The doobie Brothers or the best band out there and knows how to bring a concert out and get everybody on their feet and start dancing. I love it when they come to Cincinnati because I try to get front row seats to see him. I can play drums just as good as those guys can, but they can play a lot better than I can, but I know how to play that song and all the other songs I have.
Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons were made to play together just like Lennon and McCartney were...this band has been my favorite since 1971...love me some Doobie Brothers!!!
Arguably America's rock and roll band! For over 50 years the Doobies have established a unique niche in the R&R canon, playing everything from straight rock to borderline heavy metal to country rock to ballads and R&B. Few bands can claim this label. They deserve their place in the Rock Hall of Fame and to this day they still sound as great as ever.
Tom Johnston, with that guitar action though! Like he was MADE to do it!! I notice and like how Tom gets into it as he's playing, I'm watching him feel the music as he goes along. And equally impressive, is how he's quite comfortable standing at the front center stage, close to the audience, perfectly at home.
@@lemurianseahorse Not when Tom took off. Mikey McMuffin had ONE good song (Take me in your arms), everything else he did was to soften them up, buff the edges. McDonald has progressed very well as a singer and musician, but when he joined the Doobs, he burned them down. So fuck you.
I just now noticed those people up front dancing, having a good time. And then I glanced at the guys playing guitars up front to see if they were seeing this, they're probably glad that everybody enjoys their concerts.
This song, Without You has always been one of my favorites from this band and never understood why it was never a radio hit. This is a great song. Why wasn't it ever played on the radio? Go Figure.
The Doobies most "metal" song. How is it that this band isn't in the HOF when some of the nonentities are. Still they're in most real rock fans HOF and that's what really counts.
My all time favorite album "The Captain and Me".Without You tops their achievement. Their best.Johnston is the clear backbone of this band. Love you Tommy. Much health to you and hope to see you guys "rocking down the highway " very soon!
I saw them 8 times and still that is not enough. Imagine Lynryd Sknyrd and them in one concert!! Turned my 40 year old son on to them. He adopted them as his favorite.
Totally agree. Especially the studio version off of CAM. The song explodes. Great double drumming. Great power chords. Great solo. Its a classic Tom Johnston song and solo.
Very underrated band and awesome guitarist , all 3 different styles but rock....I think this was one of those nights when everyone was at or above their best. Just something happens at some shows its awsome
I remember back in the early 70's the Doobie Brothers along with James Taylor, I believe, and the Outlaws were coming to SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center). I bought three tickets over the phone and had no idea where we were going to be seated when we got there. The day of the concert when we arrived we were escorted down to the orchestra pit. Where we were seated in the third row, probably twenty-five feet from the stage. What an awesome experience that was. I remember that they did three encores that night-as did the Outlaws. I have never been to another concert like it.
If im not mistaking ? Wasn't Tom Johnson the leader and original founder in San Jose California? Johnson was a garage musician in his teens and started jamming with a few others in the bay area of The Rice A Roni treat town San Francisco. 😆😆back when i was a on air radio head or jock? Everytime i would play a Doobie tune ? I would intro it and say ? Smoke em if you've got em. Lol..great tunes and cool memories with the Doobies. ✌ smoke em if you got em.
Read this in Wikipedia about how the bands name came about: "According to Tom Johnston, Rosen said, "Why don't you call yourself the Doobie Brothers because you're always smoking pot?" Hartman has said he wasn't involved with choosing the name, and didn't know that "doobie" meant a marijuana joint until Rosen told him. Everyone in the band agreed that "Doobie Brothers" was a "dumb" or "stupid" name. Simmons has said the band intended to use the name only for a few early performances until they came up with something better, but they never did." Now, if it wasn't for Keith Rosen we might be calling them "Pud" or "Scratch" which, imho are a LOT worse!! LOL
I think I saw this at Fiddlers Green? in Denver that year. They were actually opening for Skynard....or vice versa? Most amazing night sitting on the grass. I don't even remember Skynard to tell the truth.
I cannot believe I've never seen them live I think it's time the 50th anniversary so it's coming to West Palm I had the 45 with black water and listen to the music in 1974 one of my first bands that I loved I'm 56 time to seem to doobies live and smoke a few too
Sadly.....Mr. McDonald was not the sound of the Doobie Brothers. If Tommy hadn't gotten so sick, we would probably have never seen MM on stage as a Doobie. He could sing, but he never "did it" for me.
That's Jeff Baxter on Tom's left. John McFee joined the group in 1979 when Jeff Baxter left the group Baxter was the one who brought Michael mcdonald in the band when Tom Johnston got sick with bleeding ulcers and pancreatitis, and he nearly died during that time.
The great Doobie Brothers!! Come on Rock and Roll Hall of Fame committee! Wake up! Why are they not in? Grand Funk, BTO, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner The Raspberries/Eric Carmen just to name a few! Rap doesn't belong!! Nina Simone and Sister Rosetta Tharpe? Are you kidding me?
what a showstopper this performance was! All parts working together for a whole that is sublime! The drummer and lead guitar in particular and the vocals really were smokin'! I'd never heard this Doobie Brothers song before! Outstanding!
Jesus Just Alright keeps them relevant. PTL! Proves potheads are also Christians and can rock their love of Christ. Good entertainment good price. Especially love Jesus Just Alright video.
+Robby Blum Your dad has good taste in music. This band has lots of great songs. Listen to the Stampede album and others, not just the greatest hits albums. You'll be hooked.

