one of the best episodes i've seen. This video gives me so much respect for Ethan, seems like such a genuine good guy.
I would also recommend his Closet Picks video on Criterion's youtube page if you're into films. Really enjoyable, and more evidence that he knows his stuff.

They dont get paid for these either, they do them because; they already live in LA., they LOVE music, and they want to promote their colleagues in the performing arts community, besides, NONE of the celebrities they've had on need any more money,fame, or ...ahem...female companionship... they're fat, happy ,and looking to contribute to anything they really believe in ,now that they have 1000+yrs worth of blue collar wages stored up in Citibank, or Chase, and more free time than is healthy to squander...I would bet a weeks pay that Hawk thanked THEM for the slot, when he left the store.
Never seen the guy in a BAD movie, he's very underrated. My favorite though was TRAINING DAY.

HJ Mcpaid there’s a funny moment in some interview he did a while back, (can’t remember which) where the interviewer asks him “when you lived in Hollywood....” and Ethan Hawks politely interrupts “Sorry, I’ve never lived in Hollywood. I live in New York and I’ve done movies in LA but I’ve never lived in Hollywood.”

Ethan is a bad ass and genuinely nice guy. I met him in the 90s when he every teen girl's heartthrob. I had guessed he was pompous and a pretty boy. Nope. This guy is the real deal, true blue man.
That's the impression I got from him in this interview .

Didn't expect this authenticity from a 1st row Hollywood star, I suppose prejudices are just like that. You gotta have a great human sensibility to talk that way about Lightnin' Hopkins and van Zandt, they are indeed immense artists. Great wimb here
I could hear him talk at length about anything. Such a thoughtful and thorough individual.
He knows what he likes and knows the history. How does someone get there? Curiosity in not just about music, but life in general. There is genius and authenticity in every genre of music, all you gotta do is know when you hear it. It takes time to cultivate it.
Ethan is really impressive with his musical knowledge. He has great taste in music. I had no idea he was into old school blues and country.

I have always been an Ethan Hawke fan, but as a musician with an immense respect and value for music history and the bigger story behind the songwriters, Ethan's knowledge, understanding, passion, and tastes impress and entertain me beyond end.

I think he and John Prine are in the same boat. Other musicians love them, and cover their songs, but somehow they never got the general acclaim from the public at large that they deserved.

Every time I watch a video with Ethan Hawke, I admire him more and more. A genuinely passionate, intelligent, thoughtful guy.

I love this dude. Most of my friends and family reject country music, but there can be so much depth,, rebellion and emotion in the genre.

Had to come back to this video to write that I watched Heartworn Highways after I watched this, and it did something to me. Really opened me up to an area of music that I didnt know a whole lot about. I really reccomend it to pretty much anyone. Thank you Ethan and Amoeba for helping me find it!

Which is another great thing about the country. The NFL never said these guys couldn't protest on their own time, they said they couldn't protest on the NFLs time.

More of a blues lover than country myself but I checked out Blaze Foley after Ethan's biopic came out and I trust this man's taste in anything. I do appreciate old school country storytelling and it seems like he appreciates the difference between sincere honest country music and rubbish "yee haw, pick up trucks and whisky" songs that pass for country these days.
