status with that film.
@@folksurvival Huh? "Tootsie" was about women in the workplace and how a difficult actor learns the trials and tribulations of the fairer sex by dressing up as one in order to get a job. "Mrs. Doubtfire" was a Robin Williams comedy. Not the same caliber.

I have Tootsie I'm pleased to say. I'm from the UK & it was the greatest news ever when it was confirmed that Criterion were gonna start to distribute over here. My appreciation of Ethan Hawke (already high) jumped about ten-fold when he took Breaker Morant. A fantastic film and part of the juggernaut of great Australian films from the early 80’s.
OH...MY...GOD...there's a DOOR in the closet...literally, it's like watching a program and seeing the fourth wall...although, it's slightly disappointing...I always imagined the Criterion Closet to have a more "classier" door, something in a sturdy wood with a glass center...but, now, I'll always know...the Criterion Closet is built inside an old stairwell...
I always wonder if Ethan ever thinks about making The Explorers. I know it's not well known(or even very good) but it had a huge impact on me as a kid.
There is a video store in my home town, and it happens to be my favorite store of any kind in town. It has a fairly substantial Criterion section. So, cinephiles in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, are truly blessed. Spin-It ♥
Is there one for sure or are you just hoping for one? Either way, I agree. Also, there's one with Liv Ullmann and I think Max Von Sydow that they haven't released.
Breaker morant, just like wake in fright and picnic at hanging rock are such haunting movies, I watched all of them some time ago and I still got them fresh as I had seen them yesterday. Think aussie movies are the most underrated in the world
First of all, definitely two guys who I would want to hang out with any time. Second, Hawke has had a remarkable career filled with good choices of scripts and great performances. As much as I hate Lifetime Achievement kind of awards he is a worthy candidate already . I have to say that his performance in The Great Lord Bird was both great and entertaining. Such a fun watch especially after having watched First Reformed a few months before.

Best movie and performance of the year so far imo
I love both of these guys’ enthusiasm. They seem really down to earth and passionate about film. I love it!
God, I love Ethan Hawke
I think that's the case with most actors who mainly act in independent films
greg part of that is simply, he's never lived in hollywood.

Ethan Hawke just compared Kubrick to PTA 🙌
Also Berlin Alexanderplatz is a masterpiece
A worthy comparison
PT Anderson and Ethan Hawke can you imagine
I want that to happen so bad
Dude! That would be the best
Greatest first and only film: The Night of the Hunter ;)
Yeah, Night of the Hunter is the correct answer to that question.
Agree on greatest only film. Not entirely on the first film part. Pather Panchali is I think the best film debut.
the night of the hunter is indeed the right answer but I also like Carnival Of Souls and Saul bass' Phase IV
Wanda (1970)

I'm glad Ethan mentioned Tootsie, while it was a mega success back in the 80's I think it's underrated today.