Tom Johnston is just pure rock n roll.
With the 1975 "porn star" hair do and 'stache!
I just now noticed the standing ovation at the end, the people were eager to show their support.
My favorite Doobie Brothers song of all time. I still crank it in my car 45 years later. The Captain & Me.....What a GREAT album!
Same.
Yep. Same here 👍
This song never got the recognition it deserved.
My favorite album of all time by my favorite band of all time as well!
Totally agree! My favorite album also.
2:35 Jimi Hendrix, Third Stone from the Sun.
⚡️🌞⚡️
I could see this video over and over.
One of the best American bands bar none! You don't have to scream your ass off to the rock and the Doobs have proven that for over 40 years.
The song came out when I was 13 and I’m 62 this year, and looking at them rock still holy crap this is a rock band oh to have been a teen in the 70s !
:D
Oh and that tribute to Jimi Hendrix at 2:36 … respect!!
Caught that and liked the way he fit it in too!
Third rock from the sun😂
ROCK ~N~ ROLL HALL OF FAME!!! WAKE UP!!!
Tom Johnston, with that guitar action though!

I notice Tom's rings he's wearing, as he grips the mic, is one of them his old high school ring?
Unlike many other rock bands, the doobies live never disappoints!
Not till Michael Macdonald f___um up.
Michael brought a different dimension to the band. An expanded audience! They knew it was a smart move! They still did their rock and roll!

Still have all their original vinyl, as released new every year Since 1971. My all-time favorite rock band. Even have both of Tommy's solo albums.
These are my boys.
this is the REAL Doobie Brothers!
Today, I like and appreciate this group more than ever.

The best of the Doobie Brothers the guitar work and Tommy is the 💣
Love the sound of the two drummers
2024, I’m listening to these cats for 51 Years I’m 55. Johnston and Simmons doesn’t get much better.
This is the definition of Rock and Roll (or hard rock). Arguably the greatest rock band and most rockin song in history.
YEAH We need more of this type of Rock and Roll nowadays Slamming Guitars and great Harmony. Doobies Rock Glenn Augustyn
This song, Without You has always been one of my favorites from this band and never understood why it was never a radio hit. This is a great song. Why wasn't it ever played on the radio? Go Figure.
For radio, at the time it was too long. Cutting it down, continuity wise would have destroyed the flow of it.
@@victorjohnston1529 I agree.. but IMO, one of the Doobie Brothers best songs ever.
Possibly too heavy for AM radio??
@@jerryattwooll4864 Too long.

Somebody please, please, please, put up Dark Eyed Cajun Woman from this show. It is without a doubt the best version they have ever done.
Written by the borthers: John Hartman, Michael Hossack, Johnston, Tiran Porter, Simmons...............a real brothers song.............
IMHO one of the greatest under-appreciated rock songs of all time.
It was a great tune as part of their performance Tuesday night in Grand Rapids, MI. I was glad the tickets fell into my lap so we could be there.
I got it on 8 track unplugged by the Double bros.
Totally agree. Especially the studio version off of CAM. The song explodes. Great double drumming. Great power chords. Great solo. Its a classic Tom Johnston song and solo.
Darrell Grob totally agreed, this alone is reason enough to be in the #RRHOF
I agree. Can't get it out of my head. Killer song!
Induct the doobie brothers into the rock n roll hall of fame

They are underrated... We should light up the switch board and them nominated for Rock Hall of Fame.... Whos with me
we should light up a Doobie 💚
I think they are in Rock HOF now. Way past due and they are under-rated!!
I love Tom Johnston -still sounding great after all these years. Don't miss the McDonald sound.
Amen! I remember thinking this is going to ruin the Doobie Brothers
McDonald belonged in the band, just not this one.
I saw them with Skunk Baxter in the 70s--great show.
Greatness
I was a teenager partying hard and surfing my ass off! Smoking great bud and trying to find God!
And at 4:19, I like how Patrick Simmons is pluck strumming his guitar, sounds cool.
Way back when...I predicted the Doobie Brothers and Tom Hanks would make it Big... wasn't I right ?
Johnston's really playing well here.
A great version of this Without You! Tom J plays a great solo with wow-wow pedal in this one...
It was a great song in high school and still is today
When this came out l was in the service of our country! Thank God It helped me to Mahe I t through!
